Linksys Wireless Router :: Extending Range On E2500?

Jul 10, 2011

My wireless router in my downstairs office won't reach an upstairs bedroom on the other side of my house.  I'd like to extend the range.  It is not clear if my best option is to get an antenna to boost the range (such as an Alfa 500mW AWUS036H USB Wireless Adapter 802.11 b/g Network Radio Card. Includes 2dBi Omni Antenna ), or to get a repeater to repeat the signal, such as a Hawking HWREN1 Hi-Gain Wireless-300N Range Extender.     I also don't know if Linksys has a product for either application that works with 802.11n standard. Finally, since the Linksys E2500 has no antenna or antenna port visible, I am nod sure if an antenna such as the Alfa listed above or a Hawking HSB2 HiGain Signal Booster would even work with the E2500.

NSA5500 Block Of Static IP Addresses From An ISP

Nov 20, 2012

We have both a Comcast and Verizon connection at our school. They are going into a Sonicwall NSA5500. The configuration is such that if the primary - Comcast - fails then the secondary - Verizon - will pickup the internet traffic. The issue we are having is with local Verizon customers. When we got our IP address from verizon it was a /24 subnet with a gateway starting at .1

I thought this was strange as every other time I have gotten a block of static IP addresses from an ISP it has been a /29 or /28 at the most. But the ISP confirmed that this is what we were supposed to get and it should not cause problems.

A local business we deal with happens to be on our subnet with the same next hop Gateway. When I perform a traceroute to them, the traffic goes directly out the Verizon WAN interface to our common gateway, then to the local business. This, all while the Comcast Interface is our dedicated primary for all traffic.

I spoke with Sonicwall and they explained that the firewall is simply taking the most efficient path which makes sense to me in some regard but is still confusing why it would use the interface when policy says it is a failover.

Now, this local business tries to send us email with their on premise Exchange - we also have Exchange. The emails will sit in their queue indefinitely and ultimately fail to reach us. If I disable the Verizon interface the emails come in perfectly fine - even some in their queue will immediately come through once I disable it. I thought this was a DNS issue but it is not or at least our DNS is all configured correctly where we have no other problems with email. Our MX records utilize the static IPs from Comcast - nothing is using our static Verizon addresses.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505 - Create ACE For Range Of IP Addresses

Nov 7, 2011

trying to configure our ASA 5505 (hence my request for the ASDM). However, I can go CLI if push comes to shove.

What I'm trying to do is allow a range of IP addresses on the inside interface (those which the DHCP server is doling out IPs which are XXX.X.XXX.14-140) to access email only (which is hosted offsite). They still need to access the file servers which are on the inside but nothing should be going out to the internet other than email.

I believe I have to create a Network Object which contains the IP range I wish to restrict. I can see where I add the Network Object but I don't know what the syntax should be to specify the address range.

I'm also not sure what the sequence of the ACLs should be and whether or not I can keep the default Access Rules in place. There are the two implicit rules: 1) Permit any traffic out to less secure networks  2) Deny any traffic to anywhere (which is superceded by rule 1, yes?)

To create an Access Rule like the one I desire, do I need to move the two existing rules down the list so that the new one will supercede both implicit rules?

Linksys Wireless Router :: Reset Static DNS On A Linksys E2500?

Oct 4, 2012

I previously entered in settings for the "Static DNS" 1 through 3 (using ip addresses from OpenDNS and one from Google DNS).
I want to remove these so the router reverts to using the DNS allocated to it by the ADSL modem (which will likely be the IP of the modem, which then forwards the requests to the DNS from the ISP).But I can't clear the Static DNS settings. I have to put in 0.0.0.0 but the last zero is not accessed. I get the error: The value is out of range [1 - 254].So I end up with 0.0.0.1 and then all Internet access is lost on the computers because they are being given a bad DNS IP.

How can I reset the static DNS ip address back to 0.0.0.0 ?

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA6500 NAT Multiple IP Addresses?

Jan 23, 2013

I currently have my EA6500 behind verizon fios router. I have 5 static IP addresses assigned to FIOS router, however the machines I want to connect to are behing EA6500. It's a dual NAT scenario:

Public IP - FIOS Router - 192.168.1.0/24 network - EA6500 - 192.168.2.0/24 network

What I would like to do is for each public IP address, I would like to forward traffic to a particular host on 192.168.2.0 network. I can easily configure FIOS router for static NAT and assign one internal IP (from 192.168.1.0 range) for each public IP. However, I don't see a way to assign multiple IPs from 192.168.1.0 network to EA6500 internet interface.

I don't want to use EA6500 as a bridge as it will pretty much reduce my EA6500 to a very expensive GigE switch.

Is this possible? Or should I replace it with something more useful like a business router? This is for my home so I would like to avoid buying an expensive business router.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54GL Not Releasing IP Addresses?

Aug 17, 2012

Router is setup as DHCP and only allows 7 IP address leases that expire daily.  Lease time is set to 0.  I have the latest firmware. Until recently when our family started using Apple iPhones (2 of them), I didn't have this issue.

Now I'm having a problem where my clients table will show leased IP's with no devices attached to them.  I have to clear those no-name addresses so that the iPhones and other non-Apple wireless devices in the house can re-establish a connection.

How can I get those IP's to be removed without having to constantly log into the router and clear them?

Linksys Wireless Router :: Limited IP Addresses On E4200

Nov 29, 2011

setup the network at his church, they currently have a Cable modem, which hands out 3 external IP addresses, I have that plugged into a Linksys E4200 wireless router, and from the router a line into a netgear 48port switch which hard wires into the offices and a few more E4200s around the church. The linksys is currently handing out IP addresses to all the equipment on the network, the trouble is it only has a limited amount of IP addresses,(50ish wired?) and i am worried that it will become overloaded.  They are also trying to go gigabit as much as possible, as they pass a lot of files around internally.

1. Am I using the right piece of equipment to hand out the IP addresses? The modem will only put out 3, so do I need something instead of the E4200 to do this? If so any recommendations?

2. Do they make a switch that will plug into the modem that is gigabit that will handle internal IPs? I am happy to trash the netgear switch if there is something better to replace it.

3. How can i utilize all 3 external IP addresses? (Well 2 really, I have their VoIP phone system plugged into 1)

I am a low voltage contractor by trade and A/V is usually my department, I would like to get into networking, but on a scale of 1 - 10, I am only around a 4 in the knowledge dept.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54GS Cannot Ping Any Of 192.168.10.X IP Addresses

May 8, 2013

I have a Linksys WRT54GS wireless router (10.77.79.1, 255.255.255.0) which hands-out DHCP addresses to my wireless/wired clients.  This router is connected to the cable modem which then connects to the wonderful World Wide Web.  Port 1 of this router is connected to a Cisco SG200-8 Small Business Switch (10.77.79.3, 255.255.255.0).  My Dell 2950 is then connected to the SG200-8.

I know I'm doing something wrong because I cannot ping any of the 192.168.10.X IP addresses from the 10.77.79.X network, and vice-versa. All VLANs on the SG200-8 are set at their defaults (1 and Trunked?). Are there any additional configuration steps I need to perform in the SG200-8 or WRT54G?Is what I want to do even possible with my hardware?
