Tp-Link Router - Printing With Network Printer Through Device

Mar 7, 2013

I have a cabled network printer, Xerox Phaser 6125n, that have always worked properly from my 3 desktop computers and my laptop.A few days ago, my old dlink router went dead, and I replaced it with the TP-Link WDR4300 router. Everything worked as usual afterwards, until I found out I could no longer print on my printer. I can access the printers web interface through the ip adress, change settings and such through the browser, but the printer has offline status in windows and print jobs never leaves the print queue in windows. I tried deleting the printer in windows (tried both windows 7 and 8) to reinstall it.

Printing To Network Printer While Connected Via VPN?

Oct 27, 2011

I am using Open-VPN to connect directly to our server at our office. We have a main network printer at the office that everyone uses. While hardwired, I added the printer to my laptop. When I am at the office, either wired or wirelessly, I can print to the printer. When I try to print from home, the printer never opens, it is unable to connect. Is there a way to access a network printer when logging in remotely through VPN?

Printing From Firewall DMZ To Internal LAN IP Printer?

Jun 29, 2012

I am trying to protect the computing assets on a perimeter firewalled / protected LAN from visiting laptops while still permitting the laptops wifi internet access and printing priviledges on the LAN's networked HP printer To do that I was thinking of setting up a computer as a dedicated firewall with 3 NICs (external internet, internal LAN and a DMZ for a Guest wifi router for use by the visiting laptops). (Will probably use free Untangle Firewall software software or such on the dedicated firewall computer). What I can't figure out is the firewall's topology, IP ranges and rules / forwarding that would permit such laptop operation.I would think it would be a common need for small offices but can't find much material on the subject.I do understand that such would slightly weaken the firewall but feel that I would gain more security overall.

Brother 2270DW Printer - How To Setup IPP / HTTP Printing

Mar 12, 2013

My father works at a mall in a shop and had bought a Brother 2270DW printer (wireless and wired networking) to find that it was a bit bigger than he had anticipated it to be and does not fit on his kiosk desk, and so gave the printer to me yesterday. He was wondering if it is possible to setup the printer so that it could be printed to from over the internet. After I reserved a DHCP IP address for the printer, changed 'admin' and 'user' passwords, and disabled some protocols, I made sure IPP was enabled and that port 631 (TCP) was forwarded on my DD-WRT router.

I added the printer as my external IP address [URL] in Windows, selected the correct driver as provided by Windows Updates, and attempted to send a test page without success. This would be my first time trying to setup a printer for over-the-Internet printing (aka IPP).what I could do to try get this to work?

D-Link DIR-655 :: Shareport Printing Does Not Work Correctly

I have hardware version B1, firmware version 2.00NA and several computers (wired & wireless) with Vista & Win 7 x64 and a Brother HL1440 printer. When I print something it comes out scrambled, images missing or cut off, empty pages, etc. This same setup worked fine when it was directly into one computer, then shared on the network though windows sharing. The problem was that computer had to be running to print off the network. I got the dir655 since it had printer sharing but so far its not been of any luck.

D-Link DIR-825 :: What Device To Be Used To Extend Wireless Network

Aug 10, 2010

set up the wireless network at a friend's house, which is a large solid-brick house that winds from one end to the other.  The current location of where the cable comes into the house is unfortunately on the far-left end of the house, which means that the right end of the house receives no signal from their DIR-825 wireless N router.

What I've been looking into is the best way to wirelessly extend the wireless signal to the other end of the house.  It seems straightforward enough to use an ethernet cable and access point to extend a wireless network, but that is not really a good option for this house.  After reading many forum posts (and not being an expert myself) it seems like it may be possible to wirelessly extend the wireless network with another router, although it appeared that this is much less common (if at all possible) with wireless N routers.

what device I need to accomplish what I've described above?  Another router, or some kind of access point/bridge?  I saw at least one rather expensive wireless N repeater online (a Hawking brand, I believe) but was hoping to avoid that option initially, but if that is the only way to go then so be it :-)

D-Link DIR-655 :: Controlling Device Access On Network

Feb 6, 2012

I have a new audio/video receiver that has Apple Airplay functionality built in.  Now the Airplay allows any Iphone/pod/pad/tunes device/computer on the same network to route music to the receiver without plugging in the device directly.  Great concept but the execution allows any computer or iphone in my house on the network to take over my receiver with no questions asked and start playing.

So far I have failed to find a way to restrict or shut off Airplay on the device itself (other than disabling it's network).  If there is anyway through networking or my DIR-655 router to control/restrict this access?  What I would like in a perfect world is to keep all computers and wireless Apple I devices from connecting to the unit unless I allow it for that particular device/computer.  In an imperfect world I would accept just blocking wireless devices from it but still allowing them full network connectivity otherwise. Some things I have thought of - Can I use static addressing for the A/V receiver but put it on a different subnet then what my router is set to?  Is there some network control in the firewall that may limit access to the A/V receiver?

Network Printing Issue Via IP:

Aug 1, 2012

A weird issue that came up a couple weeks ago, about 15 users that print to network printer via IP. The printer is attached to a print controller with all print jobs are spooled to.
So when a user prints, lets say three pages, it spools to the windows queue and each page takes about 1.5min to get to the print controller queue, when it would only take a few seconds to spool.
Different switches, print drivers..etc have been tried and narrow it down to one thing. When working with the NAS server plugged into the switch, that's when it takes long but when unplug from the NAS, prints come out fast like normal.
how to find out if the NAS is broadcasting some crazy traffic? but it seems that it's only affecting this printer, other printers that don't have a controller print out fine and fast.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Can't See Hard-Wired Printer On Local Network

Dec 18, 2010

I recently purchased a DIR-655 and everything's working fine -- Internet access, visibility of local shares, etc. -- with the one except accessing to my printer (Brother MFC-7440N) that's hard-wired to a port on the router. After installing the latest PC SharePort Utility on my two Windows 7 desktops, they're both able to connect and use all of the features of the printer (print, scan, etc.). However, I can't say the same for my two Macbook Pro's connected via WiFi (802.11N).  I installed the latest Mac SharePort Utility on both, but neither can "see" the printer.  Caveat:  If I connect the laptops via a LAN cable (ie. hard-wired directly into the router), they're able to see the printer.  how to configure the router (or Mac) to allow them to see the printer?

TP-Link 150Mbps Wireless :: WR702N - How To Create Access Point For Printing

Mar 5, 2013

Region : United Kingdom
Model : TL-WR702N
Hardware Version : V4.20.0
Firmware Version :
ISP :

Using a TL-WR702N router as a wireless access point on a narrow-boat. How to print from my i Pad and iPhone to a printer on my narrow-boat, on the UK inland waterways. The Apple store geniuses seem to contradict each other on how it can be done, if at all. I have an i Pad and iPhone and would like to print photos, documents and the occasional web page to my Canon MG4250 printer, which has Air print capability, while I am cruising. I don't have a PC on the boat and of course there is no telephone or broadband connection (other than via 3G on my iPhone). In other words, I want to link my printer to a router, then when required, wireless connect to the router to print from my Apple devices.

Will the TP Link TL-WR702N 150Mbps Wireless N Nano Router allow me to do this? Reading the product information, this nano router looks very flexible, but all five modes mentioned seem to utilize an internet connection. I only have an internet connection via 3G on my iPhone, and can also tether the i Pad to the iPhone's WiFi hotspot to give internet connection on the i Pad. Would I have to use this internet connection somehow, or can I just connect the Apple devices to the printer via the WiFi on the nano router?

In effect I want to create a wireless access point for printing, without any, or at least a regular, internet connection.

TP-Link Dual-Band Wireless :: TL-WDR4300 - QoS Priority To Network Device

Jan 23, 2013

Region : Canada
Model : TL-WDR4300
Hardware Version : V1
Firmware Version : 3.13.17 Build 120426 Rel.29216n
ISP :

In the absence of true QoS capability on the 4300, what is the best way to give bandwidth priority to one of my network devices?

I have an Apple Airport Extreme connected to my network. It is used to stream music from my Ipod to my sound system. I do this through my network (rather then connecting the IPod directly to the AE) so that I can connect to radio stations over the internet. The problem is that I'm getting random dropouts (pauses in streaming). I've shut down everything on the IPod to make sure that there are no Apps competing for WIFI resources. The dropouts happen even if there is little activity on the network (e.g., file downloads, youtube, etc.)

What I want to do is to get the 4300 to give top priority to the AE. How can I do this without QoS capability? Can I allocate more bandwidth to the AE when it is receiving streaming data?

Note: The AE is always connected to the network. It uses DHCP to get it's IP address. It is connected to the 5G band. Signal strength is typically 1 to 2 of 3 bars (average is 1.5 bars). The 2.4G band has a slightly higher signal strength but the same dropouts occur so the problem does not appear to be signal strength.

Konica Minolta Bizhub C253 - Network Printing Very Slow?

Jul 26, 2012

I have an office with only 5 workstations running XP Pro and Win7.. Connected to a domain server running SBS2003. We have a network printer (Konica Minolta Bizhub C253) that everyone prints to. The problem is that it takes nearly 2 minutes just to print even a Windows test page.. All of our workstations use Terminal Services to log into the server. If we print from the local side- it goes right through with no issues. Printing through terminal services takes too long. Is there a simple way to fix this? We have just a basic 12 port switch connecting everyone, I've tried replacing that and I still have the same issue. I've made absolutely sure that its nothing simple, like a driver or connectivity issue.

Canon MF8300 Printer - Unable To Locate Printer On Network

Mar 21, 2011

I have 2 desktops (running windows 7), a Canon MF8300 printer, and an outgoing ethernet line, all on a Netgear Advanced Cable Modem Gateway CGD24-CPR. I'm only concerned with having the 2 desktops set up with the Canon printer. Both computers have been connected to the printer before and I have the startup disk. But once the new offices were set up and both of the desktops were moved, I can no longer access or find the printer.

I can IPconfig the Desktops for their IPV4 addresses and both desktops recognize eachother on a Homegroup, but I can't find the printer. I printed off the print configuration page from the printer which gave me an IP address (printer is set for auto-obtain), but using an IP search won't bring up the printer. All of the devices are plugged into ethernet ports set up for the three different office they are in and the actual location of the Netgear cable modem/router is over 100 feet away. My primary concern is getting the printer for the desktops, but I also need to add a wireless router into one of those office in the future.
