View 1 RepliesI have a desktop PC hooked up to an ethernet cable. I was surfing the web one day when the internet cut out and I haven't been able to get it back since. This was in Windows 7. I have two hard drives. The first has Windows 7 on it, and the second has Windows XP on it. When I load up the Windows XP drive, the internet works great. But, when I start the 7 drive, there's no possible way to connect to the internet. I don't understand it. I have the ethernet cable [that is usually in the PC] plugged into my laptop (running WINDOWS 7 of all things). I'm typing this from the laptop, and the internet works perfectly on it. I don't know what to do about this. I'll provide any more info needed.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAt work we have a private network set up so that any computer that is plugged into the wall is on the same network. (i.e. all ip addresses are identical except for the last block of numbers)All machines are running WinXP.We have one computer set up as a file server (computer with shared folders) that is plugged into a wall socket. We have 3 other machines that can see and access the shared folder on the server computer once they are plugged into a wall socket. The odd thing is that these 3 machines have different settings as far as I can tell. They are all on different workgroups but they have no problem finding the shared folder. However, when I go to plug my laptop into a wall socket, I am not able to map a network drive. The error msg says it cannot find the drive. I have my laptop set-up on the same workgroup as the server computer and the server computer can see my laptop. But when I double click on my laptop in the server computer workgroup I get a msg saying permission is denied.
My laptop can connect to the internet, but cannot find the shared drive. I have tried turning off my laptop firewall, the server firewall, both firewalls etc with no success. In my Local Area Connections I have the following all enabled "Client for Microsoft Networks", "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks", "QoS Packet Scheduler", "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)".
I've setup a home network using Netgear N300 wireless router (using Windows 7).
I'm trying to get one of my hard drives to be available on the network, so I went to the "sharing" tab of the HD's properties setting and allowed sharing on the HD and turned off password protection so that you don't need a password to access the HD.I also set the permissions to give full control, change, and read access to the "Everyone" group.
From another computer in the network, I tried connecting to the network HD but ultimately got "Access denied" despite the fact that I gave full control to "Everyone".How do I get the computer to be able to connect to the shared HD?
I'm runing an ea3500 in bridged mode, classic configuration, firmware 1.0.30 build 126544. I got ftp working for my usb attached wv delements drive , but it is totally invisible in windows (except for ftp of course).I read in an older post that the usb drive in certain situations does not work (independent of disk manufacturer/type and such) and for certain configurations the ftp option might work but the windows mapped network drive doesn't , does that still apply? does it apply to bridged mode ?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Seagate 1TB USB External Hard Drive that I want to share on my wireless home network, and I'm having difficulty finding a cheap, reliable solution. I would also, ideally, like to connect a USB printer for similar sharing.I have two XP PC's on the network, and will probably be getting a Windows 7 machine. The router is the generic one supplied by my ISP.
1. Connect both hard drive and printer to always-on PC that shares with Windows. This would work but I'm not keen on the 'always on'
2. Use a Pogoplug to connect the hard drive and printer to the router Again, a good solution and always-on, but a little pricey - ?60-100?
Our previous wireless router (Netgear Rangemax wpn802) died yesterday so I went out and bought a Western Digital My Net N900. The issue is that now anyone using the wireless signal can't connect to a shared network folder that they were previously able to connect to using the old router.
I'm not able to log into the old router to see any of its settings. I do have access to the server that has the shared folder - I just don't have any idea what needs to be set in order for the N900 to allow me through to the shared folder - whether it's on the router side or the server side.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have never had to share an Ubuntu drive to windows before, and I never thought it would end up being this difficult. What I need to do is share my 500gb drive in ubuntu, it is a secondary drive, not the primary with the OS on it, to my windows xp and my windows 7 machines. So far I have samba installed on the ubuntu machine and I have formatted and set everything up. The issue is that I just cant figure out how to connect to it in windows becuase when i use the map network drive feature it says something about no network found.

View 1 Replies View RelatedBasically, her Windows (not sure which version) is telling her that to set up a secured connection, she needs to use a flash drive for some reason. She thinks she is able to get online right now, but only through an unsecured connection.
I don't think a flash drive is needed for this process, but as I am not even sure what this process is, I'm rather confused. What exactly is Windows asking of her right now? Her main thing is just to be able to connect to the Internet securely and easily.

This past weekend I went out of town and took my Windows 7 laptop with me -- since I returned home, it has been unable to connect to my wireless network. Other devices in my home connect to the network just fine, and the problem laptop has always been fine until now. My network card is an Atheros AR9285, and I'm attempting to connect to a Medialink router with WPA password protection and AES encryption. My wireless network icon in the task bar has a yellow sign with an exclamation point in it. It says "No Internet access."

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a domain with a domain controller Server 2003. I have a backup dc running an application with server 2008. The shared folder I am trying to access is on an nt server 2000. We have had a mapped drive "I:" and have used it for years. Our copier also scans to a shared folder on the server 2000 machine. All of the desktop systems are xp sp3 with one W7 machine. A couple of weeks ago when user attempted to access the shared/mapped drive, an error would occur that "the drive was in use and they could not be logged on". Sometimes the error would say "you don't have permission to access the drive." Mind you no settings have been changed on the network. When either of these errors would occur it would occur for everyone but if I rebooted the server everyone could connect again. The same errors would occur the next day or 6 - 8 hour later. Now the error has occured "Drive is already in use and you cannot be logged in" (I have tried drive Z as well the drive is not in use) and restarting the serever no longer works. No one can access the shared drive. I have unmapped the drive on my system and have attempted to reconnect, I enter the path and check reconnect at logon and it asks for a password. I enter the administrator password (which is what I always used) and it just pops right back up asking for a password as if I entered nothing. I can ping the server with the shared folder and even logon remotely so I know it is not a physical disconnect. I am not sure what changed and have followed many suggestions found to no avail. We cannot access the shares or scan.

View 8 Replies View RelatedLast week my laptop would connect to the wifi just fine but just a couple of days ago when ever I try to connect it to the wifi it just gives me the "windows cannot connect to network" error message almost immediately. What really stumps me is that the three iPads (school provided) in my house and my sisters laptop all connect to the wifi but my laptop It may have something to do with the fact that I started a homegroup so I could print stuff from my laptop and that the password for the router was changed to something easy a couple of days ago by my sister to make it easier to connect from her iPad?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm staying with friends who have a router connected to their modem, which is connected to a computer.Three other computers connect remotely via wireless, including mine, which is the farthest from the connection. I have a so-so USB wireless that gets the job done, but isn't anything special. This morning I came home to find my connection was very laggy and spotty. I rebooted the modem and router, which reduced me to no internet connection at all. I removed the adapter, plugged it back in, then rebooted. Nothing. Since then, I've reinstalled the adapter's software twice, gone into safe mode and back out, have verified the USB port is working, and removed the device from device manager. And I've seen everything on my status from the yellow yield sign to the unplugged icon symbolizing no adapter period, even when the adapter is plugged in.All other computers have access but mine. Just before writing this, I remove the connection settings and reentered them. The connection asks me for the key, I put it in, and receive "Windows could not connect to <the network>. I receive that even if I intentionally put the key in wrong. No "key is incorrect" or "please reeneter" just "windows could not connect." My wireless adapter's settings verify that there is signal. There was a thunder storm today, and I'm mentioning it, but feel insofar as my computer is concerned, it may be a red herring.
I am at a complete loss. There's signal. The usb adapter's software has been reinstalled, and it's attempting to connect. I think the fact that it's not giving me any response about the key being incorrect may be the key to this solution, but I am at a loss.My friends insist that no changes have been made to the router or modem other than my resetting them.In the time between writing this and posting it, I unplugged my wireless adapter from the computer with the ailing connection, and went to another computer to continue researching. When I came back and plugged the adapter back in, it connected immediately for about 15 seconds and gave me just enough time to visit my home page (which updates regularly, so I know it wasn't a cache), then fizzled. Then the internet went to zero bars. I disconnected, reconnected, and got limited connectivity with the yield sign. I used the repair tool and got that orange "flame(?)" in front of the connectivity bars and hovering over it yielded "connections are available. Not connected." When I tried to connect again, I received the previous "Windows could not connect to <network>." Rebooted again and saw the yellow yield sign. Then red flame. Then windows cannot connect.
I have a windows 7 desktop with an SSD and regular mechanical hard drive where I keep my data. I also have a laptop with a small SSD as well. I wanted to keep the laptop free of non-critical data so I decided to setup a file share between my desktop (Windows 7 home prem) and my laptop (Windows 7 pro). I was able share the files and navigate to my desktop through my laptop. I successfully mapped the folder as a network drive and all was well. Then I rebooted and I was disconnected from it, it remembered that it was there but I needed to manually connect to it and I needed to provide my login credentials. There is no password just a username.
What is causing this and is there a way to get around this? Also is there a way to set a timeout because if my desktop is not on and I want to use my laptop, the boot times are much longer compared to when I don't have the mapped network drive on my laptop at all.
I'm trying to see if I can fix my friend's NAS which apparently has some pretty important data on it that wasn't saved anywhere else. They actually had the Geeksquad look at it and they've come to the same conclusion I have so far, but I figured I would ask the internet before I gave the thing back to them and said Geeksquad was right.
Anyways, they have this 5 drive RAIDed NAS which apparently just stopped showing up on their network. I borrowed it from them to see if I could figure it out. It turns on just fine and my router assigns it an IP address, but the IP address just takes me to a blank LaCie dashboard screen. It's weird because it's clearly running it's web server because it's just a gray background with an empty white box and "(c) LaCie 2010" at the bottom. No content at all.
Additionally, I tried installing the LaCie Network Assistant on my home computer and it says it cannot find any network disks. I've tried the "wake up a device" where I enter the mac address, but that doesn't do anything.
All the lights are solid blue on the front and over all the drives so it doesn't appear a drive has failed or something. Even so, that wouldn't really explain the blank dashboard right?
laptop could not connect to wifi. Other laptops can connect to this same wifi but this one can't. tried laptop on other routers and it was able to connect. The error message displays" Windows cannot connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range...." tried the solution on microsoft but didn't work. Tried changing the ssid of the wifi then scanned for it. it showed that it was changed. The laptop can detect the wifi but it can't connect to it.The laptop is running on windows xp.

When I came back and turned my computer back on, it keeps giving me this message when I try to connect. It doesnt ask for a password, it simply tries to connect for a few seconds before giving up. After waiting a few hours for the problem to fix itself, one of my flatmates got home and told me they are having the same issue. I have tried restarting my computer, turning off my firewall and restarting the modem.
