Laptop No Longer Connects To Wireless Router
Feb 6, 2012
I have wireless internet at home through a Belkin router. It used to work fine but one computer wouldnt connect. I tried checking the security password on my laptop and ever since it won't connect. (However, now the other computer does!) It picks up the signal from the router but just won't connect. When I run ipconfig I get a message saying Media Disconnected. I've searched forums and can't find an answer to this. The laptop still connects to the wireless internet in my office so the wireless capability obviously still works.

When starting my laptop it no longer connects to the preferred network. It has been trying to connect to my neighbors unsecured network. I have tried the netsh settings but it searches for another network and will not connect to the one it is supposed to unless I force it to.
E4200 connects to wrong network.

A couple weeks ago my HP laptop stopped working. It would not boot and I had to put in the recovery discs to get it working again. Before this the laptop had connected fine to my home wifi secured with WPA2-PSK[AES]. After this problem tho it refuses to connect while it is secured. When not secure it functions fine and I am currently using it to type this post. I would have no problem continuing to use the wifi unsecured but another member of my household works with confidential medical information from home and is worried about the lack of security. I have attempted the trouble shooting tips on the support website already. My computer model is HP G60-235DX and the router is a Netgear N300 model WNR2000v3[CODE]

One of my laptops (Acer Aspire 5741) won't connect to the internet, it stopped connecting last night at around 9pm UK time. It shows an ! in a triangle over my Internet Access bars. When I troubleshoot the message is 'Your broadband modem is experiencing connectivity issues'. My Compaq mini netbook is not experiencing any problems though. I have tried resetting the router, removing and readding the home network and checking the security key is correct -I do also have a VPN from my university which has been installed since April without any problems. Both the laptop and notebook use windows 7 and Firefox.

My Dell Dimension is no longer connecting to the internet via the wireless router. I have a dlink DI-524 and a dlink wireless USB key but it no longer connects. This just started today. When I try to repair the connection, it fails on "renewing IP".
OS is Windows XP.
P.S. I have tried power cycling the modem/router but nothing works. Other computers can get on the internet via the wireless router fine.

About 2 weeks ago, my wireless adapter and ethernet port stopped working all of a sudden. When trying to diagnose, I got the Dagnostic Policy error 5. On the basis of other postings on this subject, I have tried restoring an earlier restore point, uninstalling/reinstalling the network adaptors, have tried to run net localgroup Administrators /add networkservice & /add localservice, have tried adding permissions for mpssvc in regedit (DSP parameters). For the hardwired ethernet adapter, it worked but for my wireless adapter all failed so far. Output from sc queryex DPS > 0 is as follows:

A business network has had a Static IP Address for several years. Recently, something caused the settings to be changed to "Obtain an IP Address Automatically". As a result, pcAnywhere will no longer connect, and this is a critical function of the office. This has to get fixed. I've attempted to put the settings back to what they were (The IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, etc...) but now the Server will no longer connect to the internet when you setup the Static IP. The settings I am using are exactly the same as the ones from over 2 years ago. Now they no longer work, and networking is confusing to me.

I'm having an issue connecting to my wireless router. I can connect fine with security disabled, but it doesn't connect if I enable WPA. It says there's a "timeout" issue when I try to connect with WPA enabled. No one else is having issues connecting with their laptops and smartphones, so it must be a problem with my computer. [code]

After a couple of hours using the internet, the connection stopped. The wireless router still had an 'Excellent' signal, but it also said I had no internet access. All of the other wireless devices in my house connect to the internet perfectly, including when right next to the laptop.I've tried disabling the firewall and resetting the computer a few times, but nothing seems to pick up the internet access. The troubleshooting guide tells me that it is a problem with the wireless modem, but quite obviously that isn't true.

My Compaq tc1100 tablet worked perfectly, wirelessly, with our Billion BiPAC 7300NX/N ADSL2+ router, but then it just stopped doing this for no reason that I can think of. In our house is a desktop in each of the 3 bedrooms (one being mine, together with the tablet) that connect perfectly wirelessly to this same router. When I refresh the network list, then one moment it will show my network, and then seconds later when I refresh again, it will give "no networks were found in range".Switching off the router's WLAN security made no difference. Formatting and reloading XP, and installing the tablet's Wireless LAN drivers, made no difference. Moving the tablet around the house made no difference. Now, today I took my tablet with me to spend the day with my wife at her workplace, where there is a Billion wireless router as well (other model). I did not bother to first try to connect with my tablet's wireless card, but instead lent a spare D-Link DWA-125 wireless USB adapter, and connected perfectly. Later in the afternoon, out of curiosity, I started up Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector, and took a snapshot of it, which is attached here. The whole time I was connected like this, there were, in the bottom right-hand corner, two of those wireless network connection icons, one with a red cross through it.
when removing the D-Link USB adapter --- it was time to come home --- the icon with the red cross disappeared once it was pulled out; I opened IE to see what's happening, and my home page opened successfully. So, was I surfing quite fine with my tablet's own card all day?! I then shut down, switched back on (still with the D-Link removed), opened IE, and my home page appeared again successfully. I did not do any other surfing, I must admit, but just shut down again and came home, where I'm back to square-one with a continual "red-crossed icon".........Using Xirrus here on the home network, and with its "locate adapter" pinger noise thingy enabled, it will alternate between pinging for a while and then keeping quiet --- I can supply the Xirrus 500 sec history snapshot of this, if needed.Yesterday, doing a hard reset of the router *momentarily* gave me "aquiring network address", and then connection, but this soon went away again. The tablet did not have this problem with our previous Netgear router. Nothing's changed in the house: the router and my tablet have always stood where they are. There's no new cordless phones, neither. The one that we have, has always stood centimeters away from the router.
Tablet's ipconfig /all:
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.
C:Documents and SettingsAdministrator>IPCONFIG /ALL

I am experiencing connectivity issues with the wireless part for several weeks. The laptop connects to it, but it shows me that it does not have internet access.I also have a belkin router that I also use. So, when I have the connectivity issues, I connect to the other router. When I use the Cisco Connect application, it goes on for a couple of minutes and then gives the message "If you are not connected to my router SSID name you can't update your router settings".

My older Inspiron XP laptop will not connect to internet but connects to router. Local business tech said it was probably the hard drive & wanted to install new hard drive ($260). I feel perhaps I need to update driver for wireless modem, etc. But since I cannot connect to internet, I have no way of updating (I'm using my newer Windows 7 laptop currently which does connect thru the router). Can I download a driver onto a flash drive & install that way? Also, is there a way I can test the XP computer by connecting directly to the router with a cable & if so what kind of cable do I use to check if it will connect? I'm trying to research any possibility of fixing this XP computer because it's too expensive to fix hard drive. Also, everything else works on XP laptop, except Norton which needs to update & cannot without connection.

It says unidentified connection when we connect to the network, and when we go to the "connect to" and connect to the network i setup it will sometimes say "with limited access"!?I have used the diagnose tools on his computer. I have restarted his computer, the modem and the router. We have disconnected and reconnected several times to the network for the new router but nothing works, the only way he can get on the internet with this router is if plugged directly to it with an ethernet cable. We have put the old router back up but I really don't want to keep using it, it is so old and I don't remember the password for it.

my laptop only connects to the internet when the router is off, then switched on. If the router is on when I turn my laptop on it won't connect, but it always connects when I do it the other way around. Other devices (like phones) connect to the internet via the same router flawlessly, it's just the laptop that, for some reason, needs to be on first.

My laptop all of a sudden can't connect to my wireless internet connection and also seem unable to find any other wireless network but mine.I recently moved to a new flat, but brought my old modem/router with me (Scientific Atlanta 2434) and use the same ISP. Last week everything worked as a charm, but at the new location my laptop won't connect to my network, though I can connect to it through my mobile phone. My laptop only seem to find my own network ("Fidel") but with my mobile I can pick up 10-15 different networks from my flat. Connecting my laptop to the modem with a cable works all good. I tried to remove "Fidel" from my networks and added it again, typing wrong password gives a message saying "wrong network key" so my laptop and the modem seem to shake hands at least. Yesterday when trying I actually got connected, but the connection died after a few minutes and I wasn't able to connect again.Windows device manager display no errors nor conflicts around the ethernet controller or network adapter. Have tried to update the drivers through the device manager as well but it says they are up to date.Windows version is Windows 7 Home Premium.Don't know if my ISP uploaded new firmware to my modem when I connected it in my new flat, but on the other hand I can't see why this would affect my laptop's ability to pick up other networks in my house? I have an issue with my work laptop connecting to my home network. It will connect to the internet but only briefly and then the connection is dropped. I reset or repair the connection and I can get it to re-connect but then it drops again after only a minute or two. I tried to connect it to the router directly with a cable (turned wireless off) and had the same issue. This laptop has no issues connecting wirelessly at work or to other wi-fi networks I have tried. I have another laptop in the house that has no issues connecting to the home network & internet. The issue seems only to be with this laptop at home. The laptop is a Dell using 64 bit Vista. The router is a D-link DI-524, 802.11g router and I have a DSL connection.

Title basically sums it up. Whenever my laptop connects to the wireless network in my house, it becomes unusable since nothing can no longer load. I have done a full virus scan and all, found no viruses, adware, spamware, etc. I also downloaded a program to check what programs are using bandwidth but nothing seemed out of the ordinary or enough to completely stop the Internet

Our entire office runs on wireless connections (laptops, printers, desktops, etc) and we have little to no connectivity issues considering. However, we just purchased a new dell laptop. the laptop connected but within 5 seconds immediate loses the connection and reconnects, disconnects, etc.. This is continuous. All other devices, 2 other never-before connected laptops and a tablet have all sucessfully connected without issues...only this new dell laptop does it. The laptop connects and stays connected to all other wifi connections we have tried it with (other corporate wifi and home wifi's). Dell has replaced the wireless card to confirm there was not issue with that (which I was confident there wasn't). Our IT contact suggests buying a new $500 router, but that is a little hard for me to accept seeing that only 1 device is having difficulties (his other reason for this was his concern that he couldn't access something like the router's management tool, or something like that). New Laptop is running W7 OS..

I have been using the same Toshiba A105 for the past three years at work. Recently I had to reinstall XP and since then have not been able to connect to my works wireless/wired internet most of the time. I have no trouble connecting to my wireless at home or basically anywhere else except work. Once in a rare while it will connect to work but if it's wireless it's low connectivity and if it's wired it's prone to just drop out again randomly. Everyone else at work is able to connect wirelessly/wired without issue. I've tried static IP and changing my MAC addressThere are some unsecured wireless networks in range that I can connect to but don't want to for work transactions.
