We have domain and workgroup, Actually first its already joined the domain, but I want to map the sharedrive inside the workgroup but I cannot map. Then I change to join workgroup. After I boot up I cannot log in with that user, I log in with administrator and the user is dissappear in the "User Account", but the profile inside document and setting still left surprise. I don't know why Now I create one more user, it can map to share drive also share folder. also can see all other network computer. But only left one is I cannot join the domain. View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have a computer running Windows 2000 Pro that used to connect to a domain at work. Upon bootup, it asks for the user/password.Yesterday we tried to connect it to a little home network by changing the domain to a workgroup with a different name (network name that i used at home) as well. Now when it boots up, asks for a user/password, but now it does not recognize my user name and password.I can log in as an administrator to the Workgroup with the new name. but i cannot access the old Domain with its user and passwords. I tried to change back to the old name and to domain, but when doing that i get and error messsage which says: The following error occurred validating the name "xxxxxxx" (network name that I use at home) this condition may be caused by a DNS lookup problem. so I'm not sure if a should run the clear DNS cache. and if in doing that I'll be able to restored it back to the stage that i was before I made the changes.

One of our users changed his domain to a workgroup (made us rethink who has admin access on all our PC's) thinking that it would somehow fix the problem he was having with not being able to print anything to a network printer. Well, this promptly called for a restart and upon restarting would not allow him to log back into the user account.
This all makes sense to me as to why it will not let him log-in using credentials that he is no longer a part of due to security restrictions. But my question is how do i recover the account? In other words, how do I go about rejoining that user account to the domain that everyone is located on.
If all new user accounts are defaulted to join the domain, how come its not just as easy to move a user from a workgroup back to that domain?
Also, the machine is running Windows XP. It's critical that I get the old user account set back up because it was used for Outlook e-mail as well as several important documents/spreadsheets. I know that none of these files are lost as I can still navigate to them through the Local Disk. But really I would like to get the old user account working instead of having to copy/paste all the old content to a new user account in order to hopefully retain all old settings and configurations. tl;dr A user on our domain moved his user account to a workgroup and now is unable to login or access his user account. How do I move the user account back to the domain?
I have a former corporate PC that logged into a domain server. Under <Control Panel><System> I changed from Domain to Workgroup. I now can't log on to any account including the administrator.I don't have the recovery disk. MS suggests a parallel installation of XP to provide access to the files on the disk. I can do that with any Linux CD. I don't have any data I want to recover. That was all stripped off before I got the PC. I do want to keep all the applications. If I reinstall XP, I will loose all the applications. I now know I can only logon to the administrator account if the PC is connected to the domain server. If I can restore the domain name, I can log on to the PC again.Where is the domain / group info kept and in what format?Is there a way of using a Linux CD to manually edit the XP files to restore / add a domain??

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a home computer which part of the home's workgroup and I have a office laptop which is part of a domain. Both of these are connected to the home wireless router and I can ping from one to the other via IP only and not by hostname. I have to access DB which is on my home computer (workgroup) from office laptop(domain). How do I achieve this? I search the internet and found we can enable sharing by IP. But my usecase will require access to the workgroup computer using hostname from laptop.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am new to dealing with domain setups and Windows Server. Here is my setup:
Comcast business cable modem
Gigabit Switch
IBM x3100 M4 w/Xeon E3 1230, 16GB ECC DDR3 RAM Running SBS 2011 Standard
Custom PC with Win7 Pro, i7 3770, 12GB DDR3 RAM
What I would like to do is setup sbs 2011 as the domain controller and have the custom pc on that domain.Comcast business cable modem/router is set for defaults, handing out dhcp.
Both Server and custom pc are hooked into the switch which is hooked into the comcast router.SBS 2011 I believe I set it up with the default settings. Updated it so all the patches are on it. It sees the comcast router and connects to the internet no problem.
Custom PC is sees the comcast router no problem and gets its ip address from there like normal.When trying to join the domain on the sbs computer the custom computer cannot find it even though I can ping the server.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a DSL line at work that we use to test external services provided to external users on our primary Internet circuit (Citrix, web applications, etc). Because this DSL line is for testing only, we want to lock it down so the only destinations allowed through the firewall are our own IP spaces.
I purchased a WRVS4400N for this purpose, thinking I could use the IP based ACL list to create these restrictions. However, every time I try to create an ACL, the internet slows to a crawl, and many sites don't come up at all. This occurs even if the ACL rule I add is a simple "allow any any" rule similar to the default rules.
Is this a known issue, or am I configuring something incorrectly? Here's an example of a rule I'm using (IP not real):
Action Service Source Interface Source Destination Time Day
Allow All Protocol LAN ANY 1.2.3.0/255.255.255.240* Any Time Every Day
I also get the problem with a simple allow from a single IP (mine) to any destination, without any other rules enabled.
implementation of the ACL ruleset on these routers?
I have two routers 1921 and 2901 and both of them are connecting to one Reliable Internet Line from one ISP. 1921 master router and 2901 as a Slave. this is my question, how i can make a Backup DHCP Sever in 2901 as a same IP address generation?
Example :
1921-------> Ip Generator 10.1.1.0 /24
2901-------> Ip Generate 10.1.1.0 /24
both generate same ip address, when the Master is lost, Slave could be Covered the LAN.
We have Cisco 3750G switches and have them setup to use Cisco ACS 5.2.0.26.5. Some switches after they are restarted and we know that the config is saved the server address for the AAA authentication is dropped. We are running IOS c3750-ipbasek9-mz.122-40.SE. I have started to upgrade switches to c3750-ipbasek9-mz.122-50.SE5 to fix an issue with reporting high drops in Solarwinds.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a few laptops at home and one desktop. I also have a work laptop which I carry to work every day. I have a lan at home. The computers are connected through a wireless router though my pc is connected through a lan cable. We are able to share files and content.
I sometimes connect my office laptop at home. Though the laptop connects to the network but I am unable to transfer or share files to other computers running Windows Vista/7. After a bit of research I figured this is because the workgroup name of my office laptop is different than the systems at home. I dont want to change the workgroup name of my office laptop as it will create problems at work.
How can I connected my office laptop to the network and transfer files if the workgroup name is different? It does show names of computers on network but when I try to connect a username & password box pops up.
When somebody opens my computer in workgroup it should ask user id and password.I mean if they type \mycomputer in run command, it should ask user id and password.
