Model wrt54gsWindows xpI got the wireless network setup and password protected and my computer and phone can sign o the wireless network, but when I try to go to a website it doesn't work. If I connect te computer directly to the modem then it works.
View 2 RepliesMy E4200 settings show both the 5.8GHZ and 2.4GHZ channels to be active, with SSID's displayed. However, when I look for available networks via my laptop(s)/tablets, etc, only the 2.8GHZ channel is visible. I've tried changing various settings and even updated the firmware but nothing has changed.
In addition my "guest" portal displays as not being password protected, even though it is setup for password protection in the E4200 menu.I've rebooted the router several times, but nothing has changed. The 5.8GHZ channel is not visible.The router is also performing frequent random disconnects, but that appears to be a separate issue, based on other posts.
Need to set up the network to be password protected. How do I do this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI noticed my connection to my school's WiFi was abnormally poor, so I went into the preferences in an attempt to fix my atrocious connection. In doing so, I accidentally checked some box, and I am prompted with an "enter user credentials" message, or some crap like that. The network itself isn't password-protected, so this is a problem within MY computer. Allow me to reiterate my issue in case there was any ambiguity. I accidentally checked some box that put a password on a normally non-password-protected network.

I know I can completely block access of a website and can restrict the viewing hours of facebook at certain times through the router admin IP site but was wondering if it was possible to make it so you have to use a password to view said certain site. If there isn't is there any way maybe through a program or do I have to go through my ISP to see if they can do what I am asking for.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a 2wire modem connected to the Internet port of my WRT54GS which is connected to a D link DSS 16+ Fast Ethernet switch. Without the switch, I can connect wired and wirelessly to my WRT54GS. However, when I put connect my any port of my D link switch to ports 1 - 5 of WRT54GS, I loose internet all together either wired/wireless to the router or wired to the D-link switch.I wonder why the IP Address will change as I understand that the switch is just a pass through switch.

View 9 Replies View RelatedRecently I had to reconnect my WRT54GS linksys router and now it is unsecure, obviously i know how to secure because i've done it before but it isn't letting me...Whenever I type 192.168.1.1 into my browser it will not load the page and it is really frustrating. I have also tried typing in my Default Gateway and ip address that I got from cmd/ipconfig and those will not work either..I'm not understanding why this wouldn't work, and yes my internet connection is fine and nothing is wrong with my browser..

All of a sudden i cant connect to the internet through it at all. when i diconnect it and hook my desktop directly to the modem it works but i need the wireless to use my laptop. I have tried everything to get it working again, no dice. when using w7 diag tool it reports back local area connection doesnt have a valid ip config.

The router is connected via cable to the main computer and there are two other computers in the home that are/were used with it. However I noticed that whenever I looked into the available networks in the 'sub' computers it was described as 'unsecured'. I therefore went into the Router [via 192.168.1.1] and amended some settings... forget what they were set at however I changed it to WEP and now shows up as 'secured'.
I now find that I cannot access the internet from the 'sub' [other two wireless] computers and get message 'network did not assign a network address to the computer' if checking 'repair does not restore connectivity... contact network manager. Use the system with Windows XP Professional on Dell Optiplex GX270.
I work for a large company and want reinstall my wireless router so I move from room to room with my laptop without plugging into our network. I have had it set up before but had to spent an hour with tech support to configure the router. Recently I had to reset the password and lost all the settings.
I can get to logged into the set up with the default password but have no idea how to configure it. No matter what I try I get no conectivity when I try to redirect the browser to the internet.
Yeah, I know I should let our network IT staff set it up, but they get all bent when I want to extend my access to a wireless configuration even if it's password protected.

- DHCP active
- Wireless MAC filter is enabled with only approved MAC's
- Wireless SID Broadcast is disabled
The secondary Router WRT54GS V1 (Router B) will be located down stairs with no Ethernet cable between the two routers.
- Will need this secondary router to connect to the existing wireless network Router A wirelessly.
- Will need to have internet access.
- Will need to have the wired ports to have internet access as well. Needed to connect the Home A / V receiver to update A / V firmware.
My lap top and other desktop are able to detect the internet but not my main computer with this router.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've looked through the forums and FAQs and haven't seen anything that resolves my issue. I recently moved from the US to Japan. I had my WRT54GS set up in the States and the network worked fine. When i got here, i set it up, hard reset the router and set up a new network.
I can access the internet when connected through the router via ethernet cable, but I cannot connect any of my wireless devices. Easy Link Advisor says "internet connection is not working" but it is. I have two computers connected via cable and they both work so it is not an issue of my ISP allowing multiple IP addresses.
My wireless devices (XBox, PS3, laptop) can see the network but cannot connect through to the internet. I also just noticed that the "wireless mode" according to the EasyLink Advisor says "disable", however the wireless settings on my 192. server webpage is set to "mixed" and seems to be correct in all settings to be on.
I have a WRT54GS V7 that I have been running for a few years now with no problems until today.My wife used the internet from her laptop through the day but this evening after she moved to the bedroom and booted up the laptop, she found there was no internet connection. I tried what I know in cases like these, unplugging the router or modem for brief periods of time to try and get things going again but to no avail. So I tried using the Easylink Advisor which basically suggested the same process.
At this point, my internet connection is coming in from the cable just fine. I have access on the desktop which is wired and works with no problems. The modem and router lights are both signaling that everything is fine but no wireless internet coming from the router.
Using the desktop I tried looking for some solutions and tried resetting the router. I ultimately called customer support but being out of warranty they wanted too much although she suggested that I needed to reconfigure the router since I had reset it. I followed the online instructions for reconfiguring but still have gotten nowhere.
I've recently been gifted with a WRT54GS v.2 which came from a family member who upgraded their wireless router and therefore passed this one along to me. It was working perfectly for them, but not me.

The other day I was in the middle of downloading an upgrade for the router when Firefox gave me this message: "Firefox can't find the server". I was no longer able to access the internet, and the router's green power light was left flashing. It flashed for over 24 hours. I tried unplugging the router and shutting down the computer, then plugging in the router and turning on the computer. (I don't have a modem.) The light was still flashing. Linksys live chat gave me a link to "Upgrading the router’s firmware using the TFTP utility", which involves a download, but I can't download anything because I can't access the internet.
View 8 Replies View RelatedHard wired network (15 workstations.) I had a dsl modem connected to my network switch and linksys wrt54gs router connected to that modem. All hard wired workstations had internet access AND there was a wireless internet connection. With any wifi device I could access the internet.I switched from dsl to comcast. All hard wired work stations still have internet. but when I plug my wireless router into the modem (comcast business IP gateway) there is no wireless internet connection. The hard wired workstations can still get online and there IS a wireless network, but it does not allow internet access (page cannot be found etc.)
Comcast says it absolutely should work. Linksys says it requires simple reconfig of router settings (reset router, clone mac address.) I have read knowledge base articles from linksys and followed each step. The lan ports of the modem are all working if I connect to them directly with a laptop and cable. I have reset router multiple times, cloned mac address, dhcp release/renew.
My physical connections are correct. In the router set up utility, I can see the mac adrdress and ip address but can't tell if the IP is from the modem or the router. Default gateway is always 192.168.1.1 in the router AND in any workstation ipconfig screen. Ip addresses are 192.168.1.xx in ipconfig at any workstation AND in the router set up status.
I cannot access internet via router even if plugged directly into it. It is as if the router is not getting the correct information from the modem. However, it worked perfectly with the DSL modem the day before we changed.My workstations are all hard wired and work. I simply want to have Wi-Fi also... for phones and laptops w wireless etc.
I have a xbox 360 that I want to connect to xbox live with, using my home network. Every time I try to connect to xbox live the only part that fails is the connecting to xbox live part. This is how my network is set up. I have Cox Cable as my ISP, a Linksys WCG200 gateway(v2), and WRT54GS(v7). The cable wire is connected to the WCG200 gateway, then an Ethernet cable connects the gateway to the WRT54GS router, and finally an Ethernet cable connects the router to my xbox 360. I have contacted Cox, Linksys, and Microsoft about the situation and they all say the problem is the version of the router. Someone told me that I may just need to change the firmware, but I don't know how to do that.

When I had my new computer plugged directly into my modem, there was no problem; I could easily connect to the internet.Yet, when I plugged the modem into my router (WRT54GS) and then plugged the router into the computer, I repeatedly encountered: Error 651.
The new computer has a built-in wireless adapter. So, I was able to disconnect the router and try to re-connect via a wireless connection. Yet, dispite being able to connect to my "network", the computer was not able to connect to the internet; again, I received the dreaded Error 651 message.I tried using the installation disk, but it would not work, either.
i just pickup a linksys wrt54gs v5 and I cannot log into it. I reset the modem and tried to log in with the default usr/pass ( usr= leave blank , pass= admin) and it is still not working . I also tried other combination of admin, administraror, password and still nothing. Any usr/password that might work? Also I though of I might get around this problem by flashing to dd-wrt or tomato do I need to do anything in webadmin to do this?

Since I upgraded to the latest firmware I can only use the USB storage sharing when "Access shared storage with password" is left UNCHECKED. If I check the box I can no longer see the storage shares in Windows 7. I have also tried "\tploginlink.net" in the Run box, and it connects but shows me no mounted volumes. Also, Is it possible to set up more than two user accounts in addition to "admin" and "guest"?
I needed to bring my laptop Toshiba satellite A135 - S4404 computer back to factory settings. When I did I lost my internet connection. I have a wireless G router. I tried setting up a new connection. When I couldnt remember my username and password to the linksys, I made several attempts to give them one.A fool hearty effort on my part. They locked me out. I was given a red X on that particular network. How to get back to where I can give them the necessary username and password?I believe I found it written on my Linksys user guide.
