Linksys Wireless Router :: Optimal Configuration For Cisco E3000?

Jan 9, 2012

Following are the details of my current home network setup, I would like to hear more recommendations and drawbacks of this setup.ISP has provided with a Cisco  DPC3825 DOCSIS 3.0 Gateway which has 4 Ethernet ports and a wireless networking but only 2.4 GHz.. This router is connected to the cable CPE box to internet. I have enabled the Firewall features of this router and disabled the Wireless network. This has also the DHCP server running. The Second router is a Cisco E3000 which supports 2.4 GHz / GHz wireless networking. Connection to gateway is made via the 1st Ethernet port of gateway and then to the Internet port of E3000 router. I have connected my wireless devices to E3000 with GHz wifi lan. This router also has the firewall activated and DHCP server running as well. Both routers have WEP2 Personal / AES security configured. Currently these two devices are on two different IP ranges ..etc gateway is 192.168.0.1 and e3000 is 192.168.1.1.The E3000 is primarily configured for my online video for TV (Panasonic Vireacast).

Linksys Wireless Router :: How To Tell If E4200 Running At Optimal Configuration

Jan 11, 2012

Just picked up the E4200 and used Cisco Connect to install.  Wanted to know a few things?

-Windows 7, 64 bit
-E4200 router
-AE2500 adapter

1)  How can I tell if its running at optimal configuration?

2)  Before with my previous router (netgear) I didn't see my router in Device Manager.  Now its under Network Infrastructure Devices.  It lists the name of my router, under that it lists Microsoft Wireless Router Module??

3)  Before with my previous adapter (belkin) I would see my Network Adapter in Device Manager.  I see my network adapter listed, under that Realtek PCI (LAN), but now there is another new device?  Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniadapter??

Why are these Microsoft devices showing in Device Manager?  Did they not get installed correctly?

Optimal Location And Possible Router For 2 Floor Town House

Nov 6, 2011

I currently have two laptops, a PS3, one desktop (technically two, but right now its not working, hoping to make it wired, but we will see), a smart phone and an Ipod touch. The first few are used the most though. I have the router currently downstairs in the kitchen in the corner (I know terrible place) unfortunately it was the only place beside the room upstairs, which tbh I don't know why we didn't do, which is still towards an end to the house. The middle most part of the house would be in between the kitchen and the dinning room on the first floor, although it doesn't have a great place for the coax jack to be installed. The other room would be mine upstairs. So the question is; is the router better off upstairs or down stairs. Also the router is a Linksys WRT54GS so its only G sadly. I'd like the best signal strength as possible spending the least amount of money as possible. Sadly I game (PS3,Laptop,Desktop) which also would make it awesome to have some of these wired, but theirs no great location to get the best of both worlds. If I had to choose it would be my desktop to be wired which is why my room for the router would be nice if its a good place for the signal.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E3000 No Address From ISP On WAN?

Apr 2, 2012

I have an e3000 that cannot obtain an address from the ISP.  I can get an address on the computer and an old router by directly connecting the cable to the computer or the router.  I can also daisy-chain the e3000 to the old router, and I can get an address on the e3000 from the old router.  I have hard reset the e3000, changed firmware from the Linksys to TomatoUSB and back to Linksys, and I still can't get it to work.  It worked fine on Saturday until a bolt of lightning hit close to the house.  Since then, I cannot get the e3000 to connect to the ISP.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E3000 Gets Slow After A While

I'm talking dog slow.  And it's not just the internet, I have a media server connected to it, and usually when I put something on it, the transfer rate is about 3.5MB/s (not bits, bytes).  But everything is slow, I top out at speed of maybe 1/6 normal on the internet as well.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E3000 Cannot Keep Signal

Aug 21, 2011

We have  a wireless internet service. Not satellite. We basically have an antenna on our house that picks up the signal from a tower a mile or two away. I used the e3000 router when we lived in town with broadband internet and it worked fine. I can't get it to keep a hold of a signal. I can connect to the router from the computers but the router drops the signal from the tower. I have an old router that the wireless company was kind enough to lend me that works  , but the signal is weak and it could die at any moment... I"m at my wits end.. I have an expensive piece of equipment that wont hold the signal. I have updated the firmware and the Cisco connect software..

Linksys Wireless Router :: Testing QoS On New E3000

Apr 19, 2010

Has anyone tested QoS on the new E3000? Whenever I add an application (e.g. Voice Device) and set priority to Medium or High, my upstream bandwidth for everything else is immediately cut significantly, even when I'm not using the priority application.

For example, with QoS disabled, I can consistently get 10Mb upstream (speedtest.comcast.net).  As soon as I enable QoS, upstream is capped to exactly 2Mb! On my old router, there was an option to set the total upstream bandwidth -- but on the E3000 there is no such option that I can find.

Aug 25, 2011

Looking at upgrading my router to an e3000 however I've got a couple of questions. I might come across as a bit thick with this one but I have read that you need a modem to make the router work, I can't get my head around this as I've not come across this before. I always thought the router was the modem!! I've also heard that the E3000 only works with cable ISP and not ADSL, is that true?

Linksys E3000 Wireless-N Router Slow Speed?

Feb 25, 2011

I have FiOS and their supplied wireless router Actiontec #MI424WR. I have home theater equipment that uses the newer N signal so I purchased a Linksys E3000 Wireless-N Router. I have one of the LAN outputs on the Actiontec feeding the Linksys input and Wi-Fi turned off on the Actiontec. This is working good for my wireless home theater equipment but I am having problems with my wired speed. It has gone from averaging anywhere from 20 to 30 mbps on numerous test sites when plugged into the Actiontec to averaging around 10 mbps when plugged into the Linksys.

1) Is my wireless N speed going to top out at 10mbps or less since that is all the router is showing on wired? Shouldnt N be broadcasting a faster speed if given the ability?

2) I have my computer currently plugged directly into the Linksys verses the Actiontec. This makes it easier to program the Linksys router. Since I am no longer using the wireless part of the Actiontec there really is no need to be plugged into it. Is there anything I can do get the speed higher on the Linksys, a setting I can change? Will I have to plug the computer back into the Actiontec to get the higher speed and then move it every time I may need to make a change to the Linksys?

Linksys Wireless Router :: Finding Password On E3000?

Nov 5, 2011

A retailer (Best Buy's Geek Squad) made adjustments to my Linksys E3000 router when I bought a Sony Media Player from them a number of months ago. It was the first wireless device integrated into my wired LAN network (three computers).

In attempting to set up a GUEST connection, I pulled up Cisco Connect which I originally used to set up my network. The BB Geek didn't use a key and followed a different procedure unknown to me.

As I face the Cisco Connect screen now, it tells me "Can't access your router settings. The router password has been changed." Then in the "Router password" block, it gives the original password I assigned.

I had written another name I thought was associated with the changes made by the BB Geek so I copied the password there now, inserted the new PW, and clicked Next. I was then asked if I wanted to proceed with the change ... but the change it was proposing was the exact PW I just copied. Confused, I cancelled the operation.

Network mode: Mixed
Channel Width: Auto (20Mhz or 40Mhz)
Channels: Auto DFS

I have the E3000 in the middle basement (same location at 300N) and i barely get a signal 1 floor above and 25 feet away.  In fact, I get no signal in my kitchen.
