Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54GS V7 Doesn't Recognize Internet Connection

Oct 20, 2012

I have a WRT54GS V7 that I have been running for a few years now with no problems until today. My wife used the internet from her laptop through the day but this evening after she moved to the bedroom and booted up the laptop, she found there was no internet connection. I tried what I know in cases like these, unplugging the router or modem for brief periods of time to try and get things going again but to no avail. So I tried using the Easylink Advisor which basically suggested the same process.

At this point, my internet connection is coming in from the cable just fine. I have access on the desktop which is wired and works with no problems. The modem and router lights are both signaling that everything is fine but no wireless internet coming from the router.

Using the desktop I tried looking for some solutions and tried resetting the router. I ultimately called customer support but being out of warranty they wanted too much although she suggested that I needed to reconfigure the router since I had reset it. I followed the online instructions for reconfiguring but still have gotten nowhere.

Router Doesn't Recognize Internet Connection

Jun 12, 2012

I just moved into a new apartment and inherited a former roommates internet set up. Our router was infected with DNSchanger, so I sought to reset the router and update the firmware. I reset the router and it no longer recognized the internet connection. I can connect when plugged directly into the modem, but the router doesn't recognize the internet connection. Below is my ipconfig/all log:

Linksys Wireless Router :: Wrt54gs Switch From Dsl To Comcast / Now No Internet Connection

Jan 5, 2011

Hard wired network (15 workstations.) I had a dsl modem connected to my network switch and linksys wrt54gs router connected to that modem. All hard wired workstations had internet access AND there was a wireless internet connection. With any wifi device I could access the internet.I switched from dsl to comcast. All hard wired work stations still have internet. but when I plug my wireless router into the modem (comcast business IP gateway) there is no wireless internet connection. The hard wired workstations can still get online and there IS a wireless network, but it does not allow internet access (page cannot be found etc.)

Comcast says it absolutely should work. Linksys says it requires simple reconfig of router settings (reset router, clone mac address.) I have read knowledge base articles from linksys and followed each step. The lan ports of the modem are all working if I connect to them directly with a laptop and cable. I have reset router multiple times, cloned mac address, dhcp release/renew.

My physical connections are correct.  In the router set up utility, I can see the mac adrdress and ip address but can't tell if the IP is from the modem or the router. Default gateway is always 192.168.1.1 in the router AND in any workstation ipconfig screen. Ip addresses are 192.168.1.xx in ipconfig at any workstation AND in the router set up status.

I cannot access internet via router even if plugged directly into it. It is as if the router is not getting the correct information from the modem. However, it worked perfectly with the DSL modem the day before we changed. My workstations are all hard wired and work. I simply want to have Wi-Fi also... for phones and laptops w wireless etc.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G Doesn't Show Connection To Internet

Oct 19, 2011

We have a old Router and a new one(the Lynksys). The old one had problems with the Wifi so we bought this one. So when we connect This Router to the Modem it doesn't show connection to the internet. (The Setup fails because of this). But with the old one it does connect to the internet. So either my modem doesn't detect the new router or vice versa. So I am not sure why its not working since on the old one it works fine.

However, when I connect via cable or wireless to Westell 7500 I am able to connect to VPN.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54GS Connection Reset During Firmware Upgrade

May 8, 2012

I have a Linksys WRT54GS (v5) router. I noticed that my firmware was outdated and tried to upgrade it tonight. During the upgrade progress, the browser reset the connection and now  cannot access my router configuration pages.I did a hard reset. Then I did the 30-30-30 reset.

The reset worked but no matter what I do, I cannot navigate to any readable page within the router. I get the log in box and successfully log into the router. However, the configuration page(s) are all jumbled and devoid of useful information. It almost looks like a web page that needs flash to be enabled. Lots of colors and boxes but no text or links to other configuration pages

I know it's an old router but it has served me well. I would love to reinstall the old firmware (or new!) and copy my saved configuration file back to the router. Is there a way to access the configuration via a command line interface?

However, when I put connect my any port of my D link switch to ports 1 - 5 of WRT54GS, I loose internet all together either wired/wireless to the router or wired to the D-link switch.I wonder why the IP Address will change as I understand that the switch is just a pass through switch.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54GS - Internet Access

Sep 28, 2011

I have used the router successfully since purchasing it in April, 2008. The router is connected via cable to the main computer and there are two other computers in the home that are/were used with it. However I noticed that whenever I looked into the available networks in the 'sub' computers it was described as 'unsecured'. I therefore went into the Router [via 192.168.1.1] and amended some settings... forget what they were set at however I changed it to WEP and now shows up as 'secured'.

I now find that I cannot access the internet from the 'sub' [other two wireless] computers and get message 'network did not assign a network address to the computer' if checking 'repair does not restore connectivity... contact network manager. Use the system with Windows XP Professional on Dell Optiplex GX270.

Linksys Wireless Router :: How To Parameter WRT54GS To Connect To Internet

Jul 2, 2012

I intend to connect a network built around the WRT54GS to Internet by passing through a second network who is already connected to Internet through the Orange Livebox-2 (French).I have a traditional home network with basic shares on the French Orange Livebox-2 and its WiFi.The computers runs XP - Pro .My ADSL access is normally through the Livebox-2 (Range of addresses 192.168.1.xxx) and I run DHCP Working Group "WORKGROUP".It works without problem (Internet and VoIP telephony) except the Wifi of the Livebox which is known as poor (range and stability).I also manages a small "pedagogical workshop" for the school who visit my mill. This network is available to my young visitors based on a (tower) server containing the libraries and teaching materials and its printer. It’s XP - Pro machine. and to allow a maximum of two laptops be WiFi connected. The second network is built around the Linksys router (wich integrates no modem, simply a router). The WRT54GS router (rev 6) whose firmware is original Linksys up to date.I am setting the two Wi-Fi (Livebox 6 Cnl) and Cnl 4 on WRT54GS and different keys (this is manageable without difficulty). It has its server DHCP and Wi-Fi to connect their machine. What about the name of this second network group ? Currently “WORKGROUP” as well.I am setting a range different on the router WRT54GS (192.168.2.xxx) and enabled the DHCP.This "educational" network works perfectly when alone and separated from the "home" network and doesn’t get connected to Internet…I want to connect this router Linksys WRT54GS rev6 cascading through the Livebox-2. Share Internet via the Livebox-2 access. What about functionality? What is the connection to setup ?Should it be simple physical connection with a cable between the yellow ethernet port "2" of the Liveboxbox and the "Internet" connector of the Linksys router? Is this a good track to explore? I have searched extensively on the Internet but found proposals who are very old and refer to old Livebox... I did test and is not satisfactory...

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54GS Can Access Internet When LAN Connected

Nov 5, 2011

I've looked through the forums and FAQs and haven't seen anything that resolves my issue.  I recently moved from the US to Japan.  I had my WRT54GS set up in the States and the network worked fine.  When i got here, i set it up, hard reset the router and set up a new network.

I can access the internet when connected through the router via ethernet cable, but I cannot connect any of my wireless devices.  Easy Link Advisor says "internet connection is not working" but it is.  I have two computers connected via cable and they both work so it is not an issue of my ISP allowing multiple IP addresses.

My wireless devices (XBox, PS3, laptop) can see the network but cannot connect through to the internet. I also just noticed that the "wireless mode" according to the EasyLink Advisor says "disable", however the wireless settings on my 192. server webpage is set to "mixed" and seems to be correct in all settings to be on.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54GS Factory Defaults / Resetting Connection Type From PPPoE To Bridge

Jan 17, 2012

I'm having a very difficult time getting my WRT54GS to work with my Westell 6100 modem. I've been bouncing around gathering info, and what I've learned is that the goofy way CenturyLink tech support told me to hook up my old wired router (modem line into outgoing (LAN) router port) is because the Westell 6100 is a "smart modem/router". Therefore, when I run the Linksys setup CD, it sees the modem as a router, and won't properly configure. I've also learned that the Westell modem can be "dumbed down" into simply a modem by putting it into "bridge mode", which is where I'm at right now - trying to get it reset to factory defaults and resetting the connection type from PPPoE to Bridge. In the meantime, I also reset the WRT54GS to factory defaults, and now I've got another problem: the router will not allow me to set up encryption. The default setting is "Disabled", and when I click the down arrow and try to make any selection at all (preferred selection is WPA2 Personal), it reverts to Disabled. I've also tried to change the router's IP address to 192.168.2.1 (and alternately to 192.168.1.253), so it won't conflict with the modem's IP, and it freezes up every time I try.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Can't Complete Setup On WRT54GS And Connect To Internet

Jul 27, 2011

I've tried using the setup CD and doing a manual setup, but no internet connection is detected.  I must confess to being a total wireless router newbie, this is my first one, so I am stumped as what to do next.  I've looked at the FAQ's and through the forum as well, but I just don't know what might apply to my situation and as I am not very well versed in the terminology, I tend to get lost.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54GS / Power Light Blinking - Internet Is Down

Feb 21, 2012

I have a Linksys WRT54GS vers 7.2 Router on an iMac OS X Leopard.  The other day I was in the middle of downloading an upgrade for the router when Firefox gave me this message:  "Firefox can't find the server".  I was no longer able to access the internet, and the router's green power light was left flashing.  It flashed for over 24 hours.  I tried unplugging the router and shutting down the computer,  then plugging in the router and turning on the computer.  (I don't have a modem.)  The light was still flashing.  I tried pressing the logo button for 5 seconds. Still flashing.  Tried pressing the reset button in the back.  Still flashing. 'I can't get on the internet or into the router.  Linksys live chat gave me a link to "Upgrading the router’s firmware using the TFTP utility", which involves a download, but I can't download anything because I can't access the internet.
