Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G Version 2 Weird Default Gateway
Nov 21, 2012
We were hit by hurricane Sandy a couple weeks ago and lost power for a week and a half. Now that our cable has been restored I noticed that the wireless internet wasn't working. The wired internet works fine to this computer but no Wi-fi.I think the problem is the routers default gateway. It's supposed to be 192.168.1.1 but right now it's 24.191.112.1 .So far I have tried:
-Powercycling everything
-ipconfig/ flush DNS
-ipconfig/ release and ipconfig/renew
-Checking all the wires are pugged in fine (They are).

I have a WRT54GX2 router and my laptop is connected wirelessly to the router. It worked fine before but now, the connection is only local, it's not connected to the internet. On the router, it says: Default Gateway: 0.0.0.0.I think that it should say 192.168.1.1 instead.I tried dhcp release and renew but it didn't work. The firmware version is 1.01.22.

I am currently using an E900 wireless router. The router is on the second story so I have to use a wireless router booster to enhance the signal strength. I have been using the booster for well over a month with no issues whatsoever; however, tonight I attempt to get onto World of Warcraft and I keep getting disconnected every 5 minutes. After I run the diagnostic it fixes the problem and says that the "default gateway not available". I tried restarting the router, restarting the booster, unplugging the wireless adapter, checked the firewall, and also restarted my computer.

How can I change default gateway and DNS's for L2TP type of connection? I've tried to specify them in static IP address first and then switched to L2TP as adviced in one forum, but it didn't work. I don't understand why such settings as Gateway and DNS servers cann't be specified as for PPTP connection. Firmware is 2.0.37.

I cannot connect to the internet via the wireless network from my router. Currently, I can connect to the wireless network, however I cannot access the internet, but I am able to access the internet with an Ethernet cable in the same router. This is a fairly recent development as we have used this router for wireless internet access (our modem has a wireless network built into it, but it is unreliable) for upwards of 8 months now without problem. One day it simple restored itself to the default name and we were no longer able to access the internet through the wireless portion.

I have a WRT54G router Ver. 5 with firmware v. 1.02.5. This is the second time this has happened to me but the router reset itself to the factory defaults. I lost all my configurations.  I'm saving the configuration this time but it will be annoying to keep having to reconfigure the router.

I have a Linxsys WRT54G. Â Once every week or two, it seems to "forget" its name, and revert to the default name. Â When I try to access it with my laptop or phone, "Multivac" is gone, and "Linxsys_XXXXXXX" (where XXXX are random numbers and letters) has taken its place. Â When I go to the setup at 192.168.1.1, the "Router Name" on the first "Basic Setup" page is still "Multivac," but the "Network Name" on the second "Wireless" page has reverted to the default. Â If I change it back to Multivac, everything is fine for a week or three until it "forgets" again.

I'd like to add a WRT54g2 to my LAN. I'd like it to communicate with my existing LAN router, and not to talk directly to the LAN. Therefore, in Basic Setup, I don't have the top part (Internet Setup) configured. Is that a mistake? But, it seems that when I enable DHCP, it hands out its own IP as gateway, and then doesn't seem to send the traffic on upstream. When I configure clients manually with the real router IP, they work fine.
Â
So, I'd like, I guess, Linksys to forward traffic on a static route to real router. How do I do this? Adding a route to real router yields the error, "maybe default route already exists."

I am using a WRT310N. Â I have a Cisco ASA5505 as my firewall and don't need the routing capabilities of the WRT310N. Â So I just plug the LAN port on the WRT310N directly to my LAN switch. Â I just need the WRT310N to have an IP address for management. Â So I configure the LAN with an IP address, but there is no way to set the default gateway on the LAN. Â You can only set the default gateway on the WAN interface, which I don't use, since I am using this in an AP only type of configuration.

I have my E1200 connected to my Netgear FVS318 router (which is a wired router) and the Netgear is connected to the internet. When a wireless client attempts to connect to the internet after automatically receiving an IP from the E1200, they do not have internet access as the default gateway that gets assigned is the IP of the E1200 192.168.2.100, which is not correct. It should be assigned 192.168.2.1, which is the IP of the Netgear router. Thefore, I have to manually set their IP addresses to use 192.168.2.1. How do you configure the E1200 to assign the correct Default Gateway IP to wireless clients who want to use DHCP?

I 've tried to reboot the router using the 30/30 method that is suggested by Linksys, but I still can not access the routers GUI.

I am directly plugged into the router on my computer, and it is used wireless for the rest of the computers in the house. Â Frequently (3-4 times a day usually, sometimes more like every 20 mins, other days not at all), the router and Network Magic will tell me my computer has lost internet connection, and browsers and any program I try to start won't be able to connect to the internet. Â However, I know the connection is still live because any program that was running and accessing the internet beforehand (multi player games and instant messaging programs, for example) still run fine with their connection and I can continue to play or chat online until I close that program. Â
Â
Trying the 'Repair Connection' on network magic doesn't work, but unplugging and replugging the power cable to the router fixes the issue(again, so I know it's the router and not the internet)whatever reason the router is deciding to tell me it's not active and refuse access to the internet for new programs when existing connections don't show any problems.

I just got an e4200 refurbed router, and it's been working great except for one problem I'm having. I have Comcast cable with Ubee D3.0 modem. For some reason, there will be a random 4-8 second delay when going to certain websites. While this normally wouldn't be a problem, it occurs quite frequently with Google.com and we definitely can't have that. I've updated to latest firmware. Ran ping test to find optimal MTU, went with 1500. To be sure it isn't a DNS issue, tried accessing Google by IP addy and getting the same delay. The delay seems to occasionally occur with Facebook as well, at one point I couldn't even get to Facebook and had to release/renew ipconfig. I have Mac address cloned if that makes a difference.

I'm having trouble connecting my PS3 to the internet. I'm too far away from my wifi router and can't get a good signal strength. I do have an ethernet cable from my pc, but apparently it only works in my pc and not on my PS3. It keeps saying: no ethernet cable connected. I've searched fora, but apparently this can be caused by a lot of things, and I dont really find a solution :s. The problem is, it has worked before, and now it doesn't. Also, ethernet on my ps3 works perfectly at my buddy's house.
I have a linksys wrt54g version 7. I installed the router myself, but if my wired connection to my pc works, and the wireless connection works for the laptop, there shouldn't be any problem I guess?Perhaps, could the laptop -which is on the router's wifi and which is halfway in between my router and my PS3 in distance- act as a wifi amplifier to my PS3? That way, the ps3 could pick up the signal from the laptop, instead of all the way from the router?

We recently upgraded from a Linksys WRT54G router to a Cisco RV042 to gain "gateway-to-gateway" automated VPN access. However, we are unable to get "client to gateway" access working.
Â
With the Linksys WRT54G we used a "username" "password" pair for remote client authenication. This worked for both Windows and Mac OS X users using the built-in PPTP client. We found we had to set "encryption" value to "none" on the client side.
Â
I am confused by the setup screens on the RV042. It looks like I must setup a "tunnel" (VPN->Client to Gateway), there is (VPN->VPN Client Access) where I can enter a username/password, and also (VPN->PPTP Server) where another username/password pair can be entered. I have tried all sorts of combinations but "no love". I am particularly mystified by the (VPN->Client to Gateway) settings for "Remote Client Setup"; the client can be calling in from anywhere and there is an option for "Dynamic IP + Email Address" but I'm not sure how that maps onto the client (do they use the email address as their account name?). I have also looked at defining a "Group VPN" where I am given other options. But nothing works from the client.
Â
I just need to come up with some setup that works, that I can document to both PC and Mac users at a miniumum.

I just purchased a Buffalo WZR-600DHP router and have been having a weird issue. When using the router on the shipped DD-WRT firmware I consistently get "The default gateway is not available" error and I have to reset my wireless adapter on my laptop. This issue doesn't occur on my hardwired desktop or interestingly enough when the Buffalo router was switched to the "user-friendly" firmware the issue didn't occur either. Both times the router was on the DD-WRT firmware I've had the default gateway issue.

hrome threw me a DNS lookup failed. I go into my network settings and I noticed that I had limited connectivity. It would switch between no network access and no internet access every few seconds. After a bit of fiddling around, I got it to connect through assigning myself a static IP. This isn't exactly convenient because I use this computer on multiple networks. When I try to have it on automatic IP, I get no IP address or default gateway when I do an ipconfig /all. It would appear that my router quit assigning my laptop an IP for no reason whatsoever. DHCP is enabled on the router, and all other devices work fine. What could possibly be the problem here? I'm 99% sure it's not an IP conflict either. It's not being MAC filtered because I'm on the thing right now posting this through a static IP. It's not my A/V because it's worked great in the past. Perhaps I should also mention it occasionally says "unidentified network" instead of the SSID

I have a central office and two branch offices, these offices are connected by a private routing service that has no connection to the Internet, the telecommunications operator in each office installs a router with a LAN and a WAN IP and configuration of these devices cannot be changed except the LAN IP. Only the central office network that is 192.168.0.0 have a router that has internet access. Remote offices have no access to the internet, what is needed is that remote offices can access the internet using ADSL router 192.168.0.254 at the central office. There are a small devices in each remote office that must connect to the internet and do not support any configuration except IP, mask and gateway, for example you cannot add a static route. Currently the pc's at remote offices has IP communication with the server from the central office using a static route. put some VPN routers between each LAN and the operator's routers (where RT yellow star appears in the diagram) and put the hosts of the two branch offices same IP range that the central office network? I had thought to use RSV400 routers?

Does ip default-gateway have any effect on a L3 device such as a 2811 router? I always thought that on a L3 device the default route would supersede any such command assuming it is accepted.

We have a client device that cannot be reached for managment directly and wanted to add that statment only if it might work.

I have a 2511 TS linked into my CCNP lab and configured it with default gateway pointing to my ADSL router. The TS has a staic local IP in my LAN also I have port forwarding set up on my ADSL router to direct all Telnet (not cofigured for ssh yet)Â sessions to the TS.
Â
The TS is linked to the ADSL router via the transceiver module ( CentreCom AT-210TS) which feeds the ADSL router with ethernet connection.I have tried to access the TS from a remote location but with no joy, fortunately I also have it consoled to my PC so I SSH to the PC and then run my terminal emulator from there. Using SSH to the PC and then minicom to the TS when doe this way (Remote Location>Ubuntu>minicom>TS) I can see the ethernet interface has no MAC address when i do a sh internet eth 0 mac is set to 0000.0000.0000.
Â
I don't want to be connecting via ssh to PC before accessing the TS but instead just want to connect to the TS; for the life of me I still can't explain what's going on.

I am pretty clueless with anything beyond creating a simple home wireless network. But I work at a 10 room inn which is surrounded by a few properties that are also part of the inn. We need to adequately cover a diameter of about 400ft in all directions from the inn with wireless internet. Even at 400 ft the signal should be reliable and able to Skype and stream videos. The path from the Inn to each of the surrounding properties is clear. For those with experience setting up a wireless network with 400ft diameter, what equipment would you recommend?
Our network now consists of several WRT54G routers. The access points use the default antennas and we have a couple directional antennas to reach a couple of the nearby houses. We need the signal to reach another house or two now. Rather than installing more directional antennas, the owner of the inn wants to wants to just purchase new equipment for the Inn to easily reach all of the surrounding houses which house innkeepers or guests.

So network was running fine for about a year or so. Network consists of 1 Motorola SB6120 cable modem attached to a D-Link DIR-601 wireless router. All settings were default except for SSID and WPA password. One day I just couldn't access internet anymore. I've narrowed it down to the default gateway that is being given out through DHCP. The default gateway that is being given out is the IP of the modem (192.168.100.1) and not of the Router (192.168.0.1). I can't find any option on Wireless router to be able to force the gateway address when handing out the gateway IP. Theoretically I thought I should be able to put router on same subnet as modem as 192.168.100.2 but that still doesn't work. If I set the IP adresses statically on the PCs and give it the Gateway of the Router everything works fine. I should mention this is for my boss' house and basically I dont want him calling me everytime he has a friend come over and I have to talk em through setting up a Static IP.
And just for an example this is what I get if I use DHCP:
IP Address: 192.168.0.155
Mask: 255.255.255.0
DNS: 192.168.0.1
Default Gateway: 192.168.100.1
And If I want it to work I have to change the default gateway to 192.168.0.1 I've tried updating routers firmware and reset to factory default numerous times. Is it possible for a router DHCP stop working?
