I have a WRT160Nv3 router and I have been getting terrible lag spikes over the last few days, we have 10Mbps cable internet, nothing to fancy but about once every 5-10 minutes it will drop to .4-.5 Mbps for several minutes, When I make a direct connection from modem to my computer i get the full speed I should be getting of about 11Mbps. The lag persists in both direct connections and wireless.
View 1 RepliesI'm suffering from an annoying problem with my E4200 router. I have a DSL connection. I have my DSL modem in bridge mode and I have my router set up to sign into my ISP's PPPoE to avoid double-routing. This set up worked marvelously with my previous WRT54G and WRT610N routers.Now the E4200 signs me out of PPPoE every ten minutes or so. I have the connection setting on "Keep Alive" but it seems to be dropping the connection regularly. I took the router back and was given a replacement. The new router is doing the same exact thing and now I am beyond the 30 day return limit so I'm stuck with the E4200. I'm running the latest firmware 1.0.03
I reinstalled the WRT610N and the connection is steady but the WRT610N has its own problems (devices connected via wireless cannot see wired devices and vice-versa). I'd like my new router to actually work properly. I've ruled out errors on my end and given that two brand new units of the E4200 generated the same problem I tend to believe it is a design error.
I recently replaced my old WRT54G router with a E3200 router.
Unfortunately, ever since my wireless network is a lot more unstable than before. I very often experience serious lag spikes and drops in speed. Very often I experience serious lag for a couple of seconds after which everything returns to normal. I notice this the most in online gaming, but it is also noticeable while browsing the web. When downloading large files (e.g. steam games), the download speed also seems to suffer from this by dropping every now and then.
There are no connection drops however. And it only seems to affect the wireless network.
I have configured the E3200 router manually using the Web UI and is has been configured exactly the same as my WRT54G: i.e. only 2.4GHz band enabled with b/g/n, WPA2 security, MAC filtering on, no throtling/parental control/port forwarding, UPnP disabled. The E3200 is in the exact same place as the the WRT54G was.
Things I have done so far for troubleshooting: I used inSSIDer to monitor the wireless network and it's signal strength seems about the same as the WRT54G. I changed channels for best signal strength (there is only one other wifi network that seems to be configured as a dual channel N network; 3 other networks with very low signal strength) and have tried every channel.
I updated the fimware to the latest version (Ver.1.0.04 (Build 1)) and did a factory reset and power cycle afterwards.
I noticed that switching channels can account for 5-10Mbps differences in internet speed. Something I never noticed with the WRT54G. The lag spikes occur more often on some channels than on others. This seems not related to the speeds I get on the channel.
I really can't imagine that a router marketed as High Peformance router with superior speed and superior range is less stable than my old WRT54G router.
Is there something I can do to improve stability of this router?
I have a Cisco EPC3925 router. From 13 to 23 I am suffer from severe lag spikes, I have been wondering whether this is router's fault or there must be some any other source of interference.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI decided to change my old Belkin router to a Cisco one, and ever since i've got all sort of problems with internet connection.I'm a gamer, and my brother as well, and with the Belkin router we never got any issue, but now when we try to play together online we get serious Ping problems (We usually play at 80ms, but for a couple of seconds it reaches 800ms.. then it goes back to 80 ms).I have a 20 mb Conection with no P2P restriction, I'm using only Wireless-N connection, with only 20 Mhz and in Ch. 9 (2,452 Ghz).I also use a WPA2-Personal password and QoS System to give more priority to my PC and my games (DotA2 and WoW).This problem only happens when we try to play 2 games at the same time (e.g. DotA2 and WoW, or DotA and DotA, etc). Well i actually think Cisco might be better (Well, I payed extra money for "quality") but then again, with all those problems.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have 2 computers hooked up to the router via wire and wife using wireless on her laptop.I'm playing games on internet and soon I noticed I got occasionally ping spikes.. The ping get beyond 1000 - 1500 so the screen is in fact temporary freezed. Sometimes those spikes can occur with 10-15 minutes inbetween them sometimes it can be an hour or more before I notice it.I'm running Windows 7 on both my computers. I first thought it was Microsoft was to throttle the packets so I did the change in the registry. But these spikes still happen. After some testings I also notice they happen at the same time on both computers so my conclusion is that it's something with the router.

I am directly connected to my router. Lately, I have been receiving high latency spikes and total loss of internet. The problem must be related to my router, because when I connect to the internet through my modem I don't have this problem.

I had drivers version 3.0.1.0 installed and upgraded to version 3.0.10.0. After upgrading the problem got so so bad that I can't play online games at all. I tried rolling back drivers to 3.0.1.0 but it won't go back. I already tried reinstalling the drivers a few times and even reinstalled windows.

I have spent approximately 8 hours troubleshooting the other 2 only to be told they're defective. So, I got a new one. Now, this one keeps cutting in and out. I want as my iPhone constantly switches from 3G to wifi on and over every minute. It really ticks me off! What can I do to fix this? This is a different issue than the original one (very slow) and 2nd (no signal). It's disappointing for a $90 router to do this. I also see the wireless icon on the router flash.

When I play games, it lags/disconnects for a second or two then resumes. Plus it also screws up my wireless mouse at times. I changed my wireless adapter back to my old high gain G adapter and everything seems fine.

The newer equipment is capable of supporting WPA2, the older is not. I would like the benefits of WPA2, but still would like to at times be able to use the older equipment.My solution was to use a WRT160N v2 router that I had as an access point and it also gives me switch capabilities for wired systems as the FIOS router in on a different floor than the Linksys router. Wired access works just fine and the wireless worked fine until just recently.Since both routers have the same default IP addresses I changed the Linksys to a different static IP and turned off DHCP. I left all of the other defaults the same. I set up the Linksys for WEP and created the key for security. Everything worked fine for the better part of a year, but recently I am having problems where some of the computers cannot find the network or find it then lose connection.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a WRT 160N v2 router. There's 1 computer wired to it, that works fine. Then I have 2 laptops and a pc wireless to it. One laptop is a mac and that seems to be fine, another is a Compaq notebook that has trouble connecting and the pc has the same problem. The signal strength is very good to excellent so thats not the issue. What happens with the pc is, it will connect but at times its only for a few seconds then it disconnects. Sometimes restarting the computer fixes it for a while but it will eventually start having the problem again. It detects the wireless network just fine, and the router's firmware is up to date. I have a feeling that its the settings in the router but im not sure what to change.

But when I try to connect the laptops to the computer, they say there's a problem with the certificate. Both detect the connection, and with strong enough signal strength. I've tried WPA and WEP encryption methods, and disabling encryption methods. All had no change. I believe the problem lies with this Wi-Fi Protected Setup stuff, which I have no clue as to what the hell it's supposed to do. I've tried disabling it by turning it to manual, which all computers then lose internet connection entirely. Browsing the FAQ's, I havn't found a solution. I've been working on this thing for a solid 7 and a half hours straight, and phone support is trying to make me configure static IPs, which proved extremely inconvenient in the past.
