View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to extend my home network into my basement with both wired and wireless connections. I have a WRT120N upstairs, which is connected to my cable modem. I have an E1200 in the basement, which I have connected with a LAN port. DHCP is turned off, and all wired connections are getting an address from the upstairs router, and connecting to the internet successfully.I've configured the wireless with the same SSID on both routers, but the clients that connect to the downstairs wireless are not able to access the internet. They are getting an IP address from the upstairs router, but can't get past the gateway.

With the laptop I can acces the router admin wireless, but with my home pc I am not able to acces the router! I get "The username or password you've entered is incorrect. Please check and try again." I didnt worry about it until I got an Iphone and now .I was able to re-establish the wireless connection on my netbook today after a ton of research and messing around with the settings and then downloaded network magic, which finally fixed the problem. I believe that it automatically transmitted the WEP key to the Netbook, which is what I am missing when I try to log into the network on the Iphone.How do I get this password to show up on Network Magic? When I look at the settings, it does not show the actual numbers, they are hidden.

I drove last night to my mother's house and proceeded to connect to her own wifi router wirelessly. Although my sister's computer that's on windows 7 connects ably, and both our iPhones connect, my computer will not. My computer finds the network( it is unsecured without a password if that makes a difference ) connects, receives an ipv4 address in ipconfig, yet does not obtain Internet access. I have a Linksys WRT54G2 wireless router set up on my home network. When I first got the router, I used the installation disk on my desktop PC to set up my wireless network. I am getting rid of this computer, as I now have a laptop computer. The laptop can already utilize the network, and I can even configure the router using the laptop. Obviously, the old desktop doesn't even have to be turned on for any other laptops or devices to use the network.
If I get rid of the old desktop, will it be necessary to run the installation disk that came with the router on my new primary PC? Or is that a one time process to configure the router with the modem and set up a network?
I have the e4200 v2. I had a hard drive attached to the router. When I try to add files to folders on the drive, sometimes I can add files and sometimes I can't. It is a folder by folder basis. I can't seem to change any security setting that will let me add files to certain folders on the drive attached to the e4200 v2.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've tried looking for solutions on the windows seven forums and all over Google but none of them worked.The problem is, sometimes I get an "Unidentified Network, No Internet Access" error on my laptop (wireless). When this happens, the lan speed drops to 1.0 mbps and I get the "No Data Received" error when I try to load pages.My internet is on fine and my brother can access the internet fine on a desktop which is wired to the router and modem. My mom's notebook sometimes gets this error as well.
Is there any real solution for this problem or known compatibility problems between my WRT54G (version 1.1 I think) and Windows 7? Really need a solution to this, before I had to re-setup my whole connection, I didn't get such a problem. My laptop doesn't get the error in the school network either.
The old configuration was a Linksys/Cisco WRT120N plugged into a NETGEAR ProSafe VPN Firewall FV336GV2. I will list the settings below, but the short of it is that the WiFi router was in charge of getting the wireless clients but the Firewall was the one that assigned IP addresses and all that. This setup worked out just fine except that the WiFi router was in the basement and clients could only connect to it while still in the basement. They wanted to be able to connect to the network wirelessly while on the third floor, but couldn't even see the basement router from there. We shipped out an identical router configured beforehand exactly the same way, save for its MAC address and local IP address (those having premonitions, during troubleshooting I try setting different radio channels as well). The client plugged an Ethernet cable from the wall to port #2, and a desktop to port #3.
The desktop has internet access. Wirelessly, however, had issues The client only had a single laptop to test with, an XP SP3 machine. Unfortunately I couldn't pull specs from it as of this post, so I don't know if it connected by G or N. This laptop, which worked fine in the basement, wouldn't connect upstairs (it would sit trying to get an IP address forever) until I had him "forget" the basement network. At this point, he was able to connect to the upstairs router and access the internet. However, he could then no longer use the access point in the basement. I tried the same troubleshooting steps, like having him delete the wireless profiles from his network card and rebooting the router, but he couldn't even see the basement router while down there anymore.
Occasionally, it would show up for a moment, then disappear before he could connect to it. To make sure it was the basement router that was briefly appearing, I renamed the upstairs router to something else; this confirmed that indeed it was the basement router that was doing the "now you see me, now you don't" act. I then tried setting the basement router to Channel 1 while leaving the upstairs one at Channel 6. Still nothing, even though the laptop was about 25 feet away from the basement router and I had him wipe the wireless profile again. Rebooting the computer didn't solve the issue either. After this, I named the upstairs router back to the same as the downstairs one and had him go upstairs to test; he could connect to it right away.
I figure this is either a configuration issue on the laptop or routers (or firewall). Unfortunately, there weren't any other wireless clients to test with, and I'm not sure there will be when I continue troubleshooting on Monday. By the way, I looked for a "bridge mode" option on the WRT120N and couldn't find one; I'm told that the firmware doesn't support it. I don't feel comfortable putting on alternative firmware unless it's literally the only thing that will solve this. The configurations for the networking equipment are listed below.

While the home PC and my brother's laptop can connect to the wireless internet, my sister's laptop has never been able to. The antivirus software installed is Avast! and there is also a Windows Defender. It can connect no problem using an ethernet cable.

The main router is in the basement where out internet connection enters the house, also in the basement is our LAN board where we have ethernet cables extending to parts of the house. There is weak wireless signal from groundfloor up to the top floor so wanted to find something where I could plug into the ethernet port and it would broadcast an wireless network to the upper floors/areas with a weaker signal. Thought the RE1000 would do this job but i can't get it to do it wirelessly let alone connect it to the main router using a ethernet cable.
I would like to wirelessly connect my printer through the new router without internet. The setup CD won't allow me to install without an internet connection.

(The router at work is Cisco 2811.)A couple months ago, I finally upgraded my home router to a Linksys E1000. I just installed the 4200v2 as a replacement for a NetGear. I bought for the n performance and the USB for a shared disk/media file server. I connected a640G Western Digital My Book to the USB. I was able to see the drive in the asp interface of the router, but I kept getting the "error code: 0x80070035 network path not found" message. My computer is a 6 month old HP with Windows 7 running Bitdefender Internet. I found I could get to the drive from my wife's Toshiba (only used for browsing, so minimal security), so I thought it was a firewall issue (also what Cisco said). After doing some Internet mining, I found that the issue is the Netbios setting in IPv4. My PC had the setting Default, which requires the DHCP server to provide the setting and apparently this was not set by the 4200. Without Netbios the disk cannot be mapped. Changing this to NetBios "enabled" solved the problem. This can be reached by going into the Control panel:Network and Sharing Center. Click on the connection (either local area or wireless), then open the properties, click on the TCPv4, Click properties, then advanced. Go to the Win tab and select Netbios enabled.

I added a wired router (Linksys BEFSR41).I've since bought a laptop computer, an iPhone4 and a wireless router (Linksys WRT160N).Again, on the advice of a friend, I ADDED the wireless router, so now have two routers connected.The devices are connected as follows:
-Wall jack to ADSL modem
-ADSL modem to BEFSR41
-BEFSR41 to WRT160N
-WRT160N to desktop computer.
As I understand Linksys routers, the default IP address for ALL Linksys routers is 192.168.1.1.Both the iPhone4 and the laptop are unable to connect to the wireless router.I'm assuming the two routers are conflicting with each other, so I thought I would remove the wired router..Can I change the IP address of the BEFSR41 router from 192.168.1.2?
Would this resolve the conflict between the two routers and allow the wireless devices to "see" the wireless router? What's the correct procedure for removing the BEFSR41 router from the system?
