May 1, 2013I have been trying for the better half of the morning and afternoon to configure my family's wireless network. In particular, I would like to password protect the Wifi in such a way that every time I disconnect from the internet, a password is required to reconnect.I have setup the password and confirmed that it works properly when other machines in the house try to connect; however, the main computer I have used to set everything up is also a shared computer. Every time I disconnect from the internet and reconnect, it automatically connects without requesting the Wifi password.
Because it is a shared computer, I would like to disable internet access while I am away but leave the rest of the computer functional. Creating separate user accounts is not an option at this time.Is there any way to require that every computer submit the Wifi password after disconnecting and attempting to reconnect?
Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Changes SSID And Password On Its Own
Dec 18, 2011I just purchased an E4200 and got it up & running. Everything was fine, until I connected a Wi-Fi DVD player to it. I followed the DVD player procedure, which was to push the WPS button on the router, and then the appropriate button on the DVD player. After a few seconds, the player connected, and I successfully accessed YouTube through it.
So far, so good -- except that it turns out that the router, on its own, changed the SSID and password. When I could not get Wi-Fi access on my iPhone, I checked the Wi-Fi settings, and instead of the original SSID of the E4200 -- let's say ShadeTree -- it was changed to Cisco_WPS_xxxxx (the X's represent numbers). I started Cisco Connect, and a screen came up showing that the password had been changed from the original, and listed both the original and new passwords.
What is going on? Why would the E4200 change the SSID and password all by itself, when I connected a Wi-Fi equipped DVD player with WPS? Is this going to happen when I connect a Wi-Fi equipped TV set, or some other component? What can I do to keep the E4200 from changing the network name and password all by itself? Or am I going to have to re-program every other Wi-Fi device (iPad, iPhone, etc.) every time I add a new component?

It says "The [b]first time[/b] your guest tries to access the Internet through a web browser, they will see the Guest access screen To continue, they must enter the password you provided in the Password field, then click LoGIn." Should I take this to mean after the first time it won't prompt them again for a password? I was wondering If my roommate wants to use my internet account if she can use the guest account every time without a password or not. If she has to enter it each time it might be easier to just add her computer to the network.

I see where I can change the password but it says I'll lose all wireless connections. This doesn't make sense to me. I would think the router administration username and password are completely separate from the ssid and wpa key. This was the case with my earlier LinkSys router. I'd like a router administration username to be something other than the generic "admin" and a password that is easier than my long wpa key. Jan 3, 2012Recently, I bought the E3200, and tried to configure its ports for gaming. Yet, whenever I would hit save settings, it would say my settings were saved, then return me to the settings page. But the settings would be blank. I tried downloading firmware from the website (which should say September 28), yet it still says I am running the firmware from September 1st, even after I applied the upgrade and followed through with the 50 second reboot process.
So, I guess my final question for any tech savvy person out there is "What is wrong with my router/firmware?" I am running the browser config in the most recent Firefox on the same MacBook I used to install the router, and haven't changed any settings other than the SSID and password.

I have a wireless router AOpen AOI-893. It works fine on my laptop, but I bought a new handheld Cruz tablet and when I try to connect to WiFi , the only strong signal seems to be a "default" one. It asks for a password, which I'm unable to come up with. I've tried all of the ones I usually use, plus 1234, admin, etc. No luck. Either I'm barking up the wrong tree entirely by trying the "default" , or I need to know how to find a password. I'm a computer illiterate.

On most wireless devices which are on the company network/VLAN's, I have used WEP authentication with hex keys, and no broadcast. Obviously this cannot be the same for a guest internet connection.We want to have the VLAN/SSID in guest mode (which i have configured) for broadcasting, and then once someone selects the SSID on their laptop or smart phone, they are just prompted to authenticate with a standard alphanumeric password (example "guestwifi") instead of a 40 or 128 bit key.
I have searched all over and tried multiple things in the CLI on AP1, but can't seem to get anywhere.
