Cisco LAN :: 2024 Switch / SF300 - Building Test Network
Sep 24, 2012
I have been put in charge of getting a failover cluster up and runing for SQL AlwaysOn. My equipment is a Cisco SF300-24 and a Cisco 2024 smartswitch. Now I am really new at this since my CCNA class has not yet started but I am trying to get a headstart. What I need to do is split the network up into 2 vlans to represent my data center, and the network oporation center. Ports 1,2,and 3 will be my DC; 11 and 12 will be my NOC. I need to learn how to get those two vlans to communicate. trunk? how? I need the computers to communicate flawlessly. I would rather use the Cisco CLI and not the GUI, google is coming up with nothing descriptive.

I have a cluster of three layer three switches. Is it possible to build just one IPsec/GRE tunnel to the entire switch cluster or will I have to build an independent tunnel for each switch? I'm pretty sure you can't terminate GRE to an HSRP address, and I think that's the only way to build routing redundancy into a switch cluster.

I am using a Cisco SRP527W router for our small business. As this device only has 4 LAN ports I want to add another switch so as our business grows I can add more PCs and VoIP phones. I would like to use a Cisco SF300-24 switch and before I purchase am interested to know if anyone has used a SRP527W router with this range of Cisco switches. Are there any compatibility issues or will these two devices work well together?

I am trying to add a Cisco SMB SF300 - 24 Switch to an infrastructure which has only Cisco Catalyst Switches The Core layer is Cisco Cataylst 4503 . Distribution is Cisco Catalyst 3560 and the Access Layer is Cisco 2960 Switches. There about 30 VLANs present in the infrastructure which is advertised to all switches using VTP. Inter VLAN routing is done at the Core Switches by creating Interface VLANs for every L2 VLAN.
1. The new VLAN 150 needs to be created on the new Cisco SMB Switch. If I create a corresponding interface VLAN 150 on the Core Switches , will it route traffic to other VLANs just like it is currently working for Cisco Catayst 2960 Switches ?
2. Upon checking I could see that VTP is not supported on Cisco SMB Switches and I would need to go for GVRP if I need to advertise VLAN information to other Switches. But since GVRP is supported only on CatOS and there is no inter operability between GVRP and VTP , I would need to create VLANs manually on the new Switch . Is that correct ?

I have a SF 300-24 24-Port 10/100 Managed Switch and I am trying to set some VLANs. The image below shows how I want it to be setup:Since the remote site goes through the Internet, making port 20 an 802.1Q trunk over the two VLANs will give WAN connectivity to VPN/E-mail.I've tried all sort of settings [ see attachments] but can't get it work.

I have a 4g home system from verizon in my house with a wireless roughter all works. Are printers are on the network. I have run a cat5 underground eithernet cable to a poll barn that is about 200 feet from my house. (the house network will not reach that far). My wife wants her barn to be wi fi (she does not want to plug in to the wall of the barn. I was told I need a Hub. but i am not sure what i need. The idea is she could print to the printer in the house or in the barn so i want all to be on one network.

I wish to build a test rig in my office that will act as 2 separate geographic locations with a router at each location connecting to a make believe MPLS kind of network. I then wish for these sites to communicate with each other but obviously be on separate IP ranges .I know each site would have a router and I assume that there ideally should be 2 corresponding (provider) routers on the MPLS network. What I do not know is how the the routers at each site should connect physically to its partner router at the MPLS and also how the two MPLS routers would connect together. For example, if I wanted to later scale up to have 4 geographical sites how would the 4 MPLS routers connect together (using a switch?)?

designing a wireless network for an apartment complex. The complex is shaped like like an rectangle, fairly small, maybe 100 feet on the ends and 300 feet long on the sides. There are 130 people that we are assuming may have about 3 devices each that they will connect to the wireless network, potentially simultaneously, as this is in a college environment. We have plenty of bandwidth and down/up speed. We are running 30 megabit down and 10 up. I am planning on having a router with two access points centrally located in an apartment and extending the network out with antennas in each direction from the access points with Omni directional antennas. The Access points that I am planning on using are Cisco WAP200 with maybe a Linksys router, as the router should not have more than 10 connections on it. I need something that will not crash after 10-15 users connect to it because it jams up from overload.

I'm new to managed networking. So I'm having trouble understanding how to set up my switches properly. I have a closed network with about 20 switches and 2 IDF's. No router, and no internet. I have a SLM 2024 in want to have 4 ports set up with a VLAN.
I have another SLM2024 I want to be on the same VLAN some where else. Switch 1 uses port 24 GBIC as and uplink port to one of the IDF's. Switch 2 uses ports 12 and 24 copper(LACP) to make a hop from another switch(ports 1 and 13 LACP)which inturn is connected to thesame IDF on port 24 GBIC. How do I set up switch 1 ports 7,8,19,20? Also, how do I set up switch 2 ports 7,8,19,20?

I've never been very good with networking, and this is my first post to these forums, but essentially, what I would like to do is build a wireless network throughout my house, and fortunately it is a new build and I have already had hard-wires installed to the first floor and basement, with the primary connection point being my office on the 2nd floor. What do I need to do, hardware wise, to have a single wireless network throughout the house instead of 3 different wireless routers or something like that?

what's the meaning of the output:
Interface Speed Local pair Pair length Remote pair Pair status
--------- ----- ---------- ------------------ ----------- --------------------
Gi0/40 100M Pair A 2 +/- 4 meters Pair A Normal
Pair B 2 +/- 4 meters Pair B Normal
Pair C 2 +/- 4 meters Pair C Short
Pair D 2 +/- 4 meters Pair D Short
From the command
test cable-diagnostics tdr int gi 0/40
It's normal? If not, then. the problem is on the cable or on one of the interfaces? The interface is connected between a fastethenert on a 2811 router and a 3560-48 switch. The cable is a straight through cat 5e cable. (I have changed several cables with same result).

Question re: DIR-655; Hardware ver A4; Firmware version 1.32NA
During bandwidth tests to several sites (principally speedtest.net) I get ping times of 10-11 ms, download speeds of 12+ to 17+ mbps but failure on upload tests using my DIR-655.
When I bypass the 655 and test directly with my cable modem, all (including upload) tests work reliably and consistently.
I have swapped the two ethernet cables involved as well as replacing both with new cables but the results are the same (uploads fail with 655 and work without it)
I have seen several postings over the the last year with this same problem but have never seen any comment from D-Link, or a solution from any reader.
Not that it should have any bearing, but I have TA785GE-128M motherboard and am running Windows 7 (patch current) on COMCAST
is this problem acknowledged by D-Link and is there a solution?

internet provided to whole building with connections in every room -> personal router in my room -> my PCs, Macs & printer, how to set up my computers so that they can share files with each other and print to my network printer, but without being susceptible to being accessed from other computers in the building? I have my own netgear router. But at the moment, my shared folders are accessible by everyone in the building, so is my printer If I set all the computers to automatically set ip by DHCP, they can access the net, but everyone in the building can access them (and my printer which requires a manual ip doesnt work). If I set all the computers to manual addresses (e.g. 192.168.1.14 ... 192.168.1.15 ... 192.168.1.16 etc.) they work with each other, the printer works, its secure, but I can't access the internet! Is there a way to for example have my own internal network with manual ip addresses, while also being able to connect to the net?

I live in a new apartment building which means a lot of concrete. The internet (fiber) enters the house at the beginning where the modem is hooked up to my Linksys WRT320N. From there two cables run through the house:1 to the home office, where two computers are connected through a switch.1 to the living room, where the Xbox, blue-ray player are connected through a switch.I also have a wifi network running from my WRT320N, but as it is at the beginning of the house, there are some black spots in other parts of the house. I tried to fix this with a Netgear repeater, but that keeps disconnecting.
What I want to do know is place a second linksys device in the living room at the end of the already existing cable that will also broadcast a wifi network, but I want this to be exactly the same Wi-Fi network as I already have. What I want to achieve is that I can walk from one end of the house with my iPad, streaming a video, to the other end of the house and that I always stay connected to the internet and that my tabled just picks up the strongest broadcaster, basically the same as with a mobile phone.

I am trying to hook up a SF300 switch to a cable modem and then plug some phones into the switch that are configured with static IPs. I am able to access the switch without an issue, but need it to pass traffic from the phones to the network and it is not doing so. We cannot do trunking because we are not using BSoD modems yet (next phase). For now, we just need the switches to pass everything from the phones to the network as is. Any ideas?

The last few days I've been exploring options in getting rid of some old routers accross a wan connections. I have a cat 3560 to play with and I thought I would try and use the no switchport command test out routing with switch. I've got some type of route issue and I tried a few things which I thought would fix the issue but had no effect. I'll post the config and a few commands so you can see what the basic setup is.
Here we can see in the arp that it knows about both 10.7.1.2 (PC unable to ping 10.3.3.254) as well as 10.3.3.254 (ASA).I tried adding in a ip route of 10.7.0.0 255.255.0.0 10.3.3.110 as well as 10.3.3.254. Neither produced the results I wanted allowing 10.7.1.2 (PC) to ping the ASA (10.3.3.254). [code]

I've been having problems downloading full ISO's before they're interrupted. There doesn't seem to be any real rhyme or reason to it. Sometimes a 4.1GB ISO will stop at 2GB, other times at 4.0GB. I realize I could run a ping from the time I walk in until the time I leave, but that seems a bit too archaic of a solution.nfortunately, our CTO believes SNMP is too much of a security risk

I did a network test with Passmarks Performancetest. I'm running a 10/100 network with all devices connecting at 100Mb. On Performancetest there are 2 tests to run for Network speed, TCP and UDP. The TCP speed test came back with an average 62000kbps (7.5Mb), and the UDP was 89000kbps (10.8Mb). As I'm running a 100mb network, shouldn't the results of been higher?

I am used to lan testing with QCheck and Passmark's Performance Test (Network Test). But recently I upgraded to a 10 GbE switch (Netgear M7100), and it broke QCheck; basically, QCheck gave me an infinity as the result of my throughput test. Passmark performed fine, but it's just a hassle to use (or at least it's not as straight forward as QCheck).
Is there another free tool for network lan speed tests? Or is there a really cheap tool for it?Let's say I have less than 20 devices to test on.I've already tried Totusoft's lan speed test and find that its free version is useless.I'm having an itch write my own software now, but if it comes to that, I'd rather pay for a cheap software.Spent too much money on upgrading already - switches, servers, and computers)
