View 2 RepliesI am at my wits end with cisco and linksys. I have had three different linksys routers over the years.I have a WRT160N, and now I think I made the mistake of buying cisco's latest product E3000. I thought by now their Upnp would be worked out for 180 dollars. But sadly no even their most expensive latest product doesn't do what I want. All I want is to hook up two xbox 360s and have open NAT which is what NAT is supposed to do. Still the NAT does not open up for both systems simultaneously which is absurd. I have a sb6120 for a modem. Both xboxes are hardwired to the router. Upnp should be enabled as this is part of the router. Also its job should be able to handle the two xboxes properly with one ip address that is its sole purpose.
I've tried one in dmz the other with static ip with forwarded ports that equals one open one strict.I've tried upnp enabled alone that equals one open one moderate.I've tried everything else the plan and simple fact is that it should work with upnp on and the nat in the e3000 will take care of the allocation of renaming ports to the single external ip address. By definition.
I am having a NAT issue with my two xboxes. The router is an e1000 v2.1 firmware 2.1.02. One xbox is wired into the router and the other has a wireless adapter. The wireless xbox gets open nat automatically, while the wired one's nat is strict. If i mess with DMZ and turn UPnP off i can get the wired to be open but the wireless one to be strict. Also port forwarding does not seem to work because only one or the other xboxes will get an open NAT. I do have the the correct ports in the port triggering section set to on but that does not seem like it works.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter struggling with the setup of my new EA6500, I finally succeed in setting it up. Like other people in this forum, the setup process got interrupted approx., 90% in the setup process. After several factory resets and new setups, I finally was able to login locally to fulfill the setup and upgrade the firmware to 1.1.28.146072). After that, I do have wireless access, but the connection to my LAN connected NAS (Synology), is really really slow. Furthermore, when I try to use airplay to connect to my Airport express it drops out and starts blinking yellow? Finally, from time to time when I log in, I get the "No router found" message (can't remember the exact text). After a reboot I'm able to login. To me it seems that the firmware/router still is filled with a lots of bugs. I think I will downgrade to my old E4200, during the next couple of days, and return the EA6500.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am looking at buying the EA6500 router. However, before I make the investment into buying this router, I need to know some basic information first.
1. I want to setup the EA6500 to accept FTP requests to my Windows Home Server. Yes or No?
2. Remote access to the EA6500, Yes or No? i am aware of the security risks
3. I need to setup Port forwarding on the EA6500. I assume I can?
4. Manage a Kindle Fire and other wireless devices?
I have 2 xbox 360's I'm trying to connect to my E3000 wirelessly. I've tried several different things, but I always end up with moderate/strict NAT on one or both xboxes. I tried going back to default settings, and got open NAT for both xboxes and very low bandwidth speeds for both, which caused a lot of online playing issues.I never had an issue with the bandwidth speed before until I reset to factory defaults. What is the best way to connect 2 xboxes at the same time without NAT and bandwidth issues?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was having problems with the speed being between 30-58 kpbs when going through the WRT160N router, whether its hooked up wired or wireless, the speed with both was extremely slow and wouldnt fully open pager or would take dsl day slow. I hooked up straight to modem and I got 100+ kpbs so I figured its not my ISP, so I read that upgrading my firmware might make it faster, so I upgraded and hit and held the reset button for 30 secs like it recommended but now the 192.168.1.1 wont open, I get a message saying it cant open this page
View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently lost the setup for my newly installed ea6500 for no apparent reason. had to restart from the ground.I have the latest upgrade but wonder about the differences between the linksys coonect to the online version vs stand along versions. DO nor like expensive software that losses its setup for no good reason.I also irritated that I am unable to access my cable box. I own it and cable box and lynkiys has no right to block me from it. 192.168.100.1. I was able to accessed it with my Belkin router and I should be able to access with this expensive ea6500 box!!
We NEED a non-gui version. The gui is great for simple networks and people who do not want to know anything about their network. it's ment to be use to deliver additional services to us at a cost. duplicated or generates random users with ip or mac addresses complicating the parental control.
Problem (1)I was told that having two (2) gaming systems on the BEFSR81 router will cause both xbox machines to loose connections. My kids demonstrated this lockup with the Xbox. I think its because the Xbox connection is seeing 1 IP address for both game machines. Question is there a way to fix this without getting two DSL modems with two different IP addresses ?
Problem (1)My router BEFSR81 locks up at least once every 3 days and then randomly also. We reset it is by unplugging the power to the router and it reboots and returns to normal. I also notice that the router is quite hot on the top, so I put a small quiet fan on top and the router now works longer before it locks up. (All green lights flash together or all on solid). So I thought gaming machines might be the reason for the lockup, we disconnected the xbox(s) and the router still locks up on occasion. I have read the other forum and found that Amazon could be a problem since I have been logging, I turned logging off but I still have the same lockup....Is my router dying a slow death...
I have the port numbers but do not know how to proceed from there. Router is a WRT160N V2.

When I open the adviser it goes to setup wizard, I get a screen that tells me to disconnect my old router which I have done. The next screen gives a list of routers to select from my router x2000 is not on the list. How can I get passed this screen? So I can use the adviser to set up other computers and printer.

Is it possible to even get Gigabit dowload speeds via DSL or would I have to go cable to achieve something like that ?My main concern is I don't want to buy a modem that will slow down or 'throttle' the capabilities of the new router I've just purchased or have I got the wrong idea ?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI would like to use the EA6500 in my network - but nor as primary router (or in fact routing at all). I would have thought, one could simply tell the device to use a particular gateway, but it does not seem to be easy. I have used many other home routers as combined switch/AP/USB-drive (latest a D-Link DIR-655), but the EA6500 seems very picky. The "easy" "Smart Wi-Fi" setup requires internet access through the WAN port - and that divides my home network, which then have two zones which cannot really "talk" to each other. Alternatively, I can reset the device and access it directly on the IP (initially 192.168.1.1). But then I can change only LAN and WLAN settings. Stuff like Guest Access, USB-devices etc. won't work. Do anybody have success with this device without using the WAN port and the DHCP server?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a pair EA4500s that I am swapping out for a pair of EA6500s. One EA6500 is a router. The 2nd EA6500 is set as a bridge and us being used as an Access Point about 200ft and two floors above the main EA6500 router. The two units are connected via DECA (200MB Ethernet over DirecTV cable - an alternative for others with a cable provider is called MOCA). So, basically two EA6500s serving as two Access Points on opposite sides of the house and all wireless networks on different channels but all sharing the same SSID. Everything works GREAT except for one unusual issue.
The issue is with wired or wireless clients. If I try to use my PUBLIC address with port number to address a local client on the local network inside the NAT network the NAT redirection fails. In other words if I use 172.16.16.8 for a local web cam while inside my network from an iPhone or PC all works great. If I use the external public address, however, the connection times out. If I pop out the EA6500 doing the routing/NAt and swap it with the old EA4500 with basically the same config as the EA6500 everything works again. The EA6500 and the EA4500 are configured identical for the most part and with the EA4500 as the main router NAT redirection works great but with the EA6500 NAT redirection fails. I have the firewall setting to FILTER NAT REDIRECTION unchecked so that's not the problem.
Seems very odd.... and only seems to happen with the EA6500..... the work around is to use the local IP address when the client is on the inside and the public address when on the outside, but what a pain that is....
Any work around to enable reverse NAT or similar functionality on the EA6500? I recently upgraded from a Dlink that did support reverse NAT to my internal devices through a dynamic dns service. Now I have to know the IP address for all the devices.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi setup my new EA6500 with the ethernet cable from my cable modem plugged into the EA6500, but with my old E4200 still switched on, but disconnected, i seemed to have ended up with a ip address of 10.250.27.47, not the 192.168.1.1 i was expecting, which i had with the E4200, my question is, is 10.250.27.47 something i should expect with the EA6500, or do i need to do a factory reset on the EA6500 and start again with everything else switched off as a precaution ?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI set up EA6500. All kinds of problems with anything on the 2.4 MHz band. My wireless desktop on the 5.0 MHz band was flawless. So I ran Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector (freeware). The router is transmitting two 2.4 MHz signals! One is the SSID I set up and named. The other one is identical in every way except that the BSSID is slightly different. It is a non-broadcasted SSID that shows up on every device as "Other Network." I was on the phone with Cisco Support tonite, and they were great as usual but had no answer. If you change the channel on the 2.4 MHz band, the shadow network also changes to the same channel (this blew the Tech's mind). We reset the router to factory settings and started over. They are calling me back tomorrow. This router has great features on paper, but so far, it has not delivered.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThe only way I could get my EA6500 to work as auto DHCP to my Roadrunner Motorola SBV5220 Surfboard cable modem was to disable IPv6 support on the router. It appears that the EA6500 attempts to issue the DHCP request for address assignment from the modem using IPv6. I could see the status of "Connecting" for IPv6 in the Diagnosis Reports and it would hang. Once I disabled IPv6, the modem assigned an IPv4 address and everything worked fine. However, am I giving up any functionality by having to do this? I bought this router and the WUMC710 Universal Media Connector for the 5GHz connectivity for streaming and just wondered if I'm impacting UMC performance or any other functions of the router by having to disable IPv6.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI currently have my EA6500 behind verizon fios router. I have 5 static IP addresses assigned to FIOS router, however the machines I want to connect to are behing EA6500. It's a dual NAT scenario:
Public IP - FIOS Router - 192.168.1.0/24 network - EA6500 - 192.168.2.0/24 network
What I would like to do is for each public IP address, I would like to forward traffic to a particular host on 192.168.2.0 network. I can easily configure FIOS router for static NAT and assign one internal IP (from 192.168.1.0 range) for each public IP. However, I don't see a way to assign multiple IPs from 192.168.1.0 network to EA6500 internet interface.
I don't want to use EA6500 as a bridge as it will pretty much reduce my EA6500 to a very expensive GigE switch.
Is this possible? Or should I replace it with something more useful like a business router? This is for my home so I would like to avoid buying an expensive business router.
I am interested in running the EA6500 without all the Cloud Connect software etc. Is this possible? Is there a basic way to set this up without that requirement?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just bought the EA6500 last week. Had to RMA it on Monday and got the new one today. The issue still persists. The power light is constantly blinking and my computer is unable to obtain an IP address from it. I contacted tech support and was unable to get the issue resolved so I had it exchanged believing it was defective. The new one does the same thing. When I connect my computer to it, the light on my Ethernet port stays a solid orange instead of green like it does for my usual router. The Cisco light is constantly blinking.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have it set up as Capri (2.4 GHz) and CapriHD (5 GHz). CapriHD was intended only for HD video traffic. My wife's iphone 4S can only use 2.4 GHz, and it suddenly quit connecting after 1-2 months of use. My iphone 5 can use either band and it can only connect on 5 GHz. This problem MIGHT correspond to the recent firmware upgrade? I was traveling a lot around that time so can't be sure that is a culprit.Really thought the problem was the hardware, so I replaced it with a new EA6500 and getting the same result.
