Linksys Wireless Router :: E1200 - Password Protecting Network?

May 1, 2013

I have been trying for the better half of the morning and afternoon to configure my family's wireless network. In particular, I would like to password protect the Wifi in such a way that every time I disconnect from the internet, a password is required to reconnect.I have setup the password and confirmed that it works properly when other machines in the house try to connect; however, the main computer I have used to set everything up is also a shared computer. Every time I disconnect from the internet and reconnect, it automatically connects without requesting the Wifi password.

Because it is a shared computer, I would like to disable internet access while I am away but leave the rest of the computer functional. Creating separate user accounts is not an option at this time.Is there any way to require that every computer submit the Wifi password after disconnecting and attempting to reconnect?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E1200 / Guests Have To Enter Password Every Time?

Jul 24, 2011

getting the E1200 and was reading over the PDF user's guide re. guests. It says "The first time your guest tries to access the Internet through a web browser, they will see the Guest access screen To continue, they must enter the password you provided in the Password field, then click LoGIn." Should I take this to mean after the first time it won't prompt them again for a password? I was wondering If my roommate wants to use my internet account if she can use the guest account every time without a password or not. If she has to enter it each time it might be easier to just add her computer to the network.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E1200 - Parental Control Password And Block Internet Access

Why does my E1200 forget my Parental Control Password? This happens almost weekly and I have to use the "forgot password" option. It asks my security question, I answer it and set the new password to the same password it keeps forgetting. Why does this happen? Also, is there anyway to have total 24hr control on the Block Internet Access?

Protecting Linksys WRT54G Router From Viruses?

May 2, 2012

So I have this ancient Linksys WRT54G router that got a virus, at least I am 99% certain that is the case. i would come home once a week and it would be reset to factory default. Any device going through it would have DNS re-directs to sites filled with spyware. If I used someone elses wireless there were no problems. I dumped the router for a cheapy and all is well again.

So my question, is how did it get this virus and how can I prevent it from happening again? I did try upgrading the firmware but didn't solve my problems.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E1200 Connects To Network But Not To Internet?

Jan 18, 2013

Just set upa new e1200 on my brand new primary PC - connects flawlessly.  One other PC in the house and an iphone also connect on the network to the internet with no issues.  The problem: My laptop connects to the secure network without prompting for a password, but then does not connect to the internet at all.  This same laptop easily connects to the internet via the network as a guest, just as it should.  Tried using Easkey, but same result:  laptop connects OK to the secure network without a password prompt, but then does not connect to the net.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G / Setting Up E1200 As Extension To Existing Network?

Apr 20, 2012

I have a WRT54G that has served us well for several years, but I needed a network connection in another part of the house, both wired for TV, and wireless for downstairs.  So I ran an ethernet cable through the house and connected it to my new E1200.  It's connected to Port 1, not the Internet port. The TV plugs into Port 2, and my Apple TV to port 3.  So far so good, TV and Apple TV appear to work fine.   Wireless is where I'm having problems, the wireless signals between the two routers appear on Wifi Analyzer I'm using.  Both appear strong in signal for a second, then they disappear, then they appear again for a second, then they disappear.  So the wifi's signals appear, then disappear and this cycle continues.

The WRT54G is setup with DHCP, channel 6.

IP Address:    192.168.1.1              Subnet Mask:    255.255.255.0              DHCP Server:    Enabled              Start IP Address:    192.168.1.100               End IP Address:    192.168.1.149

The E1200 DHCP is disabled, channel 11, 20mhz.

Router IP Address:  192.168.1.2  Subnet Mask:  255.255.255.0   DHCP Server:  Disabled  Start IP Address:  192.168.1.1   (DHCP disabled)  End IP Address:  192.168.1.50  (DHCP is disabled)

I've tried both routers named the same, and then tried 2 different names.  I've rebooted them as well after making changes.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E1200 DHCP Systems Loose Ability To See Other Network Computers

Nov 22, 2012

Have Win7 and XP systems in my network wire connected to the router. When IP of both systems are not reserved, each computer can see other network computers and devices, five in total.A good thing that both systems get each time same IPs which even got not changed since I upgraded from E1200.When I reserve an IP for each system exactly that they currently have, both systems loose ability to see other network computers. Network shares not affected, I still can remotely access my XP box remotely from my 7 via RDP by computer name. WDTV Live wirelessly connected to the router can get/update its IP address (no connection issues) but same as others cannot see network resources.

Tried different ways, rebooted, finally ended up with device reset pushing the button. The next day I managed to reproduce the issue, but was able to revert by disabling/enabling of DHCP server.Another issue I got with an external HD connected to the router when some files got converted to folders by uTorrent started from that drive.I had to use Unlocker application to be able to delete folders converted. I can just assume that issue because of anonymous access was enabled to the external disk. No problems when same HD connected to PC USB.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT120N / E1200 - Extend Home Network With Both Wired And Wireless Connections

Jan 27, 2013

I am trying to extend my home network into my basement with both wired and wireless connections.  I have a WRT120N upstairs, which is connected to my cable modem.  I have an E1200 in the basement, which I have connected with a LAN port.  DHCP is turned off, and all wired connections are getting an address from the upstairs router, and connecting to the internet successfully.I've configured the wireless with the same SSID on both routers, but the clients that connect to the downstairs wireless are not able to access the internet.  They are getting an IP address from the upstairs router, but can't get past the gateway.

Linksys Wireless Router :: 4200 Why Password Required For Insecure Network

Dec 13, 2011

My linksys 4200 was set up some time ago for me, (unsecured) and was working fine.  I was having problems with just 1 desktop that was using a usb wireless adapter, so I went and purchased a new cisco ae2500.  While connecting I used the push button that it described, only it knocked out the network, and all the other computers are now off of the network.  The new network(s) are Cisco_WPS_42526 (secure) and Cisco_WPS_42526-guest.  Not knowing the network key and the guys that set it up are gone, I tried the guest. WHICH REQUIRES A PASSWORD!!!!  I can now not get ANY of my computers online!  How do I find the security, or the password? Why would you need a password for an insecure network anyway?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 How To Occasionally Change Password To Enter Into Network

Mar 17, 2012

I have an E2500 router.  When I enter 192.168.1.1 as a web address I am asked for a User name and password.  When I do not enter anything for user name and put “admin” in password the screen again asks me for the same two things and eventually goes to a 401 message.

When I enter admin in user name and my secure password to allow devises to connect to the network it lets me in. I thought the password to enter the system settings  and the one to enter the network are usually separate.  When I open the Cisco Connect program and go into the various menus there my “secure” password is written and visible for anyone who clicks it. Is this how it is supposed to work? Also, how do I occasionally change  the password to enter into the network.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E1200 - How To Connect With PC

Dec 26, 2012

I replaced my broken modem with a new Motorola 3360 as recommended by my ISP.  The new modem works fine connected directly to my PC.  When connecting the modem to the Cisco E1200 router, the same one I had with the older modem, the E1200 says I'm not connected to the PC.  I've triple checked the wired connections from the modem to the router and then to the PC.  I've swapped out cables and verified that they all work when used directly from the modem to the PC.  I'm thinking some settings from the old Westell modem are messing with the connectivity of the new E1200 router.
