Is there a way to hardwire that laptop to the desktop, so i can share files between those two computers, while ALSO keeping my desktop connected to my office network?Since it's vista home, I can't connect the laptop to our network, since it can only connect in workgroups, not networks. But if I'm just able to just use the laptop, create files, and then either save them to a shared folder with my desktop or just save them to the desktop with a switch or something, it wouldn't be a problem that my laptop can't connect to the network.

It was my understanding that the computers on the second router would not be visible to computers on the first router, the wireless one. My assumption was that this would make it more difficult for someone who got access to the wireless router to also access those computers on the second router.

I go into setup of the router and see where one can add info but am at a loss what to enter. I tried, merely by guessing, applied the info, and screwed up my networking. I couldn't even get into my router to revert back, cause i couldn't get on line...finally i reset manually my router and all is well again, except when i see a list of nearby network users, mine is the only one that says unsecured.

I realized as I was writing this that the reason i could not connect to my server computer via the Hamachi address was because my ipad is not connected to the Hamchi network. When i try to connect via the ip address i get from whatsmyip.org i simply get an error. All computers are hooked up by cable.I have tried a friends advice to plug in the exact IP address of the desktop (and vice versa on the netbook) but still the netbook cat find the desktop nor can the desktop find the netbook. I have a Thomson TG585 v8 router that my laptop, iPad and iPhone connect to no problem but my iPad/iPhone won't talk to my laptop.. we have just done 2 upgrades on our asa 5510...
1. we upgraded our 5510 ASA firmware from 6.21 to 6.41
2. we also upgraded to the latest csd package (we have upgraded from 3.5.841 to 3.5.2008)
after 2 reloads, it seems that all my prelogin policies are gone ,i try enable / disable CSD and it just don't go back...i only have the default policy
what can i do to bring them back ?

I do not want move my hard drive to where my net gear router is, so I need to get another router, i am looking at a Belkin router so that I can make my hard drive wireless (This is the only reason for the router, it will not be used for internet) so I can keep my hard drive in the same place.

I can't run a cable from the router to the desktop because of distance?on [URL], my laptop gets around 45 Mbps download rate and 5 Mbps upload rate while my desktop would get about 1 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload, while both computers are at the same exact location. I have tried using two wireless LAN cards for my desktop in the past and they did not give me good internet at all. I am now using a NETGEAR WNDA3100v2 USB Adapter and it gives an extremely weak signal as well. I have tried configuring it and the router a number of times and nothing significantly changed the signal. Since all of these devices have failed to give me a good signal?
View 4 Replies View RelatedOne moment the laptop was using the wireless connection from the router in our house and the next it lost internet access and then wasn't able to recognize the SSID or connection at all on the available wireless connections. We have reset the router and restarted the laptop countless times yet the only internet access we have is on the computer the router is hooked up to.The wireless connection works neither on the laptop nor the Wii, both previously works merely hours ago and with no problems until now.We assume there is an issue with the router itself, whether it be a loose ethernet cord (which only faintly can be moved in its place).It's almost as if the router is stopping them (Wii, and laptop) from having access. When we explore the wireless internet properties on the laptop, it shows the wireless connection, yet only there and doesn't give access to it.
