My Linksys WRT160N wireless router stopped working all of the sudden. When I connect to the internet wirelessly my laptops say I have full signal but "No Internet Access." None of the 4 wired ports on the back of the WRT160N router give me wired internet. The only way I can get internet is to connect the wire to my internet modem

The past 4 days however, when I try to connect wirelessly I get connections that are repeatedly dropped. I am in the Settings section of my iPad 2 and it keeps rapidly switching between "connected" and "not connected". Firmware is up to date.

I usually only have an old Toshiba Satelite on the network, which runs G IIRC.I had the network setup as open without a password (I don't really have any neighbors nearbye) however when a new computer tries to get on my network, I usually have to hit the 'sync' or w/e button on the router for the computer to get on. I'm happy with that setup, and it seems to have been working fine.

View 3 Replies View Relatedspecs: linksys router wrt160n v3, verizon modem gt701c, windows xp service pack 3, verizon DSL, southern california.I have been able to connect to the internet directly through the modem only...but i need my wireless back working. I've reset my router a few times recently trying things i've read on forums from people with similar problems. The most recent thing i did was RESET the router -> connected modem/router/computer properly -> turned them all back on in the proper order -> check to see if websites would open. They didn't so i tried doing this, which was suggested...i plugged the router into the computer and enabled MAC address and then pressed the Clone MAC address button and saved....then I tturned everything off again and rebooted everything again in the proper order and still couldn't load any web pages. Here are my IPCONFIG/ALL read outs for both when i'm hooked up with the router & modem (which isnt working) and directly to the modem (which is working) this is the one with the router & modem:

My modem and wireless were working fine for years...and then recently without me doing anything my modem kept dropping connection and the internet and dsl lights kept flashing and then going back solid....so i'd be connected for a few minutes and then they'd start flashing again over and over all the time. I finally called verizon and then had me fiddle around with stuff...followed all their directions...but ended up only being able to connect while directly connected to the modem. Even then, the modem was still losing connection and getting it back. (i was supposed to schedule a house call for a tech to check it out, never did) Over a couple weeks the connection ended up getting better on its own, so now it pretty much never drops out anymore. (almost) i've reset my modem, i've reset my router....i just still cant seem to get websites working with my modem and wireless router connected.
I recently changed the security mode on my router from WEP to WPA2 Personal. However, since that change, I've noticed that the wireless devices, 2-laptops, are intermittently loosing their connections. . I don't know if it has anything to do with the security mode change, but I don't want to go back to WEP for obvious reasons.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've recently purchased a WRT160N router, and I'm using it in conjunction with a WMP54G wireless PCI card. I've set the router up to my requirements, and can get a stable wireless connection.. but internet speed seems excessively slow. While I'm able to get up to around 4MB/s transferring files over the network, running speed tests, it consecutively shows my download speed to sit around 400KB/s, whereas I'm able to get a steady 1.1MB/s on another desktop that is wired. Disabling the LAN adapter on that computer, and connecting via wireless, brings down the speed that that computer is able to get to around 400KB/s as well. Hence, I don't think it's my wireless cards, but something to do with the router itself.I'm also experiencing lag spike issues in online games, which I can only attribute to the current wireless setup, because I've previously had no issues with it. All relevant ports are forwarded, so that is not an issue.After doing some Googling on the subject, someone had suggested running SpeedGuide's TCP Optimizer, and changing the RWIN - I ran it, and set it to the 'optimal' settings, and after a reboot the wireless seemed fine - I was getting just a tad under what I should (about 950KB/s).. but after a short while, it just went back to 400KB/s. After further investigation, it seems that Vista automatically changes that RWIN value to optimize network traffic.. but I never had this issue with my old wireless gear, so I can only assume that the way Vista is reacting is based on the way the router is interacting with it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI had an old MS DSL1000 that was upgraded by Qwest to an Actiontec GT701 (not wireless) modem. If the GT701 is plugged directly into the PC, the internet works fine. If it is connected from the ethernet port into the WRT160N router, the LAN works but not the internet, even though the internet light is a solid green on the GT701. I've read about port forwarding and DMZ, but still not positive if I should do one or the other, much less on how to go about setting either of them up correctly.

I have tried mac address clone that was suggested on this forum for someone with a different router but still no internet to my computer, its all hooked up through Ethernet cables, the computer I have it hooked up with a hard line is running windows seven. When I plug the modem straight to the computer it works and I have internet but when I hook up the router between them it has no internet.

I accidentally connected to computer fix it firm that linked to my PC and wanted a large sum to fix the problem which he said was due to large number of temp?? internet files and once removed he would change the IP address of the desktop computer? Is this diagnosis logical and can I do it on my own. The router is definetely working - both laptops access the internet and I was recently able to hook up a Samsung Blu-Ray player using the same security code I used for the I-Phone.

I connected the Router to the modem, and all the wired connected PCs were working perfectly.But then, i went to the setup page to configure the Wireless settings, and as soon I changed the SSID name, the connection internet connection droppedThe only way i had to fix this was by making a Hard Reset.after that, I also tryed changing values and settings from all the configuration tabs, and the wired connection was working properly, but as soon i changed any value from the Wireless tab, the internet connection dropped (even, in the diagnostics section, i could not do a ping to google. It says unknown host).
I own the linksys wrt160n v2...It has latest firmware 2.03 build 9...After installing this firmware i have noticed the internet speeds have reduced,the router requires frequent reboots to make it stable..

I have an E2000 (2 yrs old) that is not connecting to the internet.It is a slave to a BEFSR81 which controls the DNS.I am able to connect to other computers on my home network, so I know the wirelss is working and the cables are all good. I know that I can plug my laptop into the port on the hard wire router that the wireless was plugged into and I can get internet. So the only thing I can think of is the inernet is being blocked at the E2000.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy WRT54GL Linksys modem has me stumped, it will not connect no matter what I try. it worked fine until just recently after a power outage; everything seems to be working perfectly fine hardware wise; the router shows a solid power led and network activity on WLAN, Ethernet, and Internet. I've tried soft resets and factory reset, clearing my caches, releasing/renewing IPCONFIG.
The peculiar part is that it is not letting me access the web config at 192.168.1.1 while connected with the modem, however if I plug the router directly to my PC's ethernet port I can access the config; Itried updating the firmware this way but it didn't solve the problem. I have no more ideas.

I am running the most recent firmware 1.1.28 released on Jan 2nd(ish) 2013 and if I try and access or configure my external Segate Freeagent 1.5 GB it essentially crashes my router whereby I cannot reach the internet nor the Admin console. I have to power cycle to be able to connect?

I did some research and tried releasing and renewing IP amongst restarting all networking devices AND PC's. The odd thing is when I first hooked up up it seemed to work fine than a day later it just stopped. All other computers are fine and if I try to connect to another network it works fine. View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed Tomato firmware (details below) on my wireless-N router and everything appears to be working fine on the router's end. I can connect to the Internet properly with a wired (Ethernet) connection; in fact, that's how I posted this question.
What I cannot do is connect to the router wirelessly in any way. At first, I thought that something was wrong with my wireless security settings, because I read about some incompatibilities between Windows 7 and AES encryption. However, when I changed to TKIP, the issue persisted; when I switched from WPA2 Personal to WEP, the issue persisted; and when I disabled wireless security entirely — just for testing purposes — the issue still persisted.
My Internet search for this issue brought up a lot of old forum and mailing list posts, most of which were useless. The only one that seemed promising suggested disabling Afterburner, but that came disabled by default on my install. I did try enabling it and then disabling it, but it had no apparent effect.
In case it's relevant: before I installed Tomato, I had a somewhat funky install of dd-wrt on the router. The first thing I did after installing Tomato was a full clean of the nvram through the web GUI's Administration → Configuration → Restore Default Configuration menu.
What do I have to do to get wireless running? I only have one computer available at the moment, but I'll try to update later if and when I can borrow more devices for testing.

EDIT:This is a computer issue, not a router issue. Two smartphones with wi-fi connections and another computer are all able to connect to the wireless network with no problems. However, the original computer was able to connect to the same router just fine before Tomato was installed. It has an internal wireless-B/G card, and I had Tomato set up to broadcast G-only, so it should have been compatible.
EDIT 2:The computer in question was the only device in the house that wasn't set up for wireless-N, so I went out and bought a Wireless-N USB adapter and changed Tomato to be N-only. Using the new adapter, I get connection again. I suppose it's possible that the computer's OEM internal wireless card failed at exactly the same time that I installed Tomato on the router, but that would be one heck of a coincidence. I'll see if I can connect to some other G or B network next time I'm around one....
Well, I have a WRT120N Router for 11 months to now. I never had a problem with the Router, but since 2 days ago, It didnt connect to the internet.
My network is: Internet > Cable Modem > WRT120N > Computers
As I said, the problem is that the Router doesnt has Internet Connection.
Things to take in consideration: The Cable MODEM ISN'T the problem Because if i connect the modem directly to a computer, I have Internet connection without problems.I Diconnected and Connected both Modem and Router in several ways and several times, and it doesnt work.I also tryed clonning my PCs MAC address to the Router and it was the same.The Router Indeed receives the External IP Address from the Modem, and also, it changes if i restart the modem (as my ISP IP is DHCP). But there is NO internet conection.The Router had the 1.0.05 Firmware, and i upgraded to 1.0.06, and the problem persists. Another thing to take in account is that if I turn off my modem and the I turn it On, sometimes, the router receives Internet connection, but in matter of Seconds (minutes as much), the internet connection falls.
This is NOT an ISP problem, because as I said, if I connect the Modem Directly to any PC, i have a perfectly normal Internet Connection, And also, I called my ISP and they Said me that there werent any problem on their network.
I have also tryed with the "Router Dianostics" (the Ping and Traceroute options that are in the Router's Webend and also, no conection. So its NOT a Cables problem.
I am trying to assist my sister with her BEFW11S4 Wireless Router. It has been working fine until this week! The Firmwre is version 1.50. The main router is not connecting to the internet, yet the 2 wireless adapters for their other 2 computers are! It shows that the main one has a connection but when you bring up any Internet Browser it says it can't find the connection. We've checked the settings and they are all correct. We even turned the firewall off and that didn't work!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was attempting to use my EA4200 in bridge mode but found out for some reason my devices weren't connecting to the internet. So I decided to try to access the router through the IP address of the router with no avail. So I pull the router and plug it in normally and notice that it keeps flashing. So that already gives me an idea something is wrong. I go through the process of unplugging everything from the router, and plugging my PC directly into the LAN port 1 of the router then powering it up. On my network connection list it keeps trying to identify the network but keeps failing (keep in mind that the router still is flashing). So I decide to attempt a 10 second reset, then a 30 second, then a 30-30-30. All with no success. The router keeps flashing.
Which gets me to the point where I am now... router flashing at me, and wondering if this now out of warrenty unit was a waste of money. I am noticing that a lot of people have had questions and issues with the E4200v2 which now concerns me, well hopefully this can be fixed.
My xp computers recently gave up. So, I bought a new one (windows 7).
When I had my new computer plugged directly into my modem, there was no problem; I could easily connect to the internet.Yet, when I plugged the modem into my router (WRT54GS) and then plugged the router into the computer, I repeatedly encountered: Error 651.
The new computer has a built-in wireless adapter. So, I was able to disconnect the router and try to re-connect via a wireless connection. Yet, dispite being able to connect to my "network", the computer was not able to connect to the internet; again, I received the dreaded Error 651 message.I tried using the installation disk, but it would not work, either.
I have that connections and i cant change because is a bussiness network, modem (floor 0) > switch (floor 0) > rack switch (floor 0) > network port (floor 1) > router wireless In others floor they have this config with wireless internet working, but in mine no.

I have spent approximately 8 hours troubleshooting the other 2 only to be told they're defective. So, I got a new one. Now, this one keeps cutting in and out. I want as my iPhone constantly switches from 3G to wifi on and over every minute. It really ticks me off! What can I do to fix this? This is a different issue than the original one (very slow) and 2nd (no signal). It's disappointing for a $90 router to do this. I also see the wireless icon on the router flash.
