Linksys Wireless Router :: No Internet Access Using WRT54G

Dec 29, 2011

wrt54g wireless router so we could get Netflix through our Wii. I have a one year old Compaq and am running Windows 7 with a wireless Internet connection through my service provider. I installed the router with no problems and was able to get online with the Wii. However, I am no longer able to get Internet access on my desktop. It shows that my Internet is connected, but it shows "No Network Access".  I had gotten on fine at first, then I went to the 192.168.1.1 site to configure my data.  I changed my time zone and then went to secure my connection.  I cannot remember the exact option I chose, but I think it was something like WAP2 Personal. As soon as I selected that the screen froze and I can no longer access that site or get online through the router.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G V5 Cannot Access Internet

Jul 4, 2011

I just got a Linksys router from a moving neighbor.  The router is a Linksys WRT54G v5. She didn't have the power adaptor, so I found one that is 12VDC 500mA and it works.  The factory resetted the device.  I always get a signal, but it has that little error sign on it.  It says my internet connection is broken.  I believe this is caused by a bad ethernet port, but I have gotten into the internet sometimes. I have another router but it doesn't work either. On the other router I get a signal that as no error sign and says "Internet Access" but I still cannot access the internet.  My laptop's network card works.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G Can't Access A Particular Range Of Internet

Aug 3, 2012

We have a WRT54G (hardware v6) which we have used for a couple years in conjunction with a cable modem to make a home wifi network. In the past few days, we've been unable to access any sites in the IP range 130.160.x.x (that is, those at The University of Alabama). A particular example is ua.edu (130.160.4.131). The rest of the internet works fine.This is on Ubuntu 12.04, Windows 7, or Android ICS; with Chrome, Firefox, IE9, or SSH. If I connect the modem to an Ubuntu laptop directly by USB, I can get to ua.edu just fine.

I tried resetting the router to factory defaults, upgrading the firmware, connecting via ethernet rather than wifi, and using the Google DNS servers 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 in the router, but the problem persists. Naturally, UA's helpdesk, Comcast, and Linksys were all either useless or uncooperative. [code]

Linksys Wireless Router :: Internet Access From DSL Modem But Not From WRT54G

Dec 25, 2011

I am trying to get wireless internet set up again and have run into a big issue.  Previous wireless router was also a WRT54G and she had problems.  I gave her my old one that I was no longer using, but it was still working with no problems.

The problem that I am having is that we are unable to get internet through the wireless router.  We are able to get the desktop connected to the internet when we plug it directly into the DSL modem, but when we plug the wireless modem into the DSL modem and the desktop into the wireless modem, then we don't get any internet connection at all.

I had her do a factory reset on modem so that we were starting fresh.  I have also tried unplugging both modems and then pluggin in the DSL and then Wireless modem, with no change.  We have the ability to get into wireless settings page, but I'm not sure what in there to change that would make any difference on this one.

I know that this problem isn't actually a wireless problem, but it has to be related to the modem.  We haven't even been able to get to the wireless part of the set up and we are already running into problems.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G Only Local Connection No Internet Access

I added a screen shut to see the Router setting. If more needed I will add more.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G - Internet Access / Computers Cannot Ping Google

Nov 17, 2012

I have a WRT54G that has worked fine for years, with some PCs hooked up with Ethernet and various other devices connected wirelessly. I came home this afternoon and nothing going through the router could connect to the internet. I've made no changes to anything recently.

I did troubleshooting with Comcast, and we determined that when their modem was hooked up directly to my computer then that computer could connect to the net. Problem solved as far as they are concerned--my router is busted. But I can still connect to the router, and enter its admin screen, and everything looks fine there. The computers on the router can all see each other. So the router is working.

Once I hooked it back up to the modem my computers all lost their internet, but the router does get an IP successfully from Comcast. And it even assigns IPs to my computers that are hooked up to it. It's just that for some reason they still cannot get past the router.I used the ping function in the router admin site and the router pinged Google no problem. My PCs can ping the router without difficulty. But the computers cannot ping Google.

I've tried every combination of power cycles and reboots you can name. I've tried duplicating the MAC address of the PC that connected to the internet onto my router. None of it has made any difference.

Linksys WRT54G - Router Connected But No Internet Access?

Dec 27, 2011

So, I restarted my linksys router (WRT54G model) yesterday because of some issues I was having. Right now, I have full bars for connectivity on all my devices (Acer Aspire laptop running Windows 7 starter) when the Ethernet cord is connected from the modem to the router, but I have no internet access. Only when my laptop is connected directly to the modem, I have access to the internet (but ofcourse no wireless).

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G V8.2 Cannot Access Setup

Apr 13, 2012

I had my router settings in a file on my hard drive so I would not lose them. Just my luck, my hard drive took a giant dump and the restore did not restore 100% and guess which file was among the missing?So I've followed about 15 different "reset" instructions which includes holding the reset button for 10-60 seconds; unplugging the router afterwards for anywhere from immediate to 60 seconds. Obviously, none of those sets of "sage" advice had any influence whatsoever on my router. My "server" is of my own creation:

Core2 Quad Q9550;
8 GB PC28500;
Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R;
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit SP1.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Use Wrt54g As Access Point?

I can connect the wrt54g via a homeplug (cannot run a LAN cable). Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G - Possible To Get 2 Access Points

Apr 4, 2012

I have a E4200 as well as a WRT54G. I'm looking to create two different access points to the same network, one access point being 802.11g (WRT54G) and the other being 802.11n (E4200) I want to do this because I need the extra speed from 802.11n for streaming video to my consoles. The problem is that there are multiple devices that only reach up to 802.11g. Would it be possible to plug the WRT54G into the E4200 in order to give a second access point (probably with different SSID) so that 802.11g devices can connect to the network, without having to destroy my 802.11n network? The WRT54G is currently running DD-WRT.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G - Remote Access (VPN And RDP)

Nov 29, 2011

I'm using a Linksys WRT54G in my home and I have it set up to allow me to connect remotely (VPN and RDP) from work. I do this every day and it works perfectly. The problem I'm having, though, is that every morning it doesn't work until my wife wakes up her laptop. After that it works fine, whether her laptop is on or off. It behaves as if the router is "asleep," and when she generates some local network activity, it wakes up, thus allowing me remote access.

I believe it's a router issue and not a computer issue because not only does it affect VPN and RDP, but even the router's remote management interface is unavailable until this happens.

Some more details about my home setup. I have a fixed IP address assigned to me by my ISP . All computers connect to the router wireless VPN and RDP is routed to a desktop computer running XP SP3 that is always on (it never goes to sleep or hibernates)The router is enabled as a DHCP server (192.168.0.2 thru 11)The desktop computer is set up with a fixed IP address (192.168.0.100)The router is set up to forward VPN and RDP traffic to the desktop . Here's some screenshots that may be useful.

Basic Setup  Port Range Forward Management

Pretty much every other setting is defaulted. Like I said at the start, my setup works perfectly and I'm very happy with it. I just can't figure out why every morning it doesn't work until my wife uses her laptop?

When I'm at work, hers is the only computer on the local network getting assigned an IP by the router. Until she turns on her laptop, the DHCP client list is empty. Could it be that the router needs at least one connected device assigned an IP by its DHCP service in order for it to receive external connections?

I have connected it between my modem and PC, and I am able to get an internet connection on the PC, but I am unable to connect to the router's configuration page. I have tried resetting the router numerous times (holding the reset button 5 seconds, 10 seconds, even longer) to reset the IP address to the default 192.168.1.1 address, but still cannot access the page. The power LED is on and the WLAN and Internet LEDs are on, and the LED for the port my PC is connected to is on. The hardware version of the router is v3. I tried downloading the latest firmware, but without being anble to communicate with the router at the IP address I cannot update the firmware. How can I go about connectiong to the router's setup page? When using ipconfig, the Default Gateway appears to still point to my ISP's IP address instead of the router's.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G - How To Access Setup Page

Apr 27, 2012

When I had DSL, my WRT54G was my DHCP master for my home network.  When I got AT&T U-Verse, their "gateway" became the DHCP master and also the wireless access point.  But the signal was not strong enough where I wanted to use it, so I hooked up the WRT54G again.  I discovered that if I connected the U-Verse gateway to the "Internet" port on the WRT54G Linksys, then my home network was split in two, which I did not want.  The WRT54G access point is physically somewhat distant from my wired computer, so I wanted to keep the U-Verse gateway as the DHCP master. (The U-Verse gateway is a router with four "computer" ports but no "Internet" port.)

I followed instructions on the Linksys web site, and using my wi-fi connected computer I re-programmed the WRT54G to be "Disabled" as a DHCP server.  Then I powered down and physically connected the U-Verse gateway to a "Computer" port on the WRT54G.  This solved my problem:  my distant wi-fi computer now has a good signal, and both computers "see" each other.

However, now I seem to have lost access to the WRT54G setup "web page."  Is it possible to access the innards of the WRT54G when its DHCP service is disabled?  Or would I have to reset the device to factory configuration and start all over if I wanted to make any tweaks?

Linksys Wireless Router :: Wrt54g Can't Get To Internet

Jul 8, 2011

My 'network' looks like this:

CABLE MODEM ===> WRT54G
WRT54G Port1 ===> PC

PC is running Windows/XP sp3 with all updates installed. It has no wireless adapter.WRT54G model number sticker shows ver.2. I don't think the firmware has ever been upgraded.This used to work. What has changed? The laptop that used to connect wireless is dead. I now have a 2nd PC that sits on the same table as the old PC. It has no wireless adapter at this point, but eventually either it, or the old computer, will be getting its internet connection wireless-ly, as the computers will be physically in separate rooms. I can't see how these changes would affect the operation of the router.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54g Can't Get Devices To Connect To Access Point

Oct 22, 2011

I have a WRT54g with Tomato firmware. I am trying to set up a WAP54g to extend the range but while that access point does show up as a network, nothing can connect to it. I already have the router's MAC address put in the WAP. I think the problem is that I have Tomato on the router and that conflicts with the default firmware on the WAP. Range isn't really the problem, I just need to strengthen the signal in a specific area that it's not getting to because of walls. I can't even switch to previous versions of Tomato anymore. I may have just bricked it.Some facts about my setup-My modem has default settings: PPPoE connection with a DHCP server enabled.-I set the router to use DHCP and put it in "Access Point" mode.

-The WAP is set to repeater mode and it was set to Static IP configuration by default. I simply followed the instructsions here: url....

-There are three different MAC addresses: The WAN, LAN/router, and the Wireless. I put the Wireless MAC address in the access point. Is that correct?

-My desktop is wired directly to the router and it has a static IP outside the router DHCP's IP range-UPnP is enabled by default in the modem and router, but I'd like to try to get this working rather than buy all new equipment.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G In Access Point Mode Impossible

Jul 18, 2011

I have a network with 2 WRT54Gs in it. One in the besement connects to my cable modem and serves as a gateway and DHCP server as well as a wireless access point. That WRT54G is perfectly accessible. I have another in my room set up as a router and access point only, connected by its ethernet port to the gateway. This one proves a bit trickier. Thet network works flawlessly, and if I couldn't see it sitting right there I would doubt it even existed. I can't ping it (I forgot the IP but tried all the ones that seemed logical), it doesn't show up in my network map, etc. From what I gather that's how a switch is supposed to work. But since this is also a managed router, I would think there should still be some way to connect to it to administer it. How can I log in to this router to change settings if I need to?

I'm not sure if maybe 192.168.2.0 is the other router or if that's some kind of special address (My network is on the 192.168.2.* subnet, don't even ask why...). I've seen it in other posts about routing tables but they all had it routing to 0.0.0.0 instead of the router's own IP. I tried pinging 192.168.2.255 and got no responses at all, not from any computers or from either of the routers, so that was not useful. Tracert from my computer to the gateway doesn't show the router (my computer connects to the gateway through the router).

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G Cannot Connect To Internet

Sep 22, 2011

Router: WRT54G
Network: 802.11g (and I'm using WEP)
Wifi Adapter: Intel R Centrino R Ultimate-n 6300 AGN
No. of devices connected to wireless network: 5

My problem is that whenever 2 devices have joined the wireless network, I will not be able to do so despite placing the laptop or iPhone right next to the router, hence getting excellent signal strength. Or, if I am already connected to the network, I get knocked out repeatedly. I don't think it is a hardware or software issue because I'm still able to connect and get a very stable connection after someone leaves the wireless network.This is getting frustrating and I have tried all ways and means to resolve this but to no avail. Is this about some setting that I can tweak, e.g. to allow more users onto the network? But this has already been configured to '50'!
