my dell notebook that has windows 7 starter keeps losing internet connection and saying no connection available but my home computer still has the internet connection. I have a Netgear router and my home service is through comcast.
View 3 RepliesI have a Netgear DGN2200 router/modem and have been having this problem for a while now. Every so often the internet will cut out for roughly 30-60 seconds. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to the connection losses and they can happen at any time in the day (overall it seems to occur every hour and a half, although it can vary). When the internet connection is lost, the little "!" triangle appears at the bottom right. I still have wireless access to the router itself. It also occurs on both my wired computer and the wireless computer. On the Netgear itself, the internet light will either flash rapidly green, or sometimes turn red for a short while. The Netgear is plugged via a splitter into the telephone socket. the old neatgear we had did the exact same thing before it finally died and no longer worked at all. Hence why we replaced it with this one. I also rang AOL about the problem, who said that there may be a problem with the line and that we should ring BT about it. We had the line checked and apparently the line was fine and was not the cause of the problem. Things I have tried include changing the router channel and I have tried changing the splitter in case that was faulty. Do you think it could be a DSL problem on AOL's end? It's possible that the drops coincided with a free upgrade they gave us for faster internet, although time-wise I'm not entirely sure.

Every time I open up a browser, EI or Firefox, it says that it cannot display the webpage etc. The weird thing is however that the connection bar is showing full connection to the wireless internet! The connection should be up and running, but I can't get anything on any browser.I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for the network cards, both wireless and ethernet, but no luck. I don't what to do, as I'm no expert on these computer matters.Oh yeah, another weird thing: this laptop offers some kind of program before Windows loads, where you can perform basic stuff like connect to the internet, check your mail etc. Here I can connect via the wireless network! But not in Windows when I load it up.

I have tried to use use both wireless dongle and cable to connect to ADSL router but no luck with both. I have check for spyware etc but nothing found. I get a cross on my network connectivity icon in network connections with control panel. I am using Windows xp xp2 patch , drivers and patches are upto date. I keep losing the internet connection on my Toshiba Laptop (Windows 7). My desktop maintains a full connection but the laptop keeps saying "No Internet" despite the wifi network remaining at full strength.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows XP Laptop and an Windows 7 Starter Netbook. I have recently changed internet provider, returned the previous (Netgear) router and configured a new (D Link) router. Prior to the change of internet provider, both laptops could connect wirelessly without issues.After installing the new router provided by new internet provider, my Windows XP laptop can connect to the internet wirelessly without problems, the signal is strong and the speeds decent. My Windows 7 Netbook can connect to the network and to the internet, however, the speed on it is so low that pages do not load at all. Whilst it remains connected (the connection does not drop), it does not display web pages. Occasionally it displays a page or two, and it seems the problem is fixed, but this lasts no longer than a few minutes, after which it starts displaying "white" pages again. When the connection to the router is wired, the problem disappears and I can access the internet and the pages load well, so the problems is strictly a Wi Fi connectivity issue.
The Windows 7 Starter Netbook that has this problem at home, connects to every single other network I have had the chance to test it on (at work, at internet cafes, at my parents, at my sisters) and it also used to work flawlessly with my home network before I changed internet provider. On all other networks, it works really well.The new (D Link) router seems to work, otherwise my Windows XP laptop would also be having problems... but it doesn't.So both the new (D Link) router and my Windows 7 Starter Netbook work well separately. They just don't work together!I have tried a number of things: restarting the Netbook, restarting the router, re-installing Windows 7 Starter completely, disabling the network adapter and re-enabling it, updating the network driver, unprotecting the network completely, disabling Windows Firewall, disabling antivirus,changing the channels on the router, placing quartz crystals next to both devices and chanting. Below, I am pasting IP Config files showing the details of the settings in both devices (the one that works and the one that doesn't). As far as settings on the router is concerned, I have checked that they are the basic default ones that technical support are recommending.

I have a Sony VAIO desktop, 5 years old running windows XP. Recently, I started getting ntoskrnl32 missing and refused to boot. My local computer guy said that it is a hard disk problem and ended up putting new hard disks and reinstalled XP. But I keep internet connection after about 5-10 minutes. If I disable and enable "Local Area Connection" it works for sometime and stops again. I have a Cisco wireless router that I use. I use that to browse with my iPhone as well.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI reformatted my HDD (needed to do that anyway) and re-installed Windows 7 and all drivers (Chipset 1st) from my Dell CD after messing up a recovery test.
Everything seemed fine. But now, when I am surfing the Internet, I sometimes lose the connection. The icon in the Taskbar has a yellow exclamation point. (This does not happen in Slackware on the same machine, just in Windows 7.)
The first time this happened, I couldn't ping my router, so I checked all cables, cable modem, and router. But they were all fine and my other (really old desktop running Puppy Linux) was still connected fine and could surf to new web pages.
I did "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew" on the Dell in Windows 7 and the NIC got the correct IP address and gateway. Now I could ping the router, but I could not ping the Internet, which didn't make any sense, since the other computer was accessing the Internet just fine on the same router! (No IP address confilict exists, and gateway was correct on both machines.) I tried updating the driver, but no new drivers were found. This first time, the issue was resolved by rebooting Windows 7. I also unchecked the setting to turn off the NIC to save power. (I just checked the USB hubs per another post, and it's also unchecked.)
The second time this happened, "ipconfig /renew" failed! I set everything manually (including DNS servers), and on reboot, it still wasn't working. I did a complete shutdown of the computer and startup, now it works again.
So here I am looking for a new driver (64-bit, signed). Not only is there not a new driver...they don't even list the current driver! The only one listed is from March 2010, my driver is June 2011. Current driver is version 7.46.610.2011. Where is there a newer Realtek driver? And why are this things so buggy more than a year after 7 came out, especially if these are supposedly signed by Microsoft?
Currently using a netgear WG602 wireless router which i use to connect to my 2nd PC and Iphone, with the Netgear router running from my main PC.I have recently been having trouble with my 2nd PC ad Iphone randomly losing connection and the only way for the connection to be reastablished is to reboot the wireless router. Once rebooted i am able to connect again to the internet with no problems, interestingly enough my main PC never loses connection. Also sometimes when i lose my connection and reboot the wireless router i will have a IP conflict pop up on my 2nd PC however i would i say i get this once in every 10 dissconects and not all the time. Sometimes i won't dissconect at all in a day but sometimes i may dissconect 5-6 times.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI currently have a Netgear dgn2200 n300 wireless router (acts as a modem, you know all in one thing), and I have configured the settings on it so I can have an open nat type/port forwarded for gaming and so on. I have my xbox and the desktop connected to it via ethernet and my ipod and laptop connected wireless.
The problem is that the internet just drops out for a couple of mins every hour or so whether I or whoever is on it or not. I have tried changing the cables and filter for the phone line but nothing has seemed to work. Occasionally when the internet drops out it doesn't come back on so I have to unplug the router and so on to get it to work.
It's just starting to get annoying getting disconnected so often especially when the router cost like $200 and is supposed to be good for gaming and stuff, and I can't seem to find out why or isolate the problem. My internet download speed is fairly quick (I can get 1.5mb/s say when downloading a movie/hd youtube) and I get 70 GB a month.
this is crazy - when i came back from out of town i tried to see if my problem still existed. it did - the win 7 laptop still could not "see" the win xp computers on the home network but all of the xp computers could see the win 7 laptop. just before sending this reply, i tried it "one more time". wa-lah, the laptop can see the other computers. this happened once before, it was seeing them, i had to leave the system and come back the next day - when i came back, the problem had returned. i did notice when i came back from out of town, my power had gone off and came back on- but this was b4 i checked it only to find the problem was still there, as just mentioned, i tried it just b4 writing this reply and the problem was no longer there. i just rebooted the laptop and as we speak, i can see all 3 of the xp computers from the win 7 laptop. i really can't make any sense out of what's going on but am beginning to think its in the modem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy internet service provider is Optimum Online which is cable. I'm using the Motorola SBV5120 Modem that Optimum supplied, with the Asus RT-N66R Router. I had been using the Netgear WNR2000 until today, and I was fed up with the disconnecting issues.
Although I got the new router, the disconnecting issue is still there. I have a PS3 and a PC connected via Ethernet, and 2 MacBooks, 2 iPads and 4 smartphones connected via wireless, when all of the family members are home. I get disconnected from both wireless and wired when I do have this problem.
Is the number of devices attached to the router a problem? My internet doesn't just slow down, the connection gets lost.
I have to reboot my router a couple of times per day because I lose WAN access. This occurs with both the wireless and ethernet connections. Basically, I see that I'm connected to the router, but have a self-assigned IP. Power cycling the router does the trick. I never had this problem before, so I'm wondering what's up. The firmware has long been up to date. Router version is 8.0.

I have a ADSL connection to the internet, last router I had did not have the same issue. I also have a Cisco ASA 5505 for work connected to the ADSL modem and is not experiencing any disconnect issues. All computers connected to the router is losing internet connection, local lan keeps working. The internet connection gets back again after a 10-15 minutes or when resetting / turning off the router.
I have tried the following;
Changed ethernet cables
Disconnected the ASA 5505
Turned off wireless
Upgraded the firmware
Reseted to factory settings
Router config and i just follow the instructions anyway i just bought this router cuz the old one failed and it was installed ok with internet connection and everything but when i open a program like bittorrent azureus the internet connection dies, it happens on my laptop and mac they both seem ok but when i open that program internet connection disappears

Specifically the little wireless icon in the bottom right of my windows 7 display gets a yellow exclamation mark for about 10-30 seconds then recconects. Its quite annoying and seems to be happening more often now. I have a strange setup on the router, i think its running in bridge mode or something and the modem is doing the actual routing.

I have this problem of loosing internet connection every 1-2 min. I ping Google and I have a lots of Requested timed out about 7-8 of those then I have a reply for 30 sec than it starts again "...timed out"t first I thought it was a problem from my ISP than I called them they checked and it seems that everything it's OK and their behalf. I keep calling them for this problem and they came changed the cable and the router but the problem keeps going.I've had the same ISP for over 2 years now and I didn't have any problem but has started about 1 month ago. At first I was using a TP-LINK 54M Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router connected throught Poppe with a username. I thought it was that the modem had the problem but the ISP brought a new modem BILLION and the problem keeps going. I've tried in two different PC's same problem.

I called my internet provider to come fix the problem and my internet was working PERFECTLY. Until, it started to mess up again. I don't know, what's wrong with it AT all. The Linksys box is working fine, the ROUTER is working BUT, my internet keeps dropping and takes HOURS upon HOURS to come back on, UNTIL I reset the Linksys box. Then it stays on for a bit. A few hours or a few minutes then suddenly, "No internet access."
