View 1 RepliesI am using a (Windows 7 OS) machine from work (that has a domain name set) at home and want to connect it to my home's workgroup so that I can access files on two other computers currently in the workgroup: one running windows 7 the other xp.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to protect the computing assets on a perimeter firewalled / protected LAN from visiting laptops while still permitting the laptops wifi internet access and printing priviledges on the LAN's networked HP printer To do that I was thinking of setting up a computer as a dedicated firewall with 3 NICs (external internet, internal LAN and a DMZ for a Guest wifi router for use by the visiting laptops). (Will probably use free Untangle Firewall software software or such on the dedicated firewall computer). What I can't figure out is the firewall's topology, IP ranges and rules / forwarding that would permit such laptop operation.I would think it would be a common need for small offices but can't find much material on the subject.I do understand that such would slightly weaken the firewall but feel that I would gain more security overall.

While hardwired, I added the printer to my laptop. When I am at the office, either wired or wirelessly, I can print to the printer. When I try to print from home, the printer never opens, it is unable to connect. Is there a way to access a network printer when logging in remotely through VPN?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a cabled network printer, Xerox Phaser 6125n, that have always worked properly from my 3 desktop computers and my laptop.A few days ago, my old dlink router went dead, and I replaced it with the TP-Link WDR4300 router. Everything worked as usual afterwards, until I found out I could no longer print on my printer. I can access the printers web interface through the ip adress, change settings and such through the browser, but the printer has offline status in windows and print jobs never leaves the print queue in windows. I tried deleting the printer in windows (tried both windows 7 and 8) to reinstall it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy father works at a mall in a shop and had bought a Brother 2270DW printer (wireless and wired networking) to find that it was a bit bigger than he had anticipated it to be and does not fit on his kiosk desk, and so gave the printer to me yesterday. He was wondering if it is possible to setup the printer so that it could be printed to from over the internet. After I reserved a DHCP IP address for the printer, changed 'admin' and 'user' passwords, and disabled some protocols, I made sure IPP was enabled and that port 631 (TCP) was forwarded on my DD-WRT router.
I added the printer as my external IP address [URL] in Windows, selected the correct driver as provided by Windows Updates, and attempted to send a test page without success. This would be my first time trying to setup a printer for over-the-Internet printing (aka IPP).what I could do to try get this to work?
I am on workgroup with my printer connected directly to my XP pc. I have no problem printing from the XP pc but can't print from my laptop and another pc that runs windows 7. All the computers on the network can see each other and have no problems with file and data sharing.

View 1 Replies View Relatedmy home network is of 2 wired computers and one wireless computer (this one) whats strange is that even though i have internet access, I am unable to see any of the shared folders on the wired computers even though the wired computers can see each others shared folders and the shared folders on the wireless one.what im trying to do is connect to a printer, the wireless one preferably, but i can settle for the one thats directly connected to one of the wired computers if i could. i think this strange network blindness on my side might be part of the problem. this wireless one is a xp, the one with the direct printer is a vista, not sure on the last one, im thinking xp, but if xp doesnt have a 64 bit version, then i would guess 7.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSmall office setup with a wireless modem/router. We have two computers that are identical HP Pavilion a6807c PCs running Vista Home Premium. Other computers in the office are a bit older and run either XP or Vista.Just purchased a new HP Officejet 7000 printer and connected it via a USB to one of the HP Pavilion Vista computers (which I will refer to as HP1). The printer works fine on HP1 using the direct USB connection.Set printer sharing, file sharing, and even public sharing on both HP computers (HP1 and the other one I will refer to as HP2). Workgroup name is the same. Can access HP1 and see the HP printer on HP1 from other computers in the office. However, when I try to connect to the printer from HP2 to HP1, it locks up HP1 and HP1 requires a hard reset. I tried installing the software/drivers on HP2, but HP2 still tries to install the drivers from HP1.I am not sure its a problem with HP1 as much as it is a Vista issue. The reason I say this is because I have been able to successfully use an XP computer (XP3) to connect and print to the Officejet on HP1.

Both of these are connected to the home wireless router and I can ping from one to the other via IP only and not by hostname. But my usecase will require access to the workgroup computer using hostname from laptop.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a few laptops at home and one desktop. I also have a work laptop which I carry to work every day. I have a lan at home. The computers are connected through a wireless router though my pc is connected through a lan cable. We are able to share files and content.
I sometimes connect my office laptop at home. Though the laptop connects to the network but I am unable to transfer or share files to other computers running Windows Vista/7. After a bit of research I figured this is because the workgroup name of my office laptop is different than the systems at home. I dont want to change the workgroup name of my office laptop as it will create problems at work.
How can I connected my office laptop to the network and transfer files if the workgroup name is different? It does show names of computers on network but when I try to connect a username & password box pops up.
I am trying to connect my HP LaserJet 4050 to my BEFSR81 router (via ethernet), but my PC's are not printing to it? When I click on Devices&Printers on my Win7 PC, I see it and it has a green check mark, but I am not sure if the pc actually sees this printer or if it is showing this because I installed the driver.
Other option would be buy a print server (EFSP42), but I would rather just connect it to the BEFSR81.
First , I have installed the router and modem correctly , and i connected it to the switch , So the other devices connected to the internet but not connected to the workgroup so i can't share the files between the PC's ? Modem >>> Router >>> Switch >>> PC's
