My main router is connected to the modem and is an E4500 (upstairs on one end of house). It has a wired connection to the E2500 (downstairs on the other end of the house). I want the same SSID transmitted from both routers.
How do I configure the E2500 to transmit the same SSID as the E4500 to I ahve a consistant signal over the whole house?
I first want to say I "think" I might be posting in the wrong forums for this question, but because I'm not really sure what the proper terminology for this is, I thought it best to ask here.
I have recently upgraded my router for my home network from an old Linksys WRT54GS G router, to a new E2500 N router. I have heard/read that it is possible to reconfiqure my old router to act as a range extender for my network but I am unclear how to do so. I think this may be the same thing as an access point, but all the FAQ's I've found seem to have this work as a solo device, not as a device on existing network. I have my e2500 setup with the modem in my study and broadcasting from there, and would like to use my old G router set up as a range extender to be located in the front living room area and picking up the network signal and rebroadcasting from there without a modem or computer attached.
I have a WRT120N that doesn't provide a great signal in one corner of my house. I wanted to setup a Range Extender to allow it to reach that area better. I have tried looking around on here but am not having any luck finding one that says it will be compatible or how to set it up.

I do have lots of kids and devices connected including DirecTv, iphones, ipads, laptops, and PS3. Is there a range extender? Do I care if an extender only supports 2.4Mhz if I use the same SSID anyway?

I haven't checked true transfer rates, but when I do a speed test (url...), I pretty consistently get the speeds we are paying for. There's a room I wanted to use as an office but the signal didn't reach there. I just set up a WRE54G range expander. It is talking to the router and my compter. I have internet access but the speeds are considerably slower (<1mbs down/<0.4 mbs up) than what I get on the other computer that's talking directly to the router. I've looked for specs on data rates on the WRE54G and can't find them, but I can't image they're that slow. Can this be because I'm using a G expander with an N router?

It is not clear if my best option is to get an antenna to boost the range (such as an Alfa 500mW AWUS036H USB Wireless Adapter 802.11 b/g Network Radio Card. Includes 2dBi Omni Antenna ), or to get a repeater to repeat the signal, such as a Hawking HWREN1 Hi-Gain Wireless-300N Range Extender. I also don't know if Linksys has a product for either application that works with 802.11n standard.Finally, since the Linksys E2500 has no antenna or antenna port visible, I am nod sure if an antenna such as the Alfa listed above or a Hawking HSB2 HiGain Signal Booster would even work with the E2500.

My uncle who is living with me wasn't receiving the wifi signal in his room so he went and bought a different router that is supposed to have more range. View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm a bit confused about what a wireless range extender gives me. I have bought a Sitecom Wireless Range Extender 300N. This extends the wireless range of your router to parts of the house that have a weak signal or none atall.
It is setup correctly and is working fine, however, the SSID is different from the Router.
Essentially, I want to extend the range of my router to parts of the house that have a low signal. This range extender seems to be the correct product to do this. However, I want my clients to switch to the appropriate wireless access point (either the range extender or my router) depending on the strongest signal, how can this be configured?
When a client is the overlap area (the area where both the router and the range extender can be sensed) I want the client to switch to the strongest signal.
In my case My Router is in the loft and the range extender downstairs. You can still get a low signal from the router when you are downstairs but the range extender give a full signal. However, I dont understand what makes a laptop 'switch' from router to extender when its downstairs.
Because the extender has a different SSID a laptop that can still get a low signal from the router when downstairs doesn't automatically attach to the extender to get a strongest signal.
If I set the extender to have the same SSID as the router
My client has a DSL modem and a Belkin wired 4-port router configured to connect to it using PPPoE. Apparently there is no way to configure the E2500 such that it may be dropped in as a direct replacement for the Belkin (which would also provide wireless access) without the PPPoE login/password (from the DSL provider, Verizon).
I would like to connect the "Internet" port of the E2500 to one of the Belkin's 4 ports, in order to use the E2500 for wireless internet access without using any of the 4 wired ports but I think this creates a NAT within an existing NAT network?
To avoid that if I configure the E2500 in wired bridge mode, it becomes transparent, and I can no longer access its administration interface using the address 192.168.1.1 (since that address belongs to the Belkin). How may I, for example, change the wireless password which the E2500 is in wired bridge mode?
Is it possible to configure a E2500 as router and WAP54G as a repeater? I used to have a WRT54GS as router but it has broken and now I bought a E2500 to replace it.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just got a new hawking N range extender to run on our network. My parents just got a new Internet Ready TV for the holidays but the wireless doesn't reach to their room. I ordered this range extender to boost the signal from our Linksys E2000 router. I was having a hell of a time setting it up last night. I was hoping that I could have them both use the same SSID so they would basically be the same network with all of our laptops/iPhones/iPads seamlessly switching to the strongest signal. (Router is in basement, extender is on the main floor). Unfortunately just setting them up with the same name and WPA key doesn't work as easy as I thought it would. So as of right now I have the extender set up as a different network name and it is working great. (router SSID = name, extender SSID = nameE) I just want to know if there is a way to make it work with the same SSID. I've been trying to research and have come across forums saying they need to have ALL the info the same (SSID, PassKey, Channel) and others saying the channels need to be different.
Right now I left the extender setup with the default IP and made it static so I could access the web interface again because the CD installation that came with it is absolute garbage (you can't change the broadcast channel with it). I can get into the settings easily by using 192.168.1.240 but I am weary to try to change things around again because I already have set up and reset this guy at least 5 times.
Little info on my setup as is: Comcast ISP Internet Modem with the wireless gateway built in. I live in a faily large house and am out in my garage a lot where the signal is sub-par, id also like to have internet out in my yard without it sucking.
I have an extra linksys wrt45g sitting in my garage...could I use that someway to extend the range of my wifi? The signal from my main gateway is wireless N.
I currently have a Belkin router and a Belkin range extender. I have the router downstairs and the extender upstairs. Right now the router operates as <SSID> and the extender is <SSID> Alt. I would like to use them both as <SSID>, and have them work together. For example, I use the Wifi downstairs on my laptop, I walk upstairs, and I don't have to change over to the other network. It would switch automatically to the stronger signal.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOn instruction from reviews of the TV on amazon, i bought a TP-Link wireless range extender to set up as a client/repeater (not sure which to use) to connect wirelessly to my router in another room so i can connect an ethernet to the TV for online functions without an overpriced Sony wireless dongle.I connect the device to the router, assign a random IP in the same subnet as my lan (since it has the same default address as my router) and set the default gateway to my router's IP address (assuming this is what it is asking for) and set the device to either client or repeater mode (unsure of which i need so have tried both) and everything seems fine until this point. However, I set the device to WEP security and set the WEP key to the same as my router as the instructions say and my router instantly loses it's internet connection entirely and repeatedly tries to reconnect and fail until i disable WEP security on the wireless range extender, at which point it successfully reconnects.
