So i got the Asus RT-AC66U router and ive setup everything as far as the 2.4 and 5ghz wireless goes. However, for some reason i cannot get my xbox 360 to connect to the wireless network. I tried both the 2.4 and 5ghz network. It sees the network just wont connect. also ive tried to manually add the ip and dns settings to no avail either
View 11 RepliesSome background: We live in a 3-story 3,700 sq. foot home. Office is in bottom front corner of the 1st floor. We have a Linksys WRT54GS router (I know!) paired with a cable modem. We have a desktop wired to the router, a plasma TV across the room connected to the cable and a PS3. We also have an iPad, two iPhones, and a MacBook Air (2012), plus whatever devices guests bring into the house.
We have trouble streaming on devices on 2nd and 3rd floors on the opposite side of house from the office. Plan on adding a NAS in near future, primarily as a local backup and to share pictures, music, movies, etc.Not sure if one of the routers above is the way to go for whole house coverage? Seems like the AC version is probably way beyond our needs, but not sure. Is there a cheaper way to go than either that will still provide the coverage we need for a large house?
I just got a new Asus AC66U. When I play games I have severe stuttering now using the 5Ghz band. I ran a ping to the router and every 20-30 seconds it jumps up from 1ms to 100-900 for 2-4 pings then backs down. I tried running ping test on two computers with the same result.I tried fixing the 5Ghz to a specific channel. I've tried upper channels, lower channels, I've adjusted the channel width from 20-80Mhz. I've changed the preamble from long to short, I've upped the transmit power, I've turned off PnP. I haven't been able to change a setting that made a difference.
I did notice that the lag spikes were much less frequent in the morning when I tested, before everyone was using the internet, although I saw an occasional ping spike. They must be related to router load.i don't want to change the firmware on the router in case I have to return it. I spoke with Newegg and they're going to send me a replacement router. I doubt that it's the hardware, but this will be a good way to know for certain that it's not the hardware. Once I get the new router I'll test everything again including trying the ping with a LAN cable.

View 4 Replies View RelatedSo my setup has been built around playing nice with my Uverse Gateway. Basically the Router is hooked into a Lan port to the gateway and I have enabled DMZ-Plus to disable the firewall on the gateway's end. Wireless on the gateway has been turned off.
My issue is if I try and plus my Thecus N4100 pro into the router, it doesn't see it at all. The only way I can get my N4100 pro to work is to plug it directly into the gateway with my desktop pc and in that case the gateway wireless has been turned off only my desktop pc see's the nas...
It's definitely not ideal, and I am not sure what to do. I wanted to be able to use this router to do the bulk of the pc related things and only have the gateway handle uverse tv (WAP)...

When I'm gaming no other traffic is on the network, meaning my laptop is turned off. The only time I use my laptop wireless is for browsing when I'm not close enough to the router and modem to go wired.
I was thinking of getting the ASUS RT-N66U. I'm fine with the price if I can't find a quality, reliable router that would meet my needs for less.
I'm having trouble connecting my 360 to the wireless router to gain Internet access.I use my phone's Wi-Fi to gain internet access with NO issues. My current setup: NetGear Wireless router is connected to my D-Link wired router, and I can access the internet no problem. (10 MBPS down, 5MBPS up)When I try to connect the 360 to the Netgear Wireless router, it connects to the Network, but Internet test it reads "DNS error - The router or modem may mot be automatically providing DNS settings. Try a manual DNS setting instead."(Next suggestion) "DNS Error - If you have a PC that can successfully browse the web, check it's network properties to find the DNS address it uses..."Now, I have XBMC running on my computer, and the 360 can access the network so it shows up under Video Apps so I can see a file list to stream movies. When I try to run a movie, it says I must download an update - so I can't watch the movies at all.I juso set it up so I can access the Network AND Internet.Again, Netgear wireless router (which 360 connects to) connected to D-Link wired router.

I came downstairs to reset router/modem, once doing so i went into the router settings for my Linksys WRT54G. My modem by default uses the 192.168.1.1, so my router was 192.168.2.1... So i powercycle, log into router settings through 192.168.2.1 and start setting up my port forwarding for the xbox ports. Saved Settings, and the page would not load to say "Settings Saved". Closed the window and now my pc says no internet connection. I had to create a VPN broadband connection to even use the internet on my pc. I can no longer log into 192.168.2.1 for my router, nor can i access 192.168.1.1 to even get into my modem settings.. I'm using windows 7, and the automatic troubleshooting guide tells me to powercycle my modem. My xbox can still see my wireless network "linksys" but will not connect to it, even with the VPN connection i am still hooked though my router and modem.. Im afraid that my router just out of nowhere "died"..

The adapter does not see the N network on the LinkSys but there are other N networks in the list. I have updated the latest drivers. My PC Laptop, Macbook Pro, and Xbox 360 connects to the N network.

Every time I try to connect to xbox live the only part that fails is the connecting to xbox live part. This is how my network is set up. I have Cox Cable as my ISP, a Linksys WCG200 gateway(v2), and WRT54GS(v7). The cable wire is connected to the WCG200 gateway, then an Ethernet cable connects the gateway to the WRT54GS router, and finally an Ethernet cable connects the router to my xbox 360. I have contacted Cox, Linksys, and Microsoft about the situation and they all say the problem is the version of the router. Someone told me that I may just need to change the firmware, but I don't know how to do that.

I can connect to it secure and wired as well as unsecured and wireless, but not secured and wireless. I have done malware scans and checked for driver updates for both my netowrking card and the Linksys WRT54G router firmware...both are good. All of the other systems in the house can wirelessly connect to it while secured, so I've narrowed it down to clearly being a problem with my computer. I am using Vista Home Premium 64 bit on an ASUS G50VT.

It's the same story with my xbox and ps3 (also wired directly to the router via straight-throughs).

They all connect to the internet fine. My Xbox 360 never connected. the xbox can connect to the router. Then the router cannot connect to the internet.
I just need a a way to connect my xbox 360 to the internet. I considered buying a WET610N and was wondering if it will connect to my E2000? I can't use one of microsoft adaptors because something is wrong with my usb ports. Or if it is possible am I able to connect a WET54G? I'm not looking to play online just get connected wirelessly. View 1 Replies View RelatedIt worked fine for my PC's and Xbox, but I had disconnected my router for a while, plugged it back in and my xbox simply cannot receive any connection. I should also note that I use an ethernet cord (I don't use it wirelessly) and it has nothing to do with the ethernet cord (I've tried several). Using network magic, it does confirm that a connection to the game console and the router.I've looked through the forums and all of what I found, are NAT problems/issues or fixing a wireless issue, but not an issue when using an ehternet cord.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAs a temp work around I have two SSID now, one for everything else running WPA2 and one for xbox running WPA. The xbox seems to not like the router on WPA2 and though this would make one think, oh its your xbox, thats not always the case with devices. Some just may happen to want to use a feature the device doesn't support correctly and other devices are able to work around it while ones not so I cant for sure blame on xbox.

1. Other machines can connect to the Airport Express network, including a Toshiba Satellite PC, iPhone, and MacBook.
2. The Passkey is valid and works for the devices identified in (2)
3. When entering the valid passkey, the network rejects it and says the passkey is invalid
4. I have opened the Airport Express utility and changed the passkey to a new one, and all of the devices identified in (2) were able to connect -- but the ASUS laptop still cannot connect, the system still rejects it from the ASUS laptop and says "passkey invalid"
My laptop is unable to connect to my home wifi network after it had ip conflict last night. I tried network troubleshooting it and it always ask me to investigate the router. I tried to reset the modem a few times but my laptop still could not connect to it while my roommates and my phone could. Then I remove my wifi profile and attempt to connect back to the network. However, the same problem persist.My laptop model is Asus A43S and having Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1.

I also have an xBox 360 connected wirelessly to the router. The xBox is able to connect to the internet via the router, but it cannot connect to (see) the PC's or the network storage device. It was able to do so with my old wireless router (a Belkin), but it stopped with the DIR-655.

xbox 360 sees both the 2.4 network (ssid = network1) and the 5.0 network (ssid network2) when it does its scan.
Initially, xbox showed network strength for 2.4 network at 3 out of 4 bars and 5.0 network at 1 out of 4 bars. Connects to 2.4 network just fine, Won't pull an ip address and reports "Not connected" when I select the 5.0 network.
I tweaked the wireless settings per some suggestions I found in this forum and now it shows the 5.0 network at 4 out of 4 bars signal strength. Also turned security on and off and xbox 360 reported the changes in security on the 5.0 network. So the xbox 360 is definitely seening the 5.0 network. and can tell if it is running WPA2 or not. If it can see the 5.0 network and recognizes what security and network type (infrastructure) is set, would would stop it from connecting to the WRT610n router and getting an IP address? No mac filters or firewalls are set and, again, connects just fine and gets an ip address if I select the 2.4 (network1 ssid) instead.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI built a desktop to replace my laptop and set it aside for two weeks. So I go back to the laptop and it says the networks available but I can't connect to the router. It reminds of the first time I wired a network at work. All the wireless info seems to be right I went to my RT-nu Asus router and reset that. That seems to be OK. DCHP is OK password for the WPA seems OK. I did upgrade the firmware to the router but that worked ok. That won't have affected the laptop in anyway would it? I do have a preprogram of WIN 8 but its not telling I have to buy it yet. Whoa, how could it if I can't get on the net. Do you think that might be it? Everything on the laptop works well otherwise and it's not informing to but Win 8.
