Linksys Wireless Router :: How To Optimize WRT-400n For Internet TV
Jul 29, 2011
I have been using a WRT-400n for a while with 2 pc's .. a tower close to it, and a laptop about 50 ft away in another room. As far a I can tell, I'm only using the 2.4GHz band on channel 11.We just added a Sony Bravia HD TV and a Sony Blu-ray VD player (which is really, as far as I can see, a cool internet access device which happens to play DVD's). Out favorite use is to watch TV shows and movies from Amazon. Problem is, streaming is very patchy, and sometimes what Amazon calls "connection speed" (which I think is really network bandwidth) gets so low thta the buffering fails, and we lose whatever we're watching.

My E3200 is set up with no encyrption/ security. The 5GHZ band is set to wireless N, channel width is set to Auto (20 or 40) channel is also set to auto. I have my 2 laptops connected on the 5GHZ band and both have excellent connection with 300mbps. I'm transfering some files between the 2 and an only getting 7MB (so ~56mbps). Both laptops are running windows 7 ultimate.
I've tried transfering music, videos, and some ISO's.

How can I optimize my computer's connection speed? I'm using a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop, and I used to have Vista installed on it. When I used that, my connection(via speedtest.net) was around 25mbps. I reformatted it last Summer and installed Windows XP Service Pack 3 onto it. A few months ago, I used speedtest.net and my speed test was around 16mbps. Now, my speed test is 8mbps. How can I optimize my internet connection speed? My internet service provider is Comcast.

How can I optimize my router to get maximum transfer speeds? I average 72 Mbps.Notebook-Speedtest.net 31.58Mbs down/3.08 up. I'm just confused about transfer speeds not being 300 Mbps. Can or should I correct this? When I purchased router it said the transfer speeds would be 300Mbps.

I have a cable modem connected to a wireless router hard-wired to two separate ps3's. I am looking to get the optimum connection speeds out of my ps3. i have been told to use a switch instead of my router. i also want wireless in my house as well. modem switch (ps3 ps3 router)? if i connect my modem directly to one ps3 my ps3 will not find an ip address will this problem remain if i go through the switch or will it find an ip address? will this optimize my connection? will my connection be better if when not in use i unplug the thernet cable going to the wireless router from the switch? is there any other way to optimise my connection speed on my ps3?

We are suffering slow https traffic download. We have a CISCO ASA 5550, Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance Software Version 8.0(5)19. When we try to download some videos from an https server we have a data download rate of about 140 kbps, but if we bypass the firewall and put a laptop just after the border router, data rate increase up to 350-400 kbps.
We configured a new interface in the firewall and we connected a laptop directly to the port in the ASA 5550, with a new ACL permit ip any any, just for test purposes, but data rate is still the same, 140 kbps.

I can connect to my router but either way it seems like i can't get any internet access (both wireless and by cable): url...I have tried the steps that the linksys FAQ suggests shall fix this problem, but this has not worked. I have also tried to reset the router without any luck. I know it its not the modem that is causing the problem because I'm wired to it now.On the E2000 every light is blinking as it should be (hence the FAQ) so it indicates that there might be a problem with the connection between the router and the computer (tested on other computers too without success).

We have a home use WRT160N router linked to a PC desktop and two wireless laptops, Yesterday bought a new I-Phone, but could not link to my network (entered the security key many times). I accidentally connected to computer fix it firm that linked to my PC and wanted a large sum to fix the problem which he said was due to large number of temp?? internet files and once removed he would change the IP address of the desktop computer? Is this diagnosis logical and can I do it on my own. The router is definetely working - both laptops access the internet and I was recently able to hook up a Samsung Blu-Ray player using the same security code I used for the I-Phone.

Router 1: I have a WRT120N wireless router connected to the Internet. It has IP 192.168.1.1 and DHCP is enabled with address range 192.168.1.100 up.
Router 2: I have a WRT310N router connected to the LAN via LAN port to ethernet jack in the wall (not WAN/Internet port). It has ip 192.168.1.2 and DHCP is DISABLED.
All the devices on my network can see each other. Devices connecter to router 1 can see devices connected to router 2.The problem is, devices connected to router 2 cannot get to the Internet. I verified clients connecting to router 2 are assigned the same DNS addresses and the same gateway 192.168.1.1 as the clients connected to router 1. But for some reason router 2 doesn't know how to router Internet traffic out through router 1?
I tried plugging the LAN cable into the Internet/WAN port on Router 2 but then devices on Router 2 can no longer see devices on Router 1. I've seen discussions of setting up router 2 on its own subnet: 192.168.2.1 instead of 192.168.1.2 but then supposedly devices on router 2 will still not be able to see devices on router 1.
I'm guessing router 2 can't access the Internet because it is default configured to send Internet traffic to the Internet port, no t the LAN port. how to configure it so all devices on both routers see each other and router 2 devices can get to the Internet.

I am trying to setup my E4200 to my new Cable Modem. I followed all of the procedures. I get Internet access when plugged directly to modem. I cloned the MAC Address and the Stus of the Router displays my current IP's (so I should have Internet). However, when I plug my computer into the Router I get no internet access.

I connected EA6500 internet port to actiontec router provided by Verizon fios. I don't have any other way to connect as FIOS connection is coax to actiontec modem. I must take a drop from actiontec to internet port on EA6500.
With that said, I can't get EA6500 to work, it keeps saying no internet. The only way I can get it to work is when I set it to bridge mode. This makes my EA6500 a dumb switch/access point. I didn't spend $200 for a switch. I need to use advanced features offered by this router but I can't until this problem is fixed. I made sure I am running latest version of firmware (1.1.28.146856).
I have reset my fios router as well as ea6500 to factory defaults multiple times.

I have a problem with the e4200 router and a mybook 1 TB connected to it. The media server works fine but after a while i loose contact with the router and the server this means that the Cisco connect doesn't work, the 192.168.1.1 doesn't work and I can't find the disk via \. I do have internet connection via wifi as im using it now....why I loose connection to the router? The lease time is 24h and it can happen more than once in a day.

I bought a Cisco-Linksys E3200 8 months ago and it worked well until last month. I usually power down the router after midnight & power up in the morning and evevry time it can connect to internet through DSL modem without problem until this Feb. Most of the time after powering up the router it just can't connect to internet anymore. I am sure the AT&T DSL modem is working. I have to reboot/reset the router & DSL modem several time to get router to connect to internet again. The order of resetting/rebooting DSL modem & E3200 router seems to make no difference. It just appears suddenly the router can connect to internet by chance. I changed router IP and it didn't work either. It's really annoying becuase I have to spend 10~40 minutes to resetting/rebooting DSL modem & router to get internet connection every day.

I'm unable to even get an internet connection with my router, so I cannot access the router configuration settings page. I already made sure that the ethernet cables weren't the problem. I hook the cables up as instructed, but can't get the internet connection. I'm running Winows Vista Home Premium and according to my ISP (cable service), the ISP settings should already be set up to connect automatically with the router. It's a used router (not new) and I've already reset it several times..

My 'network' looks like this:
CABLE MODEM ===> WRT54G
WRT54G Port1 ===> PC
PC is running Windows/XP sp3 with all updates installed. It has no wireless adapter.WRT54G model number sticker shows ver.2. I don't think the firmware has ever been upgraded.This used to work. What has changed? The laptop that used to connect wireless is dead. I now have a 2nd PC that sits on the same table as the old PC. It has no wireless adapter at this point, but eventually either it, or the old computer, will be getting its internet connection wireless-ly, as the computers will be physically in separate rooms. I can't see how these changes would affect the operation of the router.

I have a 2wire modem connected to the Internet port of my WRT54GS which is connected to a D link DSS 16+ Fast Ethernet switch. Without the switch, I can connect wired and wirelessly to my WRT54GS. However, when I put connect my any port of my D link switch to ports 1 - 5 of WRT54GS, I loose internet all together either wired/wireless to the router or wired to the D-link switch.I wonder why the IP Address will change as I understand that the switch is just a pass through switch.

The unit seems to be Ok, but it's not. Power light is solid blue, Internet light is flashing blue when connected to cable modem, when wireless is on wireless light flashes blue, when ethernet cable is connected the correct 1-4 blue light flashes.The unit issues IP addresses wirelessly with or without security, and on ethernet, but with no Internet access.I can log on to the router and have upgraded firmware to 1.0.07. Tried reset button a number of times, makes no difference.When logged in to the router and looking at the Status screen, it shows no IP address, no Subnet Mask, no Default Gateway, no DNS, thus I can't get on the Internet. Connection type is Auto Config - DCHP. It does show the correct domain name as other wireless routers show.

I'm having an intermittent issue with my E4200v2 router. Frequently I will be using a device on the wireless network, and it will be unable to reach the internet. Normally I would assume this was a problem with the cable modem, but disconnecting from and reconnecting to the router often fixes the problem.

I have an wireless issue with my laptop (asus). It connects to my router (linksys WAG120N) but then won't connect to the internet. I have tried everything I can think of, including disabling all antivirus software, removing wireless network and allowing auto reinstall, obtaining DNS servers automatically, etc. I have checked the IP addresses with Linksys support and all indicators suggest that it should connect. My laptop does connect perfectly well when directly connected to the router via ethernet cable. Plus my iMac connects wirelessly to the router. I run XP sp 3 on the laptop.The wireless adapter is an Atheros AR5007EG, driver version 7.6.0.239.

Linksys Wireless router connected but no access to the internet. I do not have a modem in my flat from ISP, only a cable, since the internet is set for every apartment in the building. I have a username and password that I use to connect. There is no problem connecting with the cable. I set up by Belkin wireless router and I'm actually connected to internet wireless but it only works if I also enable the primary ISP connection on my computer so my laptop is connected to internet without a cable. But this weird connection does not allow me to connect my phone to wireless or any other computer. Also the router settings site says not connected to internet and the internet light on Belkin is off.I have a Slovenian ISP -Amis, cable connection and Belkin Wireless modem, Avira Free antivirus.

I recently had to unplug my Linksys WRT54GL wireless router when doing some rearranging and now i'm unable to get a internet connection. I've confirmed the modem is actually working by connecting my laptop directly (which worked), but when I connect the Linksys WRT54GL wireless router to my modem the internet connection goes away. The connection is lost when connected via wireless and hardwired to one of the back ports. I've tried resetting the modem, router and computer and read every forum out there trying to find something, but i'm still stuck.

I have a Linksys wrt54g wireless router.I have my modem connected to it through ethernet. All of the lights on my modem are on, except for the standby light which isn't supposed to be on. My router says it has internet and it says wlan is active. But still no internet. I get local only. I went on my setup page for my router. I went to status and its telling me that my ip address, subnet mask, and default gateway are all 0.0.0.0 All 3 dns spots are blank. I did a dhcp release and renew. Still all 0's. I did factory defaults. Still nothing. I did ipconfig /all on my desktop and its listing my dns, my default gateway, my dhcp server, my ipv4 address and my dns suffix.
