View 1 RepliesWe're just bought a Netgear WNR2000V3 router and everything is working great, except for our XBox Slim......We can't connect very often and the only way I can get a connection is by disabling all other wireless connections. (Wii, IPod Touch, IMac and Acer Aspire Laptop) My main computer is the IMac.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAs a temp work around I have two SSID now, one for everything else running WPA2 and one for xbox running WPA. The xbox seems to not like the router on WPA2 and though this would make one think, oh its your xbox, thats not always the case with devices. Some just may happen to want to use a feature the device doesn't support correctly and other devices are able to work around it while ones not so I cant for sure blame on xbox.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been using the Dir-655 for 2 or 3 years with my old Xbox 360 and an external G wireless adapter. Everything was working perfectly until I got the dreaded Red Rings Of Death the other day. I replaced the Xbox with a new Slim version with built in N capable network adapter.
After more than 10 hours of trying a variety of "fixes" I found from MS and in this forum, I am still at square 1.
Hardware Version : A3
Firmware Version : 1.32NA (this is listed as Live compatible by Microsoft)
802.11 Mode : Tried N only, G only and mixed 802.11n and 802.11g
Enable Auto Channel Scan : Checked
Transmission Rate : Best (automatic)
Channel Width : Auto 20/40
Visibility Status : Visible
Security Mode : WPA-Personal Also tried WEP
WPA Mode : Auto (WPA or WPA2) Also tried WEP
Cipher Type : TKOP and AES
I tried assigning an IP manually from the Xbox. But, no matter what I do, the router will not accept it. It is especially frustrating that the Xbox is visible to the unit. It simply will not assign an IP to it under any circumstance.
If you read the sales hype promoting the Dir-655, you will see a lot of nonsense about it being great for gaming. Given that, you'd think a simple solution would have been found and posted for this issue by now. Surely, end users shouldn't be trying 100 different possible "fixes", none of which work, at this late stage of the firmware upgrades. If I sound a tad fed up, it's because I am. After the expense of the new Xbox, it appears I now have to junk my router too.
Here is the status screen taken when it was in mixed mode. Changing it to 'G Only' didn't make any difference:
My friend has had constant issues with his wireless network using his dated Linksys router. So he finally decided to upgrade to the Netgear N750. It's a dual band router that simultaneously broadcasts 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. He setup the 2.4 band for the laptops and mobile devices to access, and the 5 band just for gaming on his xbox 360 Slim. He immediately ran into a problem. The 360 slim's built-in wireless card only picks up 2.4 GHz frequencies. To remedy this, he purchased Microsoft's xbox 360 wireless-N adapter as it can pick up 5 GHz frequencies. However, there was no change after plugging the adapter into the 360 slim. His HP laptop can see the 5 GHz network just fine, so we know it's being broadcast. Could it be the xbox is out of range of the 5 GHz band? Is the adapter not functioning properly with the 360 slim?

The problem is I am part of a bigger scientists network where all ports are closed so it wont work. I even tried installing a OpenVPN server on the NAS and then connect though that but with no luck.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded my wireless router to a D-Link DIR-655. I have 2 PCs and a network storage device (D-Link DNS 321) connected via ethernet to the router. I also have an xBox 360 connected wirelessly to the router. The xBox is able to connect to the internet via the router, but it cannot connect to (see) the PC's or the network storage device. It was able to do so with my old wireless router (a Belkin), but it stopped with the DIR-655.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble connecting my 360 to the wireless router to gain Internet access.I use my phone's Wi-Fi to gain internet access with NO issues. My current setup: NetGear Wireless router is connected to my D-Link wired router, and I can access the internet no problem. (10 MBPS down, 5MBPS up)When I try to connect the 360 to the Netgear Wireless router, it connects to the Network, but Internet test it reads "DNS error - The router or modem may mot be automatically providing DNS settings. Try a manual DNS setting instead."(Next suggestion) "DNS Error - If you have a PC that can successfully browse the web, check it's network properties to find the DNS address it uses..."Now, I have XBMC running on my computer, and the 360 can access the network so it shows up under Video Apps so I can see a file list to stream movies. When I try to run a movie, it says I must download an update - so I can't watch the movies at all.I juso set it up so I can access the Network AND Internet.Again, Netgear wireless router (which 360 connects to) connected to D-Link wired router.

My main network is setup for wireless via a netgear wndr3700. I'd like to use my old linksys wrt54g v5 to connect to that network wirelessly and allow me to connect my xbox via wired ethernet. Basically instead of buying a wireless adapter for the xbox, i'd like to know if/ how i can use my linksys router instead.
View 13 Replies View RelatedYesterday i was playing online on my Xbox 360, and was disconnected from the internet. I came downstairs to reset router/modem, once doing so i went into the router settings for my Linksys WRT54G. My modem by default uses the 192.168.1.1, so my router was 192.168.2.1... So i powercycle, log into router settings through 192.168.2.1 and start setting up my port forwarding for the xbox ports. Saved Settings, and the page would not load to say "Settings Saved". Closed the window and now my pc says no internet connection. I had to create a VPN broadband connection to even use the internet on my pc. I can no longer log into 192.168.2.1 for my router, nor can i access 192.168.1.1 to even get into my modem settings.. I'm using windows 7, and the automatic troubleshooting guide tells me to powercycle my modem. My xbox can still see my wireless network "linksys" but will not connect to it, even with the VPN connection i am still hooked though my router and modem.. Im afraid that my router just out of nowhere "died"..

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a xbox 360 that I want to connect to xbox live with, using my home network. Every time I try to connect to xbox live the only part that fails is the connecting to xbox live part. This is how my network is set up. I have Cox Cable as my ISP, a Linksys WCG200 gateway(v2), and WRT54GS(v7). The cable wire is connected to the WCG200 gateway, then an Ethernet cable connects the gateway to the WRT54GS router, and finally an Ethernet cable connects the router to my xbox 360. I have contacted Cox, Linksys, and Microsoft about the situation and they all say the problem is the version of the router. Someone told me that I may just need to change the firmware, but I don't know how to do that.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIve been trying to work this out on XBL forum for a while. all my settings seem to be correct ( UPnP, NAT type: open, no port forwarding or triggering, IP settings on Xbox's are auto).
The two Xbox can play online separately, when either one of them attempts to join the others party it disconnects from Xbox live.
According to the microsoft website, Xbox live only supports the Hardware version 1A and Firmware: 1.00NA.
My router has B1 and 2.00NA. is there a way to downgrade?
I just bought a new television so thought I would finally be able to get to play xbox live in a television away from the router! But of course like always there is is problems....
I'll start off by saying I understand about bridging your pc's wireless connection to the router and the wired connection from the xbox to the pc. I did the same thing last year with my old laptop and it worked fine.
However the problem lies in that my computer isn't recognising the xbox as a network device atal! They are connected using an ethernet cable (and the orange light comes on at port when xbox is turned on) but the only thing showing up in networked connections folder on the pc is the actual internet!
I had read that sometimes an ordinary ethernet cable isn't enough and it must be a cross over cable used to connect the pc and the xbox, so went into the shop today and purchased an adaptor that changes the cable to a cross over... but still nothing is showing up.
My computer is fairly top of the range, windows 7 and uses a netgear usb network card.
My xbox cannot connect to the internet. I'm hardwiring it. It can achieve an IP Adress and a Subnet Mask but... it's Gateway, Primary DNS, and Secondary DNS remains at 0.0.0.0
How can I fix this so that I can connect to Xbox Live?
What should I do cause my xbox360 the black one will Nt connect to the internet

View 3 Replies View RelatedIn our country we only used broadbands to connect to the internet, for short we don't have any wireless networking here. I just bought a new Xbox360 and I tried to connect the broadband on it. After connecting I tried to join Xbox Live and it said error. The console redirected me to a part which says test your connection, so I selected it. After selecting it I noticed that there are 4 parts. First the Xbox, second network, third internet, and lastly Xbox Live. I selected Test Connection and after doing so, it started to load. The first thing the console did is to test if the network is connected and after a few seconds the loading is done and it transfers to the other part which is the console will try to connect to the internet, in this part a huge x symbol appeared on the internet sign and it says that it is unable to connect to the internet and so I tried it again and same thing happened.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWasted several hours after changing to a D-link DIR 825 router attempting to connect to my XBOX 360 (S) without success.Tried to use the 5 GHz broadcasting with following settings (the 5 GHz SSID didn't show up in the XBOX wireless list but I'm one of those ignorant trial & error:
- locked on 802.11n and WPA2,
- disabled Multicast Streams in "Advanced/Advanced Network",
- disabled WI-FI protected setup in "Advanced/WI-FI Protected Setup" (maybe unnecessary)
- disabled SPI and TCP & UDP Endpoint Independent i "Advanced/Firewall Settings/Firewall Settings"
In the end it was resolved by the info in solution 5 on the xbox page: The XBOX:es with built in wireless can only use the 2.4 GHz connection, and to be able using 5 GHz broadcast I apparently have to get the "black adapter".
