Linksys Wireless Router :: E3200 Low Speed Routing WAN-to-LAN
Apr 13, 2012
I have a problem with low throughput E3200 router. I have about 250 Mbps speed connection by Cisco EPC3925 cable modem. If I connect my computer directly to the cable modem, I can easily obtain the speed of downloading data from a fast servers about 200 Mbps and even more. When I'm connecting through E3200 I can get about 80-100 Mbps when downloading data from the same sources. I have tested this on few computers with different operating systems (Win7, Mac OS X) and there is no change. Between the cable modem and the E3200 router the cable link is @ 1Gbps. Also, between the computer and the router is a 1Gbps link. If i change router E3200 for cheaper and weaker model WRT320N then I can easily get about 200Mbps.I have the latest available soft in my router E3200 (1.0.03). I'm disappointed with low productivity, this router is not cheapest one

I currently use a Linksys E3200 and mainly direct connect it to my laptop. My current ISP is with Insightbb to which I use their 20.0 (20 Mbps) service. For the past 6 or 7 months I've had little to no issues with my internet connection until about a week ago. While directly connected to the E3200 I used to get up to about 20/21 Mbps at a constant rate. Yet now I'm lucky to get up to 13/14 Mbps. Also, the speed will sometimes fluctuate; shooting to as low as 8 Mbps and shooting as high as15 Mbps. I can verify that my ISP is not the issue. I've directly connected my laptop to the modem with success and received a healthy speed of up to 23 Mbps with no fluctuations. The problem only occurs once I directly connect to the router. Attempting to connect wirelessly shows the same, if not worse, problems.
I've attempted numerous factory resets and used the 30:30:30 method to no avail. I've tried power cycling the modem, router and laptop. I've tried disconnecting the router for up to 10 minutes. I've upgraded the firmware to the most recent update. I've tried setting a static IP. I've tried imputing the MTU manually. I've tried setting a MAC address clone. I've tried turning on/off UPnP. I've tried release/renewing my IP address. I've tried flushing my DNS. All of which I power cycled the router after each and every attempt.

my Linksys E3200 router is somehow slowing my internet download speed by a lot. Direct wired connection from computer to modem gets me around 200Mbps download speed, but if I connect thru my Linksys E3200 router (wired connection, not wifi), the download speed goes down significantly to ~70Mbps. The E3200 is only connected to the modem and my computer (i.e. I have unplugged all other devices from the E3200 router). Are there setttings in the E3200 that can potentially cause it to limit the speed or could this be caused by something else?

We recently purchased a Linksys E3200 router, because our old router didn't take advantage of our internet speed. The router works fine, though the internet speeds again isn't as much as expected.
With a wired connection, we only get 80 Mbit/s of our full 120 Mbit/s, according to Speedtest.net. The Cisco Connect built-in speed test is even worse; only 40 Mbit/s. When we directly plug the computer into the modem, we get the full 120 Mbit/s, which indicates that the modem does have the connection speed. The router just doesn't give it to the computers attached.
I don't know about my wireless speed, as my wireless card in the laptop clearly is the bottleneck (it can only connect at 65 Mbit/s). Atheros AR9285 ftw.
We tried different cables, the one included with the router gives the same speed.

Got a Linksys E3200, and a gigabit card, even two, Realtec and Intel, have a connection ggbit. If the power cord plug directly into netcard, all at great, the tracker up to 80 MB per second, shakes on speedtest.net, shows 780 240 + Mbps. When i connect my inet through the router, the speed drops to 12 MB(100 Mbit) and speedtest the same, but in the the web interface in the statistics shows that everything is connected to a gigabit.
Plus, when I ping my ISP's website (ip -t ) and assume [URL] click on the test, the router with 1ms pings are beginning to rise to 30 ms, and when it is directly in netcard, it stable 1ms.... When through the router, torrent shake it just do up to 100ms jumps. I have all the settings , and set up his hands, and a manager, all for nothing. It started five days ago, before that everything was ok. Can a router burn? Rather it gigabit controller?

E3200 works great until I enable QoS. The device uses QoS and works find until reboot. If QoS is enabled and the device is rebooted, its stops routing from LAN side to Internet side. Administration-->Diagnostics allow me to ping/trace route to Internet sites and local LAN clients but cannot reach Internet from local LAN.
Windows networking icon indicates "No Internet access". I can ping other devices on local LAN.
Disabling QoS restores routing and you can re-enable QoS after that and all is well. Unfortunately, if there is a power failure when I', not there to disable/re-enable QoS afterward, other household members can't use the Internet till I get home.
Wondering if any other QoS users have observed the same problem.

I just discovered that my wireless download speeds are 5Mbps, compared to 16Mbps if my laptop is connected directly to the modem or wired through the router. Uploads are 2Mbps either way. I have a WRT54GS v.6 with firmware version v1.52.8 which I updated today, completed by setting factory default through the router webpage after I discovered this discrepancy. The firmware update did not improve the download speed appreciably, if at all.Should the wireless connection be that much slower than the wired connection through the router? If not, what sort of issues could I be having to account for this?
I did just replace my modem when I discovered I was having erratic speedtests and that corrected that problem. That is when I became aware of the wireless issue, so not sure how long that has been the case. I have Charter's 16/2 HSI, living in a sparsely populated area with solid internet service. There is no external nor internal interference on this 2.4Ghz band.

Trying to convert a spare router (Linksys E3200) into a wireless access point toextend my wireless coverage. I thought knew how to do this but having a problem.Steps I followed are:1. Disable the E3200 DHCP server2. Change E3200ip address from 192.168.1.1 to something else3. Disable the firewall4.Make wireless settings5. Connect it lan port to lan port with primaryrouter. The problem I am having is that after I finish step 2 the routerreboots with the browser trying to access it at the new ip address. But thebrowser will not connect.I am doing this on a laptop that is disconnected from my network while I am working on the E3200. It is connected byan ethernet cable to an E3200 lan port. I also tried it wireless with the same result. Browser will not connect at any ip address except 192.168.1.1 and then only after I factory reset the beast to regain the 192.168.1.1 ip address

I have been using an E3200 and it has been working great. I know have a need for wireless coverage in a distant part of my house and the current router won't get there. I also need wired in that spot of the house as well. I thought to buy a e1200 to use it as a WAP for that part of the house and also to have a few Ethernet ports come off it. Can I connect to my original E3200 wirelessly from the e1200 and then use the e1200 as a WAP and for Ethernet?

I just upgraded my router from 1.0.03 to 1.0.04, I have a few questions:After installing the firmware, I pressed the reset button at the back for almost 1mn, the power lighted as expected, I then unplug the power cord for 30 sec.The strange thing is that this did not lead to a reset of the configuration, all my settings are still here...!But the actual problem is that my internet speed is divided by two, I still have to confirm this observation on the long term.

I have to reboort my router every day to get back an internet connection? I have a desktop and a laptop plus iPads, etc. The laptop loses connectivity every day about the same time. My only solution so far is to reboot the router. I realize that the client lease time is set to 1 day by default but isn't it supposed to ask the modem for another day of life when this happens?

I have a 6 year old wrt54g that is working fine but old. I want to upgrade and will go with the 3200 or 4200. I really don't need the extra features on the 4200 since everything I have is hardwired (directly to two laptops and to two switches in other parts of the house for tv and printer). I want wireless for times when we move a laptop but it wouldn't be all the time, and we won't (for now) use the media options. The difference in price between the 3200 and 4200 is less than $25 so costs is NOT a factor in deciding. So should I just purchase the 4200 since price is not a factor or go with 3200; I want the most stable of the two and will never need the extra wireless features in the 4200.

I used to have a Belkin router which was losing connectivity throughout the day for a few short moments. After looking at the logs it appears it was issueing a DHCP release randomy which explained the fault. Since it was old router I decided to replace it with a E3200. This worked fine for a few days but then I started to see similar symptions. So currently I am trying to figure out if it's the same issue as before. I tried looking for a log on the router to see if it was also losing/releasing the WAN IP, but apparently the router doesn't log it. I spoke to a tech rep on chat, but I don't think they understand what I was talking about (how frustrating). I even tried to explain it another way that if I hit the 'Release IP address' button and then hit the "Renew IP Adresss' button does this activity get logged.
Where can I find a log to see DHCP activity (on the WAN interface)? There is a DHCP log which shows all the LAN activity but this is not what I need for this issue. I find it hard to believe a mature vendor like Linksys doesn't log this activity?

House has 2 floors. I want to install 2 E3200, one on each floor, but both with the same SSID/Password, etc. so internet connection/streaming throughout the floor is seamless.
Both floors have network wall sockets ready and they all lead to the same modem/router so all devices plugged lead to the same network.
PS. both E3200 have been update to Firmware Version: 1.0.03

I have bought Linksys E3200 less than month ago.I have setup it, connected HD (WD My Book 1TB) through USB and it work good, without any problem.Than week ago, I turned off the router, because of my vacation. Yesterday, I came back, turned on the router. WiFi was working good, cable connection too. But there was no connection to HD. I had checked information about HD on admin page, router understood that it is HD, but not provided share access to folder, also, there was no button, to setup it.I disconnected HD, tried to connect it using the Cisco Connect, it provided mistake with USB connection to HD and than with HTTP connection to router. I disconnected HD, tried to connect it manually: connect HD -> go to admin page -> refresh to show HD -> admin page freeze... -> reboot of router manually.
There was a lot of tries to connect HD, but all was failed.I connect HD to computer, it works successfully.I checked connection to router through USB, using my card reader and SD flash card, it works successfully.Information about HW:
1. Linksys E3200, last update of firmware for German (was bought using German Amazon) country. (Cannot check it now, if needed will check)
2. Computer: Windows XP SP3
3. WD My Book 1TB (NTFS)

I just picked up the E3200 and love it. This morning I hooked up my printer via the USB. Everything went smooth until I tried to print something. I thought nothing was happening, but I let it sit for a while. While I was waiting, I was messing around with my network setting in windows. I realized that my network had been set to 'work' for some reason, so I changed it to 'home'. As soon as I did, my printer spit out my test page. (probably 5 min after sending the doc.) I don't know if it was just coincidence or what, so I sent another page and nothing happened (yet).
Is this common to take that long? Is there a way to speed this up?

I have the following setup:
Comcast "Blast!" coming in the wall @ 50Mbps
Motorola SB6121 Modem
Cisco e3200 router
HP Pavilion dv6-6135dx with a ralink rt5390 wireless adapter
The problem is I get about 50mbps (speed test.net) when hooked direct to modem and about 50mbps when wired directly to router. But as soon as I go wireless, I drop to about 17mbps.
All the equipment should support higher speeds. I would expect a drop in speed on wireless but not that much. My computer is in the same room about 10 feet away.

I just upgraded from a Linksys WRT54G to an E3200.I'm thrilled w/ the bells and whistles (e.g. 5 GHz for video to my Boxee and USB connection to my printer for wireless printing), but it seems that on the 2.4 GHz channel, the strength on the E3200 seems to be lower than it was on the WRT54g.I've placed the E3200 exactly where the WRT54G was, and I notice that on all my mobile devices, I either get no signal or a very week signal in my living room. W/ the WRT54G, the signal wasn't 100%, but it was definately better than what it is w/ the E3200.
I have the latest firmware and have adjusted the MTU down to 1400 (I'd left it at 1500 on the WRT54G and it always worked fine). I've also tried to adjust the 2.4 GHz channel to be Wireless-G only network mode and still no luck. I've tried these individually and in combination.
Is the E3200 just broadcasting a weaker signal at 2.4 the my older WRT54G? Should I return it and get another router or is there something I can do to boost the 2.4 signal? Or is there come other configuration I should try to play with?

New E3200 router (a few weeks old).
Using the manual settings under Status/Router and clicking the Disconnect button (by Login Status), the page reloads, and say I am disconnected.
Without any input from me, about 30 seconds later the page reloads and say I am connected.
Clicking disconnect, closing the tab and testing my connection proves that I'm not actually being disconnected at all. I cannot force this router to manually disconnect.
Is this a firmware bug or is there another setting else where that prevents me from manually shutting down my connection?
Edit: Firmware 1.0.04 build 1 Apr 10, 2012

I managed to connect my USB printer (and tested ok) through the E3200 router using the Cisco Connect programme on Windows 7. I note that there was an option for a USB Printer connection in the set-up screen.
When I tried it on the Mac using Mac OSX 10.7.3 and Cisco Connect Ver 1.4, I noted that there was no option for a USB Printer connection.

Purchased E3200 and did simple setup via CD setup (Cisco connect). Set up main name and password. Cisco Connect assigned "-guest" to end of main name for the guest account. Gave guest account its own password. Both main and guest accounts were broadcasting OK -- but guest account was not secure and could be accessed without password. (All software and firmware upgrades were done during initial setup).Reset the E3200 and restarted things from the CD setup. Created main account, main account password, and guest password again. In advanced settings, left basic wireless settings at initial settings, changed wireless secutiy to WPA2 Personal. Still having the guest account being broadcast in unlocked status. (Have turned off guest access for now until I can get password protection for it).

The problem I have was that last night I unplugged my router and replugged it back in. As soon as that happened, there was no connection between my router and the modem. This morning, I tested to see if it was the modem by connecting an ethernet cable from my desktop to it, and was able to get online. Then, II reset the router and a sucessful connection was made between the two. On my desktop my old network was gone, but the Cisco network was there, leading me to create a new network as if it was a new router. After setting up a new network, I am not able to connect to the internet.
