Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 Need To Configure Two VLANs In Home Network To Separate Server 1 With VM

Jan 14, 2013

I need to configure two VLANs in my home network to separate a server 1 with VM from another part of network with server 2 and wifi clients. Is it possible to keep DHCP server and internet access on E2500 enabled for both vlans? If so, how should I configure ports tagging (variant shown on screen shoot below doesn't work).

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 - Configure Multiple SSID's?

Aug 15, 2012

I just bought a Linksys E2500, and I'm trying to configure multiple SSID's on it. The "guest mode" won't work for me because I want one SSID to use WPA and the other to use WEP, but the option to set different encryption based on the GHz frequency of the connection won't work for me because I only want the WEP one to be used by my Nintendo DS (which doesn't support WPA); I don't want to force ALL devices that don't support 5GHz to use the WEP one!

Linksys Wireless Router :: How To Configure E2500 In Wired Bridge Mode

Jan 25, 2012

My client has a DSL modem and a Belkin wired 4-port router configured to connect to it using PPPoE.  Apparently there is no way to configure the E2500 such that it may be dropped in as a direct replacement for the Belkin (which would also provide wireless access) without the PPPoE login/password (from the DSL provider, Verizon).

I would like to connect the "Internet" port of the E2500 to one of the Belkin's 4 ports, in order to use the E2500 for wireless internet access without using any of the 4 wired ports but I think this creates a NAT within an existing NAT network?

To avoid that if I configure the E2500 in wired bridge mode, it becomes transparent, and I can no longer access its administration interface using the address 192.168.1.1 (since that address belongs to the Belkin).  How may I, for example, change the wireless password which the E2500 is in wired bridge mode?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 / E3200 Or E2500 Better For Home Access Point?

Jan 18, 2012

I am looking form accesspoint for home network. I do not need router and usb functionality, I have this already in my linux server. I need only wifi accesspoint with 2 bands and 300Mbps bandwith. Is there a big difference between E4200 or E3200 or E2500? I know that E4200 supports 450Mbps, but I am not planning to buy new devices which could go faster than 300Mbps. Beside of technical parameters in technical specyfication is there a difference in wifi bandwith or tranmission between wifi and cable network?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 Cannot Ping To Server Outside LAN

Mar 15, 2012

I have a client offsite with some of our automated equipment. This system is ran by an operator interface. The HMI has a built in web server. I have configured an E2500 to port forward for access to the HMI from outside the local network. It works perfectly. However, what I cant figure out is why I cannot ping the panel on the same public ip address i use to access the built in web server to view the panel remotely. The HMI has a USB pen drive in it which stores data files. This needs to be accessed (via port 21-ftp) remotely as well. Therefore in the port fowarding list 21 has been added with the ip address of the HMI. I type in the public ip just as I would to access the panel remotely (except I use url...) and it will not connect. I even try adding 21 to the end of the ip.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 Doesn't Act As A DNS Server?

Mar 20, 2012

Just successfully replaced a WRT54GL with E2500 as my primary router. Everything went great and the setup of the new router was easy enough. Everything just works.

Except one thing: the new router doesn't act as a DNS server on my network. Therefore, my network shares do not reconnect and I cannot ping the machines using their network name, only their IP addresses. Running ipconfig /all shows 192.168.2.1 as my default gateway and DHCP server, but not as a DNS server. I'm positive that my "old" WRT54GL was acting as my DNS server

Home Network :: Get Circumvent ISP VLANs To Use Own Router?

Jul 17, 2011

I currently have an ISP in Singapore who provides me with Internet and Phone service. Both services are delivered via optical fiber, I have a 1Gb bandwidth and one singe phone line. It is all connected the following way:

TP-----ONT-----RG-----CMS-----WR
|
Phone

And what I am looking at having is something like this:

TP-----ONT-----CMS-----WR
|
RG
|
Phone

TP = Fiber Termination Point Not a really interesting piece, just a fiber junction box ONT = Optical Network Terminal (Huawei Echolife HG863 GPON)[URL]This is where the fiber from the TP connects to. It has one fiber port and four Gb ports. No problem with this piece (so far)RG = Residential Gateway (Huawei HG265s Wireless Router) [URL]. From the ONT Port 1 I have a CAT6 cable to the WAN port of this router. It also has four FE ports and two RJ-11 ports (I use port 1 of the RJ-11). The problems are several: the firmware has been modified by my ISP so that the configuration is resticted. The port forwarding does not work. The DMZ does not work. The network ports are 100/10 (what is the use of having 1Gb?) The wireless range is crappy. I just hate it.

CMS is a CISCO SLM2008 8 port Gb managed switch

WR is a Cisco Linksys E4200 with DD-WRT

OK now, my ISP does not allow me to use any other router except the HG265. It does this by using VLANs. As far as I have been able to tell there are at least three VLANs in use (there are more but I can't identify the use for the others), one for TR-069 to manage the RG, one for my phone and one for internet.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 - Set Up Wifi Network

Feb 25, 2013

I have the following equipment
E2500 wireless N router (2 of these)
WRT54g router (B/G)
WAP54g access point (B/G)

I am planning to set up a Wi-Fi network for a single story motel. It is C-shaped; about 300 feet along the longest side with "legs" of 120 and 70 feet.Until now I have only used that single WRT54g in the office for the entire property and it covers about half the property (left side.) My plan starts in the office (bottom left) with a WRT54g connected to the DSL modem as it always was. That would be connected to one of the E2500s in the middle so it can cover the most area. From there two others would shoot out to each corner (the other E2500 and the WAP54g). They will all be wired together with Cat 5e "riser cable". The routers will be placed in a wide open attic.

1. I have heard that N routers have a range of 150ft in every direction so that's why I'm putting one in the middle. Keep in mind that while the attic is open and wood constructed, the walls between rooms are concrete firewall and they haven't been wi-fi friendly.

2. Does starting with a B/G router at the modem mean the N routers will revert to B/G?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 Can't See Other Computers On Local Network

May 1, 2012

I have a E2500 connected to a cable modem as the base of my home network. Hard wire connected to the E2500 is an linksys 8 port hub and a couple of computers. The 8 port hub is connected to a couple of computers and a xbox. I have the hub as a distro point to cut down on wiring. Wirelessly connected to the E2500 are a variety of laptops, netbooks, ipods, an ipad, a playbook, an iphone, a android phone, a wireless printer and a Ps3. Most of the devices are just using the wifi for internet access. Most devices have been setup with their own ip addresses to avoid ip conflicts. The computers and laptops/netbooks are running either Windows XP, Windows 7 or Mepis Linux. Up until now everything was going as good as can be expected, all the computers could see each other and most could transfer files between each other except when Windows gets picky. In the last few days no computers can see each other. Windows or Linux.Everything can accsess the internet and wirelessly print still just can't see each other. I reset the E2500. I updated the firmware on the E2500. I installed the Cisco Connect software (just in case I was too stupid too setup a router). Still nothing. I can ping other machines from a command prompt in windows or a terminal in Linux and get a good ping back. In the router setup via a browser I can go to the status page and see other devices on the local network but most are just ipods, ipad, playbook and the wireless printer, If I go to the administration page / diagnostics I can ping other computers and get a good answer. I just can see them from each other. I think I've rebooted every thing at least once. Yes the workgroup names are all the same (workgroup) and yes file sharing is turned on on all computers.

I have a Linksys E2500 router.  Is it possible to have one network name for the secured network and a different network name for the Guest network?  The thought is to not have the SSID of the secured network broadcast while allowing the SSID of the Guest network to be broadcast.  With the convention of simply adding "Guest" to the end of the SSID for the secured network, it defeats the security option of not having the SSID of the secured network broadcast.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 How To Occasionally Change Password To Enter Into Network

Mar 17, 2012

When I enter admin in user name and my secure password to allow devises to connect to the network it lets me in. I thought the password to enter the system settings  and the one to enter the network are usually separate.  When I open the Cisco Connect program and go into the various menus there my “secure” password is written and visible for anyone who clicks it. Is this how it is supposed to work? Also, how do I occasionally change  the password to enter into the network.

Cisco Firewall :: 6500 Separate Internal Server / HQ Network From 3 / 4 Different External Connections

May 21, 2012

I am using a 6500 with FWSM. I need to separate an internal server/HQ network from 3 or 4 different external connections. The external networks do not necessarily need to be isolated from each other.I have the option of using a 3 layer model: L2 Access layer to SVIs on the Distribution layer and then L3 to the 6500.L2 Access, connecting directly to the 6500s, with the SVIs on the FWSM.Is it better to have the FWSM outside the MSFC or Inside? Am i correct in thinking that "inside" vs "outside" is determined by whether the SVI's are configured on the FWSM or the MSFC? is there any performance impact from having the FWSM doing the routing instead of the MSFC.If the vlans are all configured on the FWSM, what is the 6500 doing, other than providing switch ports?

Cisco Routers :: Vlans On R180W To Separate Networks?

Jan 29, 2013

I have a network set up between two buildings.  Each building has its own internet connection and DHCP server, building A using an RV180W router and building B using a linksys product.  A WDS bridge has been set up between the two buildings using two wireless access points. The goal here is to allow clients in either building to be assigned an IP from their respective DHCP server (and thereby use that building's internet connection), yet still access network resources (eg file storage, printer, etc.) in the other building should the need arise.I have tried to set this up by having the RV180 assign IP's in the range 192.168.0.xxx to its clients in building A, and the linksys to assign IP's in the range 192.168.1.xxx in building B.  I have enabled Vlan 1 and Vlan 2 on the RV180 - vlan 1 runs a DHCP server for building A.  Vlan 2 runs no DHCP server and is directly connected to the WDS bridge to building B.  Inter Vlan routing is enabled on both Vlan 1 and Vlan 2.On the WDS bridge modules, ive assigned both static IP's in the 192.168.1.xxx range (vlan 2 range).  I've specified their dns and default gateway as 192.168.1.2 which is the static address for the RV180 in vlan 2.From a PC in vlan 1, I can ping and access the webgui for the WDS bridge modules which are in Vlan 2.  However, i cannot ping any other computer in Vlan 2 which is set to accept a dynamic IP from the DHCP server operating in Building B.  I assume this is because the WDS modules point to the RV180 as their default gateway and dns server, while the clients that have accepted a dynamic IP from the building B DHCP point to that device as their default gateway and DNS.I am considering trying changing the DNS and default gateway on the building B side of the WDS bridge to the building B values to see if that works, but am concerned i would lose all connectivity to the webgui from building A if i do that.
