Network Connectivity Outage Test?
Feb 6, 2012I've been having problems downloading full ISO's before they're interrupted. There doesn't seem to be any real rhyme or reason to it. Sometimes a 4.1GB ISO will stop at 2GB, other times at 4.0GB. I realize I could run a ping from the time I walk in until the time I leave, but that seems a bit too archaic of a solution.nfortunately, our CTO believes SNMP is too much of a security risk

During bandwidth tests to several sites (principally speedtest.net) I get ping times of 10-11 ms, download speeds of 12+ to 17+ mbps but failure on upload tests using my DIR-655.
When I bypass the 655 and test directly with my cable modem, all (including upload) tests work reliably and consistently.
I have swapped the two ethernet cables involved as well as replacing both with new cables but the results are the same (uploads fail with 655 and work without it)
I have seen several postings over the the last year with this same problem but have never seen any comment from D-Link, or a solution from any reader.
Not that it should have any bearing, but I have TA785GE-128M motherboard and am running Windows 7 (patch current) on COMCAST
is this problem acknowledged by D-Link and is there a solution?

Jan 10, 2011I did a network test with Passmarks Performancetest. I'm running a 10/100 network with all devices connecting at 100Mb. On Performancetest there are 2 tests to run for Network speed, TCP and UDP. The TCP speed test came back with an average 62000kbps (7.5Mb), and the UDP was 89000kbps (10.8Mb). As I'm running a 100mb network, shouldn't the results of been higher?

But recently I upgraded to a 10 GbE switch (Netgear M7100), and it broke QCheck; basically, QCheck gave me an infinity as the result of my throughput test. Passmark performed fine, but it's just a hassle to use (or at least it's not as straight forward as QCheck).
Is there another free tool for network lan speed tests? Or is there a really cheap tool for it?Let's say I have less than 20 devices to test on.I've already tried Totusoft's lan speed test and find that its free version is useless.I'm having an itch write my own software now, but if it comes to that, I'd rather pay for a cheap software.Spent too much money on upgrading already - switches, servers, and computers)

Now I am really new at this since my CCNA class has not yet started but I am trying to get a headstart. What I need to do is split the network up into 2 vlans to represent my data center, and the network oporation center. Ports 1,2,and 3 will be my DC; 11 and 12 will be my NOC. I need to learn how to get those two vlans to communicate. trunk? how? I need the computers to communicate flawlessly. I would rather use the Cisco CLI and not the GUI, google is coming up with nothing descriptive.

I bought some days ago Tp-Link Wireless Router (Model TL-WR740N - 150 Mbps - Ver 4.23) but I couldn't install it: when I do Easy Setup Assistant, the network status test always fails because of absence of connectivity. I can see that there are some problems by the lights of the router: the WLAN light switches on, as the WAN light and the LAN light, instead of being flashed. I tried to do the installation without cd but, clicking on 192.168.1.1, I didn't find the page to access to web console but the Telecom page of the status of my connexion (nb: it reports that ethernet is unplugged).

I am working with a company who uses an Access database that checks members in and out of a gym. 6-8 people work in the database at any given time. Several times a day the users will get a network error and they have to force the database to close. Sometimes this happens to all of the users and sometimes to just certain ones. I believe the problem lies with the database (due to poor programming) but I want to monitor the network connectivity to see if and when the network connection is dropped and determine if that corresponds with when users begin seeing network errors in the database.

The strange thing is that I've had no problem connecting to other wireless networks (at my own home, at work, etc). n their network, I get a message that says "taking longer than usual to connect to network". Then, it eventually connects but leaves me with "limited connectivity"....and I can't access the internet.I had no problem connecting to their network on that laptop when I had XP and no other computers are having this problem with their network.

My chrome browser got hijacked by the search conduit virus. So, I cleaned it with AdW cleaner. My internet connection was ok then. After that, I ran ccleaner and cleared the registry. Jan 15, 2012Every once in a while when logging into Windows (7 Ultimate 32 bit) My PC decides it couldn't find a network connection, usually restarting the computer solved the problem, however now I have seemed to permanently be stuck on the "identifying" stage of my LAN connection. My mobo is an Asrock p67 extreme, the network adapter is a realtek pcie family card.Now I know it is not my modem since I can connect on my other PC in the living room, I verified this with a phone call to my ISP, they couldn't see my PC connected to the network but could see the other one.It is not the Ethernet cords, I switched them and even used a new one. I tried rolling back, installing updated and installing factory drivers for my network card, no change.
I tried turning off the PC, disconnected the power cord, discharged it, left everything off/ disconnected for 30 minutes and reattached, powered on, no change.I made sure my DHCP was on and that my PC was set to automatically retrieve IP/DNS.I even bought a new Ethernet card, installed it and I still can't connect, so its not the realtek card.I can't even access my modem using its UP address, 192.168.2.1 (Bell 2wire) but I can on my 2nd PC, it sees all other devices, PS3 /Smartphones but not my PC.
