I am running the most recent firmware 1.1.28 released on Jan 2nd(ish) 2013 and if I try and access or configure my external Segate Freeagent 1.5 GB it essentially crashes my router whereby I cannot reach the internet nor the Admin console. I have to power cycle to be able to connect?
View 9 RepliesI recently bought the ea6500 router to upgrade from my last one. For the first few weeks, it worked ok though the wireless range often became unreliable if doors were shut. The biggest problem I'm having right now is that the internet has completely stopped working - both wired and wireless. I have hooked my laptop directly into my modem, and it has a good internet connection. However, when I plug my laptop into the router, I get no internet connection at all, and it is not currently producing a Wi-Fi signal at all. Instead, the power light keeps blinking rapidly. I have tried rebooting the modem and router several times and still no internet. Just the same blinking light. I can't even log into the smart wifi page to check the status of the router. My computer tells me there is no IP address for the router.

I can't connect to the internet with it.To start with, I have a cable modem that is connected directly to my desktop to verify I have a good internet connection. I do (can browse the web). Then, I disconnected the cable from my desktop and plugged it into the "internet" port on the EA6500. With a new cable, connected one end to the desktop and the other end to Port 1 on the router. Now I no longer have an internet connection.Went throught varioius sequences of rebooting the computer / router / cable modem with no change.
Then disconnected the cable that was pugged into "internet" on the router and plugged it back into the desktop -- internet service restored. So, I have a good connection to the web.
When I had the router in the config, I was able to go to IP 192.168.1.1 and see the routers setup screens, so the connection between the computer and the router was good.I also was able to try the wireless on the router by connecting my iPhone. Iphone connected to the router (joined the network), but couldn't get to the internet.
It's as if the internet connection withing the router is broken.I even did a reset of the router which didn't work. Using this new router via hard wires should work out of the box with no setup necessary.
I did also try running the install software to see if it made a difference. Setup detected no internet, but I selected to continue on without the internet connection. Software guided me to setting up my wireless network (choose SSID, etc) and that completed. Was able to connect with my iPhone to the newley found SSID, but still no internet.
I've a problem with the internet speed of my ADSL line(20Mega). Now I've the following components: D-link DSL-320 B (modem)+Cisco Linksys EA6500. If I start a Speed test the result its only 4M in download, while i remove the router and i connect my Pc directly to modem, the speed test results its 13-14M.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have verizon fios business line with 5 static IP addresses and am configured for ethernet wan. I can use EA6500 as the router instead of using Verizon's own router, however I can't figure out how to assign all 5 static IP addresses on internet interface. I have already assigned first IP to internet interface but don't see a way to add more IPs either in internet interface or from NAT section where I can create static NAT.
Is this even possible with EA6500? If so, how?
I recently buyed a Linksys EA6500 wireless router. I accessed [URL] to access the settings interface of the router. Went to "Connectivity Internet Settings" and chose type of the internet connection as PPPoE. Entered the username and password, clicked ok.
No internet access.
I connected EA6500 internet port to actiontec router provided by Verizon fios. I don't have any other way to connect as FIOS connection is coax to actiontec modem. I must take a drop from actiontec to internet port on EA6500.
With that said, I can't get EA6500 to work, it keeps saying no internet. The only way I can get it to work is when I set it to bridge mode. This makes my EA6500 a dumb switch/access point. I didn't spend $200 for a switch. I need to use advanced features offered by this router but I can't until this problem is fixed. I made sure I am running latest version of firmware (1.1.28.146856).
I have reset my fios router as well as ea6500 to factory defaults multiple times.
how do I block IP/Internet Adresses for ALL users without adding the sites manually per user in the Parental Control panel? I want to block a certain IP/internet adress for all users but can't find this feature within my EA6500 anywhere?Is this a firmware bug? Has linskys forgotten that some sites want to blocked for all users and how do I do it all in one?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an E2000 (2 yrs old) that is not connecting to the internet.It is a slave to a BEFSR81 which controls the DNS.I am able to connect to other computers on my home network, so I know the wirelss is working and the cables are all good. I know that I can plug my laptop into the port on the hard wire router that the wireless was plugged into and I can get internet. So the only thing I can think of is the inernet is being blocked at the E2000.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy WRT54GL Linksys modem has me stumped, it will not connect no matter what I try. it worked fine until just recently after a power outage; everything seems to be working perfectly fine hardware wise; the router shows a solid power led and network activity on WLAN, Ethernet, and Internet. I've tried soft resets and factory reset, clearing my caches, releasing/renewing IPCONFIG.
The peculiar part is that it is not letting me access the web config at 192.168.1.1 while connected with the modem, however if I plug the router directly to my PC's ethernet port I can access the config; Itried updating the firmware this way but it didn't solve the problem. I have no more ideas.

The odd thing is when I first hooked up up it seemed to work fine than a day later it just stopped. All other computers are fine and if I try to connect to another network it works fine. Just when I try my home network it has issues.

I have a Linksys voip box coming off it for my phones. I installed the disk that came with the router, followed the directions, and got a message that Internet could not be found. Went to the live chat and followed some advice that did not work, conflict with voip? bypassed the voip and ran a cable from the wireless modem to my E3000.

As I said, the problem is that the Router doesnt has Internet Connection.
Things to take in consideration: The Cable MODEM ISN'T the problem Because if i connect the modem directly to a computer, I have Internet connection without problems.I Diconnected and Connected both Modem and Router in several ways and several times, and it doesnt work.I also tryed clonning my PCs MAC address to the Router and it was the same.The Router Indeed receives the External IP Address from the Modem, and also, it changes if i restart the modem (as my ISP IP is DHCP). But there is NO internet conection.The Router had the 1.0.05 Firmware, and i upgraded to 1.0.06, and the problem persists. Another thing to take in account is that if I turn off my modem and the I turn it On, sometimes, the router receives Internet connection, but in matter of Seconds (minutes as much), the internet connection falls.
This is NOT an ISP problem, because as I said, if I connect the Modem Directly to any PC, i have a perfectly normal Internet Connection, And also, I called my ISP and they Said me that there werent any problem on their network.
I have also tryed with the "Router Dianostics" (the Ping and Traceroute options that are in the Router's Webend and also, no conection. So its NOT a Cables problem.
I am trying to assist my sister with her BEFW11S4 Wireless Router. It has been working fine until this week! The Firmwre is version 1.50. The main router is not connecting to the internet, yet the 2 wireless adapters for their other 2 computers are! It shows that the main one has a connection but when you bring up any Internet Browser it says it can't find the connection. We've checked the settings and they are all correct. We even turned the firewall off and that didn't work!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was attempting to use my EA4200 in bridge mode but found out for some reason my devices weren't connecting to the internet. So I decided to try to access the router through the IP address of the router with no avail. So I pull the router and plug it in normally and notice that it keeps flashing. So that already gives me an idea something is wrong. I go through the process of unplugging everything from the router, and plugging my PC directly into the LAN port 1 of the router then powering it up. On my network connection list it keeps trying to identify the network but keeps failing (keep in mind that the router still is flashing). So I decide to attempt a 10 second reset, then a 30 second, then a 30-30-30. All with no success. The router keeps flashing.
Which gets me to the point where I am now... router flashing at me, and wondering if this now out of warrenty unit was a waste of money. I am noticing that a lot of people have had questions and issues with the E4200v2 which now concerns me, well hopefully this can be fixed.
I would like to know how to setup QOS on the linksys EA6500 wireless router. I know about the media prioritization settings, however, thats not enough for me. I would like to setup upload and download speed limits for certain devices on my network, like, say 300kbps download for a certain device at all times.

Is it possible to even get Gigabit dowload speeds via DSL or would I have to go cable to achieve something like that ?My main concern is I don't want to buy a modem that will slow down or 'throttle' the capabilities of the new router I've just purchased or have I got the wrong idea ?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI would like to use the EA6500 in my network - but nor as primary router (or in fact routing at all). I would have thought, one could simply tell the device to use a particular gateway, but it does not seem to be easy. I have used many other home routers as combined switch/AP/USB-drive (latest a D-Link DIR-655), but the EA6500 seems very picky. The "easy" "Smart Wi-Fi" setup requires internet access through the WAN port - and that divides my home network, which then have two zones which cannot really "talk" to each other. Alternatively, I can reset the device and access it directly on the IP (initially 192.168.1.1). But then I can change only LAN and WLAN settings. Stuff like Guest Access, USB-devices etc. won't work. Do anybody have success with this device without using the WAN port and the DHCP server?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a pair EA4500s that I am swapping out for a pair of EA6500s. One EA6500 is a router. The 2nd EA6500 is set as a bridge and us being used as an Access Point about 200ft and two floors above the main EA6500 router. The two units are connected via DECA (200MB Ethernet over DirecTV cable - an alternative for others with a cable provider is called MOCA). So, basically two EA6500s serving as two Access Points on opposite sides of the house and all wireless networks on different channels but all sharing the same SSID. Everything works GREAT except for one unusual issue.
The issue is with wired or wireless clients. If I try to use my PUBLIC address with port number to address a local client on the local network inside the NAT network the NAT redirection fails. In other words if I use 172.16.16.8 for a local web cam while inside my network from an iPhone or PC all works great. If I use the external public address, however, the connection times out. If I pop out the EA6500 doing the routing/NAt and swap it with the old EA4500 with basically the same config as the EA6500 everything works again. The EA6500 and the EA4500 are configured identical for the most part and with the EA4500 as the main router NAT redirection works great but with the EA6500 NAT redirection fails. I have the firewall setting to FILTER NAT REDIRECTION unchecked so that's not the problem.
Seems very odd.... and only seems to happen with the EA6500..... the work around is to use the local IP address when the client is on the inside and the public address when on the outside, but what a pain that is....
Any work around to enable reverse NAT or similar functionality on the EA6500? I recently upgraded from a Dlink that did support reverse NAT to my internal devices through a dynamic dns service. Now I have to know the IP address for all the devices.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi setup my new EA6500 with the ethernet cable from my cable modem plugged into the EA6500, but with my old E4200 still switched on, but disconnected, i seemed to have ended up with a ip address of 10.250.27.47, not the 192.168.1.1 i was expecting, which i had with the E4200, my question is, is 10.250.27.47 something i should expect with the EA6500, or do i need to do a factory reset on the EA6500 and start again with everything else switched off as a precaution ?
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy xp computers recently gave up. So, I bought a new one (windows 7).
When I had my new computer plugged directly into my modem, there was no problem; I could easily connect to the internet.Yet, when I plugged the modem into my router (WRT54GS) and then plugged the router into the computer, I repeatedly encountered: Error 651.
The new computer has a built-in wireless adapter. So, I was able to disconnect the router and try to re-connect via a wireless connection. Yet, dispite being able to connect to my "network", the computer was not able to connect to the internet; again, I received the dreaded Error 651 message.I tried using the installation disk, but it would not work, either.
I set up EA6500. All kinds of problems with anything on the 2.4 MHz band. My wireless desktop on the 5.0 MHz band was flawless. So I ran Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector (freeware). The router is transmitting two 2.4 MHz signals! One is the SSID I set up and named. The other one is identical in every way except that the BSSID is slightly different. It is a non-broadcasted SSID that shows up on every device as "Other Network." I was on the phone with Cisco Support tonite, and they were great as usual but had no answer. If you change the channel on the 2.4 MHz band, the shadow network also changes to the same channel (this blew the Tech's mind). We reset the router to factory settings and started over. They are calling me back tomorrow. This router has great features on paper, but so far, it has not delivered.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThe only way I could get my EA6500 to work as auto DHCP to my Roadrunner Motorola SBV5220 Surfboard cable modem was to disable IPv6 support on the router. It appears that the EA6500 attempts to issue the DHCP request for address assignment from the modem using IPv6. I could see the status of "Connecting" for IPv6 in the Diagnosis Reports and it would hang. Once I disabled IPv6, the modem assigned an IPv4 address and everything worked fine. However, am I giving up any functionality by having to do this? I bought this router and the WUMC710 Universal Media Connector for the 5GHz connectivity for streaming and just wondered if I'm impacting UMC performance or any other functions of the router by having to disable IPv6.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI currently have my EA6500 behind verizon fios router. I have 5 static IP addresses assigned to FIOS router, however the machines I want to connect to are behing EA6500. It's a dual NAT scenario:
Public IP - FIOS Router - 192.168.1.0/24 network - EA6500 - 192.168.2.0/24 network
What I would like to do is for each public IP address, I would like to forward traffic to a particular host on 192.168.2.0 network. I can easily configure FIOS router for static NAT and assign one internal IP (from 192.168.1.0 range) for each public IP. However, I don't see a way to assign multiple IPs from 192.168.1.0 network to EA6500 internet interface.
I don't want to use EA6500 as a bridge as it will pretty much reduce my EA6500 to a very expensive GigE switch.
Is this possible? Or should I replace it with something more useful like a business router? This is for my home so I would like to avoid buying an expensive business router.
