Feb 22, 2013With the E4100 I can setup a LAN game of call of duty mw3 and 1 xbox can join the other, pretty simple, Ive always been able to do this with all xbox games that have LAN ability.With the EA6500 I see the game is availible on LAN, but I can never connect to the game, it tries to connect and says cannot connect.Any LAN settings Im missing here, or just another EA6500 bug to add to the list?

I am hooked up wirelessly to the internet as there is no phone jack in my bedroom, and I experience massive and prolonged lag while playing call of duty 4 multiplayer, which I never had before with my old Thomson modem. My ping also shoots up to about 400 and then 999 while I teleport around the map.

I have different types of network clients connecting to both bands of router (5 ghz and 2.4 ghz), and both bands set to WPA2 only. Everything has been set up and working for the past year with no problems.
Suddenly this morning, none of the 2.4 ghz clients can connect and get authenticated. When I attempt to ping them from a Windows 7 desktop connected by a LAN cable, I get Destination Host Unreachable.
The 5 ghz clients are fine and have had no problems. I tested this with the New iPad connected to the 5 ghz band.
Rebooted the E3000 router and the Comcast cable modem, then installed the newest firmware on the E3000 using the web access portal at 192.168.1.1, and still not working.
Changed the WPA2 Personal security mode for the 2.4 ghz band to WPA2 Personal/WPA Mixed Mode, and now all the clients are connected and authenticated and working OK, albeit slower.
What happened? And how can I fix this so I can change the security mode for the 2.4 ghz band back to WPA2 Personal?
P.S. The types of clients that connect to the 2.4 ghz band are 2 Windows 7 desktops, a Windows 7 laptop, and 5 Cisco Wireless N Internet Home Monitoring Cameras. The camera feeds have slowed down considerably using this Mixed mode.

Apr 27, 2009I would swear this worked at one point. I have a corporate office, and I have IPSec tunnels out to my outside offices. The corporate office has an ASA5510, and most of the remote offices are running off of Pix506s, one office has an ASA5505.
When anyone connects through WebVPN, using AnyConnect or not, they can contact any of the cifs shares for servers inside the corporate office. They cannot, however, contact cifs shares on servers that are in the remote offices.

Dec 22, 2012In the past few days I have seen an odd named Client Host "The-Britannic" show up on my DHCP Active IP Table list. There is no device (that I'm aware of) with that name on my network. I delete it but it reappears, and is linked to the same IP (192.168.1.101) and MAC address everytime, so it appears to be a legitimate device. Although it looks like a legitimate device, it's not - so far as I know. I have added the MAC address to the blocked list (internet access / access restriction) to see if I or anyone in-house losese internet connectivity on any. So far, no. Searching various malware and spyware sites turn up nothing.
I realize the IP address is assigned by the router through the automatic DHCP assignement process. I do not broadcast my SSID and have a complex passcode assigned to both the wireless and internal network. Of course, that is no 100% guarentee that someone has not gotten in.I'm running a WRT54GL, all Windows 7 PC's on a home built network. I'll probably change all the passcodes (wireless and Windows Home Network) to see if that disallows access.

Aug 7, 2011I just purchased an E2500. I have a small home network dominated by Mac and Linux boxes, with an occassional Windows machine. On my previous router I had been running OpenWRT.
One of the nice features of DNSMASQ is that it will do local name resolution from the /etc/hosts file on the router. Is there anyway to turn on similar features in the E2500? I have a NAS box and a networked printer that require local name resolution. I had hoped that I could just create a DHCP reservation for them, and that the router would resolve their names for other hosts on the network. This does not appear to work.
Should I just be boxing this thing up and returning it in favor of a unit I can flash better firmware on to?

The FTP "site" on the E3000 can be seen by all pcs on the internal LAN. However, it can NOT be seen from the internet (Android with FTP client being used for test device)

Jun 23, 2011I replaced my old wireless router with a Cisco Linksys E4200, running firmware version 1.0.02 build 13 May 24, 2011. About once a minute the router sends an unsolicited DNS message to the IPV4 multicast address 01:00:5e:00:00:fb with a destination IP address of 224.0.0.251. The unsolicited message is a DNS response with source port 32784, transaction ID 0, flags 0x8400 (standard query response, no error), questions 0, answer RRs 2, authority RRs 0 and additional RRs 1. The two answers both relate to the router itself: one has Name Cisco18738.local, type A (host address), class 1 (IN), cache flush true, time to live 1 minute, data length 4, and the address of the router. The other is the reverse of the same address. The additional record is for Cisco18738.local, type NSEC, class IN, cache flush true, time to live 1 minute, data length 5, next domain name Cisco18738.local, RR type A (host address).
When my desktop computer receives these messages it logs an error, for example: "Jun 23 07:39:22 sauterws02 avahi-daemon[1067]: Received response from host 10.146.9.1 with invalid source port 32784 on interface 'eth0.0'" The 10.146.9.1 is the router's IP address. I also see these messages on the wireless link from my laptop.I suppose the E4200 is generating these DNS messages in a misguided attempt to make sure there is no old information about its name. Is there a way to turn them off? If not, is there a way to report this to Cisco as a bug?

Apr 2, 2012I have an e3000 that cannot obtain an address from the ISP. I can get an address on the computer and an old router by directly connecting the cable to the computer or the router. I can also daisy-chain the e3000 to the old router, and I can get an address on the e3000 from the old router. I have hard reset the e3000, changed firmware from the Linksys to TomatoUSB and back to Linksys, and I still can't get it to work. It worked fine on Saturday until a bolt of lightning hit close to the house. Since then, I cannot get the e3000 to connect to the ISP.

And it's not just the internet, I have a media server connected to it, and usually when I put something on it, the transfer rate is about 3.5MB/s (not bits, bytes). But everything is slow, I top out at speed of maybe 1/6 normal on the internet as well.

Apr 19, 2010Has anyone tested QoS on the new E3000? Whenever I add an application (e.g. Voice Device) and set priority to Medium or High, my upstream bandwidth for everything else is immediately cut significantly, even when I'm not using the priority application.
For example, with QoS disabled, I can consistently get 10Mb upstream (speedtest.comcast.net). As soon as I enable QoS, upstream is capped to exactly 2Mb! On my old router, there was an option to set the total upstream bandwidth -- but on the E3000 there is no such option that I can find.

Sep 12, 2011Currently I have Verizon DSL and which supplied me with a Westell 7500 modem/wireless router. I am also connecting a Linksys WRT54GS (firmware Version: 7.2.08) to the Westell 7500.
When I connect via cable or wireless to Linksys WRT54GS I am not able to establish VPN connection. I get the error “Error 619: A connection to the remote computer could not be established. So the port used for this connection was closed”.
However, when I connect via cable or wireless to Westell 7500 I am able to connect to VPN.
I tried resetting the Linksys WRT54GS to factory settings and reconfigured but no success to VPN.
At work we have a Windows 2003 setup with VPN Role on it and on my laptop I am using the built in VPN connection within Windows 7.

Dec 22, 2012I've been having an issue with my internet connection, which has been getting a lot worse over the past 1 month. I purchased the WRT120N about a year and a half ago, and occasionally observed dropped connections, but it was no big deal. Over teh past month or so, however, it seems like I get the "DNS lookup failed" error about every 15-30 minutes. Every time, I have to disconnect and reconnect my computer to my router. In addition, I will be disconnected from XBox Live. This problem may occur every 5 minutes or every few hours.
I have updated the firmware on the router. I have reset the router, and have reset DNS 1 t0 8.8.8.8 and DNS 2 to 8.8.4.4. THe network is configured as a DHCP. The X-Box has a wired connection, and my laptop experiences this problem whether I use a wired connection or a wireless one.
