Changed Domain For Workgroup / Can't Log Into User
Jan 29, 2012
We have a computer running Windows 2000 Pro that used to connect to a domain at work. Upon bootup, it asks for the user/password.Yesterday we tried to connect it to a little home network by changing the domain to a workgroup with a different name (network name that i used at home) as well. Now when it boots up, asks for a user/password, but now it does not recognize my user name and password.I can log in as an administrator to the Workgroup with the new name. but i cannot access the old Domain with its user and passwords. I tried to change back to the old name and to domain, but when doing that i get and error messsage which says: The following error occurred validating the name "xxxxxxx" (network name that I use at home) this condition may be caused by a DNS lookup problem. so I'm not sure if a should run the clear DNS cache. and if in doing that I'll be able to restored it back to the stage that i was before I made the changes.

I cannot join domain it saying that "Computer name changes", A domain controller for the domain MyDomain could not be contacted.”. We have domain and workgroup, Actually first its already joined the domain, but I want to map the sharedrive inside the workgroup but I cannot map. Then I change to join workgroup. After I boot up I cannot log in with that user, I log in with administrator and the user is dissappear in the "User Account", but the profile inside document and setting still left surprise. I don't know why Now I create one more user, it can map to share drive also share folder. also can see all other network computer. But only left one is I cannot join the domain. I need this one because of we don't let our user using as administrator account. Before I testing this one I should backup, but now the time

To start off, I work for a small business where we do not have an IT department
One of our users changed his domain to a workgroup (made us rethink who has admin access on all our PC's) thinking that it would somehow fix the problem he was having with not being able to print anything to a network printer. Well, this promptly called for a restart and upon restarting would not allow him to log back into the user account.
This all makes sense to me as to why it will not let him log-in using credentials that he is no longer a part of due to security restrictions. But my question is how do i recover the account? In other words, how do I go about rejoining that user account to the domain that everyone is located on.
If all new user accounts are defaulted to join the domain, how come its not just as easy to move a user from a workgroup back to that domain?
Also, the machine is running Windows XP. It's critical that I get the old user account set back up because it was used for Outlook e-mail as well as several important documents/spreadsheets. I know that none of these files are lost as I can still navigate to them through the Local Disk. But really I would like to get the old user account working instead of having to copy/paste all the old content to a new user account in order to hopefully retain all old settings and configurations. tl;dr A user on our domain moved his user account to a workgroup and now is unable to login or access his user account. How do I move the user account back to the domain?

I have a former corporate PC that logged into a domain server. Under <Control Panel><System> I changed from Domain to Workgroup. I now can't log on to any account including the administrator.I don't have the recovery disk. MS suggests a parallel installation of XP to provide access to the files on the disk. I can do that with any Linux CD. I don't have any data I want to recover. That was all stripped off before I got the PC. I do want to keep all the applications. If I reinstall XP, I will loose all the applications. I now know I can only logon to the administrator account if the PC is connected to the domain server. If I can restore the domain name, I can log on to the PC again.Where is the domain / group info kept and in what format? Is there a way of using a Linux CD to manually edit the XP files to restore / add a domain??

I have a home computer which part of the home's workgroup and I have a office laptop which is part of a domain. Both of these are connected to the home wireless router and I can ping from one to the other via IP only and not by hostname. I have to access DB which is on my home computer (workgroup) from office laptop(domain). How do I achieve this? I search the internet and found we can enable sharing by IP. But my usecase will require access to the workgroup computer using hostname from laptop.

I am new to dealing with domain setups and Windows Server. Here is my setup:
Comcast business cable modem
Gigabit Switch
IBM x3100 M4 w/Xeon E3 1230, 16GB ECC DDR3 RAM Running SBS 2011 Standard
Custom PC with Win7 Pro, i7 3770, 12GB DDR3 RAM
What I would like to do is setup sbs 2011 as the domain controller and have the custom pc on that domain.Comcast business cable modem/router is set for defaults, handing out dhcp.
Both Server and custom pc are hooked into the switch which is hooked into the comcast router.SBS 2011 I believe I set it up with the default settings. Updated it so all the patches are on it. It sees the comcast router and connects to the internet no problem.
Custom PC is sees the comcast router no problem and gets its ip address from there like normal. When trying to join the domain on the sbs computer the custom computer cannot find it even though I can ping the server.

I have manually configured the E2000 and set the admin password. When I was trying to log back in, I could not. I reset and reconfigured and set the password again. I still could not log in using "admin" and the password I set up. I thought I was losing my mind. Just on a hunch, I used the SSID name instead of "admin", then entered the password that worked. I am able to login, but I need the username to be admin, not the SSID. Has anyine else had this issue? Any way to change the administrator name back to admin??

We have shared network drives on my network whose folder structure must not change. We have users who must have full access to the contents of these folders and be able to read/modify/erase and create new files inside these folders. However, the structure of the folders must not change so that other users/programs can locate files within these folders.
Some users sometimes "aggressively click" and drag and drop folders into different locations and can't remember where they dropped them. This makes them inaccessible for other users. We have a lot of folders so I implemented FileWatcher Simple program to monitor these folders and if there is a change in folder structure I get an email with an attached log. The log tells me which folders got created/deleted/renamed and I am able to restore the folder structure if need; but I cannot see who caused these changes.
1. Is there a way for me to see which user in my domain modified the folders?
2. Is there a way to disable users from drag and dropping, deleting, renaming folders yet still maintain full access to the files within these folders?

We have cross domain trust relationship established and I have added the user group in our ACS 5.1. we are using Active directory as an external Identity store. Also I have created a rule in the 'Access polices' to allow the user group. From the cross domain, I use abc@xxx.xyz as a user id, but I get this error message 13036 Selected Shell Profile is DenyAccess.

We had a power outage that kicked off our server and our network switch (2008R2, Cisco2960), before we could get it back up, a user was able to log into his laptop.
The user used the domain login - not the local machine account - he obviously wasn't able to access any shared resources, but how did he log in with a domain account, when the server and switch were both off?

I started getting into IT (as a job) a little less than a year ago, though I've been working with computers for close to 20. So networking was never something I was into while working on computers at home. I've been handed a significant position at work and I am learning a lot as I go. I want to know how to grant permissions for a domain user to a directory without adding the user to all of the sub-directories and directories. The only way I've figure thus far is to grant permissions to said folder, then inside remove the "inherit permissions..." but then I have to manually remove the permissions to every other sub-folder.I want to add a single path to a folder by adding single permissions to each folder until the directory in question is reached.

I`ll get straight to the point. I have at work a domain of computers. on one of the computers (I have admin rights) I want to share a folder that can be accessed by other computers that are not in the domain. By default accessing that share requires a user/pass. My question is: can I configure something on the computer (running windows 2008 server) to the shared folder so that other computers that are not from the domain will gain access to without user/pass requirement (like a normal share)?

I have a remote access VPN profile configured on an ASA 5540. This profile is almost identical to the same profiles configured on other ASA 5540. The profile is linked to Active Directory for authentication. For some reason, users are not being prompted for the domain name field when connecting to the firewall, on the other firewalls they get prompted for all three (user/pass/domain).
All the firewalls are running 8.0(4) 32. And the following is the configuration of the firewall that I am experiencing issues with:
ip local pool TESTVPN 10.244.124.1-10.244.127.254 mask 255.255.252.0
group-policy TESTCERT internal
group-policy TESTCERT attributes

We are using an ASA 5510 and remote access (SSL VPN) using the AnyConnect client.
Is it possible to display a user message when a user connects using the AnyConnect client, matching a specific dynamic access policy? Can the message be displayed when the action is "Continue" rather than "Terminate"? I can't seem to get this to work and wondered if there was a LUA function to do this.
We have a DAP which gives a restricted ACL when the user's anti-virus is out of date, and I wanted to notify the user to update their anti-virus and reconnect.
