Routers / Switches :: Options To Get Internet On Laptop

Currently i have my wired router connected to my modem, with three desktops connected to it. I just purchased a laptop, and would like to be able to get internet on it, my question is what are my options to get internet on my laptop [wireless] yet still keep the wired connections on the desktops as is? And if thats not an option what would be the easiest solution?My laptop has a built in built-in LAN (802.11n), built-in 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet LAN with RJ-45 connector for quick and easy wired Web connection.

i am trying to hook up a laptop to internet that is over ten years old. when i try to set up a wireless network it say there's no dial tone. also when i start it up it says "Network Wireless Update, Router is unavailable". i was going to try an Ethernet cord but there is no Ethernet port on the laptop. what do i do?

I have a motorola usb modem which is connected to my laptop and i have shared the connection and have an ethernet cable from laptop to wireless modem (TP-LINK) such that other wifi enabled devices can connect to it.Now we have electricity blackouts and when that happens my wireless router gets turned off. Internet on the laptop is working fine, now when the electricity comes back and the wireless router is on, the net does not work on the other wifi devices and only my laptop (as its directly connected to the modem).I have to reboot my laptop for the shared connection to work.

I am looking for a how to configure a DHCP server for a Cisco SMB 300 series switch to obtain an automatic configuration. Currently i am using a Cisco 1800 router as my DHCP server and the DHCP pool serving the 300 series switch is configured as follows.
ip dhcp pool Cisco_SMB_300
network 192.168.0.0 255.255.255.0
default-router 192.168.0.1

Looking at pcaps, I don't even see a tftp request going the server after the switch obtains an IP via DHCP. The config file format is exactly as obtained from the download backup section (pretty sure its not the issue since i don't see a download attempt). Also, the SMB switch is running the latest firmware image (1.1.1.8)
Looking though the admin guide i did not see specifics on how the DHCP server was to be configure for the auto configuration feature to work.

I have a laptop connected to a net gear wireless router (for internet), but I am very close to buying a Belkin network USB hub to make my hard drive wireless, but this requires a router. I do not want move my hard drive to where my net gear router is, so I need to get another router, i am looking at a Belkin router so that I can make my hard drive wireless (This is the only reason for the router, it will not be used for internet) so I can keep my hard drive in the same place.

I have 2 Catalyst 2960S (24 ports and 48 ports). Can I stack them using the Uplink connection instead of the stack modules. I know Stack module is the best option but it is kind of expensives (half price of the 24 ports switch) and I only need to stack no more then 2 switches.

I have an older Dell laptop (Inspiron 4150: 10+ years old) and it has an onboard 3com 10/100 ethernet adapter. I recently switched to a Doccis 3.0 modem from Comcast and the laptop doesn't seem to get along with it too well. Are there any options for me to be able to get a Gigabit ethernet adapter for this older laptop? As far as the expansion slots go, the laptop has a Cardbus controller (Texas Instruements 1420 Cardbus controller) and as far as the PC Card connectors go, it has 2(supports 2 Type I or II cards or 1 Type III card with the PCMCIA being 16 bits and the Cardbus being 32 bits).
Is there such thing as a Gigabit ethernet pc card that this laptop would support? If not, what other options are there?

What are the options avilable to add a cat3560 g switch to a stack of 3750x switches.?is there a connector avilable ?or is it possible to trunk via fiber ? cat 3560 has 4 sfps and 224 10/100/1000 ports with poe. cat 3750 stack has a 10 gb up link . What are the possible options?

WS- C3750X-12S-S are running c3750e-universalk9-mz.122-58.SE2 whereas WS-C3750X-48T-L are running c3750e-universalk9-mz.122-55.SE3.I have got a couple of queries as under:What are the options to achieve putting all these 4 switches into a single stack? I just bought a sony vaio laptop and I can't connect to the wireless network, it appears back and forward a message saying that the adapter is not found and then it says it is working and then it is not found again and so no.. I have a desktop connected to our work network. It's running XP Pro. I also have a laptop running vista home. Is there a way to hardwire that laptop to the desktop, so i can share files between those two computers, while ALSO keeping my desktop connected to my office network?Since it's vista home, I can't connect the laptop to our network, since it can only connect in workgroups, not networks. But if I'm just able to just use the laptop, create files, and then either save them to a shared folder with my desktop or just save them to the desktop with a switch or something, it wouldn't be a problem that my laptop can't connect to the network.

I have two routers (set up in two countries). I am using PPPOE to connect between the two routers. I use a laptop connected to my home network using router 1 to access the internet using router 2. i cannot set this up. I use Dlink routers. I tried giving the "default gateway" as router 2's IP address.

The wireless router PW has been changed, I got the new one correct but upon entering it on my laptop it goes around circle showing,"Wireless network detected" and then,"Unable to connect to preferred wireless network"It never works. I brought a friend's computer home, thinking I could solve her problem but I'm at my wit's end. I cannot open Internet Explorer and Internet Options does not open from Control Panel. I followed other suggestions I found on your forum and on the net but nothing works. I cannot access the internet in any way (on that computer) and therefore cannot even supply you with a HiJack file. I tried several restore points and the only malware pgm on that computer is MalmareBytes (which found nothing). I cannot even run a anti-virus scan because that is no longer running - which is the reason I brougth her computer to my house in the first place. After several attempts of trying to open IE some times it stays open for a few seconds but most times it just flashes, then closes.

ISP has recently announced that they are going to start charging $1 for every GB that their customers go over their monthly limit. i have a 100GB/mo package and i figure that's sufficient for my habits which consist of approx 40GB of torrents, a bit of skyping, bit of browsing, etc. my ISP makes usage graphs available online, when i checked earlier last month to confirm i'm staying under my 100GB limit the graphs said over the past 12 months the highest i topped was 90GB, usually in the 70's. pretty much what i expected. but when i check their usage graphs again recently it says i've been using over 400GB for the past 3 months straight (as far back as the new graphs go). i call BS and find it very suspicious that my internet usage magically quadruples the same time my ISP wants to start charging for overusage, especially retro-active.
anyhoo, i want to somehow monitor my internet traffic usage independently but i'm not sure the best way to go about it.my home network is the typical modem -> router -> LAN.my router is a new netgear wndr3700, it has a traffic meter built in, but considering it's only forms of notification is cutting the internet off altogether or changing a green blinking LED to and orange blinking LED when the defined limit is reached, it's kinda useless. i just got it a couple months ago too, so buying a new router with better traffic monitoring isn't an option.i could put a net meter on each and every computer i have, then sum up their usage stats, but that would be a pain in the ass and wouldn't take my PS3 or WDTV media player into account, as little as they're used online.my prefered solution is to use an old laptop i hardly touch anymore and set it up as a gateway and share the internet connection or make it a proxy server. that way i could set up a net meter on just the one NIC on that to track my internet usage. modem -> laptop -> router -> LAN. the problem i have hear is forwarding ports from one NIC to the other so they can then get ditributed by the router, never tried this before, not sure how to go about it. right now it has XP home, but i can put 7 on it if that's better to work with.

How do i connect two internet routers to one IP address range?I currently have one broadband router connected on 172.16.0.3 subnet 255.255.0.0, I have a second line which is a copper ethernet EFM 2Mb line connected using a Cisco 1800 router configured on 172.16.0.254 subnet 255.255.255.0, no DHCP is configured on either router. the dhcp is provided by a windows 2003 server on our LAN which is also configured on the same LAN IP range. if i connect the Cisco router into the same switch as the broadband router my network devices stop working and dont respond.
If i check the broadband router it shows all the connections to it as having the same MAC address as the Cisco router?? if i disconnect the Cisco router everything returns back to normal and works perfectly.What I want to achieve is to be able to run both routers on the same LAN to provide internet access by configuring the pc's to route through a specific router. the DHCP I want to stay routed through my original broadband line. at the same time i want all pc's to access to the lan devices (ie. servers and printers) what the correct configuration would be for the two internet routers would be?

One moment the laptop was using the wireless connection from the router in our house and the next it lost internet access and then wasn't able to recognize the SSID or connection at all on the available wireless connections. We have reset the router and restarted the laptop countless times yet the only internet access we have is on the computer the router is hooked up to.The wireless connection works neither on the laptop nor the Wii, both previously works merely hours ago and with no problems until now.We assume there is an issue with the router itself, whether it be a loose ethernet cord (which only faintly can be moved in its place).It's almost as if the router is stopping them (Wii, and laptop) from having access. When we explore the wireless internet properties on the laptop, it shows the wireless connection, yet only there and doesn't give access to it. Could it be the router, or could the company have restricted WiFi only to the computer it is hooked up to?

with a networking issue that I'm having with the 2nd computer I have trying to connect to the interntet via my Westell 7500 DSL router. Some day, then my internet jut died. then I got the router restarted(unplugged the electricity and plugged it back in) and it worked for like a day and then it died again. I restarted the router again Internet worked and then some hours later it died again.This problem only happens to me and not anyone else in the house.I'm connected from my pc with and ethernet cable to a switch/HUB where it's then connected to the router.
