I plan on replacing my linksys BEFW11S4 wireless router with a new linksys WRT120N wireless router. Should I completely remove and unplug the old router before inserting the startup CD and beginning the installation process for the new router?

View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter struggling with the setup of my new EA6500, I finally succeed in setting it up. Like other people in this forum, the setup process got interrupted approx., 90% in the setup process. After several factory resets and new setups, I finally was able to login locally to fulfill the setup and upgrade the firmware to 1.1.28.146072). After that, I do have wireless access, but the connection to my LAN connected NAS (Synology), is really really slow. Furthermore, when I try to use airplay to connect to my Airport express it drops out and starts blinking yellow? Finally, from time to time when I log in, I get the "No router found" message (can't remember the exact text). After a reboot I'm able to login. To me it seems that the firmware/router still is filled with a lots of bugs. I think I will downgrade to my old E4200, during the next couple of days, and return the EA6500.

When attempting to set it up using the CD I am asked to assign name + password.....I do this and but the ?? is unable to find the router. This despite the fact that it is 8 ft. away and showing up with 5 bars on my networks available display. View 3 Replies View RelatedI currently have an E1000 router set up on a 2006 Dell PC as main hub of a network that includes kids' 2003 Dell PC (with a Cisco Connect USB receiver plugged in because it has no wireless capabilities) and wife's Dell laptop. We're about to change main desktop computer to an iMac (2011 refurb, won't be running Lion which I know there's issues with as far as Cisco Connect), give the 2006 Dell to kids and get rid of the old 2003 box. I cannot locate my installation CD, I'm sure it's somewhere in our rather cluttered computer area, although I understand I can download what I need. This probably is a dufus question, and I apologize in advance, it's just not clicking in my mind, but basically am I going to have to go back to step one, just like the first day I set up the router, as far as setting up our network?

It's been awhile since I installed the old router and I remember something about not using the CD as it says before plugging in the new router because it messes everything up. All of my computers are running XP Pro SP3 with 2 of them being wired.
I remember something about just plugging the router in and typing in 192.168.1.1 in my browser and then setting everything up that way. Am I correct in doing this or am I forgetting something?
Oh, I am also running Network Magic so would I also have to reinstall it?

I cant access 192.168.1.1. I tried through google chrome and internet explorer but neither will recognize it. Then click next, where it says "Searching Networks", then quickly changes to "Connecting to Network", and then it says it "Cannot Find Router.". Err. Check setup, etc.If I hook up directly to new router VIA internet cable. View 1 Replies View RelatedGot the cisco EA4500 router, installed it and ran the set up disc. It downloads whatever it needs to download, then proceeds with a progress bar all the way to 100. Then it tells me my internet cable is unplugged, but I able to browse the intrnet, like now. It tells me to plug it in and hit next, I hit next and it eventually gives me the same message. I've tried unplugging my modem, resetting the router etc. But when trying to run the disc when it gets to that point it always tells me my internet is unplugged? I can even browse the internet while that message is up.

I'm using an Static IP adress and i'm using wrt120n router, but to connect the internet i have plugged the internet cable in the 1,2,3,4 (doesn't matter which one) slot. So now i'm just using the wirelss part of the router without "routering" if i can say so. When i put the internet cable in the Internet slot of the router, the laptop just cant connect to internet - it shows Unidentified network without Internet Access. I don't know what type of changes i have to make in the WEB interface of the router. I think i have to set the type of the connection - now is DHCP and may be to put my IP adress, DNS, Subnet mask in the router settings, but don't know how exactly. I've tried to set up the router with the CD-interface but same thing happened - Unidentified network when the cable is plugged in the Internet (yellow) port. How to set up the router to be a router, not just a wireless switch?

Indeed, the entire reason we got the new router was to fix these problems. Alas, they have become worse.Anyways, what's happening is that the router constantly resets itself. It does this every 20 minutes to an hour and doesn't seem to be related to how much traffic it's dealing with.It's not just the internet going down, it's the entire network, and not even just the wireless part. My computer has a wired connection to the router and, and I get told "A network cable has been unplugged" every time it happens. Then, if I look down at the router, I see no flashing lights, just the steady glow of the power light. It always fixes itself after 10-15 seconds, but it's very annoying. Certainly, playing games online or having a conversation on Skype is made more difficult.As previously mentioned, we replaced our older router because it was exhibiting the same behavior, but the new one does it with greater frequency. At the very least, the router does reset itself instead of needing us to cycle the power. The setup was slightly different with the old router: I was using a wireless connection with a WMP54Gv4 which I've had to disable since it bluescreens the moment it so much as sniffs a signal from the WRT120N?

All I can do is switch the "view" from WPS to manual configuration in the management console...this doesn't actually disable anything.Maybe I don't understand WPS security, but what's the point of using a 20 character WPA2 password if WPS has an 8 digit PIN that I can't change or disable?

When the internet is plugged directly into the computer, it works fine. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have several computers and printers connected to a WRT120N router which is connected to 10mpbs DSL. The computers are all running WIN7 and are hardwired to the router. On the one PC, it keeps losing network connection. I've tried upgrading the router's firmware, reset, etc. to no avail.
I think it may be related to the same IP address being assigned to multiple machines connected to the router. Is there a way to set specific IP addresses to each item connected to the router to see?
I don't have any problem with the wireless computers connected to the router but the wired one keep geeting disconnected. I'm loosing the internet many times a day on thiis one. Like I said the wireless is ok. My old router on my computer ( wired) was working well before I installed the wrt120n.
