View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a home computer which part of the home's workgroup and I have a office laptop which is part of a domain. Both of these are connected to the home wireless router and I can ping from one to the other via IP only and not by hostname. I have to access DB which is on my home computer (workgroup) from office laptop(domain). How do I achieve this? I search the internet and found we can enable sharing by IP. But my usecase will require access to the workgroup computer using hostname from laptop.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a building with 30+ pc's, printers and cameras. I do not have a "server" setup, however I want them to be connected to the T1 line comming into the building for internet as well as file sharing, etc.Currently, I have the T1 line connecting to as Linksys E3000 wireless router. From there I have a cable connected to the wireless router (it has 4 ports also) and then going to a Netgear FS524 (24 Port 10/100 MBPS Fast Ethernet Switch) via port number 24. I then have another CAT5 cable connected to a port on this switch, extending to a D-Link DES-1024D (another 24 Port, 10/100 switch)I then have the 30+ CAT5 cable coming into all three of said devices... No then, I get Internet connection on all units, the problem is that I cannot see all of the devices.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI work in a school department and wanted to hardwire two computers in my class using a workgroup switch. I only had one data port in my class. The tech guy told me the switch could cause the entire network to crash. Is that true? I thought a switch was just a passthrough device.

After I boot up I cannot log in with that user, I log in with administrator and the user is dissappear in the "User Account", but the profile inside document and setting still left surprise. I don't know why Now I create one more user, it can map to share drive also share folder. also can see all other network computer. But only left one is I cannot join the domain. View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have a computer running Windows 2000 Pro that used to connect to a domain at work. Upon bootup, it asks for the user/password.Yesterday we tried to connect it to a little home network by changing the domain to a workgroup with a different name (network name that i used at home) as well. Now when it boots up, asks for a user/password, but now it does not recognize my user name and password.I can log in as an administrator to the Workgroup with the new name. but i cannot access the old Domain with its user and passwords. I tried to change back to the old name and to domain, but when doing that i get and error messsage which says: The following error occurred validating the name "xxxxxxx" (network name that I use at home) this condition may be caused by a DNS lookup problem. so I'm not sure if a should run the clear DNS cache. and if in doing that I'll be able to restored it back to the stage that i was before I made the changes.
View 1 Replies View RelatedTo start off, I work for a small business where we do not have an IT department
One of our users changed his domain to a workgroup (made us rethink who has admin access on all our PC's) thinking that it would somehow fix the problem he was having with not being able to print anything to a network printer. Well, this promptly called for a restart and upon restarting would not allow him to log back into the user account.
This all makes sense to me as to why it will not let him log-in using credentials that he is no longer a part of due to security restrictions. But my question is how do i recover the account? In other words, how do I go about rejoining that user account to the domain that everyone is located on.
If all new user accounts are defaulted to join the domain, how come its not just as easy to move a user from a workgroup back to that domain?
Also, the machine is running Windows XP. It's critical that I get the old user account set back up because it was used for Outlook e-mail as well as several important documents/spreadsheets. I know that none of these files are lost as I can still navigate to them through the Local Disk. But really I would like to get the old user account working instead of having to copy/paste all the old content to a new user account in order to hopefully retain all old settings and configurations. tl;dr A user on our domain moved his user account to a workgroup and now is unable to login or access his user account. How do I move the user account back to the domain?
I have a former corporate PC that logged into a domain server. Under <Control Panel><System> I changed from Domain to Workgroup. I now can't log on to any account including the administrator.I don't have the recovery disk. MS suggests a parallel installation of XP to provide access to the files on the disk. I can do that with any Linux CD. I don't have any data I want to recover. That was all stripped off before I got the PC. I do want to keep all the applications. If I reinstall XP, I will loose all the applications. I now know I can only logon to the administrator account if the PC is connected to the domain server. If I can restore the domain name, I can log on to the PC again.Where is the domain / group info kept and in what format? Is there a way of using a Linux CD to manually edit the XP files to restore / add a domain??

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am new to dealing with domain setups and Windows Server. Here is my setup:
Comcast business cable modem
Gigabit Switch
IBM x3100 M4 w/Xeon E3 1230, 16GB ECC DDR3 RAM Running SBS 2011 Standard
Custom PC with Win7 Pro, i7 3770, 12GB DDR3 RAM
What I would like to do is setup sbs 2011 as the domain controller and have the custom pc on that domain.Comcast business cable modem/router is set for defaults, handing out dhcp.
Both Server and custom pc are hooked into the switch which is hooked into the comcast router.SBS 2011 I believe I set it up with the default settings. Updated it so all the patches are on it. It sees the comcast router and connects to the internet no problem.
Custom PC is sees the comcast router no problem and gets its ip address from there like normal. When trying to join the domain on the sbs computer the custom computer cannot find it even though I can ping the server.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy workplace currently has one AD Forest. Slowly we have drifted in to two slightly separate businesses and my boss wants us to create a new AD Forest and segregate the users doing each business. Although we will all be in the same office, each side will authenticate to a different DC. The problem is, that we have some resources that still need to be shared and I would like to share them as eloquently as possible without converging the networks too much. The two networks will be in the same server rack but they will logically appear as this:Forest1.local (original)
-Cable Internet -- Router A (192.168.1.x) -- 48-port switch A -- PC/Phones/Domain Controller AForest2.local (new)
-Cable Internet -- Router B (10.1.1.x) -- 48-port switch B -- PC/Phones/Domain Controller B.
The problem I have is that the users in the "new" network need access to a shared folder, shared customer DB, and shared printers on the original Domain Controller, named "DC A" above. I have complete control over both networks but cant figure it out the best way.My main concern is physical access between the networks. How will a pc on the 10.1.1.x network know where printer 192.168.1.2 is? I thought about creating a forest trust in order to assign proper permission but how will they resolve the names on a different subnets? The two "routers" are just simple SOHO type routers so I cant do much there. I thought about connecting the two switches together but don't know if that would work. Wouldn't the data just get passed to the default gateway (router) anyway. The router would then just drop it. I also though about using the 2nd NIC in each DC and connecting them in each other's subnet. But again Im not sure if it matters if the DC's can reach each other or if the PC's would have to be able to reach the other subnet etc. I also thought about just creating some kind of VPN (hamagachi) or whatever to go out into the internet then back into the other router to the network. The problem is wouldnt every computer wanting to access the shared folder have to have this setup. I would like to limit setting things up on workstations and just limit config to the DC's if possible.I basically just want users in subnet two to be able to map a drive and access printers on DC in subnet one.
How can i implement networking in my THREE floor office by using routers and switches?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm going to move offices into a shared situation with 3 companies. Each company will want its own private network so there's no snooping between companies. I am planning on using VOIP for the phone system (Nextiva cloud based). Is it possible to set up the system so that each company has access to the VOIP system but yet remains sequestered in the their own network for everything else. I was hoping to do this with one data port at each workstation using Cisco SPA-303 phones. The way I understand this, is that the phone plugs in to the data port and you daisy chain the workstation off from each phone. Is this possible to do this while having the system I described? Another wrinkle is that I'd also like all the networks to be access shared printers.
View 7 Replies View RelatedInternet connectivity on my laptop is lost shortly after beginning to upload/download files over the internet to my cloud storage provider. I also lose connectivity when transferring files to or from the laptop within my LAN to a desktop computer connected via wireless router as part of a workgroup. Connectivity is only restored once I restart the laptop or uninstall, then reinstall drivers for my wireless network card. The issue then reoccurs once file transfers begin again. The laptop is running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1. The driver for my Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN internal network adapter are up to date. I have a Linksys WRT610N ver.2 router, and an HP Pavilion dv6500 laptop.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi'm trying to setup a local DNS server to manage small office local-only domain names for our servers. i have the DNS working properly (resolving local machines and using the ISP dns if it can't). so i put the DNS server ip into the "Static DNS 1" field of the router settings. the other 2 static dns fields are empty.the problem is that the router is still using the ISP dns server as the primary and my local dns server as the secondary. i verify this in two places. first, if i go to the "status" tab, DNS 1 shows the ISP server while DNS 2 shows my local DNS server. secondly, if i connect to the wireless device with a linux-based machine, the /etc/resolv.conf file shows the nameserver ips in the same incorrect order.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to connect my file server to my desktop and laptop through a workgroup, however while my Laptop and desktop recognize each other, they will not recognize the file server. I have tried what I can including setting firewall exceptions and even disabling it and nothing will change. Both the file server and desktop run Windows XP SP3 while the laptop runs Windows 7 Home Premium. the file server is connected to a 5-port router which is then connected to a 10-port hub that is connected to the gateway, while the laptop and desktop are connected to a different 5-port router which is connected to the same 10-port hub. I am saying thing also because I think it is a hardware problem since the laptop/desktop can connect perfectly as they are on the same router.
