My computer was connected to a workgroup, we shared the same internet wireless connection, my printer is shared, but my officemate can't find my computer in their network places... I try all the ways given from the internet but nothings change... I'm been working for this for 2 days already

But the XP computer does not show up on Windows7. File sharing was enabled in both. In another post TerryNet asked for the following info (nbtstat -n and IPCONFIG /ALL) from both machines. I thought I will post them assuming I have similar issue as in the previous post. here are the details of these two commands from the two machines.

I have to access DB which is on my home computer (workgroup) from office laptop(domain). How do I achieve this? I search the internet and found we can enable sharing by IP. But my usecase will require access to the workgroup computer using hostname from laptop.

I sometimes connect my office laptop at home. Though the laptop connects to the network but I am unable to transfer or share files to other computers running Windows Vista/7. After a bit of research I figured this is because the workgroup name of my office laptop is different than the systems at home. Upon bootup, it asks for the user/password.Yesterday we tried to connect it to a little home network by changing the domain to a workgroup with a different name (network name that i used at home) as well. Now when it boots up, asks for a user/password, but now it does not recognize my user name and password.I can log in as an administrator to the Workgroup with the new name. but i cannot access the old Domain with its user and passwords. I tried to change back to the old name and to domain, but when doing that i get and error messsage which says: The following error occurred validating the name "xxxxxxx" (network name that I use at home) this condition may be caused by a DNS lookup problem. so I'm not sure if a should run the clear DNS cache. and if in doing that I'll be able to restored it back to the stage that i was before I made the changes.

One of our users changed his domain to a workgroup (made us rethink who has admin access on all our PC's) thinking that it would somehow fix the problem he was having with not being able to print anything to a network printer. Well, this promptly called for a restart and upon restarting would not allow him to log back into the user account.
This all makes sense to me as to why it will not let him log-in using credentials that he is no longer a part of due to security restrictions. But my question is how do i recover the account? In other words, how do I go about rejoining that user account to the domain that everyone is located on.
If all new user accounts are defaulted to join the domain, how come its not just as easy to move a user from a workgroup back to that domain?
Also, the machine is running Windows XP. It's critical that I get the old user account set back up because it was used for Outlook e-mail as well as several important documents/spreadsheets. I know that none of these files are lost as I can still navigate to them through the Local Disk. But really I would like to get the old user account working instead of having to copy/paste all the old content to a new user account in order to hopefully retain all old settings and configurations. tl;dr A user on our domain moved his user account to a workgroup and now is unable to login or access his user account. How do I move the user account back to the domain?
i am unable to view all the computers in my work group by which sharing is also not working. whenever i tries to open shared folder in other computer this particular message appears ( no network provider accepted the given network path)

I now can't log on to any account including the administrator.I don't have the recovery disk. MS suggests a parallel installation of XP to provide access to the files on the disk. I can do that with any Linux CD. I don't have any data I want to recover. That was all stripped off before I got the PC. I do want to keep all the applications. If I reinstall XP, I will loose all the applications. I now know I can only logon to the administrator account if the PC is connected to the domain server. If I can restore the domain name, I can log on to the PC again.Where is the domain / group info kept and in what format?Is there a way of using a Linux CD to manually edit the XP files to restore / add a domain??

View 1 Replies View RelatedIve recently gotten four computers together on the same workgroup. They are all Windows 7 in some form or fashion, and I need them to be able to share the C:\Usersusername files so we can grab files from others desktops and work on data spread across multiple computers.
Ive tried using the homegroup function and Ive also tried just about everything and I cannot get them to access each others folders. No matter what I do it says I dont have the access privileges required to open folders on another computer. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would consider myself an 8 or 9 in being technologically savvy, and after an entire day working on it Im just unable to figure this out.
-All computers are on the same workgroup
-All computers can see each other on the network
-All computers have file sharing enabled
-Firewalls are completely off
-All computers run through the same router (though 2 go through a hub then the router, the other 2 go through another hub then router)
When I go to "advanced sharing settings" and try to give permission to a user on another computer the work group doesn't even appear. I can only give access to local users on each individual computer.

I do not have a "server" setup, however I want them to be connected to the T1 line comming into the building for internet as well as file sharing, etc.Currently, I have the T1 line connecting to as Linksys E3000 wireless router. From there I have a cable connected to the wireless router (it has 4 ports also) and then going to a Netgear FS524 (24 Port 10/100 MBPS Fast Ethernet Switch) via port number 24. I then have another CAT5 cable connected to a port on this switch, extending to a D-Link DES-1024D (another 24 Port, 10/100 switch)I then have the 30+ CAT5 cable coming into all three of said devices... No then, I get Internet connection on all units, the problem is that I cannot see all of the devices.
