I would like to wirelessly connect my printer through the new router without internet. The setup CD won't allow me to install without an internet connection.
View 2 RepliesI am trying to extend my home network into my basement with both wired and wireless connections. I have a WRT120N upstairs, which is connected to my cable modem. I have an E1200 in the basement, which I have connected with a LAN port. DHCP is turned off, and all wired connections are getting an address from the upstairs router, and connecting to the internet successfully.I've configured the wireless with the same SSID on both routers, but the clients that connect to the downstairs wireless are not able to access the internet. They are getting an IP address from the upstairs router, but can't get past the gateway.

The problem: My laptop connects to the secure network without prompting for a password,but then does not connect to the internet at all. This same laptop easily connects to the internet via the network as a guest, just as it should. Tried using Easkey, but same result: laptop connects OK to the secure network without a password prompt, but then does not connect to the net.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a home network with a Linksys E4200 connected to the ISP's fiber box. The problem is that when I'm connected to the Linksys, either wired or wireless, the connection to the internet will drop after what seems to be a random amount of time (normally anywhere from 2-10 minutes). I can restore the connection by doing any of these things:-reboot Linksys-disconnect and reconnect cable from router to fiber box-if on wireless connection, make changes to the router wifi settings, like change the wifi channel.The internal network stays up, and I can ping both the internal and external ip of the router, but not the fiber box. I have also had the same behavior with an Edimax Wifi AP and less frequently with a Edimax router (once every 1-2 days). I have done everything I can think of:-changed the wifi channels-changed the ip ranges, subnets, turned router DHCP off and back on-booted the fiber box-changed cables-updated all routers to the latest firmware, the network cards with latest drivers...and loads other things that I don't remember right now. For the wifi side of things, there are no other networks in range that could interfere. The same problem occurs on both my and wife's Win 7 laptops and on the iMac (latest OSX). Here's a fun detail: while the Linksys has lost its connection to the internet, I can still access the internet through the old Edimax router connected to the same fiber box, either wired or wireless.

I also have a small home network, with one other PC and a Game Console. I own a Linksys E900 Wireless-N300 Router. My problem is this. How do I share that internet connection with the rest of the home network?To the best of my knowledge its not possible to connect my mobile phone directly to my Linksys E900 Wireless-N300 Router.
So my alternative idea is to connect to the internet via one PC, set up that internet connection as "Shared." and then allow the other devices on the home network to connect thru this. My question is how do I set up my Linksys E900 Wireless-N300 Router to allow my other PC and game console connect to the internet? Bridge Mode? PPPoE?
I know the Guest network will allow people in my condo to use their wireless toys but does this open up the possibility of people next door for example using my network??

I will be playing an online game but get disconnected from the server every 6-8 seconds. I tested if it could be my internet provider, but when I connect via Ethernet cord to my modem, it works great. If I run the Ethernet through my router or try wireless connections, it tends to go in and out. It only seems to do this some of the times.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have E1200 wireless router and it was working nicely for the whole last year with 2 mac laptops hooked up on it. About 2 months ago there were 1 mac,1 win laptop and a network printer. And again, it was working just fine at the beginning. I'm not sure when exactly it happened first, but now after working couple of hours internet gets off and router stops responding. If I try to reconnect to it from my laptop I just see an error message saying something about "Connection timeout". Also I don't know does it have something to do with the network printer, btw it's connected to the router via ethernet cable not wireless. Anyway, the only solution I've found so far is power off the router for a couple of secs and power it on again, which is obviously not a solution at all, it's annoying and not practical. The time it works fine before it dies is also not fixed, it might be even 10 hrs of working and sometimes only 1-2 hrs. My other suspicion is firmware. I upgraded it almost at the same time when new laptop and printer showed up. Maybe I have to downgrade it, but I couldn't find older version of it. It was HW v. 1, SW v.1.0.00, and now it's HW v.1, SW v.1.0.03.

I think I know what happened, but I don’t know how to fix it. A connect / disconnect key on my keyboard is located right next to the mute sound key. I wanted to mute my sound, and when it didn’t mute I pressed the key a couple more times before I realized I was pressing the wrong key. So I’m guessing I probably messed up some settings. But I don’t know if on the computer, router, or both. Per the documentation I thought I might be able to fix it with Cisco Connect, but it wasn’t installed on my computer. There were only 3 Cisco modules installed.. EAP-FAST module, LEAP module, and PEAP module. I managed to find Cisco Connect on the website and downloaded it, but still couldn’t fix the problem.

In particular, I would like to password protect the Wifi in such a way that every time I disconnect from the internet, a password is required to reconnect.I have setup the password and confirmed that it works properly when other machines in the house try to connect; however, the main computer I have used to set everything up is also a shared computer. Every time I disconnect from the internet and reconnect, it automatically connects without requesting the Wifi password.
Because it is a shared computer, I would like to disable internet access while I am away but leave the rest of the computer functional. Creating separate user accounts is not an option at this time.Is there any way to require that every computer submit the Wifi password after disconnecting and attempting to reconnect?
Okay so my friend recently bought a Linksys E1200 Wireless-N Router. We set it up the other day and it all appears to be functioning just fine. The only problem is when we log into her wifi it says "No Internet Access". I'm moderately okay when it comes to computers but not expert and I'm horrible at the whole wifi router thing. Through my laptop I've done a Windows Network Diagnostic to see what was wrong and it says that my "computer is correctly configured but the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding."

-Initially I couldn't connect at all with this machine (however the other two newer laptops could) so I contacted the Linksys tech and he advised I should upgrade my laptop driver
-After much research about this I found a common fix was to upgraded drivers from the 2004 sony driver to atheros_wifi_9.2.0.480 drivers.
-After I did the upgrade I can connect to the router on the guest account and use the internet

But in the new apartment the internet is working fine when I plug it in the computer directly, but when I plug it in the router (E1200) it says there's no Internet connection. No WIRED internet and No WIRELESS Internet. I don't get it. The same router I took it back to our original apartment and works fine when I hook up the same ethernet cable to the LAN.

Without reason, the router stopped reading the internet cable/the port on the router stopped detecting the signal from the cable connected to the modem. I can plug the cable from the modem directly into a laptop and the laptop picks up the signal (using it to write this). I swapped out several DSL cables to confirm it wasn't a cable issue and it does not make a difference. I tried rebooting the router, resetting the router, and yet nothing works.

It sets up fine, I change my router name.... BUT at the end it says there is an issue of some sort. The Cisco Connect application reloads saying "repairing connection" but then does not repair it.
Not sure where to go from here. I also logged in to 192.168.1.1 but of course I do not know where to go from here. I also reset the router trying to start from new, but no dice.
I have a question about the function of an E1200 relative to a WRT54G. We currently have the 54G plugged into our LAN, the Ethernet cable plugged into one of the Ethernet ports, not the Internet port, on the back. It is giving wireless clients IP addresses according to our main LAN DHCP, as if they were hard-wired which is correct. Bad thing is, I have no idea what IP address is/was assigned to the 54G itself as it was not logged when done, way before my time. I cannot log into it and take a look at its settings and attempt to mimic what is going on in there on something like an E1200.
Therin lies my next questions. What could be occurring on the 54G that is enabling it to dish out like a WAP and does the E1200 support WAP function? If not, which models do that can be added to the 54G?
I have a Cisco E1200, I am wanting it to connect to the net using Etisalat ISP. The computer will talk to the router and all the settings look correct but it will not connect to the internet.The router did a software upgrade that it deemed successful.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently was able to obtain my son's Nintendo 3DS from him and now I can't figure out how to get on the internet browser with it!When I open up the internet on his 3DS and when I try to access anything it says communication error even though I have a full signal. It also says that the "error code is: 012-1018 Connection to proxy server failed. Please check that your proxy server settings are correct." I have went in and tried to change the proxy server settings and if I do I lose the internet connection despite the fact that the correct information is set in place. I even tried to reset the router (as my son did before) but I can't access it, even though he was able to!! I have done research on the Nintendo web site and everything that it says to do I have done and it shows that I have a full signal but after that no luck.

When I purchased it, it was loaded with 2.0.02 firmware but I upgraded the firmware to 2.0.04.My problem is that I'm trying to setup MAC address-based restrictions thru the manual/web-based setup and when I click on the "Access Restrictions" tab, I only have simple "Parental Controls" and not the advanced "Internet Access Policy".Is it possible that I have a mislabeled V1 device? If that is the case, how is it that I was able to upgrade the firmware using firmware from the V2 downloads section.
Do V! and V2 units use the same firmware but more importantly, how do I upgrade the built-in software so that I have the advanced "Internet Access Policy" controls?
I recently purchased an E1200 to replace a broken router. I have had good experiences with this model in the past which is why I bought it. However this has not been so pleasant. For some reason the internet connection over wifi is INCREDIBLY slow. I don't know why. It is fast when connected via ethernet to the router. I changed the MTU on the router to 1400, I set the wireless width to 20MHz and the channel to 11. I set security to WPA2. And yet it is still very very slow. It's not a matter of how many users are on the network; I live in a house with five other people and it's slow regardless of whether everybody's home or nobody is home. It's like this on Macs, PCs, phones and even the Xbox 360. I just did a speed test. Wired was about 14MBps down, wireless was around .7MBps down. I simply cannot comprehend this discrepancy. The old router was very unreliable in terms of connectivity but at least it was always fast. And my laptop is fast at my mom's house where she has an E1200. I use a MacBook Pro from 2009 but like I said,this seems to be affecting everybody in the house regardless of hardware.The modem is a Ubee modem from Comcast. I'd upgrade it to a SURFBoard but my landlord controls all the utilities and I'd rather not have to explain to him how to call Comcast and tell them to register the modem's serial number to the account or whatever.

I did change the password and that worked for about 24 hours and then he was able to get onto it again. He has a nintendo dsi and he is smart enough to figure out how to dismantle any parental controls on his gaming device. I think that he resets the modem in order to get back onto the internet in order to use his gaming device. Someone told me that you can register each item individually in order to keep kids from using it but I have no idea as to how this works. We have two iphones, a lap top, and two tablets.
