Can't Connect Through WAN Miniport (PPPOE)
Nov 27, 2011Two days ago our desktop computer stop having internet access. I called my ISP about this problem and they said that everything was fine with my router and that it might be a bad cable. I bought a new cable and it wasn't the cable. I called my dad's friend who works with computers and he said that he thought the NIC was bad. So we went to Staples and bought a Gigabit Ethernet PCI Adaptor, because that would fix the problem, well i installed all of the software and it didn't and we're stumped on what to do.
Our laptop still gets wifi however when I try to connect on my desktop it says that it can't connect through the WAN miniport PPPOE. It gives me error 815

Dec 28, 2011I have created a virtual WiFi hotspot in win 7 laptop with following commands. netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=wii key=abcd1234 Now there is a 'Wireless Network Connection 2'(MS virtual WiFi miniport adapter) in my network connections. netsh wlan start hostednetwork WiFi hotspot started and visible in my other wifi device. But the device shows limited connectivity and i can not use internet not even local access to laptop.
My observations - I found that the IP address and DNS of WiFi miniport adapter is 192.168.11.1 But the IP assigned to my other device is 169.XXX.XX.XX which is not in same subnet
So how to set the WiFi miniport adapter of my laptop to assign proper IP address(within subnet) to my other device. So that i can get rid of LIMITED CONNECTIVITY ISSUE .

Dell :: Studio 1737 / 1397 WLAN - MS Virtual Wi-Fi Miniport Adapter Dead After Hibernate
Oct 22, 2011I have a Dell Studio Laptop 1737 with Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN mini-card and Windows 7 home premium 64 bit. Some days ago, I bought a HP WiFi mouse (model LQ083AA). This mouse connects via WiFi and you need no USB-port for a transmitter. Very practical - if it would work probably.First I installed the SW delivered with the mouse. During this installation, also the "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter" was installed. The mouse connects via this adapter. And everything worked fine. The mouse was found, a connection was established and the mouse worked like a charm. Until I went to sleep. As usually, I hibernated the notebook. And after waking up the notebook from hibernate, the mouse did not work anymore. I found out it is because the "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter" does not wake up correctly. After a reboot, everything works again. And if I use the HP software to reestablish the connection, I receive the error "SoftAP is not available".
I tried several things:I un-installed the "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter" in the device manager and checked for new HW to install it again. But after it was installed again, it still did not work.In the device manager, I disabled "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter" and enabled it again - but it stayed disabled.I updated the driver.I changed energy management, allowed the computer to switch of power of the adapter resp. disallowed that.Nothing I did worked. After hibernate, the "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter" is "dead". Only a reboot works.The WiFi mouse is such a great Idea, but the "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter" is such a mess.

Tools include applications like HP NNM, Netcool, Ciscoworks etc. How far would a career take you if specialising in this area? It seems like a diversion from the typical Routing/Switching side of networking. Not nessacarly from a technical perspective, how about networking? Ie; being exposed to migration/project teams who wanting to 'migrate' more hardware and sites to the care of the NOC, after the design teams have implemented them? This seems like a step towards the design side which in the long term I am wishing to get to.

There is also a dvr system on the network for cameras.Each switch is daisy chained together. Everything is working correctly except for the fact that the network drops about 5 times a day. Before they called us, they would just unhook one switch and plug it back in and it would work.At first, we took that switch and exchanged it with another switch in a computer lab to see if just the computer lab goes down. If it did, then that switch was bad. That wasn't the case, the whole network still went down.We had already left, but when we go back, our first choice will to see if there is a loop anywhere within the switch that will flood the network. Then, we were going to see if there was a switch that was getting a lot of traffic on the network to try to track it down.

I sometimes connect my office laptop at home. Though the laptop connects to the network but I am unable to transfer or share files to other computers running Windows Vista/7. After a bit of research I figured this is because the workgroup name of my office laptop is different than the systems at home. I dont want to change the workgroup name of my office laptop as it will create problems at work.
How can I connected my office laptop to the network and transfer files if the workgroup name is different? It does show names of computers on network but when I try to connect a username & password box pops up.

Feb 19, 2012I am using my normal Ethernet cable that I used on my old PC at the exact same location / circumstances, but when I plug the cable in my new PC, my download speed peaks at 81.5 kb/s and my upload speed peaks at 10 kb/s. Now when I put it back in my old pc I get 3mb/s download speed and 0.5 mb/s upload speed. I don't quite understand what the problem is. Do I need to update drivers/BIOS? I can't find any updates. Feb 20, 2013I have an issue where I am trying to start my VPN and continually get the following message: Error 56: The Cisco Systems, Inc. VPN Service has not been started. Please start this service and try again.
So I have been into Services to 'start' Cisco Systems, Inc. VPN Services - this then always comes up with this error: Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion
The solution mentioned on other posts on disabling the ICS but it was already disabled. When I try to start VPNGUI I also get error 56 and when I try to use services.msc to start the service I get error 1053. Then also when I try to start from task manager services(cvpnnd) i get access denied.

I want to (if possible) to get the wifi signal to a bridge then send it to a router so that I can use my lap top, printer and other devices in my 5th wheel wirelessly. Feb 15, 2012I have two Windows 7 Ultimate computers and around 10 Windows XP (Home and Professional, SP2 and SP3) computers trying to connect to it. It's just a LAN (no internet access).I have set all of the password-protected sharing off on the Win 7 systems. I have tried opening up ALL of the permissions and such (since security is not really an issue).When I try to map the network drive, it won't let me merely connect to it. So, I have to click map network drive on the XP computer and hit "login with other credentials" and enter the username/pass for the user account on the Win 7 machine (we'll say Bob for user and Smith for password for the sake of example). It will mount the share (which is actually the C: root of the drive) just fine.
The only problem is the moment you restart the Windows XP system, it will lose the connection. My fix for it was to create a .bat file that contained the following: [code] I put it in the Progam FilesStartup folder to run upon boot. For the most part, it seems to work after a fashion. Some of the computers, though, will drop the connection to the two Windows 7 systems and need to be rebooted 1-2 times before they get it back again. Even clicking the .bat file manually will have the same result (you will have to reboot) if it drops the connection while you're using it. Plus, sometimes it doesn't map the drive correctly (I assume because the batch file is running before the connection has a chance to initialize on the LAN).I've also tried adding an "Everybody" user to the permissions on the Win 7 systems with full access, but it only seemed to cause problems with the existing connections.It might also be prudent to mention that both the Windows 7 and Windows XP systems are all 32 bit. I've also disabled the firewalls on the two Windows 7 systems. Neither of them have any antivirus or security software installed.

I have used wireshark to verify that the packets are being marked, with the' mls qos rewrite ip dscp' they are, without rewriting does not occur.Moving my sniffer to the 3750-2 I am monitoring the Layer3 connection (marking preserved), however on the layer 2 trunk the marking has been reset to 0 , if I remove the 'mls qos rewrite ip dscp' from 3750-2 then I see the marking on the layer 2 trunk, however I am then unable to remark anything generated on this switch. I believe with the 'mls qos rewrite ip dscp' enabled the L3 to L2 transistion removes the IP DSCP sets the COS to 0 and themnthe COS to DSCP mapping ensures the DSCP is set back to 0.I have tried implementing additional marking policies on 3750-2 but to no avail.What I need is ensuring that that a frame / packet marked in 3750-1 can keep it's marking to the end system over layer 3 and a layer 2 trunk. The only place I wan t the marking to be stripped off is when the dot1q tag is removed as it goes through an access port.

When IP of both systems are not reserved, each computer can see other network computers and devices, five in total.A good thing that both systems get each time same IPs which even got not changed since I upgraded from E1200.When I reserve an IP for each system exactly that they currently have, both systems loose ability to see other network computers. Network shares not affected, I still can remotely access my XP box remotely from my 7 via RDP by computer name. WDTV Live wirelessly connected to the router can get/update its IP address (no connection issues) but same as others cannot see network resources.
Tried different ways, rebooted, finally ended up with device reset pushing the button.The next day I managed to reproduce the issue, but was able to revert by disabling/enabling of DHCP server.Another issue I got with an external HD connected to the router when some files got converted to folders by uTorrent started from that drive.I had to use Unlocker application to be able to delete folders converted. I can just assume that issue because of anonymous access was enabled to the external disk. No problems when same HD connected to PC USB.

One Site Not Accessible?

Its a perfectly sedate site just a social forum, its this one. www.pandemoniumcarnival.com/ which is accessible to all my friends but seemingly not to me...So far i have changed DNS (to open DNS and Google, thinking my isp had blocked it for some reason)Tried Firefox (my usual browser) chrome, IE ...flushed all the settings etc in each no cookies etc. Tried "In Private Browsing" etcOddly i can get to the site if i use a site called "Hide my ***" a proxy server thing. But even then its not fully functioning due i think to the proxy setting (?)

Mar 19, 2011I'm working on a small network (1 server, 6 workstations, stand-alone, not connected to the main Company Network) "reinstalling" a Workstation. Re-imaging from semi-generic Norton Ghost image (4 of the 6 Workstations run the same programs with different addresses). I then had to reset the IP, the Computer Name, and then the Domain (I did it in that order).
I'm using Windows Server 2003 as the domain controller, and the Workstation is Xp Pro Sp 2.
The Workstation is using the same IP, Name, User as before, and they were working with the server previously (a program had corrupted prompting the reinstall).
The problem is that if I open windows explorer and type in the Workstations IP (\000.00.0.1) I get access to the computer. But if I go there and type in the Workstations Name (\Computer01) I get a "you may not have permission to use this network resource" error.
If I go to the work station, and try the same thing except with the Server's IP (\000.00.0.100) and Name (\Server01) I get access.
This Workstation controls an I/O device that is used by a program running on the server (most of the time, not while I'm doing the install of course) and the program uses the Workstation's Computer Name to access it.
As far as I can tell all the settings on this Workstation match the 3 that are running the same programs, but I could have missed something.
I'm a bit stumped by this, I don't normally deal with the Server side of the computers. I usually just set up the workstations to whatever Name/IP the Net-admins give me. But my bosses put me in charge of this little network, mainly because the Net-admins din't want to deal with it.
