I have a new E1200 router. I VPN from home to my work computer just fine. since I can remotely access the router from work...what setup section of the router would I need to utilize to go backwards and access my home PC thru remote desktop? NAT? if so what are the instructions to do so.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFirst time VPN newbie. I need to set up vpn for a friends small business using RV082 so, as a test, I set it up here at my home using a very basic config. The network topology looks like:
cloud => cable modem => RV082 => DIR655 => win7 PC
At a remote site, I fire up QUICKVPN, enter necessary data and successfully connect. Bring up Remote Desktop and put in the IP of my home pc and the logon username and, after a minute or two, it says "unable to connect to the computer" (or words to that effect). My home PC has been configured to allow remote desktop connections and this has occured in the past but not since the RV082 installation. There is nothing in the PC's logs nor in the RV082's logs.
I have an E2000 router with the most current firmware. I have a Sony VAio laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit,a Macbook with 10.6.8, and a new Asus Transformer Prime with ICS.My work desktop is a Dell Optiplex 380 with Windows 7 Pro 32bit. I frequently work from home and have no issues remoting into to my work PC from by Sony laptop via VPN and RDP.However I have never been able to connect successfully to my work PC with my Macbook(using Remote Desktop Connection 2.1 for Mac OS) or Asus tablet(using WYSE Pocket Cloud RDP app for Android). I can however connect to the VPN itself on the Macbook and tablet without issue same as my Windows laptop. The other interesting part is I can connect via RDP when I am connected to a Mi-Fi 3g hotspot. So it is definitely something in the my Linksys E2000 blocking the connection for some reason. I have even set Port forwarding of 3389 with the ip's of both the Macbook and Asus tablet.I have also tried connecting via ethernet to the router with the same outcome. I cannot ping my work pc from either device as well.In addition the firewall on my work PC is completely disabled and all services related to Remote desktop access are enabled and running.

Apparently I screwed something up in the setup such that I've lost my WiFi connection to my laptop and one wireless desktop. Fortunately my wired connection still works. I've carefully tried to restore my system following the online procedure and while the setup looks OK it doesn't link. In the process I have reset the router to the factory setting several times and have installed the latest firmware version. I contacted Linksys support and using remote diagnosis they reached a point where they said that something was wrong with my computer and to investigate further there would be a fee charged. I balked at that since I had tried the setup from several different wired Window 7 and XP computers.

The remote laptop comes up with logon screen but it isn't visible on the on host machine.I have followed all the instructions including file sharing enabled remote accesss etc, Both machines show up on network map and can ping each other.

Client machine is Windows 7 Ultimate, windows firewall on the Server machine is disabled, Telnet to port 3389 works (as in, it doesn't error out it gives me a blank screen), the account I'm trying to login to is the only account on the machine (Administrator). Remote Desktop service is installed and set to allow connections on the less secure mode.

I have an E1200 in the basement, which I have connected with a LAN port. DHCP is turned off, and all wired connections are getting an address from the upstairs router, and connecting to the internet successfully.I've configured the wireless with the same SSID on both routers, but the clients that connect to the downstairs wireless are not able to access the internet. They are getting an IP address from the upstairs router, but can't get past the gateway.

The only problem is when we log into her wifi it says "No Internet Access". I'm moderately okay when it comes to computers but not expert and I'm horrible at the whole wifi router thing. Through my laptop I've done a Windows Network Diagnostic to see what was wrong and it says that my "computer is correctly configured but the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding."

I can connect to it just fine with my laptop however... so I changed it to 192.168.254.1 as per some internet instructions. Still can't connect via my desktop... Tried ipconfig /flushdns to no avail. Cleared the internet cache Upgraded the firmware (via the laptop) rebooted the computer rebooted the router... reset the router... After rebooting the router I can type in the username and password to access the router, but it never connects....
View 6 Replies View RelatedI had a E1200, I read the articles from the support about the routers, I think the "access Restrictions" has more flexible to setup on for the parental control, after chated to cisco support person online, I was told that the E1200 v2 has this "access restrictions" function, and I wan convinced to purchase from them. I did. I got the E1200 v2 recently, however, after I installed the CD and found there is no "access restrictions" tab, instead the "access policy" is still there. by the way the firmware is 2.0.02 now. How to get the "access restrictions" from setup? I've chatted with cisco support person twice again, but nobody can fix the problem, one suggested to restart and reinstall the CD. I uninstalled the software, restarted the computer and reinstalled the CD. same problem, no tab of "access restrictions".

When I purchased it, it was loaded with 2.0.02 firmware but I upgraded the firmware to 2.0.04.My problem is that I'm trying to setup MAC address-based restrictions thru the manual/web-based setup and when I click on the "Access Restrictions" tab, I only have simple "Parental Controls" and not the advanced "Internet Access Policy".Is it possible that I have a mislabeled V1 device? If that is the case, how is it that I was able to upgrade the firmware using firmware from the V2 downloads section.

I installed an E1200 wireless router yesterday and everything worked fine. However, I happened to turn off the modem overnight and now my computer indicates (under Wireless Network Connection) that I'm connected, but above (under Currently Connected To) it says that I have No Internet Access. I tried turning off the modem, router and computer and turning them on again in that order, but that didn't work. Do I need to do the set-up again ?

It should be assigned 192.168.2.1, which is the IP of the Netgear router. Thefore, I have to manually set their IP addresses to use 192.168.2.1. How do you configure the E1200 to assign the correct Default Gateway IP to wireless clients who want to use DHCP?
