I'm currently in college, and do most things with my laptop, and I have wifi just about everywhere. It has a generous 500 GB of storage, but I'd like to store non-essential files on, an external hard drive. However, lugging around 3 TB of storage isn't exactly feasible, and with my experience with my current 1.5 TB portable drive, me running around everywhere with it bouncing in my bag is just going to abuse it until it stops functioning (which it has...)[URL]

I have E4200 v1 with 1.0.3 firmware and an old 2.5"/120GB hard drive. Today I discovered that all my data where lost. They were there not longer than a couple of days ago. I'm almost sure it's not my fault and the drive is healty. I'm now moving back datas onto it and I will check for them daily.
1) I had no power loss;
2) I didn't reboot nor I didn't switch it off/on;
3) I didn't copied files since days;
4) The last time I used it I just browsed files;
5) It's not exposed to the internet but just to local network;
6) The router hasn't logged admin logon other than from my computers.

I am going back to college and I will need a router. Both my roommate and I were on the same router went over our bandwidth usage a number of times last year. I've done a bit of research and have come up with a few options: Asus rt-n56u, netgear wndr 4500, and the apple airport extreme. Both my desktop and laptop pc so I'm not sure if that effects the outcome. I am going to need a usb port for an ext hdd, which all of them have. All of the routers have a 5hz signal for better streaming. Would I be able to use the apple airport? It seems the have the best reviews. But I question the compatibility and some of the reviews due to possible fanboyism. Also, If I connect my desktop to the router via a crossover cable and have an ext hdd hooked into the router can I transfer files to the ext hdd and stream that data over a 5 hz signal?

I currently have a E3000 router. I have set up a shared USB drive successfully through this router. After a couple of months, I needed to re-locate my router into a different room. After doing so, I plug back in the USB drive and cannot access it. If I go through the GUI, it tells me that the drive type is not supported, and if I just plug it into a computer to obtain the infromation off of it, I get a "drive is corrupted" error

I have an old computer (Dell gx280) that has a external usb 2.0 hard drive connected to it. I was trying to copy the files over a gigabit network connection to another computer and it was only transferring at approx. 2.5 megabytes a second. This was only using a small fraction of the gigabit network card in both the source and destination computer. I saw the CPU was maxed out on the source PC b/c of an application. Once I quit that application the CPU usage went back to essentially nothing. The copy job then jumped up to 14 megabytes a second and was using 30-35% of the gigabit connection.
The NIC and the USB ports are on the motherboard. How did the CPU usage slow this whole process down and was it impacting the network card, the USB port or both?

I am currently using a backup program that I thought would back up from any location including a NAS drive but this is not the case. The backup program does not show the NAS drive directory... I was just wondering if there is a way of making a NAS drive appear as a local drive. I've mapped the drive and created symbolic links for it as well and it still does not appear. I was planning on using the iSCSI method but I believe my NAS does not support it.

We have a user that works from home and connects to our network through a VPN when she needs to access files on our server (mapped as a shared drive.)I created a new shared folder on that same server and she can't map a drive to it. It just continuously prompts for username/password.She is running Win 7 Pro, server is Server 2008. The server is on a domain, she is not. She already has a mapped drive to a different folder on the same server as well as to a folder on another server. We are trying to map using the IP address (\IPFolder) and have tried putting the username as IPUsername and just Username with no luck. Tried mapping with net use. Found some stuff online about changing some registry values - tried that. Change the network type from "Home" to "Work" and still no luck.

Odd issue with a Win XP PC with SP3 in a company network. The computer can browse to the network shares using the UNC path via the run command, but can not map a network drive to the same path. Explorer says the path is not valid or can't be found, but the account has no issues accessing the share via the UNC path. At one point this worked fine as there are existing drive mappings on the computer, but none of them work any longer saying the the location is unavailable.

A program is installed on our server, and I run it on my pc by mapping a network drive to the server's hard drive.I'm sure you all know this procedure.Anyway, I can access the shared drive on the server from my pc, browse, create and delete files on the server, all fine.But, when I try to map the drive, it says:"Windows cannot find 'WEaXA.EXe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."And its only on my pc this happens, on all the other pcs its working fine. And from my pc I can map any other shared folder/drive.

I have a 1TB internal SATA HD that I want to turn into a network drive. Since the MB in the desktop I had this drive in fried, I'm looking for options to network this drive (that stores photos, music, utilities, etc). So far after brief research, looks like my most reliable option would be an external enclosure with USB and a router with a USB share port.
-what other options do I have?
-what would be a good wireless N/G router with a USB share port, great range or range extender option and can handle multiple devices online (xbox, ps3, wii, droid phones, 2x or more laptops, wifi Tv all not connected at once, but a few can be, so I need a router to handle the demand)
-a good reliable external enclosure
I need a router that has a good strong signal. The current G router I have (d-link di-524(?)) works ok, but the signal cuts out in the kitchen and virtually non-existent in my garage (to use Pandora on phone).

I shared a cd-player on a different pc and am able to access it as a shared folder. I tried copying the files to my HD and making aan ISO out of em. This worked, but my Virtual Machines(VMware Player & Oracle VM VirtualBox) don't detect it as a windows install, also tried to mount this ISO. detect the original XP cd with one of these VM's. But in order for this to work I have to make my system think that the cd-player on the other pc is part of the local setup,

Any way to enable the USB port of a TV to access video files held on a NAS drive?
My aim is to access the drive via wifi or ethernet.
Presumably it would need to present the drive as a mass storage device to the TV's USB port since that's basically what the port picks up.
The TV does not support DLNA and I'm trying to avoid having to buy a separate media player e.g. WD Live TV box.

I work for a company and I am currently trying to make some changes to the security on our NAS drive, (I will give specifics of the equipment we are using below). The NAS drive we have does have some security functionality on it however we don't have the username and password (it was set up before I arrived and now no one knows anything about it). I am able to restore the NAS to factory settings which apparently will not affect the content of the drive however it will in addition to resetting the password and username, reset the IP address.Now the concern I have is that once I have reset this, then will the computers which are connected to it be no longer able to access the drive which is essential for the business.
The NAS is connected to a switch which then feeds off via Ethernet to 8 separate computers (6 running XP, 2 running Windows 7), will this mean that when the IP address is reset the computers will lose access to the drive or will they be okay as they are still connected via Ethernet. If they will lose access what will I need to do to 'reconnect' them. [code]

I've just replaced my ZyXEL modem router with a Belkin Play N600 Wireless Dual-band Modem Router and eventually persuaded my PC to access the internet wirelessly. BUT I now can't access the Plextor StoreX NAS drive. I just don't seem to be able to locate it although it still works on other PCs on the network.I moved the 4 ethernet cables that were connected to the ZyXEL into the corresponding 4 slots on the Belkin so the format is exactly the same as before. That is cables to: The NAS drive Other PCs, printers, scanners etc etc on Network My PC Spare cable for non-wireless laptop connection. how I can get access on my PC to the NAS.At the same time the other PCs on the network (too far away for wireless access) now cannot get internet access, although a laptop connected to the spare cable can........
