I'm setting up a Cisco 3750 layer 3 switch with several vlans. I thought enabling routing would route between the vlans, but no such luck.What I want is to share the internet access of vlan 100 with the other vlans/ip-nets.How can I do that?

I've created a scenario using a 3750 cisco as core switch ad other 6 switch model 2900 in access level.my problem is this, the router is not a cisco router, and this router is not able to make NAT on more than one subnet.Into the core switch I've created 4 VLAN and I must to give internet access to 3 of them, 192.168.0.0/24 (vlan1), 172.16.0.0/24 (vlan2), 172.17.0.0/24 (vlan3).I've connected the switch to router via  gigabit ethernet 0/1 and I've assigned to this interface ip address 192.168.10.2, the router ip address is 192.168.10.1, Switch ip default-gateway is router ip address 192.168.10.1, ip default route is 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.10.1 I've enabled ip routing feature and I've set no switchport feature to interface gigabit ethernet 0/1.From core switch I can ping router ip address but I can't make it from all other user, and the users not able to have internet access.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 - Setup A Switch Port For 2 Vlans

I'm trying to setup a port on a catalyst 3750 so it will pass traffic for 2 vlans. It connects to a (watchguard) firewall which I've configured with a primary IP (for vlan 27) and a secondary IP (for vlan 29).
 
However I can't seem to find the correct commands to enter on the cisco switch port (I've tried a variety).
 
FYI the current configuration is...
interface FastEthernet1/0/38
description ## Connection to WG vlan27 and vlan 29 ##
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Setting MTU On A 3750 Switch?

The question is: Will a 3750 switch route Jumbo frame sizes (e.g. 9000 MTU)?
 
We know that we can change the System MTU to 9000, and someone on a previous thread said that we can change the Routing MTU to 9000 as well, although I couldn't figure out how to do that.  However, regardless of how we configure the System MTU and Routing MTU, I don't think we're able to adjust the MTU on L3 VLAN interfaces, so if we want to actually "route" between VLANs on the switch, we're limited to 1500 MTU.
 
Our situation is that we have a customer connecting to our 3750 switch, and this customer wants to use Jumbo frames.  The customer connects to our 3750 switch via their own VLAN, with their own L3 VLAN interface configured on the switch.  The customer will point their traffic towards the L3 VLAN interface, then we want to route them onto another VLAN, via a different L3 VLAN interface, before forwarding their traffic.  Because of the limitations noted above, specificially regarding the routing between these VLANs via L3 interfaces, I do not think we'll be able to support 9000 MTU frames on this 3750 switch.  I think the L3 VLAN interfaces will limit us to 1500 MTU, regardless of what we configured via the global System MTU and Routing MTU settings.

Cisco WAN :: Setup 3550 Layer 3 Switch To Do Hand Out Dhcp Addresses For Different Vlans?

I am trying to setup my 3550 layer 3 switch to do hand out dhcp addresses for different vlans.  It is connected to my router address 192.168.1.1.  I setup a new vlan 3 and the dhcp pool.. The client gets a 192.168.3.2 address but am not able to ping the router and other clients and get out to the internet. 

Here is the config that I have.  I deleted the other ports because I am not using them.  The vlan 3 client is on port fast Ethernet 0/17 and the router is connected to the fastethernet 0/1.

I am migrating an a group of workstations that run a fire system from one software to another. The current workstations run the following info:123.123.123.xxx 255.255.255.0The new workstations run:100.100.100.xxx 255.255.255.0There is a central switch location using a GE-DSG-244 Layer 2+ Managed switch. There are two remote location using GE-DS-82 Managed Switches.The two networks must remain isolated, yet use the same fiber communications. The central switch connects to the two location using MM Fiber. From my research I believe I need to use the 802.1q standard to allow port trunking between the two switches.

I just inherited a network and feel like.I am missing something. We use ATT&T Opt-E-Man which limits the MAC address to 50 for the connection or you have to pay.Hence the routing VLAN is the only access across the two sites.I have a VoIP vendor who insists on using the same VLAN for all sites. Upon exam the VLAN is at the remote site but it does not work.

A CISCO 3750-X stack with several VLANs  and many ACLs applied to the virtual interfaces. Intervlan routing is on. Connected to this stack are VMware hosts and with about 500 VMs.We started using the ACLs to allow connectivity between VLANs to specific hosts and it has grown to thousands of lines. I personally do not think this is good for the switch and believe the switch was not intended to be used for that security feature.

- Does it make it sense to add an "internal firewall" between the CORE ROUTER AND THE 3750-X SWITCH STACK ?

- Do you recommend any other way?

- Any recommended CISCO resource/white paper to read about best practice

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750-X OOB Management With IP Base And Routed Access Layer

I've got a bunch of 3750-X switches all running IP Base and acting as a routed access layer. They run OSPF in a totally stubby area with the distribution layer (Nexus 7K) as the ABR. We also have a physically separate management network into which the fa0 management interface of the 3750-X is connected. The management network itself runs OSPF and has multiple subnets and external access.
 
On the 3750-X, I'd ideally like to be able to run some sort of separate OSPF process for the management network or at the very least have a static default route for management traffic pointing out the fa0 interface, but clearly not have it interfere with the main default route for data traffic coming from the N7K ABR. Normally I'd just create a management VRF, sling the fa0 interface into it and run a separate OSPF process in that VRF. The problem is you can't create VRFs in IP Base! Surely there must be a way to do this? Cisco don't really expect customers to upgrade to IP Services just to have a working OOB Management network, do they?!

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 - Rapid Spanning Tree In Access Layer?

My colleague and I have been having a discussion about using rapid spanning tree in the access layer.  Most of our infrastructure has been migrated to a routed access layer with 3750s.
 
The idea was brought up to configure the switches with rapid PVST.  On the surface, it seems like a better idea, faster convergence, in the event that spanning tree ends up being used for some reason.  My colleague prefers sticking with standard PVST.  His argument is that, in the event of a layer 2 loop, some consumer-level switches filter out BPDUs and if the control plane is overwhelmed, the shorter timers of rapid PVST just puts that much more of a burden on the CPU trying to regain control, whereas with standard PVST it will have around 20 seconds before it starts to engage.  (It may still be overwhelmed, but the longer timer delays the additional burden.)  He says he's seen this problem with rapid PVST and that his opinion is backed up by our Cisco rep.  (I haven't spoken to him yet.)
 
In our model, it should be very rare -- pretty much never -- that we would layer 2 span another switch off of our access stack.
 
One suggestion I saw is to use BPDU Guard, which is a good suggestion as well.
 
But we have had experiences with overloading the control plane on a 3750.  I believe that concern is valid.  If the CPU can't service spanning tree. But I'm interested in hearing about other experiences people have had in terms of rapid spanning tree in the access layer, end users plugging in unauthorized devices and creating loops, and the effects when using rapid spanning tree vs standard spanning tree.

I have recently purchased 2 SG 300 switches, 1 x SG 300 52 & 1 x SG 300 10, and I am hoping getting the following set-up working.To assist I have drawn the following simple network diagram (below) which hopefully makes it a little clearer what I am trying to do:I have 2 companies occupying a single office with the requirement to share printers/devices etc... so basically I am looking to set-up 2 VLANS (say VLAN 10 & VLAN 20) with inter-vlan routing. To add a little complexity the main comms area is located in the basement of the building, this houses the 2 DSL routers and 2 Servers, one for each company. I am proposing putting the SG 300 10 port switch in here and then use the 3 uplinks I have been given to connect back to the SG 300 52 which is in a patch cabinent 2 floors up. I want to use 2 uplinks (in a LAG) for Company A and 1 uplink for Company B. FYI. DHCP is being served out by each respective router.

vlan 10 ports 1-10
vlan 21 ports 11-20
vlan 30 port 21-30
vlan 40 ports 31-40
default vlan should be vlan 21

I have the servers, switch and router connected to vlan 21.  Vlan 21 works great I can browse the internet, but I cannot ping any other vlans. router is connected to fa0/19

I have a stacked Cisco Catalyst 3750 configuration that currently has one V LAN configured. VLAN 192 - 10.192.0.0/16
 
The Catalyst has an ip on this range of 10.192.0.1. I would like to configured a few more V LAN's to be able to run some more network ranges through this device. Would it be a case of just adding the V LAN's to the master and then configuring an IP for each V LAN within the inter-v lan routing section? Some V LAN's will require access to each other but not all.

I created a lab and I have a few issues. One with a layer 3 switch and another with a ASA 5550.
 
1. Layer 3 switch: I have created multiple Vlans and I am able to route between them. I can ping the switch IP but not the default gateway to the ASA. I did a tracert of the default gateway of the ASA and once I am past the Vlan gateway it fails.
 
2. On the ASA 5550 I created the Vlans on sub-interfaces but still cannot get to the internet. ASA config is below the switch config.

I am tryingto add a new VLAN on my C3560E Layer 3 switch for administration purpose.My goal is to make this VLAN for administration only and to let the administrators from 172.17.1.1 connect to any host of the internal network 172.16.0.0 plus exit to the internet via the default gateway 172.16.1.245.
 
Here an extract of what done so far:

spanning-tree extend system-id
vlan internal allocation policy ascending

What happened is that:
1. The host connected to Vlan30 can correctly ping the interface it is connected to.
2, The internal network can access the internet
3. The host connected to VLAN30 cannot access the internet and cannot connect to any internal server.
 
Do I have to add a static route? This is a production envuironment and it is my first experiment with a layer3 switching in production, so I cannot mistake

I have to put an ACL Firewall in front of a public IP range.There's no routing so I want to do it with a transparent layer 2 Firewall. I found this document which descibes exactly that feature I need: [URL]
 
It seems to be a feature introduced in IOS 12.3.
 
My Questions:
 
1.) is it possible use this transparent firewall feature with the 3750 Switch instead of a "normal" IOS-Based router?

2.) I've seen there is no IOS 12.3 for the 3750 but rather 12.2 (currently installed) or 15.0.1. Is this Feature included in 15.0.1?
 
If the feature described above is not available, is there any other way to achieve my goal?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 DHCP In Layer 3 Switch

I have made a topology by using one 3560 switch and 2 2950 switches. I have also made 2 vlans name Clients and other Servers and vlan 1 is for anagement purposes. The left 2950 switch is for clients and the right is for servers. Clients is vlan 2 and servers is vlan3 . Now what i want is that my dhcp is should assign ips to clients in vlans 2 provided that servers are in vlan 3. I am also using a border router and i have introduced a default route on the 3560 to the border router.
 
Now when i assign static ips to my clients pc and server dhcp then i can ping between vlans but when i try to assign ip through dhcp then it wont work. Also the default route on the switch to the border router doesnt seem to work. I can ping only the border router when i put a default route on the border router instead of the 3560 switch.

is it possible to run a Catalyst 4500 as pure Layer 2 Switch, i.e. disabling "ip routing", but still managing the switch via Fa1, i.e. the defautl mgmtVrf vrf ?I tried the following:

I was not able to reach the Switch even from the same subnet. Only after enabling ip routing I could manage the Switch. I haven't found any command to set ip default-gateway for a vrf. Any workaround to keep routing disabled, but still manageable via VRF?
