Laptop Can't Connect Or Find Any Wireless Networks?
Dec 17, 2011
I messed with some startup programs on msconfig and made sure I didn't disableanything that I didn't know much about, then it told me to restart my computerAfter restarting my laptop I couldn't find any networks at all, there are usually, around 20, and my sound didn't work. After that I tried to enable all of the ones I disabled before, but I am still getting the same problem.

It's fine if I use a ethernet cable though. Updated drivers. Someone said resetting "Winsock", believe I did so. Says media disconnected, but in device manager nothing is wrong and is "working properly"[CODE]

My XPS M1330 was working fine until today. While using the computer, it disconnected from my home wireless network. Windows Device Manager tells me the device is working normally. The WiFi switch is on but the WiFi catcher doesn't find any networks. I can connect to my home network with an Ethernet cable and my desktop, which is on the same network, can connect so i know its not my modem or router.

I have a Toshiba Satellite T110 laptop, and I've recently completely wiped the hard drive, with the OS (Windows 7) being wiped along with it. Anyway, I got a new CD for Windows 7 which was burned however, And once installed, I saw I couldn't find any wireless networks at all. It's like as if it's one of those old classic computers that didn't have wireless. So I bought a Windows 7 CD key online from my iPad. But I couldn't use the product key without Internet, so I did the activate by phone thing. After that it said windows has been successfully activated. Which I don't believe it has anyway. Could any of that possibly be related to my problem of not finding any wireless connections? My laptop was perfectly fine before wiping. my network card adapter thing is an Atheros AR8132 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller (NDIS)

Recently, I have found out that my laptop is unable to find any networks. I started using what I believe to be an ethernet cable to connect my laptop to the internet because it was faster than wireless. But when I removed the cable and try to connect wirelessly, the computer states that there are no wireless networks in range. I know the wireless adapter is broadcasting because my sister can connect wirelessly to the internet. My WiFi is on, but I can't find any networks.

I'm living in Australia for a few months and my accommodation does not have a phone line, so I've been using mobile broadband dongles instead. This worked fine until recently, when I abruptly became unable to access the internet. The laptop recognises the dongle and seems to connect, but the download/upload speeds are at a constant zero bytes per second (I have tried to ping Google while 'connected' but received no response). I have tried two dongles from Dodo and one from Telstra, with the same results. Initially, I assumed that this was simply due to signal strength, but each of the three dongles I have tested work fine on another laptop in the same location (I'm using one of them to post this). I have also tried using the dongles with my laptop in other locations, including the city centre, but with no success.
Also, I seem to be unable to connect to any wireless networks (e.g. McDonalds wifi) - the laptop detects the network ok, and seems to be connected, but I am unable to access any web pages etc. In the Network and Sharing Centre, the laptop is connected with the wifi network, but the wifi network does not seem to be connected to the internet. I'm unsure if this is related to the above problem, however.Like I say, everything seems to have been working fine up until about a week agoIf

I have suddenly started having issues recognising and connecting to a wireless network at home on my laptop. We have 2 wireless networks at home as we use an additional D-Link router through the powerlines. (DHP-W307AV PowerLine Homeplug AV Wireless N Starter Kit)I used to be able to connect to both but now I can just connect to the main wireless router. Other laptops and smart phones in the house can connect to both. I was wondering if this had anything to do with Norton 360 so I have used their removal tool to get rid of it. Unfortunately I still can't connect to the second network.

My laptop wont find the wireless network and connect to it. When I click on the network centre it is unable to find my home network and all of the other ones that I can usually detect (live in an apartment block, I can always see other people's networks)So far I've tried:checked to see that wireless switch is turned onresetting the routertrouble shooter in the network centresystem restore back to a date before it stopped workingThe network is fine on my ipad and flatmate's computer, so it's obviously not the network that has the issue

My laptop can see available networks, but is unable to connect to any of them.I have run Microsoft Security Essentials and the scan comes back fine, ran CC Cleaner as well as Malware Bytes and those scans both come back fine as well.I have also re-seated my wifi card, as well as attempted a TCP/IP stack repair option. However none of these fixed my issue. What could be preventing my laptop from connecting to a network? I have also tried to boot into Safe Mode w/ Networking, and the pc is unable to connect there either.I have also disabled all security on my router, it is just an open network no security, broadcasting the SSID.

I have the wireless switch turned on and the wireless router is set up correctly - I know the network name, encryption & password. The same setup has worked fine before, but now the laptop isn't letting me connect to it, or even try to connect to it.The internet works perfectly if I connect the ethernet cable directly; and I can bring up the wireless router's settings with 192.168.1.1; but the internet doesn't work when I remove the cable. I looked on google to try and find the method of bringing up the available networks, but it won't work for me. When I hover the cursor over the icon on the taskbar, it says "not connected - connections are available", but nothing happens when I click on it. I tried moving the cursor to the bottom-right corner of the screen, clicking on Settings, and clicking on the network icon with "Available" written underneath it, but again nothing happens.
I've also tried this:
-right-clicked network icon on taskbar, opened Network and Sharing Center
-clicked Set Up a Connection or Network
-clicked Connect to the Internet - nothing happens and the window crashes, I have to CTRL+ALT+DELETE->task manager->restart Windows Explorer
-clicked Manually Connect to a Wireless Network - I enter the details of the wireless network, then it says that the network already exists; I choose to Use the existing network, open the "connect to a network" dialog so I can connect, but then nothing happens. It doesn't crash this time though.

I have tried restarting my laptop multiple times (something that usually works for me in terms of reconnecting to the internet) but that didn't work. And like i said it does not recognize a single wi-fi network while my ipod, phone, and the other computers in my household recognize our wi-fi and our usual neighbors wi-fi without any problem.I was torrentingsome music yesterday, and may or may not have stumbled across a bad site with a virus, but that's the only conclusion I could make.(Currently posting this on my brother's computer)I need to get my connection back and get online again asap?

Suddenly, for some reason, my two Lenovo laptops last week (one is Windows XP and one is Windows 7) couldn't find any wireless networks. When I click on "View Wireless Networks" all that comes up is the Iban computer to computer network.I know the wireless network router is working as I can connect to it with my non 3G iPad. I also took both computers to work and couldn't connect to an open wireless router there.

My internet has been working fine until a few minutes ago, when my connection just vanished. I went to try and reconnect but my Belkin N Wireless USB adapter could not find any wireless networks to connect to. While searching for a connection, the light starts blinking like it is searching, but then it says that it can't find any. Also, when I plug in the adapter, a popup comes up saying that there are wireless networks nearby, but when I click it there are still none.
I've tried reinstalling drivers but still nothing. I'm not sure what else to try because I'm afraid I might mess something up even more.

I've been having major issues with my wireless on this computer (randomly decides not to work while computers in the same room are fine) so I got a new wireless card to see what it could do. Installed it, everything says it's installed fine, but it will NOT detect any wireless networks. Not just mine, any of the 8+ networks I can usually detect from my room. I'm on Win7 Professional 64.
Things I've tried (and I'll be seriously annoyed if people reccomend doing them a 14th time, as I've already spent an hour on livechat with a support person telling me to do things I told her I'd already done):
Installed with 4 different drivers (the ones on the CD, the ones on the website, two versions directly from Ralink for the chipset) Tried both the manual and automatic "update driver" options in device manager. Uninstalled/reinstalled it like 4 times. Moved it to a new PCI slot.
Removed the old adapter before installing it. Removed the old adapter after installing it. Tried connecting to my network as a "hidden" network (which it's not). Installed only the driver and not the adapter utility, and used the utility. Installed the software before physically installing the adapter. Installed it after physically installing the adapter.
I'm at a loss. It doesn't detect ANY networks. No, it's not a problem with my network, there's more than a half dozen that my other adapter, in the same computer, can detect. And I don't know why. It has not ever worked properly. The antennae are on properly, nothing is interfering with it (though that would be odd since it's 3 inches from an adapter that can detect other networks). I might be willing to accept that it's just DoA, but that would be odd considering it installs just fine and reports that it's working just fine.

Recently purchased a Lenovo Ideapad Y580 and performed a fresh install of Win 7 Premium 64-bit on a new SSD. Installed latest drivers for all hardware but discovered after the install that my wireless adapter wasn't able to find any wireless networks (it worked find under Windows 8 when laptop was first unboxed). My wired connection works fine though, I am able to connect up to my network without issue using a network cable. Also, I am able to connect to my home wireless network without issue using another laptop. In addition, the adapter icon in my tray shows a red-X on it. I've found many issues through web searches that suggest driver updates or hardware disable/enable steps but neither of these approaches have worked for me. I am holding off re-installing my OS until I've tried some more simpler and less time consuming options. [code] When I run a hardware test via the Intel Wi-Fi manual diags I get the following: "Wireless Hardware is not bound to transport driver".

So I recently took the WMP54GS ver 1.1 wireless adapter out of my old XP computer and put it in my new Vista 64bit computer. I successfully installed the adapter, downloaded the drivers (WMP54GS-v1.1_v4.102.15.53_Vista_dr), and unzipped them on my C drive to their Linksys Driver folder. When I go to find available networks it says "Windows cannot find any additional networks," and when I try to set up a wireless network it shows a blank window and says "an unexpected error has occurred." I can see the adapter in the device manager, so it obviously installed correctly.

Is there a way to transfer all the 'saved' wireless networks from my current laptop to my new one? I go to many different offices and have probably about 50 wireless networks 'stored' on my laptop. Everytime I go back to that office it just automatically connects. I would hate to have to try and find all these passwords again. Is there a way to transfer all this to my new laptop?

So, I happened to do CD recovery a day ago; *Due to forgetting Administrator password* and now my laptop seems to not be able to pick up any wireless connections when there usually is a ton. Also every time my laptop restarts it always loads saying "Preparing for first time use" Like I used the CD recovery again. which I didn't. I thought that maybe it has to do with the Drivers and such, though im not very tech fancy, so I wouldn't exactly know where to find the correct driver to install, and which to install.[code] Oh and lastly, I happened to notice on Driver manager, that on "other devices" there is a yellow exclamation point, on both of them: Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N + WiMAX 6150 and Network Controller.

why does my laptop not even show any view wireless networks. In the wireless connection status box, it only says properties, disable but where it should say view wireless networks there is nothing! It is blank. Why is this? And how do I get it to view my wireless networks? I have tried a wireless usb adapter which I use for my other laptop. That usb adapter is comptabile with both WEP and WPA and the computer does not pick up the software. I don't know what else to do.

When I click on the Wireless Network Connection icon it says "Wireless network unavailable." There's also an error message that says "The Dell Wireless WLAN Card is disabled. Use the Dell Wireless WLAN Utility to enable it." When I right click on the wireless network icon it says "No wireless networks were found in range. Make sure the wireless switch on your computer is on. To see an updated list, click 'Refresh network list.'" I don't have a wireless switch. I have a wireless enable icon and it says Enabled. My wireless network is working because my phone sees it and two other networks in the neighborhood. I couldn't find the Dell Wireless WLAN Utility. I also tried my iPhone hotspot. Laptop did not detect it either.

I have a HP Probook 4510s. Running Windows 7.
Basically, I turn my laptop on it all loads but when it gets to finding netwoks in the quick link bar the network icon is crossed out, when I hover over it it says "Not connected - No connections are avalible".
It' has done this before and I simply used a Netgear wireless USB adapter to connect to the internet. The problem fixed itself in a few weeks. It's started over again and I was told by a friend to format my harddrive which I did. It's still happening.
When I go to troubleshoot my connections it says Ethernet cable is unplugged. I have another laptop (exactly same as mine), and two desktop computers which all run Windows 7 and can find the network.
