View 3 RepliesI have a domain with a domain controller Server 2003. I have a backup dc running an application with server 2008. The shared folder I am trying to access is on an nt server 2000. We have had a mapped drive "I:" and have used it for years. Our copier also scans to a shared folder on the server 2000 machine. All of the desktop systems are xp sp3 with one W7 machine. A couple of weeks ago when user attempted to access the shared/mapped drive, an error would occur that "the drive was in use and they could not be logged on". Sometimes the error would say "you don't have permission to access the drive." Mind you no settings have been changed on the network. When either of these errors would occur it would occur for everyone but if I rebooted the server everyone could connect again. The same errors would occur the next day or 6 - 8 hour later. Now the error has occured "Drive is already in use and you cannot be logged in" (I have tried drive Z as well the drive is not in use) and restarting the serever no longer works. No one can access the shared drive. I have unmapped the drive on my system and have attempted to reconnect, I enter the path and check reconnect at logon and it asks for a password. I enter the administrator password (which is what I always used) and it just pops right back up asking for a password as if I entered nothing. I can ping the server with the shared folder and even logon remotely so I know it is not a physical disconnect. I am not sure what changed and have followed many suggestions found to no avail. We cannot access the shares or scan.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got my dad's old notebook (VAIO VPC F223FB) which is better than my older one. So, I did a backup and then managed to clean install a Windows 7 Professional x64.At first I had a problem with the drivers, because the internet wasn't connecting and the USB ports weren't detecting my External Drive. So, I tested other USB port and got it. Installed the drivers and I could connect to the wireless network. But it doesn't detect the ethernet cable! And I want it detecting because then it's faster. I already tried downloading the Ethernet Controller driver. At first, I downloaded through Sony's support site but it didn't recognize the driver. Now, it recognizes but still doesn't connect it. And when I tried Solving Connection Problems, it said the network gateway was accessible but Windows can't receive Internet network traffic.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a desktop PC hooked up to an ethernet cable. I was surfing the web one day when the internet cut out and I haven't been able to get it back since. This was in Windows 7. I have two hard drives. The first has Windows 7 on it, and the second has Windows XP on it. When I load up the Windows XP drive, the internet works great. But, when I start the 7 drive, there's no possible way to connect to the internet. I don't understand it. I have the ethernet cable [that is usually in the PC] plugged into my laptop (running WINDOWS 7 of all things). I'm typing this from the laptop, and the internet works perfectly on it. I don't know what to do about this. I'll provide any more info needed.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have never had to share an Ubuntu drive to windows before, and I never thought it would end up being this difficult. What I need to do is share my 500gb drive in ubuntu, it is a secondary drive, not the primary with the OS on it, to my windows xp and my windows 7 machines. So far I have samba installed on the ubuntu machine and I have formatted and set everything up. The issue is that I just cant figure out how to connect to it in windows becuase when i use the map network drive feature it says something about no network found.

View 1 Replies View RelatedBasically, her Windows (not sure which version) is telling her that to set up a secured connection, she needs to use a flash drive for some reason. She thinks she is able to get online right now, but only through an unsecured connection.
I don't think a flash drive is needed for this process, but as I am not even sure what this process is, I'm rather confused. What exactly is Windows asking of her right now? Her main thing is just to be able to connect to the Internet securely and easily.

(i.e. all ip addresses are identical except for the last block of numbers)All machines are running WinXP.We have one computer set up as a file server (computer with shared folders) that is plugged into a wall socket. We have 3 other machines that can see and access the shared folder on the server computer once they are plugged into a wall socket. The odd thing is that these 3 machines have different settings as far as I can tell. They are all on different workgroups but they have no problem finding the shared folder. However, when I go to plug my laptop into a wall socket, I am not able to map a network drive. The error msg says it cannot find the drive. I have my laptop set-up on the same workgroup as the server computer and the server computer can see my laptop. But when I double click on my laptop in the server computer workgroup I get a msg saying permission is denied.
My laptop can connect to the internet, but cannot find the shared drive. I have tried turning off my laptop firewall, the server firewall, both firewalls etc with no success. In my Local Area Connections I have the following all enabled "Client for Microsoft Networks", "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks", "QoS Packet Scheduler", "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)".

I'm trying to get one of my hard drives to be available on the network, so I went to the "sharing" tab of the HD's properties setting and allowed sharing on the HD and turned off password protection so that you don't need a password to access the HD.I also set the permissions to give full control, change, and read access to the "Everyone" group.
From another computer in the network, I tried connecting to the network HD but ultimately got "Access denied" despite the fact that I gave full control to "Everyone".How do I get the computer to be able to connect to the shared HD?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm working on a small network (1 server, 6 workstations, stand-alone, not connected to the main Company Network) "reinstalling" a Workstation. Re-imaging from semi-generic Norton Ghost image (4 of the 6 Workstations run the same programs with different addresses). I then had to reset the IP, the Computer Name, and then the Domain (I did it in that order).
I'm using Windows Server 2003 as the domain controller, and the Workstation is Xp Pro Sp 2.
The Workstation is using the same IP, Name, User as before, and they were working with the server previously (a program had corrupted prompting the reinstall).
The problem is that if I open windows explorer and type in the Workstations IP (\000.00.0.1) I get access to the computer. But if I go there and type in the Workstations Name (\Computer01) I get a "you may not have permission to use this network resource" error.
If I go to the work station, and try the same thing except with the Server's IP (\000.00.0.100) and Name (\Server01) I get access.
This Workstation controls an I/O device that is used by a program running on the server (most of the time, not while I'm doing the install of course) and the program uses the Workstation's Computer Name to access it.
As far as I can tell all the settings on this Workstation match the 3 that are running the same programs, but I could have missed something.
I'm a bit stumped by this, I don't normally deal with the Server side of the computers. I usually just set up the workstations to whatever Name/IP the Net-admins give me. But my bosses put me in charge of this little network, mainly because the Net-admins din't want to deal with it.
I was trying to connect my computers on a home network so that I can access either one via the other. When I try however I get the message:
"***-PC is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
long failure: user account restriction. Possible reasons are blank passwords not allowed, logon hour restrictions, or a police restriction has been enforced.
That is the message from computer 1 to computer 2.
Computer 2 gives me the message:
Windows cannot access \***-PC

I have a linksys router and i'm having quite a big issue. it's been since 2010 that I bought it and have no problems up until recently. I was playing/ going through all the security settings just to what all there was to secure my router. I noticed an ip setting and I 95% sure I did something which changed it; and now i am unable to access my router settings. Whenever I type the old ip address (192.168.1.1 or any of the few other ip addresses) it gives error page and says this page is non existent or it gives me a link to click on with the failed ip address to do a google search. My question is, is there any way that I can reset the router (like a system restore on a computer),
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a fairly simple wireless home network. My main desktop machine is running XP Pro, and our family laptop is running XP Home. The laptop shares the My Documents folder for 2 of the 3 profiles. One of them works as it should. It is visible and accessible on the main desktop machine, but the other share is visible but NOT accessible. I get the following error message when I try to explore it from the main desktop machine:
<the share name> is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
Access is denied.
I'm not sure when this started, but remember that the other folder being shared is working just fine. I've double and triple checked the settings, share names, and basically anything I could possibly mistype. I've restarted both PCs, and refreshed the network explorer via both the file explorer and My Computer dialog. The My Computer dialog refresh the shares for some reason that the explorer wouldn't, but I'm still denied access to that one share on the laptop.
I have a Windows 7 machine that is wired to the router. I have Windows XP computer that is wireless in another room. Signal is showing 80% and internet is accessible and fast from both systems; but, I cannot access either computer from the other computer. I got the IP addresses of each machine and I cannot ping from either direction. Firewalls are turned off on both systems. When I type in \server, I get an error that say I should check my spelling or use the windows Search; but, that doesn't work.
