Cisco WAN :: Does IP Default-gateway Have Any Effect On L3 Device Such As 2811 Router

May 21, 2013

Does ip default-gateway have any effect on a L3 device such as a 2811 router? I always thought that on a L3 device the default route would supersede any such command assuming it is accepted.

We have a client device that cannot be reached for managment directly and wanted to add that statment only if it might work.

Cisco Wireless :: 2811 - Can't Ping Default Gateway

Jun 9, 2012

I'm trying to get a 2811 router with a NM-AIR-WLC6 Wireless Controller Module to work with an c1200 series access point. The LWAP is connected to a 2690 switch which has a trunk connected to the router. My configuration looks very similar to example 2 on this page: [URL] . The LWAP does get an IP from the DHCP pool on the router. I can also connect to the GUI of the controller from a PC on VLAN 250 (which also is connected to the switch).

[URL]

The moment I join my Wireless network I get no IP and when I enter a valid static IP, I still can't ping the gateway. I also noticed that the controller could ping the gateway before I configured the interface. After configuring an interface with that gateway, the controller loses the ability to ping to it. I can't seem to figure out why. I've been working all week on getting this controller and LWAP to broadcast a fully working network.

Default Gateway Is Not Available With Buffalo WZR-600DHP Router

Feb 22, 2013

I just purchased a Buffalo WZR-600DHP router and have been having a weird issue. When using the router on the shipped DD-WRT firmware I consistently get "The default gateway is not available" error and I have to reset my wireless adapter on my laptop. This issue doesn't occur on my hardwired desktop or interestingly enough when the Buffalo router was switched to the "user-friendly" firmware the issue didn't occur either. Both times the router was on the DD-WRT firmware I've had the default gateway issue.

Cisco WAN :: 2511 Default Gateway Pointing To ADSL Router

Aug 1, 2011

I have a 2511 TS linked into my CCNP lab and configured it with default gateway pointing to my ADSL router. The TS has a staic local IP in my LAN also I have port forwarding set up on my ADSL router to direct all Telnet (not cofigured for ssh yet)  sessions to the TS.

The TS is linked to the ADSL router via the transceiver module ( CentreCom AT-210TS) which feeds the ADSL router with ethernet connection.I have tried to access the TS from a remote location but with no joy, fortunately I also have it consoled to my PC so I SSH to the PC and then run my terminal emulator from there.  Using SSH to the PC and then minicom to the TS when doe this way (Remote Location>Ubuntu>minicom>TS) I can see the ethernet interface has no MAC address when i do  a sh internet eth 0 mac is set to 0000.0000.0000.

I don't want to be connecting via ssh to PC before accessing the TS but instead just want to connect to the TS; for the life of me I still can't explain what's going on.

Wifi Router Not Assigning Ip Address Or Default Gateway?

Oct 25, 2012

hrome threw me a DNS lookup failed. I go into my network settings and I noticed that I had limited connectivity. It would switch between no network access and no internet access every few seconds. After a bit of fiddling around, I got it to connect through assigning myself a static IP. This isn't exactly convenient because I use this computer on multiple networks. When I try to have it on automatic IP, I get no IP address or default gateway when I do an ipconfig /all. It would appear that my router quit assigning my laptop an IP for no reason whatsoever. DHCP is enabled on the router, and all other devices work fine. What could possibly be the problem here? I'm 99% sure it's not an IP conflict either. It's not being MAC filtered because I'm on the thing right now posting this through a static IP. It's not my A/V because it's worked great in the past. Perhaps I should also mention it occasionally says "unidentified network" instead of the SSID

RSV400 Router / Using Default Gateway On A Vpn Remote Side?

Oct 17, 2011

I have a central office and two branch offices, these offices are connected by a private routing service that has no connection to the Internet, the telecommunications operator in each office installs a router with a LAN and a WAN IP and configuration of these devices cannot be changed except the LAN IP. Only the central office network that is 192.168.0.0 have a router that has internet access. Remote offices have no access to the internet, what is needed is that remote offices can access the internet using ADSL router 192.168.0.254 at the central office. There are a small devices in each remote office that must connect to the internet and do not support any configuration except IP, mask and gateway, for example you cannot add a static route. Currently the pc's at remote offices has IP communication with the server from the central office using a static route. put some VPN routers between each LAN and the operator's routers (where RT yellow star appears in the diagram) and put the hosts of the two branch offices same IP range that the central office network? I had thought to use RSV400 routers?

I have been using the booster for well over a month with no issues whatsoever; however, tonight I attempt to get onto World of Warcraft and I keep getting disconnected every 5 minutes. After I run the diagnostic it fixes the problem and says that the "default gateway not available". Cisco Switching/Routing :: Default Gateway Of VOICE Providers 2600 Router

May 21, 2012

We have two MPLS circuits managed by two different suppliers, one carries VOICE the other DATAWe are to decommision the VOICE MPLS and have increased the bandwith of the DATA MPLS to carry VoIP traffic too.

At both of our sites A & B ,devices connected to the LAN have a default gateway of the VOICE providers Cisco 2600 router , which then goes into the LAN switching. (see diagram)So what I am trying to achieve is toto simply replace these 2600 routers from the VOICE MPLS provider with our own so we dont have to change the default gateways at both sites.
Testing

Our Cisco 2600 routes are plugged into each LAN switching environment with two subinterfaces configured, one for voip and the other for dataThe problem is from the router and respective subinterfaces we can get to the other sites destination without any issue, but if for example a user is at site A with Ip address 10.16.11.12/16 they cant ping the VOIP subnet at site B 10.3.11.0/24. But If a ping is issue from the Site A test router then the 10.3.11.0/24 subnet is reachable but only on the 10.3.12.0/24 configured subinterface. So i guess what Im saying is 10.16.0.0/16 from the LAN needs to be able to get to 10.3.11.0/24Note at site A 10.16.0.0/16 & 10.3.12.0/24 can communicate no problem and at site B 10.207.0.0/16 & 10.3.11.0/24 can communicate no problem. We are using IP routing, should we be using route-maps?

Modem And Router (D-Link DIR-601) DHCP Giving Out Wrong Default Gateway

Nov 6, 2012

So network was running fine for about a year or so. Network consists of 1 Motorola SB6120 cable modem attached to a D-Link DIR-601 wireless router. All settings were default except for SSID and WPA password. One day I just couldn't access internet anymore. I've narrowed it down to the default gateway that is being given out through DHCP. The default gateway that is being given out is the IP of the modem (192.168.100.1) and not of the Router (192.168.0.1). I can't find any option on Wireless router to be able to force the gateway address when handing out the gateway IP. Theoretically I thought I should be able to put router on same subnet as modem as 192.168.100.2 but that still doesn't work. If I set the IP adresses statically on the PCs and give it the Gateway of the Router everything works fine. I should mention this is for my boss' house and basically I dont want him calling me everytime he has a friend come over and I have to talk em through setting up a Static IP.

And just for an example this is what I get if I use DHCP:

IP Address: 192.168.0.155
Mask: 255.255.255.0
DNS: 192.168.0.1
Default Gateway: 192.168.100.1

And If I want it to work I have to change the default gateway to 192.168.0.1 I've tried updating routers firmware and reset to factory default numerous times. Is it possible for a router DHCP stop working?

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54g2 Handing Out Wrong Default Gateway

Jan 19, 2012

I'd like to add a WRT54g2 to my LAN. I'd like it to communicate with my existing LAN router, and not to talk directly to the LAN. Therefore, in Basic Setup, I don't have the top part (Internet Setup) configured. Is that a mistake? But, it seems that when I enable DHCP, it hands out its own IP as gateway, and then doesn't seem to send the traffic on upstream. When I configure clients manually with the real router IP, they work fine.

So, I'd like, I guess, Linksys to forward traffic on a static route to real router. How do I do this? Adding a route to real router yields the error, "maybe default route already exists."

I am trying to get rid of 2 old 2651xm's and 2 2950's from my CCNA days and want to get into the ASA realm. Can I be able to use the ASA, not only as a security appliance / firewall, but also be able to write the access lists, etc, to be able to use this as my router to push packets to and from my internal LAN to the outside world? I guess I should have stated as this being the front end device to my network, just after my DSL Cable modem, that is..and being the only device. I am trying to have this as my main router /firewall solution and then I have an old Linksys router I will pipe off one of the L2 ports to have an AP for my wireless devices? Is this a real solution an ASA can provide?

Cisco WAN :: Can't Use ASA5505 As Default Gateway For LAN

Mar 16, 2011

We have a network consisting of a central site and a few remote offices. The sites are all connected via MPLS and also have VPNs over ADSL / internet connections as a backup. The remote offices have Cisco 837 routers for the ADSL connections which we can manage but the MPLS routers are managed by the service provider providing the MPLS connections. At the central site we have a Cisco 891 for the the MPLS connection (which we manage) and a Cisco ASA5505 for the backup VPNs.

In order to implement failover from MPLS to VPN in the event of any MPLS line going down I have tried to use ip sla monitors and tracked objects on the 891 as per Cisco's documentation. The problem that I am finding is that I can't set the number of ICMP echo failures required before the tracked route is dropped. Whenever the ip sla monitor fails to get a response the tracked route is dropped immediately. This is too sensitive as packets are occasionally dropped which results in the routes bouncing back and forth between MPLS and VPN too frequently (disconnecting users in the process).

I have tried different threshold types and values, tried configuring ip sla monitor reaction-triggers (although I don't understand what little documentation that I can find on this) and have even looked at event manager. I have been working on this for a few weeks now and am getting nowhere.

The Cisco ASA5505's implementation of ip sla monitor is much better in that it is possible to specify the number of packets but unfortunately we can't use the ASA as the default gateway for the LAN as the asymmetrical routing that occurs does not work with the firewall function of the ASA.

Any issue with ip sla monitor on IOS and managed to get it working?
