D-Link DIR-655 :: Cannot Connect XBox 360 To Network PC's And Storage Device
Jan 29, 2011
I just upgraded my wireless router to a D-Link DIR-655. I have 2 PCs and a network storage device (D-Link DNS 321) connected via ethernet to the router. I also have an xBox 360 connected wirelessly to the router. The xBox is able to connect to the internet via the router, but it cannot connect to (see) the PC's or the network storage device. It was able to do so with my old wireless router (a Belkin), but it stopped with the DIR-655.

After using my 2 TB WD network storage device on other systems both wirelessly and via an ethernet connection, I decided to install the device on a new system via a wired connection. Unfortunately, my computer (WIN XP) won't recognise the device when using a direct connection though my talk talk supplied D-LINK wireless router. I have contacted WD and talktalk and gone through all the diagnostic processes but it still won't recognise the device. I have been able to connect this device through an older D-LINK router (still wireless) on the same talk talk ISP with no problems so I can't understand why it won't connect here. The WD device reports no problems but I can't access it, even when all firewall and AV programs are disabled.

Hardware Version : V1
Firmware Version : 3.13.12 Build 120405 Rel.33996n
I've plugged in a USB flash drive and enabled shared storage on my TL-WR1043ND router. With "Access shared storage with password" unticked, I can access the share using both my Windows 7 Laptop and Motorola Defy+ (with ES File explorer) and successfully play any Music off of the network share using the Android App, ES File explorer.
If I enable "Access shared storage with password" and attempt to log in using any of the user accounts I've set up on the device, I will be able to access the shares using the credentials on my Windows 7 Machine, but not with my Motorola Defy+, instead I will simply receive "Login failure". I'm Picking it has something to do with the network share type?

recently I've connected to my OpenVPN and everything works fine on my PC I'm getting okay speeds and the VPN IP appears on [URL]The problem is I wanna use internet connection sharing to play Xbox Live while connected through my VPN and I'm having issues. My Xbox isn't even recognizing my wired connection. This is the setup:Wireless Connection > Desktop > OpenVPN > Wired connection from desktop to XboxWhat I think I'm doing wrong is not specifying the correct home networking connection for my LAN 3 (Tap-Win32 Adapter OAS)I tried sharing the LAN 3 connection and set the home networking connection to my Wireless and it disconnects me from my wireless network.

I would like to connect a device (dataloger that sends data to a remote server via internet) which only has LAN port to a wireless network on the location. I managed to do this once with WA901ND configured in Client mode (WA901ND acts like a wireless card for this data loger).Does WR941ND support this feature (which feature should I use?) or should I buy WA901ND again?

Anyone using it to save videos from their cams? Are you using Synology NAS? Am interested and want to hear from people qualified to discuss NAS. Qualified means you are currently using NAS or have thoroughly researched it to the point you have made your purchase decision for the most part.

i set-up the D-LINK DNS 323 NAS unit with RAID 1 (dual 2-terabyte 5400 rpm drives) it works, but it is slow in copying files between my computer and it (8 minutes to copy 4.5 gig file between NAS and my PC). i am using Cisco WRT160N router. replaced the network wires to the latest spec, and my computer has realtek PCIe GBE network adapter.

I recently purchased a NAS enclosure to use my WD IDE hard drive as a networked drive. I configured the hard drive's jumper setting as single (no jumper). I installed the hard drive in the enclosure and connected the Cat 5e cable to the back of the DIR-655 router. When I tried mapping to the drive, I receive the error:
\STORAGE-3B25 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Network error (1208).
I suspect perhaps that I might need to change a setting on my router to allow me to access the NAS. The NAS ip address is visible on the router's admin page and I am able to see it when searching for network drives in my laptop. But I just somehow can't connect to it. I am running Windows 7 Professional 32-bit.

I would like to turn on continuous video recording and have it sent to a drive on the same network as the camera without going through a computer. Is there a way to setup the "storage folder" as a network drive? For example my network drive is accessed at \192.168.0.1volume1 through a web browser.

Wasted several hours after changing to a D-link DIR 825 router attempting to connect to my XBOX 360 (S) without success.Tried to use the 5 GHz broadcasting with following settings (the 5 GHz SSID didn't show up in the XBOX wireless list but I'm one of those ignorant trial & error:
- locked on 802.11n and WPA2,
- disabled Multicast Streams in "Advanced/Advanced Network",
- disabled WI-FI protected setup in "Advanced/WI-FI Protected Setup" (maybe unnecessary)
- disabled SPI and TCP & UDP Endpoint Independent i "Advanced/Firewall Settings/Firewall Settings"
In the end it was resolved by the info in solution 5 on the xbox page: The XBOX:es with built in wireless can only use the 2.4 GHz connection, and to be able using 5 GHz broadcast I apparently have to get the "black adapter".

I installed my DIR 655 today and had no problems accessing the network with any of my computers, however, I am completely unable to connect my xbox to the network. The issue isn't with connecting the xbox to xbox live, its with even getting it to connect to the wan.
[code]...
No matter what I do the xbox says it can't connect to the router, and in the router's wireless connections it shows my xbox's MAC address with an IP of 0.0.0.0.I installed my DIR 655 today and had no problems accessing the network with any of my computers, however, I am completely unable to connect my xbox to the network.

Xbox is connected via ethernet to DLink. Router does not assign IP address to Xbox but does to all other wireless devices and wired computer. Xbox can connect to xbox live via direct connection to modem so cables and adapter are all good. Can't assign either static or dynamic IP address to Xbox. Have reset router to original config. Am at a loss of what else I can do?Have 2.01 firmware and have reset modem as well.PS....It has occasionally been connected in the past but currently no connection possible through router.

How does the storage work with a WAG320N device via USB if I am using a Ubuntu 10.04/10.10 et al?
Does it look like an FTP site or can I just use it as a shared folder accessible though the normal folder directory structure from any machine on the network.

Ive been trying to work this out on XBL forum for a while. all my settings seem to be correct ( UPnP, NAT type: open, no port forwarding or triggering, IP settings on Xbox's are auto).
The two Xbox can play online separately, when either one of them attempts to join the others party it disconnects from Xbox live.
According to the microsoft website, Xbox live only supports the Hardware version 1A and Firmware: 1.00NA.
My router has B1 and 2.00NA. is there a way to downgrade?

I'm attempting to connect an Xbox 360 console to a Linksys WRT54GL router (wirelessly), using a TP-Link TL-WA500G wireless access point. I've had this working in the past, but I didn't make a note of the configuration unfortunately. The Internet connection is connected to the router. The device hasn't been used for several months. During this time, I installed Tomato firmware onto the WRT54GL router, however I have since completely restored the router to factory defaults, by reinstalling the default firmware and performing a hard reset. Having reset the device, I was surprised to see that the Tomato favicon is still displayed when accessing the router's admin webapp.

I updated to Firmware Version: 1.0.04. And now I can't logon to the router when my storage device is turned on. However, I can logon to the router when the device is off. If I turn the power on the storage device and try to navigate the router it says ".....Can't establish a connection to the server at 192.168.1.1." Then I have to reboot the router to be able to log back on.

So our last router (Linksys) quit on us the other day so we got this one. We plug it in and it works most of the time, but the connection drops out periodically. Also, for some reason, I am now unable to connect to Xbox Live using my laptop as a router (plugging the ethernet cable from my xbox to my laptop). Also, when I plag it in, the internet stops working on my laptop and I have to restart it to get it to work again.

I'm having trouble connecting my 360 to the wireless router to gain Internet access.I use my phone's Wi-Fi to gain internet access with NO issues. My current setup: NetGear Wireless router is connected to my D-Link wired router, and I can access the internet no problem. (10 MBPS down, 5MBPS up)When I try to connect the 360 to the Netgear Wireless router, it connects to the Network, but Internet test it reads "DNS error - The router or modem may mot be automatically providing DNS settings. Try a manual DNS setting instead."(Next suggestion) "DNS Error - If you have a PC that can successfully browse the web, check it's network properties to find the DNS address it uses..."Now, I have XBMC running on my computer, and the 360 can access the network so it shows up under Video Apps so I can see a file list to stream movies. When I try to run a movie, it says I must download an update - so I can't watch the movies at all.I juso set it up so I can access the Network AND Internet.Again, Netgear wireless router (which 360 connects to) connected to D-Link wired router.

I'm sure it's on here but because I dont understand the name of what I'm looking for, I'm having trouble searching. My main network is setup for wireless via a netgear wndr3700. I'd like to use my old linksys wrt54g v5 to connect to that network wirelessly and allow me to connect my xbox via wired ethernet. Basically instead of buying a wireless adapter for the xbox, i'd like to know if/ how i can use my linksys router instead.

Yesterday i was playing online on my Xbox 360, and was disconnected from the internet. I came downstairs to reset router/modem, once doing so i went into the router settings for my Linksys WRT54G. My modem by default uses the 192.168.1.1, so my router was 192.168.2.1... So i powercycle, log into router settings through 192.168.2.1 and start setting up my port forwarding for the xbox ports. Saved Settings, and the page would not load to say "Settings Saved". Closed the window and now my pc says no internet connection. I had to create a VPN broadband connection to even use the internet on my pc. I can no longer log into 192.168.2.1 for my router, nor can i access 192.168.1.1 to even get into my modem settings.. I'm using windows 7, and the automatic troubleshooting guide tells me to powercycle my modem. My xbox can still see my wireless network "linksys" but will not connect to it, even with the VPN connection i am still hooked though my router and modem.. Im afraid that my router just out of nowhere "died"..

I have a xbox 360 that I want to connect to xbox live with, using my home network. Every time I try to connect to xbox live the only part that fails is the connecting to xbox live part. This is how my network is set up. I have Cox Cable as my ISP, a Linksys WCG200 gateway(v2), and WRT54GS(v7). The cable wire is connected to the WCG200 gateway, then an Ethernet cable connects the gateway to the WRT54GS router, and finally an Ethernet cable connects the router to my xbox 360. I have contacted Cox, Linksys, and Microsoft about the situation and they all say the problem is the version of the router. Someone told me that I may just need to change the firmware, but I don't know how to do that.

set up the wireless network at a friend's house, which is a large solid-brick house that winds from one end to the other. The current location of where the cable comes into the house is unfortunately on the far-left end of the house, which means that the right end of the house receives no signal from their DIR-825 wireless N router.
What I've been looking into is the best way to wirelessly extend the wireless signal to the other end of the house. It seems straightforward enough to use an ethernet cable and access point to extend a wireless network, but that is not really a good option for this house. After reading many forum posts (and not being an expert myself) it seems like it may be possible to wirelessly extend the wireless network with another router, although it appeared that this is much less common (if at all possible) with wireless N routers.
what device I need to accomplish what I've described above? Another router, or some kind of access point/bridge? I saw at least one rather expensive wireless N repeater online (a Hawking brand, I believe) but was hoping to avoid that option initially, but if that is the only way to go then so be it :-)

I have a new audio/video receiver that has Apple Airplay functionality built in. Now the Airplay allows any Iphone/pod/pad/tunes device/computer on the same network to route music to the receiver without plugging in the device directly. Great concept but the execution allows any computer or iphone in my house on the network to take over my receiver with no questions asked and start playing.
So far I have failed to find a way to restrict or shut off Airplay on the device itself (other than disabling it's network). If there is anyway through networking or my DIR-655 router to control/restrict this access? What I would like in a perfect world is to keep all computers and wireless Apple I devices from connecting to the unit unless I allow it for that particular device/computer. In an imperfect world I would accept just blocking wireless devices from it but still allowing them full network connectivity otherwise. Some things I have thought of - Can I use static addressing for the A/V receiver but put it on a different subnet then what my router is set to? Is there some network control in the firewall that may limit access to the A/V receiver?
