Jun 10, 2012When starting my laptop it no longer connects to the preferred network. It has been trying to connect to my neighbors unsecured network. I have tried the netsh settings but it searches for another network and will not connect to the one it is supposed to unless I force it to.

Feb 6, 2012I have wireless internet at home through a Belkin router.It used to work fine but one computer wouldnt connect. I tried checking the security password on my laptop and ever since it won't connect. (However, now the other computer does!) It picks up the signal from the router but just won't connect. When I run ipconfig I get a message saying Media Disconnected. I've searched forums and can't find an answer to this.The laptop still connects to the wireless internet in my office so the wireless capability obviously still works.

Aug 25, 2012One of my laptops (Acer Aspire 5741) won't connect to the internet, it stopped connecting last night at around 9pm UK time. It shows an ! in a triangle over my Internet Access bars. When I troubleshoot the message is 'Your broadband modem is experiencing connectivity issues'. My Compaq mini netbook is not experiencing any problems though. I have tried resetting the router, removing and readding the home network and checking the security key is correct -I do also have a VPN from my university which has been installed since April without any problems. Both the laptop and notebook use windows 7 and Firefox.

Without the switch, I can connect wired and wirelessly to my WRT54GS. However, when I put connect my any port of my D link switch to ports 1 - 5 of WRT54GS, I loose internet all together either wired/wireless to the router or wired to the D-link switch.I wonder why the IP Address will change as I understand that the switch is just a pass through switch.

Aug 25, 2011My E2500 was working great for the past 3 months, and now it seems to be broken since I cannot access the internet anymore. I can connect to the router via wireless or wired at 192.168.1.1 and play with all the settings. On the status page, I have entries for Internet IP Address, Default Gateway, DNS1, and DNS2 as though I was connected fine to my DSL modem.If I connect my computer to my DSL modem then I can access the internet perfectly fine, so I know the modem is working. However, if I connect the E2500 to the modem, and then my macbook to the E2500 then I cannot access anything other than the router config pages. I have also tried, from the router admin page, to ping "www.yahoo.com" and "8.8.8.8" to no avail.
I have tried without success:
1. Renewing IP address from the router status page.
2. Cycling the power on the modem.
3. Rebooting the router.
4. Unplugging the power from both the modem and the router for 10 minutes and reconnecting it.
5. Resetting the router by holding down the reset button for 30s.
6. Using a different computer.
7. Turning off the firewall.
8. Reinstalling the firmware (1.0.01 build 3 May 6, 2011)

Feb 4, 2012i have been using a WRT54GS LINKSYS ROUTER for 2.5 years problem free until now. All of a sudden i cant connect to the internet through it at all. when i diconnect it and hook my desktop directly to the modem it works but i need the wireless to use my laptop. I have tried everything to get it working again, no dice. when using w7 diag tool it reports back local area connection doesnt have a valid ip config.

Sep 28, 2011I have used the router successfully since purchasing it in April, 2008. The router is connected via cable to the main computer and there are two other computers in the home that are/were used with it. However I noticed that whenever I looked into the available networks in the 'sub' computers it was described as 'unsecured'. I therefore went into the Router [via 192.168.1.1] and amended some settings... forget what they were set at however I changed it to WEP and now shows up as 'secured'.
I now find that I cannot access the internet from the 'sub' [other two wireless] computers and get message 'network did not assign a network address to the computer' if checking 'repair does not restore connectivity... contact network manager. Use the system with Windows XP Professional on Dell Optiplex GX270.

Nov 18, 2012About 2 weeks ago, my wireless adapter and ethernet port stopped working all of a sudden. When trying to diagnose, I got the Dagnostic Policy error 5. On the basis of other postings on this subject, I have tried restoring an earlier restore point, uninstalling/reinstalling the network adaptors, have tried to run net localgroup Administrators /add networkservice & /add localservice, have tried adding permissions for mpssvc in regedit (DSP parameters). For the hardwired ethernet adapter, it worked but for my wireless adapter all failed so far. Output from sc queryex DPS > 0 is as follows:

Nov 5, 2011I've looked through the forums and FAQs and haven't seen anything that resolves my issue. I recently moved from the US to Japan. I had my WRT54GS set up in the States and the network worked fine. When i got here, i set it up, hard reset the router and set up a new network.
I can access the internet when connected through the router via ethernet cable, but I cannot connect any of my wireless devices. Easy Link Advisor says "internet connection is not working" but it is. I have two computers connected via cable and they both work so it is not an issue of my ISP allowing multiple IP addresses.
My wireless devices (XBox, PS3, laptop) can see the network but cannot connect through to the internet. I also just noticed that the "wireless mode" according to the EasyLink Advisor says "disable", however the wireless settings on my 192. server webpage is set to "mixed" and seems to be correct in all settings to be on.

Sep 28, 2011I have had a WRT54G V3 router working successfully for a number of years now with a couple wireless PCs through a cable modem with Comcast as my ISP. All of a sudden yesterday, neither PC could access the internet. No changes had been made to the router.
I contacted Comcast and they of course had me hard-wire one of my PCs into the cable modem. That worked and I was able to access the internet. However, when I tried to put the router back in place (in either a wired or wireless fashion), I could not access the internet.
I've tried following the online Linksys troubleshooting document ion. The lights that should be lit on the router are lit. I can access the router setup web page which shows the settings still intact. I've tried going through the power sequencing to no avail. Comcast says my router is the culprit of my problem, but I don't know why it would all of a sudden stop working. My wireless printer still works so it detects a signal and my PC shows it's connected, but no internet access is possible.
What do I need to do? Are there any other diagnostic tools available? I'm out-of-warranty.

Oct 20, 2012I have a WRT54GS V7 that I have been running for a few years now with no problems until today.My wife used the internet from her laptop through the day but this evening after she moved to the bedroom and booted up the laptop, she found there was no internet connection. I tried what I know in cases like these, unplugging the router or modem for brief periods of time to try and get things going again but to no avail. So I tried using the Easylink Advisor which basically suggested the same process.
At this point, my internet connection is coming in from the cable just fine. I have access on the desktop which is wired and works with no problems. The modem and router lights are both signaling that everything is fine but no wireless internet coming from the router.
Using the desktop I tried looking for some solutions and tried resetting the router. I ultimately called customer support but being out of warranty they wanted too much although she suggested that I needed to reconfigure the router since I had reset it. I followed the online instructions for reconfiguring but still have gotten nowhere.

The other day I was in the middle of downloading an upgrade for the router when Firefox gave me this message: "Firefox can't find the server". I was no longer able to access the internet, and the router's green power light was left flashing. It flashed for over 24 hours. I tried unplugging the router and shutting down the computer, then plugging in the router and turning on the computer. (I don't have a modem.) The light was still flashing. I tried pressing the logo button for 5 seconds. Still flashing. Tried pressing the reset button in the back. Still flashing. 'I can't get on the internet or into the router. Linksys live chat gave me a link to "Upgrading the router’s firmware using the TFTP utility", which involves a download, but I can't download anything because I can't access the internet.

Jan 5, 2011Hard wired network (15 workstations.) I had a dsl modem connected to my network switch and linksys wrt54gs router connected to that modem. All hard wired workstations had internet access AND there was a wireless internet connection. With any wifi device I could access the internet.I switched from dsl to comcast. All hard wired work stations still have internet. but when I plug my wireless router into the modem (comcast business IP gateway) there is no wireless internet connection. The hard wired workstations can still get online and there IS a wireless network, but it does not allow internet access (page cannot be found etc.)
Comcast says it absolutely should work. Linksys says it requires simple reconfig of router settings (reset router, clone mac address.) I have read knowledge base articles from linksys and followed each step. The lan ports of the modem are all working if I connect to them directly with a laptop and cable. I have reset router multiple times, cloned mac address, dhcp release/renew.
My physical connections are correct. In the router set up utility, I can see the mac adrdress and ip address but can't tell if the IP is from the modem or the router. Default gateway is always 192.168.1.1 in the router AND in any workstation ipconfig screen. Ip addresses are 192.168.1.xx in ipconfig at any workstation AND in the router set up status.
I cannot access internet via router even if plugged directly into it. It is as if the router is not getting the correct information from the modem. However, it worked perfectly with the DSL modem the day before we changed.My workstations are all hard wired and work. I simply want to have Wi-Fi also... for phones and laptops w wireless etc.

The problem: My laptop connects to the secure network without prompting for a password,but then does not connect to the internet at all. This same laptop easily connects to the internet via the network as a guest, just as it should. Tried using Easkey, but same result: laptop connects OK to the secure network without a password prompt, but then does not connect to the net.

Sep 26, 2012I have an E4200, and upgraded to Connect Cloud. It was buggy, and so I downgraded to the firmware before that. I have all the computers working fine in the house except my desktop. it connects fine to the network, can see the other computers on the network, can even do a windows update. But when I go to use google chrome or internet explorer it just wont access the internet. Feb 7, 2011A business network has had a Static IP Address for several years. Recently, something caused the settings to be changed to "Obtain an IP Address Automatically". As a result, pcAnywhere will no longer connect, and this is a critical function of the office. This has to get fixed. I've attempted to put the settings back to what they were (The IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, etc...) but now the Server will no longer connect to the internet when you setup the Static IP. The settings I am using are exactly the same as the ones from over 2 years ago. Now they no longer work, and networking is confusing to me.
