I get a timeout in Cisco Connect when I select "Connect USB drive". Also there is no detection through the router website. The hard drive works fine when I hook it up via USB. It's NTFS formatted. Is there any other way to make the router detect the drive? (It does recognize a USB stick, so it's no hardware issue on that side)
View 5 RepliesI plug in the external HDD to USB, and I can see the device on the router setup page. I can see the media server running on every DLNA device in the house. I can even FTP in to the external HDD. But nothing, no way, no how can allow me to map the network drive using the IP address of the router.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a series of problems I think are due to my 310N. First, with Facebook, I will suddenly be redirected to a248.e.akamai.net., which Chrome flags as an SSL error. Second, with (and only with) NYTimes.com, I will get "file not found" (and no numerical error) when trying to retrieve an article (via Chrome). AND, again only with NYTimes.com, I will get high-bit ascii characters in headlines. For other sites, I will get "invalid url" messages on web pages. If I unplug the modem and let it rest for 30 seconds, that seems to solve the problem. I have to do this at least once a day.
More than once a day. I don't think it's a 310N problem; but I've asked about this on other forums and got no useful reply. Previously I had similar problems with my 160 router. So, it's not the router. HOWEVER, shutting it off works with lot of the problems. Right now, after shutting off the router and turning it back on, now Facebook just doesn't come up at all. No error, just don't come up. I can ping it.
I have a secondary router (E1200) on my home network, connected LAN to LAN. I use it mainly for wired connections, and it does work for that. But when I try to access this router through the IP address, I get a page that says only "ACT_IDLE". Occasionally, I am able to access, but I've found no pattern to when the router is accessible and when it is not...mostly not.

Internet connectivity stops, unable to log into ea6500 completely frozen, but still routes to other LAN devices (like the SPI firewall i have the monitors network usage). then ranomdly comes back, and goes. can switch AP, and other will work, non-stop. is DEFINATELY ea6500.
sometimes I have to power cycle 6-7 times before it will maintain a wireless network that doesnt drop every 15-30 seconds.otherwise when i connect to the wireless, it log on for 10-15 seconds, then drops off and "Attempts" to reconnect.often stalls out, and crashs when USB external drive is connected at first. (again, power cycle 6-7 times to get to work properly)windows 7, and OS X 10.8 on 3 differant machines.
seems to connect better on the windows machines, and sometimes connecting with a windows machine allows apple ones to connect properly after... weird (OS X bugging up DHCP server? bacisally, when it goes down. it can take an hour to get my wireless back up, power cycle, and then see if its working proplerly, it usually isn't, try again... etc.
I have used wireless routers in the past...but have just purchased a Cisco E2500. When attempting to set it up using the CD I am asked to assign name + password.....I do this and but the ?? is unable to find the router. This despite the fact that it is 8 ft. away and showing up with 5 bars on my networks available display. When I attempt to connect without going thru the setup it asks me for the password which is part of the setup process..
View 3 Replies View RelatedI thought I would leave a message on a problem. I did two chats to the support desk and this was not brought up and it is obvious. I just installed the 4200v2 as a replacement for a NetGear. I bought for the n performance and the USB for a shared disk/media file server. I connected a640G Western Digital My Book to the USB. I was able to see the drive in the asp interface of the router, but I kept getting the "error code: 0x80070035 network path not found" message. My computer is a 6 month old HP with Windows 7 running Bitdefender Internet. I found I could get to the drive from my wife's Toshiba (only used for browsing, so minimal security), so I thought it was a firewall issue (also what Cisco said). After doing some Internet mining, I found that the issue is the Netbios setting in IPv4. My PC had the setting Default, which requires the DHCP server to provide the setting and apparently this was not set by the 4200. Without Netbios the disk cannot be mapped. Changing this to NetBios "enabled" solved the problem. This can be reached by going into the Control panel:Network and Sharing Center. Click on the connection (either local area or wireless), then open the properties, click on the TCPv4, Click properties, then advanced. Go to the Win tab and select Netbios enabled.

I have been going back and forth on the WD board trying to resolve a remote access issue with the mybook and I am being told to do some settings in the router and I am not sure I have dine them correctly> It has not resolved the issue but I would like to make sure I am correct before I claim its not a good fix. The mybook is connected into a network port on the router which is connected to a High Speed modem and then out to the internet. Initially I was told to enable UPnP on the 825, which was already enabled. Then this is what I was told to do by a WD tech. You could try assigning a static IP to the My Book Live, then making sure ports 80 and 443 are assigned to that IP on your router. It is possible that something else is taking one of these ports. We use uPnP to try to open up these ports, and if it fails, we resort to relay mode. In the future, we will allow you to set these ports within the My Book Live to other than 80 and 443.

If one unchecks the radio button for the enable firewall the sessions do not timeout at all. This is very reproducable in all recent (1.3.9) versions of RV042 and RV082 routers.

I have https only set up, and after I get thru the 'certificate error' screen, I get an error that says web page is unavailable. Firfefox tells me that the connection was lost - error 101.I have tried wired and wireless, multiple computers, multiple browsers. I even turned the firewall off on one computer (or I think I did anyway).The only way I know how to fix it is by completely resetting then setting up the router all over again.
View 2 Replies View RelatedUpgraded from WRT610N to E4200. Since upgrading to latest firmware the wan just disappears both 5 and 2.5 Ghz bands. Happened with older firmware but not as often. Using it in briged mode. When this happens I can't even get to the management page with a lan connected pc. Have to do a hard reboot to get it to respond again. This is unacceptable for a router at this price point.

How do I have the E4200 act as a WAP only or not assign IP addresses and push that responsibility to the TZ100?

I have a 6 month old Cisco e-4200 router that is updated to the latest firmware, connected to a Motorola surfboard modem on Sudden-link in Midland, TX.
I previously used this exact same setup on Cox Cable in Wichita, KS with no problems. Upon setting it up down here I cannot get the router to pickup an IP address. I have Power-cycled everything multiple times, did a complete reset and re-installation of the router software and still no luck. The Sudden-link techs have no idea what is wrong. They said that the modems signal is strong and everything should be working.
Actually I did get it to work once for a couple of days, however when redoing the surround sound system I had to unhook the cable line and it quit working and I haven't gotten it to work again since. I have tried unhooking everything. Turning it all off. Waiting for 5+minutes, and then reconnecting in order: First the modem, then an ethernet cable to the computer which will usually work. But as soon as I unplug the cable from the computer and plug it into the router it stops working.
I bought Linksys E4200, at a time that is the TOP of the line Cisco routers for Home use.I noticed a serious usage issue with it, I could not identify which are the wifi devices connected to choose for access restriction or parental controls, as the dialog box state only as "Network device", and software control by Linksys does not have any provision to use MAC ID or any other option "except " looking at the dialog box as "Network device".

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just received by replacement e4200 v1. I updated the firmware to 1.0.03 build 14 and am up and running just fine. The specs say e4200 should be 300+450Mbps. I am using a software "inSSider 2.0" to view my wireless setup. I get 144(N) at 2.4GHz and 450(N) at 5.2GHz. Please note these are max bit rates and not connect speed or throughput rate. The "inSSider" software gives me the following:
2.4GHz - 1/2/5.5/6/7/9/11/12/14/18/22/124/28/29/36/43/44/48/54/58/65/72/86/116/130/144
5.2GHz - 6/9/12/15/18/24/30/36/45/48/54/60/90/120/135/150/180/240/270/300/360/405/450
I get this information by hovering on the max bit rate field on the row displaying my SSID. So is it correct to say that my e4200 is not designed to reach 300Mbps at 2.4GHz. There is an earlier discussion thread about connection maxing out 144. Please note I am not talking about connect speed or thru-put speed. Max design bit rates of dual band router labeled e4200.
Just got a e4200. However I also have a cisco av power line adapter which worked fine. However when connecting to the 4200 it doesn't recognize the Internet. Have rebooted, reset switched ports etc. But it still doesn't work. It sees the network but not the Internet. Have tried everything ikon but no luck. Cannot connect my directive to the Internet. If I can't get it to work will have to run a 50 foot cable.

Windows and Linux clients on my local network discovered IPv6 addresses and were able to use them successfully.Unfortunately, after the upgrade to 1.0.03 this functionality was gone. I missed reading the ChangeLog, which said that the automatic tunneling feature was removed in 1.0.01. The now provided IPv6 functionality works much less well. First, automatic configuration (discovery of the 6to4 via IPv4 anycast) no longer works with Comcast's gateway. If I configure the tunnel manually, by specifying a 2002/16 prefix, I regain IPv6 connectivity, but only for Linux clients on my local network.
Windows 7 clients suffer from the problem that because the E4200 hands out ULA addresses, they end up preferring those ULA addresses when making global IPv6 connections in the IP 'source' field, which of course does not work. It's like putting your company mailbox code as the return address on a letter you send via US Mail. Other home routers, such as the AVM Fritz! (url,...) suffer from the same problem. However, they provide an option to turn off ULA at the router.Is it possible to turn off ULA for the E4200?
I have a E4200 router v.01 and when i updated the latest firmware (due to security exploit) it seems that whenever i acess the router settings (192.168.1.1) it doesn't ask me nor to input the admin and the password anymore, using wifi or wired.. I want the usual proccess whenever i go to 192.168.1.1 it will ask me to input my admin and password to change my router settings..

The VPN client cannot connect unless I either (a) bypass the E4200 and connect directly to my cable modem or (b) disable the SPI Firewalls on the router. I have all the VPN passthroughs set to "enable" on the router, but still cannot connect. The VPN client is using IPSEC over TCP on port 10000.

I know my current WAN address and have setup a specified folder on my E4200 for the FTP partition. A username for myself has been created with login info and I have forwarded the port I have specified on my router's FTP configuration page.
I try to log into the server, but whenever I try to log into it, I keep getting a "incorrect login information" message back at me.
If I cancel out of that then I get an error message saying it can't find the specified folder and to check the address of the server.
I know the login information information is correct and I've tried changing the password to others of varying lengths.
I've also tried changing the port I'm running the FTP off of incase my ISP has blocked that port, nothing works.
I have a 6 year old wrt54g that is working fine but old. I want to upgrade and will go with the 3200 or 4200. I really don't need the extra features on the 4200 since everything I have is hardwired (directly to two laptops and to two switches in other parts of the house for tv and printer). I want wireless for times when we move a laptop but it wouldn't be all the time, and we won't (for now) use the media options. The difference in price between the 3200 and 4200 is less than $25 so costs is NOT a factor in deciding.So should I just purchase the 4200 since price is not a factor or go with 3200; I want the most stable of the two and will never need the extra wireless features in the 4200.

I looked through these threads and tried disabling the 2.4Ghz band and it still remains at 130Mbps. There was no change, also read I can try set up a secondary SSID. I can ping the routers internal IP, as well as the cable modem and other external IPs. But all port forwarding through the E4200 is failing.Should the default security/firewall setting allow port forwarding? Or do some settings need to change?

If I bring my E4200 v2 router from home & connect it to their modem, will my Toshiba 16GB Thrive be able to access the internet via WiFi? When I initially set up the router, I ran the router CD on my laptop, and the Thrive automatically accessed the internet. Will the Thrive automatically do the same when I connect the router at the new location. There is no computer there to run the router software. Will the the network be secured as it is at home?
