I'm unable to access my linksys wireless g broadband router (WRT54G)'s access gateway. (192.168.1.1)The gateway page doesn't load, at all. It doesn't ask for the user or password at all. On any of my internet browsers (firefox, and internet explorer)Anyway of fixing this would be appropriate.

We recently upgraded from a Linksys WRT54G router to a Cisco RV042 to gain "gateway-to-gateway" automated VPN access. However, we are unable to get "client to gateway" access working.
With the Linksys WRT54G we used a "username" "password" pair for remote client authenication. This worked for both Windows and Mac OS X users using the built-in PPTP client. We found we had to set "encryption" value to "none" on the client side.
I am confused by the setup screens on the RV042. It looks like I must setup a "tunnel" (VPN->Client to Gateway), there is (VPN->VPN Client Access) where I can enter a username/password, and also (VPN->PPTP Server) where another username/password pair can be entered. I have tried all sorts of combinations but "no love". I am particularly mystified by the (VPN->Client to Gateway) settings for "Remote Client Setup"; the client can be calling in from anywhere and there is an option for "Dynamic IP + Email Address" but I'm not sure how that maps onto the client (do they use the email address as their account name?). I have also looked at defining a "Group VPN" where I am given other options. But nothing works from the client.
I just need to come up with some setup that works, that I can document to both PC and Mac users at a miniumum.
We were hit by hurricane Sandy a couple weeks ago and lost power for a week and a half. Now that our cable has been restored I noticed that the wireless internet wasn't working. The wired internet works fine to this computer but no Wi-fi.I think the problem is the routers default gateway. It's supposed to be 192.168.1.1 but right now it's 24.191.112.1 .So far I have tried:
-Powercycling everything
-ipconfig/ flush DNS
-ipconfig/ release and ipconfig/renew
-Checking all the wires are pugged in fine (They are).
I have a WRT54G router that's worked for a very long time. I had WEP security set up and it worked fine until recently. About a week ago my three year old son managed to reset the router (I'm still not sure how). When I go onto the web-based setup page I am unable to change the wireless security setting. I select an option from the drop down menu but then the page reloads and nothing has changed.

The steps that I went about resetting the router were pushing the reset button for 30 seconds. That did not work so I pushed the reset button for 30 seconds, unplugged the router while continuing to hold the reset button for 30 seconds, plugged the router back in while holding the reset for 30 seconds.

Everything was working fine with the wireless network until one random day POOF! the wireless no longer would connect on laptops. However, the internet is working just fine with the computer that is hardwired up throught the router. Since this is working it lets me know that the router is working fine and routing the connection through hardwire. Hard wired works on laptops but all laptops are unable to join the network and most of the time it will not show up in the list of available networks.Even my iphone wont connect saying unable to join network. We bought a brand new linksys router and same problem. I then took his old router to my house and hooked it up...and WOW it works as it should all devices can connect...even my iphone.

It too has no connection. I open my laptop to connect to the wireless, IT WORKS! Pull power on Cable Modem and Router, wait 60 secs, power up Cable Modem and then power up Router (I know it wasn't nec to do modem but I wanted a clean start). Wireless is still working, no LAN. I can't even connect 192.168.1.1. Linksys software says it can't detect the modem. Reset time, hit the magic button in the back and sure enough everything stops working (which I figured). Still can't connect to it, and now I've lost wireless. I connect computer directly to Cable Modem and type this message. Seems to me that Router has failed.

It worked before I moved after I moved I can't connect via wireless. hard line works. i've tried resting to factor, i've tried not using ses, not using custom ssid. I've rest it like 5 times retarted the computers. I've hit the little cisco systems button on the front, this makes it work for a few minutes. When I hit the button it will go out then come back on white, and blink around 1-2 blinks per second, it will do this for maybe 1-2min. then stops and changes back to orange. and i get nothing from it. the WLAN light is on like it's working but I cannot detect it with my desktop or laptop, can i can detect 3 other routers around me. I've tried pretty much everything i know to do, tried flashing it, updating, about the only option i have left is throwing it out the window.

I can log in (most of the time) after resetting the router, but whenever I try to click on a different tab (like "Wireless", or "Security") it comes up with the page saying "This Page Cannot Be Displayed." I'd like to be able to put a password on it (which I have successfully done before on this router) because I live in a college dorm and would like to keep my internet from being bogged down by other people using it.

I followed the basic instructions that came with the router and towards the end of the process it says detecting network settings with a % bar. The bar fills to 100% and then asks for a password. My home network uses high speed cable with two computers on the wireless network, all working with no problems.The router is on the second floor but the two computers and the new BD390 are on the first floor - about 35 feet away. I have the wirelss security set to none and use only the specific computer MAC addresses to allow connection to this network.
I found directions in the forum for a setup using the LG BD390 but with a different Linksys router. I changed the security to WPA (AES); the Beacon interval from 100 to 75; the Fragmentation Threshold from 2346 to 2304; and the RTS Threshold from 2347 to 2307. The DVD wireless connection still failed to find my network. There is a "Push button" connection feature on the BD390 setup which I tried, but the only "button" on the router I could find was in the basic wireless setting, a green icon for the wireless SSID setup. No connection was made there either.
The recommendation connection from the LG manual is for a network cable, but that would be over 50 feet and a real pain to connect, so I would prefer WiFi.
I had my router settings in a file on my hard drive so I would not lose them. Just my luck, my hard drive took a giant dump and the restore did not restore 100% and guess which file was among the missing?So I've followed about 15 different "reset" instructions which includes holding the reset button for 10-60 seconds; unplugging the router afterwards for anywhere from immediate to 60 seconds. Obviously, none of those sets of "sage" advice had any influence whatsoever on my router. My "server" is of my own creation:

My own sites were down & I can't view them on my computer now.This is the 2nd time this has happened to me with router WRT54G.Every time there's a problem with my hosting company & my sites go down, my router blocks them once the sites are back up & running.When I plug directly into the modem I can access them, but then I can't use my phone, etc.I've recycled & I keep trying to find how you save your settings on your router so I can do a cold reboot, but I can't find the instructions anywhere.Why does it keep doing this & how to save the settings & restore them.

I'm looking to create two different access points to the same network, one access point being 802.11g (WRT54G) and the other being 802.11n (E4200) I want to do this because I need the extra speed from 802.11n for streaming video to my consoles. The problem is that there are multiple devices that only reach up to 802.11g. Would it be possible to plug the WRT54G into the E4200 in order to give a second access point (probably with different SSID) so that 802.11g devices can connect to the network, without having to destroy my 802.11n network? The WRT54G is currently running DD-WRT.

I have a one year old Compaq and am running Windows 7 with a wireless Internet connection through my service provider. I installed the router with no problems and was able to get online with the Wii. However, I am no longer able to get Internet access on my desktop. It shows that my Internet is connected, but it shows "No Network Access". I had gotten on fine at first, then I went to the 192.168.1.1 site to configure my data. I changed my time zone and then went to secure my connection. I cannot remember the exact option I chose, but I think it was something like WAP2 Personal. As soon as I selected that the screen froze and I can no longer access that site or get online through the router.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just got a Linksys router from a moving neighbor. The router is a Linksys WRT54G v5. She didn't have the power adaptor, so I found one that is 12VDC 500mA and it works. The factory resetted the device. I always get a signal, but it has that little error sign on it. It says my internet connection is broken. I believe this is caused by a bad ethernet port, but I have gotten into the internet sometimes. I have another router but it doesn't work either. On the other router I get a signal that as no error sign and says "Internet Access" but I still cannot access the internet. My laptop's network card works.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using a Linksys WRT54G in my home and I have it set up to allow me to connect remotely (VPN and RDP) from work. I do this every day and it works perfectly. The problem I'm having, though, is that every morning it doesn't work until my wife wakes up her laptop. After that it works fine, whether her laptop is on or off. It behaves as if the router is "asleep," and when she generates some local network activity, it wakes up, thus allowing me remote access.
I believe it's a router issue and not a computer issue because not only does it affect VPN and RDP, but even the router's remote management interface is unavailable until this happens.
Some more details about my home setup. I have a fixed IP address assigned to me by my ISP . All computers connect to the router wireless VPN and RDP is routed to a desktop computer running XP SP3 that is always on (it never goes to sleep or hibernates)The router is enabled as a DHCP server (192.168.0.2 thru 11)The desktop computer is set up with a fixed IP address (192.168.0.100)The router is set up to forward VPN and RDP traffic to the desktop . Pretty much every other setting is defaulted. Like I said at the start, my setup works perfectly and I'm very happy with it. I just can't figure out why every morning it doesn't work until my wife uses her laptop?
When I'm at work, hers is the only computer on the local network getting assigned an IP by the router. Until she turns on her laptop, the DHCP client list is empty. Could it be that the router needs at least one connected device assigned an IP by its DHCP service in order for it to receive external connections?
I am using a WRT310N. I have a Cisco ASA5505 as my firewall and don't need the routing capabilities of the WRT310N. So I just plug the LAN port on the WRT310N directly to my LAN switch. I just need the WRT310N to have an IP address for management. So I configure the LAN with an IP address, but there is no way to set the default gateway on the LAN. You can only set the default gateway on the WAN interface, which I don't use, since I am using this in an AP only type of configuration.
