View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently changed my internet connection to DSL from Cable, so now I'm using PPPoE type of connection.
Right now my router is configured as Automatic DHCP with the modem doing the PPPoE connection. All is fine and well.
Since I own a PS3, and Nat Type 3 conection is really bad for my online gaming, I would like to bridge my modem and connect to the internet through my router. That way I can properly forward my ports, use QoS and effectively get a better connection on the PS3.
I was able to successfully bridge the modem, but the PPPoE config on the router isn't able to connect to the internet.
Modem and router have been reinitialized after the configurations were changed. I do have the username and passwords, and they were properly put on the router.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy friend changed to TimeWarner cable a while ago. I bought her a netgear wireless switch to have wireless access. She has an old laptop as well with Vista on it, and was trying to connect that to the WiFi. Let her buy the Linksys. Didnt solve the problem and he turned off the wireless security to connect the Vista laptop. That was somewhere July 2011. Since than I have setup MAC filtering to at least have the WiFi not completely open to the public.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm not that great at networking, I'm pretty much a novice but I'm trying to connect a modem and router to my computer but get around bridging the modem if possible. You see, I am working with AT&T and their dsl modem access page only works for me if the modem is unbridged. If I bridge the modem, I cannot get on the page again to unbridge it while I am trying to hook up my router. When I need them to unbridge the modem, I have to stay on hold for hours. One guy even told me that he did unbridge the modem, but since my internet persisted not to work, he told me my ethernet card went bad of a sudden on my computer. I knew this was incorrect so after a few more hours on hold, I had a lady debate with me that she was not unbridging my modem since it was my ethernet card that was bad and not the bridging. Finally, laughing to herself, she unbridged the modem for me and it worked
Here is what I have: My modem is a Motorola 2210 Style: MSTATEA My router is a Linksys WRT120N
As of right now, I just have a LAN with my modem plugged in through an ethernet cord to my PC. Is there a way of me hooking up my Linksys router to my modem and PC without bridging the modem? If so, where can I find out instructions for this?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have rather huge connection at home. DL speed 80Mb, UL speed 3Mb.When I connect my PC directly to modem and configure PPPoE connection, I get 81Mbits/sec. When I connect my old ASMAX $30 router, I get 78 Mbit/sek. And I find it OK.But when I connect my EA6500 I get 28 MBits/sec. Same result on wire as on wireless connection. Of course If I enable prioritisation, I get even less, 12-15 Mbits/sec.I tried already even configuration with ASMAX as wired router and EA6500 connected to its LAN port. It gives me 50Mbits/sec.

I'm using an Static IP adress and i'm using wrt120n router, but to connect the internet i have plugged the internet cable in the 1,2,3,4 (doesn't matter which one) slot. So now i'm just using the wirelss part of the router without "routering" if i can say so. When i put the internet cable in the Internet slot of the router, the laptop just cant connect to internet - it shows Unidentified network without Internet Access. I don't know what type of changes i have to make in the WEB interface of the router. I think i have to set the type of the connection - now is DHCP and may be to put my IP adress, DNS, Subnet mask in the router settings, but don't know how exactly. I've tried to set up the router with the CD-interface but same thing happened - Unidentified network when the cable is plugged in the Internet (yellow) port. How to set up the router to be a router, not just a wireless switch?
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy roommate and I recently got a WRT120N to replace an older Linksys router that was exhibiting the same problems with less frequency. Indeed, the entire reason we got the new router was to fix these problems. Alas, they have become worse.Anyways, what's happening is that the router constantly resets itself. It does this every 20 minutes to an hour and doesn't seem to be related to how much traffic it's dealing with. It's not just the internet going down, it's the entire network, and not even just the wireless part. My computer has a wired connection to the router and, and I get told "A network cable has been unplugged" every time it happens. Then, if I look down at the router, I see no flashing lights, just the steady glow of the power light. It always fixes itself after 10-15 seconds, but it's very annoying. Certainly, playing games online or having a conversation on Skype is made more difficult. As previously mentioned, we replaced our older router because it was exhibiting the same behavior, but the new one does it with greater frequency. At the very least, the router does reset itself instead of needing us to cycle the power. The setup was slightly different with the old router: I was using a wireless connection with a WMP54Gv4 which I've had to disable since it bluescreens the moment it so much as sniffs a signal from the WRT120N?
View 9 Replies View RelatedIs there anyway to disable WPS on the WRT120N router?
All I can do is switch the "view" from WPS to manual configuration in the management console...this doesn't actually disable anything.Maybe I don't understand WPS security, but what's the point of using a 20 character WPA2 password if WPS has an 8 digit PIN that I can't change or disable?
I just bought a WRT120N to set up with my new Gateway Windows 7 64-bit using Cablevision cable internet. When I go through the steps from the CD to install, the wizard does not find the connection. When the internet is plugged directly into the computer, it works fine. If I have the router plugged in first and then run the install CD, it picks up the router as an existing router but I can't get it to install

I think it may be related to the same IP address being assigned to multiple machines connected to the router. Is there a way to set specific IP addresses to each item connected to the router to see?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am considering to purchase a Linksys Wireless router, but I just don't know which one to select. There are so many different types that seem to have very similar (if not equal) specs. If I just limit myself to the WRT120N, the WRT160N and the E1000, they all have 4 ethernet ports (10/100), and they all support 802.11 b/g/n for the wireless part.Obviously they all promise a blazing performance, and wireless coverage throughout the whole house, without (many) blind spots. But if their specs are the same, why are they different types?

Everything else is working good, I can detect the local network but I don't have internet. My internet connection is also working good. My question is, do I have a possibility to use some of LAN port like a WAN? I'm only using 2 of 4 LAN ports. It would be very useful because it's a pity to buy another router just for a not working WAN port.
