Laptops Cannot Find Wireless Networks

Aug 22, 2011

Suddenly, for some reason, my two Lenovo laptops last week (one is Windows XP and one is Windows 7) couldn't find any wireless networks. When I click on "View Wireless Networks" all that comes up is the Iban computer to computer network.I know the wireless network router is working as I can connect to it with my non 3G iPad. I also took both computers to work and couldn't connect to an open wireless router there.

Computer Won't Find Any Wireless Networks?

We just got our router fixed and everything was working fine till after. Everyone elses computers and my iPod connect just fine. I have done a system restore already and that did nothing. I have no experience with computers. I cannot call tech support cause I am in a foreign country and don't know the language. What else can I try doing to make this work?

Wireless Adapter Cannot Find Any Networks - Connection Vanished?

Jul 11, 2011

My internet has been working fine until a few minutes ago, when my connection just vanished. I went to try and reconnect but my Belkin N Wireless USB adapter could not find any wireless networks to connect to. While searching for a connection, the light starts blinking like it is searching, but then it says that it can't find any. Also, when I plug in the adapter, a popup comes up saying that there are wireless networks nearby, but when I click it there are still none.

I've tried reinstalling drivers but still nothing. I'm not sure what else to try because I'm afraid I might mess something up even more.

Linksys Wireless Adapters :: Wmp600n Does Not Find Any Wifi Networks

Jan 29, 2011

I've been having major issues with my wireless on this computer (randomly decides not to work while computers in the same room are fine) so I got a new wireless card to see what it could do. Installed it, everything says it's installed fine, but it will NOT detect any wireless networks. Not just mine, any of the 8+ networks I can usually detect from my room. I'm on Win7 Professional 64.

Things I've tried (and I'll be seriously annoyed if people reccomend doing them a 14th time, as I've already spent an hour on livechat with a support person telling me to do things I told her I'd already done):

Installed with 4 different drivers (the ones on the CD, the ones on the website, two versions directly from Ralink for the chipset) Tried both the manual and automatic "update driver" options in device manager. Uninstalled/reinstalled it like 4 times. Moved it to a new PCI slot.

Removed the old adapter before installing it. Removed the old adapter after installing it. Tried connecting to my network as a "hidden" network (which it's not). Installed only the driver and not the adapter utility, and used the utility. Installed the software before physically installing the adapter. Installed it after physically installing the adapter.

I'm at a loss. It doesn't detect ANY networks. No, it's not a problem with my network, there's more than a half dozen that my other adapter, in the same computer, can detect. And I don't know why. It has not ever worked properly. The antennae are on properly, nothing is interfering with it (though that would be odd since it's 3 inches from an adapter that can detect other networks). I might be willing to accept that it's just DoA, but that would be odd considering it installs just fine and reports that it's working just fine.

Dell :: XPS M1330 Laptop Suddenly Can't Find Any Wireless Networks

Toshiba Satellite T110 Laptop Can't Find Wireless Networks In The Slightest

May 8, 2011

I have a Toshiba Satellite T110 laptop, and I've recently completely wiped the hard drive, with the OS (Windows 7) being wiped along with it. Anyway, I got a new CD for Windows 7 which was burned however, And once installed, I saw I couldn't find any wireless networks at all. It's like as if it's one of those old classic computers that didn't have wireless. So I bought a Windows 7 CD key online from my iPad. But I couldn't use the product key without Internet, so I did the activate by phone thing. After that it said windows has been successfully activated. Which I don't believe it has anyway. Could any of that possibly be related to my problem of not finding any wireless connections? My laptop was perfectly fine before wiping. my network card adapter thing is an Atheros AR8132 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller (NDIS)

Lenovo Y580 Cannot Find Wireless Networks / Red X On Adapter Icon In Tray

Mar 19, 2013

Recently purchased a Lenovo Ideapad Y580 and performed a fresh install of Win 7 Premium 64-bit on a new SSD. Installed latest drivers for all hardware but discovered after the install that my wireless adapter wasn't able to find any wireless networks (it worked find under Windows 8 when laptop was first unboxed). My wired connection works fine though, I am able to connect up to my network without issue using a network cable. Also, I am able to connect to my home wireless network without issue using another laptop. In addition, the adapter icon in my tray shows a red-X on it. I've found many issues through web searches that suggest driver updates or hardware disable/enable steps but neither of these approaches have worked for me. I am holding off re-installing my OS until I've tried some more simpler and less time consuming options. [code] When I run a hardware test via the Intel Wi-Fi manual diags I get the following: "Wireless Hardware is not bound to transport driver".

Linksys Wireless Adapters :: WMP54GS / Windows Cannot Find Any Additional Networks

Apr 22, 2009

So I recently took the WMP54GS ver 1.1 wireless adapter out of my old XP computer and put it in my new Vista 64bit computer.  I successfully installed the adapter, downloaded the drivers (WMP54GS-v1.1_v4.102.15.53_Vista_dr), and unzipped them on my C drive to their Linksys Driver folder.  When I go to find available networks it says "Windows cannot find any additional networks," and when I try to set up a wireless network it shows a blank window and says "an unexpected error has occurred."  I can see the adapter in the device manager, so it obviously installed correctly.

Laptop Is Unable To Find Any Networks

Recently, I have found out that my laptop is unable to find any networks. I started using what I believe to be an ethernet cable to connect my laptop to the internet because it was faster than wireless. But when I removed the cable and try to connect wirelessly, the computer states that there are no wireless networks in range. I know the wireless adapter is broadcasting because my sister can connect wirelessly to the internet. My WiFi is on, but I can't find any networks.

HP Probook 4510s - Can't Find Any Networks

Jun 8, 2011

I have a HP Probook 4510s. Running Windows 7.

Basically, I turn my laptop on it all loads but when it gets to finding netwoks in the quick link bar the network icon is crossed out, when I hover over it it says "Not connected - No connections are avalible".

It' has done this before and I simply used a Netgear wireless USB adapter to connect to the internet. The problem fixed itself in a few weeks. It's started over again and I was told by a friend to format my harddrive which I did. It's still happening.

When I go to troubleshoot my connections it says Ethernet cable is unplugged. I have another laptop (exactly same as mine), and two desktop computers which all run Windows 7 and can find the network.

Computer Suddenly Cannot Find Networks?

May 15, 2011

My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite, and two days ago it was connecting to the wireless internet just fine. Then it spontaneously disconnected. I went to re-connect and it told me there were no wireless networks in the area at all. I know there are at least 15 in our area my laptop picks up. It was not dropped or shaken in any way, so it is not a hardware problem, I don't think. Hardlining it failed; it said it was connected to "unknown network" and could not connect to the internet.

Windows Vista Home Basic SP1 Cannot Find Any Networks

Sep 13, 2011

I am running 32 bit Vista Home Basic SP1.I cannot get online. When I hover the mouse over the network icon in the notification area, it reads, "Connection status unknown. The dependency service or group failed to start". When I try to diagnose the problem, I can't because the Diagnostics Policy Service is not running. When I try to Start the service, access is denied (Error 5). Same scenario for the service DHCP Client. When I click on Start/Connect To - I get the msg Windows Cannot Find Any Networks Meanwhile, I keep getting warnings that my firewall is not enabled. When I try to enable it, I get a message that the Security Center can't turn it on.

Windows Firewall is not listed in services.msc.I ran a full Malwarebytes scan and it found nothing wrong. I did a system restore to several days before the problem, but even though the restore completed successfully, it didn't change my (non)results. The Network and Sharing Center does not display the familiar PC monitor icon with a line to the Network and another line going from the Network to the Internet. Instead it just has the word Unknown with the caption the depencency or groiup failed to start I have heard that this might be due to a permissions issue, but when I use regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServices and right click on Dhcp, select Permissions, I get an error when I try to add anything (either Local Service or Network Service).

The msg is c:Windowssystem32adsldp.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again..I have run sfc /scannow as well as chkdsk /f. Scannow reported that it found some problems but was unable to fix all of them. Chkdsk found and corrected about 10 errors, but neither of these programs worked with the issue.Additionally I have downloaded and installed Process Monitor on the PC, but the amount of information displayed is overwhelming, and I'm not sure what to check. Every time I try to start DHCP I get about 200 lines of info on the screen.

When I open a command prompt and run ipconfig /all, I get that DHCP is running, although it is not. I get the bogus ip address of 169.254.... I get a default gateway of zeroes. Is it possible that this behavior could simply be the result of a bad NIC card? Can I possibly run an in-place upgrade from Vista Home Basic to Vista Home Premium? If it's a Dell PC and I have the Dell Premium CD will it ask me for the product key? If so, will the key on the Basic PC work?

Unable To Find Wifi Networks On Windows 7 Acer 3810t

May 9, 2011

I have an Acer 3810T laptop and am running Windows 7 on it.The problem I've had is my WiFi has been unstable. For example for 5 minutes or sometimes up to an hour I can easily find wifi networks in range of my laptop but then out of nowhere it disappears and I don't find any networks but any other WiFi device will find my router so I know it's laptop related.I did some research on Google and found out this is an issue others have had with Windows 7 and it seems to be something to do with when updates are installed. I followed the advice to remove my WiFi drivers and reinstall them so I downloaded a file for the Intel drivers from Acer's website. I went into Control Panel and removed 2 devices that were related to WiFi. I then did a scan for hardware and found one wifi device, an Intel WiFI Link 5100AGN. I installed the driver for this one. The problem is I know I removed two and this is the only one the scan found and I can't remember the name of the other wifi device/driver I removed.Unfortunately ever since I did this my WiFi isn't working. In the control panel it shows all drivers are installed and working but when I click on the bars at the bottom of my screen no wifi networks show. I have tried going into the Network and Sharing Center and for example I select set up a connection or network and when I select Manually Connect to a wireless network it states "An Unexpected Error Occured" so I know something is missing that's allowing the WiFI to work.

Bridging Two Wireless Networks?

Aug 27, 2012

My current project is to have a printer that actually works. You don't need one often, but when you do you really need one. I'd like the printer to be wireless as we all use laptops but don't want to have the printer near the router.

The simple solution is to shell out for a wireless printer, but I have access to a cheap (and good) ethernet only printer. Now, how to connect it? I have a spare old router, which I'm thinking of connecting to the printer. I'd then have to get the router to join the network (is that possible?) or somehow bridge them. The to devices to join would be this and this.

Wireless Keeps Cutting Out With Certain Networks?

Jun 13, 2011

I have a windows xp system with a dell wireless WLAN card. I have found that when I try to connect to certain wireless networks - most recently the BBox network through Bouygues Telecom in France - it will connect, work fine for a minute or two, and then disconnect automatically. I can reconnect by going into the WLAN Card Utility and re-entering the WEP password, but I don't know why it cuts off automatically. I also noticed the same thing happening while trying to connect to a friend's wireless in London, England (not sure what the provider was). Other computers don't seem to have the same problem.
