Linksys Cable / DSL :: WAG120n Having Very Poor Signal Strength
Jun 7, 2010I have a linksys router WAG 120n and when using wireless if I move into the next room the signal strength goes down to 40% there is only one single wall in between the room and the router. I have upgraded the firmware to the latest version turned off other electrical devices changed the wireless channels but none of this has worked. Any more settings I can try to get the signal stronger, I really don't want to return the router unless completely necessary.

Jul 17, 2010I've noticed something interesting, after having been disconnected from the WLAN in less than 1 minute in my first experience with this Linksys' Modem Router: The signal strength was poor when browsing the Wireless LAN. I was at home, in a room just beside the one where the router was placed at.So, I took a look at connection status, and saw the signal strength was Medium - Weak: something around 30% and 55% You could think it was due to mirrors, the kind of walls between the rooms, and everything else, but I instantly remembered when browsing WLAN from the same place but not with the same router, the signal was strong (100%)...but I let it alone In the other day, while browsing WLAN, I've noticed another thing, this time visible: "TX power" I've got in connection status was 39mW, while I was almost sure it should be 100mW, based on my past WLAN connections Then, today I decided to take a look more deeply in that, and unboxed my Linksys' WRT54G to test. The test was carried on consisting in both Wireless routers placed in the same room, and a solid wall was between me and the routers.I could connect to the two WLANs, but the status of connections were different.

As you can see, when connecting to WRT54G , signal reached 100% at some point, whereas in WAG120N , such a mark wasn't possible.Of course, the signal strength was unstable in both routers, but the average level in WRT54G WLAN was greater, being most of time over 90%, and never below 80%.In WAG120N WLAN, average was 82%, and lowest level was 55%.When I went to the room where the routers were at, and right in front of them, no need to say both reached 100%, but as you can see, in WAG120n's case, TX power was still 39mw: I believe it's a firmware fault, once all other routers I've connected to always showed TX power as being 100mW.It shoundn't be related to the general hardware, as Cisco products are high-quality ones.

Oct 26, 2011I recently bought an AE1000 wireless adaptor, but I have run into a problem.The range on the device is very low, as the only way to get full signal is when the router and device are right next to each other.I have read that this could be due to the device operating on 5.0Ghz frequency, and that this setting is changed through the Cisco Connect software. This software was not in the Setup CD, and the online installer did not install the software either.

Mar 31, 2011Just bought this WAG120N and using the CD Setup it gets as far as Install Gateway then displays its not connected properly. Checked everything it says to check.Im swapping from an ordinary adsl modem but i unplugged all of that and the WAG120N shows steady Power , 1 ethernet number lit and flashing ok, Wireless is lit and DSL is also also lit. Rebooted a few times too.

Apr 18, 2010I am using WAG120N, and it keeps disconnected from internet randomly, normally between 5-10 minutes. The thing is, when it is disconnected, the adsl lamp is still on, so I think that it is not the network problem. When internet lamp turns off , I try to turn off the device (or unplug the phone cable), then turn it on again (or re-plug the cable), and it will work for certain minutes, then gets disconnected again. I already upgraded the firmware to v 1.00.12.

Jan 31, 2011We have a customer who has a WAG120N as their broadband wireless router, and we've sold them some new equipment, part of which is another WAG120N as our salesperson didn't realise they had one.They have a section of the building which the current WAG120N will not reach. Reading around this forum, it seems that I can give the second WAG120N a different static IP on the LAN and use it to expand the range of the WLAN.If I've read correctly, I need to make all the wireless stuff exactly the same except to use different wireless channels on each router. But what do I do with the DHCP server on the second WAG? Is it fair to say that the clients won't suddenly jump to a different IP because they won't have a cause to request a new one? I read one comment that suggested the second should be configured for DHCP relay, and another which contradicted this. Presumably I just don't configure the ADSL on the second WAG as that will only connect to the LAN.

Nov 29, 2012I recently got a Linksys WAG120n wireless modem but I have a problem with its Wireless.whenever I want to connect to the wireless of the modem I have to reboot the modem. or I cannot connect to it or if I connect I do not have internet access the cable LAN interface of the modem is working is working properly.I used Mixed (b/g/n) as network mode and wpa2/psk as authentication mode with using preshared key.and the channel is 11. no matter if I enable MAC filtering for wireless or not it is just the same.my laptop is a HP G42 with a Ralink 3090 wireless card and I have installed the latest manufacturer driver of the wireless Card.but it is not working .even sometimes laptop cannot find the linksys modem until I reboot the modem.as I have found there is no newer firmwire on cisco site for this modem to upgrade.
