Netgear WNDR3700 Behind Firewall?
Jul 27, 2011
I'm in a bit of a predicament. Trying to set up a Netgear WNDR3700 behind a SonicWall TZ170 SP (Standard OS). The only thing I really want the SonicWall to do is maintain site-to-site VPN connections to a few other networks that I work with.
The SonicWall WAN is passing Internet connectivity to the LAN ports as it is supposed to but the hangup seems to happen at the Netgear; it doesn't seem to want to receive Internet connectivity from anything but a modem and it doesn't want it going to any port but the Internet port (IE, it doesn't seem to want to share Internet via the switches).
I'm thinking this may be a limitation of the firmware and that dd-wrt might be the only answer but I thought I'd bring it here first as my last experience with dd-wrt wasn't a good one.

I cannot access the setup page, even without the modem connected to the router, even after pushing reset button. It says I have limited access both to the wireless and to the wired connections, but won't let me access the internet (via the separate modem)I can access the internet via the modem fine

I am trying to forward the ports for several ip network cams, that have built in webservers, on this router. I have done this before on my old Linksys router with no problems but the Netgear has me stumped. The only way I can reach any of these devices from the Internet is to map them to port 80. But that limits me to one device, hence the need to forward more ports. All cams have fixed ip addresses so it is not an issue of their ip addresses changing.

My old router (a dlink dir-615) works just fine, but I figured I would upgrade and try to run OpenWRT or DD-WRT so that I could have one VPN for all my devices.
Anyway, I took the router out and followed the instructions (power off modem for at least 1 minute, connect modem to router, router to computer via ethernet, turn on modem first, wait for it to fully boot up, turn on router, wait for it to fully boot up, and then run the setup on routerlogin.net. The router is currently setup and I can connect my computer or iphone to it just fine, but I cannot access the internet. It doesn't make a difference whether I'm connected via ethernet or wifi. Either way, I get a "No Internet Access" message from Windows 7.
I've tried turning everything off and starting again. No luck. When I go back to my dlink router, everything works fine again.
So, in short:
Modem + ethernet = internet
Modem + Netgear router + ethernet = no internet
Modem + Netgear router + wifi = no internet
Modem + Dlink router (wifi...haven't tried ethernet) = internet

I can connect to my LAN, but with local access only. I've been to the mfg's forums and tried their fixes, driver updates, and manual setups- no joy so I've reset to auto defaults. This laptop connects to several other routers wi-fi without problems. The WNDR3700 solved all my previous router problems, was truly plug and play, and may have cured me athsma as well. The event logs show a time-out during the semaphore portion of the log-in.

I have been unable to access my WHS when I recently traveled across the US. I have a Netgear WNDR3700 router. My DSL modem is a DSL-520B. I have AT&T DSL (6 Mbs). I have tried enabling and disabling "remote management", forwarding to ports 80, 443, 3390, and 4125 all with no success. Also, I believe (correct me if I am wrong) the remote management address is incorrectly listed as http://192.168.1.2:8080. I have also turned off USB storage in case of a possible conflict I have read about with port 80.

I have numerous phones and laptops that connect to the router just fine and fastThis ASUS laptop (windows 7) with Centrino N6150 is very slow to validate. At least it appears that's the issue. The icon in the tray starts with a ! in the connection, then in about 45 seconds goes to a blue chase circle, then in about 45 seconds connects.istory. I was getting disconnects from the WIFI router on a continual basis. I decided to put the router back to factory settings, did the pin reset etc, did a full setup and now we have this slow connect issue ALTHOUGH I never get a disconnect if I once get connected. Just seems to take forever to get it to connect.I've looked at conflicting IP's, no avail, seems fine. As mentioned, like the iphones connect almost instantly. The HP laptop connects fast (windows 7) but the asus now isn't happy.

I have had a Netgear WNDR3700 wireless router for over a year now, and have had no problems connecting to wireless devices (currently connects perfectly to: windows 7, OSX, Android, and Meego). I have recently purchased a Sony Bravia NX720, which has a built in wireless card. When I connect the television via LAN to the router the internet works fine, however when I connect via my wifi network (i.e. there is no physical connection between the tv and the router) I get the following message:
Connection Results
Wireless Device On TV: found
Local Access: OK

I have two computers(with problems over 15 that work fine) an All in one Sony that has a qualcom 9285 and a new l521x dell laptop with a dell 1901 (also atheros).I have these issues with the sony for a few years - and just wrote it off as a computer problem - we have had the sony tech come out and replace the entire motherboard, wifi module?what made me link the issue with Atheros and the router was that my new laptop is behaving the same way as the sony. They both show connected to interenet (windows 7 64 bit(sony) and windows 8(dell)) I get an IP address, and I can ping websites. If I click to watch the network traffic (on the local connection status activity) I can see 50,000 bytes received every second I have updated the sonys and dells drivers to the latest one both from sony/dells site and from atheros download site as well - but it doesn't seem to make any difference The router also states its fully up to date

I have a Netgear WNDR3700 v2 that I loaded with dd-wrt (v24-sp2 std). The only real problem that I am having is with the wireless. I can't get anything to connect at 300mbps. Even if I set it to n only it still only connects at 54mbps. Right now I am running it with encrytion off to rule out that causing any problems. and yes it would connect at 300mbps with the stock netgear firmware.

I've been replacing my Netgear WNDR3700 (currently only serving as wired router and gigabit switch) with an Untangle box.Obviously, only the free "Lite" version would be worth it, as the others are priced ridiculously for non business use. I've had a hard time figuring out from their webpage how the features of the "Lite" compare to the others, particularly how Spam Blocker Lite, Web Filter Lite and Virus Blocker Lite compare to the full versions of each.
Is the untangle router any good? How do its management features compare with consumer solutions? The new web caching feature seems really cool too, especially when multiple systems grab the same large updates or download the same steam games, but at $54/year it seems a bit excessively priced for home use, so I'd probably just be sticking with the base free version.

I have Comcast cable and prior to a couple days ago, it has always been smooth @ 36mbps download and 5mbps upload. I have a Netgear WNDR3700 and Motorola 6121 connected to my PC via Ethernet cable. Up until a couple days ago, I've been getting lag spikes where my games would completely freeze for a good 2-3 seconds and resume, as if the entire connection dropped and reconnected. I did a speedtest and I was getting around 4mbps download and 1-2mbps upload with huge fluctuation in speed.
I called Comcast and they said they were seeing a "red" signal error from their end so they sent out a tech to my house. He came over, changed some cables outside because they were corroded and that's about all he did. I tested my connection while he was still there and I was again getting 36mbps download and 5mbps upload. It was a quick 1-2 test so everything seemed normal until I started to see lag in games again.
I am getting the same lag spikes, albeit it's not as bad as before but it's still pretty annoying. Using speedtests, I am still getting 36mbps download but the graphs show that there are inconsistencies where there would be sudden drops in speed and picks back up still to show 36mbps. These drops are what I assume are the lag spikes. The upload is also suffering now, dropping down to 2-3mbps and it takes the test about 20-30seconds to load the upload portion of the test. Even loading web pages, sometimes it locks up for a few seconds longer than it should, which is normally instantaneous.
I have tried connecting my PC directly to the modem to bypass the router and am still getting the same lag, probably a little LESS but still the lag is there. My router is has always been updated to the latest firmware.

I'm going to be moving into a place in the next couple months where I'll have to go wireless on my desktop (until now I've just done Ethernet so I don't even have a wifi card on my desktop). The router/modem aren't anywhere near my bedroom so my gear will be going wireless from now on All my devices are built-in wifi ready but not my desktop.
I would like recommendations as to a rock-solid, reliable, fast and well performing card as I can to make up for no hardwired connection. Especially with BF3 coming out I'm not all that thrilled with being forced into this situation but you gotta do what you gotta do. Anyhow, I'll be bringing my router (Netgear WNDR3700) so I'll have the range and speed from there about as good as I can get, so I'd like a card of equal merit.
One side note...probably not really feasible considering I want speed and performance as a priority, but I would love a card (if possible) without bullshit antennas sticking out of the case, or with external antennas you have to set up on your desk. I will go that route if I have to but man that is an aesthetic nightmare, IMO. The ones that stick out of the back of the case are the worst looking for me just as a caveat.

I just ran Cat6 from my WNDR3700 to a netgear NeoTV550. WNDR is in the computer room and the Neo is in the living room. Cat6 had to be fished downstairs, around the bathroom wall and over the solid plaster ceiling. Fun times! My question is, should I add a switch to the connection on the far end, essentially creating a trunk sans dot1.q tagging and then plug the Neo in? Or should I just plug directly into the Neo?

I have basically the following setup: It's a home network, running with a Netgear WNDR3700 wireless router.
Wireless Devices on the Network:
Google Nexus One: 802.11 b/g/n
iPhone (Original): 802.11 b/g
Main Workstation Laptop: 802.11 a/b/g
"Beater/Other" Laptop: 802.11g b/g
Ethernetted devices on the network:
Logitech Revue: CAT-5e
I'm running both the 2.4 GHz and the 5.0 GHz networks over the same SSID. The goal, obviously, is to get everything over to N if possible. I've heard that wireless N has much better signal and transfer rates, is this true? Also, is running the two different frequencies with the same SSID problematic? It's kind of strange, because my Nexus One is having a difficult time staying connected to the network in my office while the main workstation laptop in the same room is getting a much better signal.
[Code]....
What's interesting is that both are running on the 2.4 GHz networks, essentially both not on the wireless n network, which kind of defeats the whole purpose of things. Is it bad to run both the 2.4 and 5.0 GHz networks with the same SSID? If using a network repeater, is it bad to rebroadcast the original network with the same SSID as the source network? It seems that the 5.0 GHz network is getting "clobbered" by the 2.4 GHz network. Is it really necessary for me to broadcast using different SSIDs?

i set-up the D-LINK DNS 323 NAS unit with RAID 1 (dual 2-terabyte 5400 rpm drives)
it works, but it is slow in copying files between my computer and it (8 minutes to copy 7.94 gig file between NAS and my PC via wire).
i am using netgear WNDR3700 gigabit router. replaced the network wires to the latest spec, and my computer has realtek PCIe GBE network adapter.
this is looking more and more like the NAS RAID 1 is the bottleneck.. possibly 7200 RPM drives would have kicked more ass?

I am trying to configure a 3300 Wireless Print Adapter with a NET GEAR WNDR3700 Wireless N Router. During the Configuration if I have no security set up on my network, the 3300 establishes a connection. If I however, turn any form of security on ( WEP, WPA-PSK [TKIP, WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES] ), the Connection fails. No security is not an option.
This happened while switching routers. The 3300 worked fine on my D-Link Wireless G router (WEP). I was wondering how to resolve it.?

I have ASA5505 as my main router (192.168.15.1) and it currently it also serves as DHCP server. I have a WNDR3700 (192.168.15.2) which work as an access point and it provide wireless access for wireless devices. I have few dhcp clients where i can't setup static IP, and i want to restrict them to use static IP through MAC reservation.
1. Make ASA5505 to do the MAC reservation f, which will be easy setup for me. But as per my search its not possible.
2. Disable dhcp on ASA and enable dhcp on my WNDR3700. i tired this and dhcp clients are getting IP from wndr3700, but the problem is dhcp clients gateway defaults to 192.168.15.2 (as well as dns) and therefore no internet connection.

I use Comcast cable as my ISP. My cable modem is located downstairs in my house. The cable modem has an Ethernet cable connected to port in a wall right next to it. In another room in my house I have an Ethernet port in the wall that goes to my wireless router. Connected to my WNDR3700v3 is a Synology DS213. When I am on my wireless network my computer can see it. When I use a Ethernet port in another area of my house I cannot see it.There is a network switch that is located elsewhere in the house. A cable modem connects to that network switch. A Ethernet cable comes out of the switch to a port that then connects to the other ports in the house. When I am connected via the wireless network my router IP address is the same as when I am connected via a wire. What can I do so that when I am either on my wireless or wired network I can see the DS213?

In the settings, there is a spot in which you can set the range of IPs to assign to connected computers and other devices. This particular option is available under the "LAN" options. What I am seeing is that the only IP that is assigned within the range is the one and only device hardwired to the router. Everything else is being assigned IP addresses outside of the range. Am I missing something? I was under the assumption that any IP addresses assigned dynamically would be within the range whether they were wired or wireless

After buying a new WNDR370. Sporadically and seemingly without any cause my internet will stop working. Diagnostic will always report it as "DNS Server is not responding." I've also discovered that if I enter my router settings and even just switch the DNS settings from Auto to manual or vice versa the problem corrects itself instantly-then next time it happens I just need to do it again.
I've already tried resetting my entire network and rebuilding the recommended way. Modem, Router, then computers-connecting each only after the prior has finished initializing. Hasn't worked though.
Currently I have my main rig connected directly to the modem to try and find out if I experience the problem at all this way, this is a pain in the ass though, and I don't know when long enough is long enough as the issue is completely random and simply just may not happen.

My network routing (both routers are consumer-grade NETGEAR WNDR3700) is like this:
Modem ==> Router 1 ==> Router 2 WAN Port
I have Router 1 set to DHCP the entire home network. I want Router 2 to section off a web server from the home network in case it gets compromised, but I want computers on the home network to be able to administer the web server.
As it stands, the web server can access PCs on Router 1, and not vice-versa. In effect, I want this to be reversed. Can this be done without changing the physical configuration?
All right, I bit the bullet and switched the router chain so Router 2 comes before Router 1. Set up was so easy and though it's not perfect, it's all ready!

I've been playing with this setup for over a month with no real success. I'm trying to use the DAP-1522 as a wireless bridge to provide connectivity to my entertainment center which consist of a PS3, Directv DVR and Internet ready TV. I tried the setup as described in the manual, but not getting to the internet. Initially I was able to connect the 1522 as a bridge, but the connection kept dropping, especially anytime I actually used the internet (downloading a VOD movie). While troubleshooting the dropping issue, I changed all the 1522 settings and now it cannot access the internet at all through. The WNDR3700 is routing my home network fine...it is setup on the 192.168.1.x address space. I understand the 1522 came setup for 192.168.0.x, is the 192.168.1.x/192.168.0.x thing jacking things up? I initially had the 1522 setup with the 192.168.1.x IP from my home network and the gateway set to my WNDR3700 (192.168.1.1)...should it be on the 192.168.0.x? I have updated the firmware to 1.31.
